My wife and myself went yesterday for Sunday lunch. Good variety of dishes on the menu. My wife had brie for starter, she said it was perfectly cooked and delicious. For main course my wife opted for pasta and I ordered the roast beef dinner. The roast beef was lovely and tender, three big slices, with mash, roast potatoes, carrot and parsnips and then a bowl of roasted vegetables arrived. The staff were really helpful and attentive. Will definitely call again.

My husband and i had an overnight - dinner, B&B at the weekend. It was all great, really liked the rooms, shower, bed was comfy and shoutout to Gerry, chef Gerry!! Friendly staff, good service, really enjoyed the food we had at dinner and breakfast. Lost a star due to the temperature being too cold in the restaurant and bar. I wasn't able to take my coat off all night. Sitting with my coat on all evening wasn't great, no heat and no fire. Also the pub atmosphere was a little lacking. That was disappointing as it wasn't what i had expected. I was expecting cozy.

I am currently lying in a heavenly bed at the Cuan after a night stay, about to have that marvellous morning snooze you have after a hearty hotel breakfast and before check-out. What a wonderful, wonderful place. From the first cheery welcome yesterday to the fabulous service at breakfast this morning, we have loved every minute. The amazing food, the beautiful decor, the top-end toiletries, the fluffy towels, the spotlessly clean rooms and most of the all, the friendly and warm staff. We will definitely be back.

Great food, but lost a star because the apple crumble was like a jar of really, really sweet apple sauce covered with crumble. The crumble itself was excellent though!

Stayed for 3 nights for a friends wedding (actually we pretty much took over the hotel for 4 days). Gorgeous hotel. Staff could not do enough for you and were so welcoming. Food was amazing, and Gerry the breakfast chef was charming. Would definitely go again. Thanking all the staff for making my friends wedding just the best and for putting up with us!

My husband and I ate in the Cuan around 18:00 on 25 Sept 24. And the service we received from Sam was truly exceptional. We had our wee Shih Tzu with us and had left her in the car. Sam served us and noticed that my husband had moved the car so we could keep an eye on our wee dog. Sam then asked was that our dog in the car, to which we replied ‘Yes’ and she said ‘We have 2 dog friendly tables in the bar area where you can et something to eat, if you want to bring her in’. That was music to my ears and swiftly we brought our wee Shih Tzu into the bar and to a discreet table. We ordered our drinks and food and when the food came, there was a slight issue with our burgers. They were a little undercooked. But the service we received from Sam was next to none. She took the burgers away, apologised profusely and had the full meals completely recooked from scratch. There was no issue, no hassle, no qualms. We even got fresh chips (which my husband said were better than his home made chips, they were to die for; the burgers were very fresh and also tasted lovely) but because we had eaten the previous chips, we were full. So we ended up with a carry out burger and 2 free carry out deserts to rectify the original issue. I used to work as an undercover restaurant reviewer so I know what to look out for. And I’ve never come across a server who was so professional, so competent and passionate about her job. She completely diffused the situation. Her attention to detail, her warmth and friendliness mean that we will definitely be back. Well done Sam. You’re worth your weight in gold and the Cuan are so very lucky to have you. A pay rise is definitely in order!!!!!!!!!

I just stayed for two nights with my husband, If you are looking for a peaceful break then this is were to come, it was so quiet. The bus stop was just outside so if you are looking for a base this is great. The rooms were so clean, all of the staff members were so friendly and warm right down to the chief who came out to speak to us after out breakfast which was first class as was the same for our two evening meals. I can't find anything negative to say about the Cuan at all. Nothing was too much trouble, I would go as far to say probably the best place I have ever stayed in and I look forward to returning.

Nice pub in Strangford with good menu & lovely Guinness on tap. We enjoyed the burger, chicken Caesar salad, followed by apple crumble & chocolate mousse. Food was nice, only criticism was there was not much chicken on the Caesar salad. Dog friendly in the bar area too - plenty of seats in this area if you are visiting with your dog. Our pooch was very happy sitting with us in there The staff were all very polite & prompt too, although think they were a bit busy as there were some tables that were left uncleared for a while

Yes it was a Bank holiday Sunday and the strangford festival was on and they were busy. But, hugely disappointing. General cleanliness was poor. ' grubby'. Toilets smelly and dirty. Food was more fuel than enjoyment. Really just poor pub grub at fine dinning prices. Had driven from Bangor with American guest to give her a pleasant experience. Had to apologise as our previous experience had been much better. Can't risk going back again,

Fantastic place with a lovely restaurant. We booked for a special family reunion and were looked after so well by the incredibly friendly staff both behind the bar and waiting on. The food was fresh and delicious with a really good choice on the menu. A particular mention to Alison who worked hard to make sure that our evening was such a success particularly as it was festival weekend in Strangford so everywhere was very busy. We were not rushed and loved our evening so much we booked back in for breakfast the next morning! Thank you to everyone at The Cuan for your incredible Irish hospitality, we would highly recommend!

Very poor service and waited over an hour for meal. We are a couple with a baby of 6 months. We had just spent a nice day around the village and Castle Ward and wanted something to eat. We had to ask to order our drinks and food and then 45 min later found out the food order hadn't been placed. Annoying but no problem...we were promised food would be prioritised... 20 minutes later our starters arrived. So... Waiting an hour. I would have thought prioritised starters would take 5-10 min... Meanwhile... Little baby is getting tired... Food arrives and we have to go as baby starts crying. I rushed meal and left my drink and my wife had to ask to have hers taken away. In fairness the staff apologised and gave us a free drink but I wouldn't put people through it.

Customer service lets the Cuan down time and time again. I am a frequent visitor to Strangford and have gone to the Cuan twice in last month alone and both times servic has been poor but after my most recent visit I won’t be back. On arrival, waitress pointed to table and said you’re sitting over there under that picture - she didn’t have courtesy to walk us over to show us to table. Then the wait began to be given menus and take drink order…this took 10 minutes. Then another wait of 10 minutes until food order taken. When food arrived I ordered glass of wine - waitress obviously forgot to order it as I had to ask for it again from another waitress. On the positive side, food was fantastic. I had beautiful roast beef Sunday dinner and my partner had steak - which he said was best he had in long time. We asked for dessert menus but surprise surprise they didn’t come so we just left. Customer service and waiting staff really let this place down. They don’t appear to know what they are doing. We weren’t only table kept waiting - others around us also complained of wait time. Real pity as food is good, but with the local competition of such a high standard you will be treated better in other establishments.

My husband and I had dinner on Saturday night with our wee Yorkie, Trixie. The sea bass consisted of one fillet, the burger had hardly any porterhouse cheese or onion relish as described. The pil pil prawns were tasty but seemed to have been cooked in chiili oil with no fresh chillis or garlic. Although the staff were friendly, there were plenty of them on duty and neither the bar nor restaurant were busy, the service was extremely slow. Our starter had gone lukewarm before we received the cutlery we’d had to ask for and we had to leave the table any time we needed to get someone’s attention. It was our first visit and we’d very much been looking forward. We’ll probably try it again in case they were having an ‘off’ night, but wouldn’t be in a rush back.

Went for lunch. The sour waitress did make us laugh. Especially the eye rolls when she was asked to leave the wine bottle as it wasn’t empty. The scampi and chips were terrible. All eight pieces of it. The triple cooked chips were still frozen in the middle. Our waitress mumbled she’d tell the chef, never heard any feedback so I doubt she bothered as everything was a trial for her. Heavy sighs and eye rolls. Waited 35 minutes for coffee. The Cuan is very well located in Strangford. The staff were super helpful, especially Allison. Unfortunately, the room was a let down. It was extremely dusty and I had to wipe it down. There were cobwebs at the top of the ceiling and the television and pictures were caked in dust. They had not been dusted for a significant length of time. I only notice as I had to stand in the bed to get rid of a spider. The bathroom amenities were excellent as was the shower but it was also dusty. The room had clearly not been checked thoroughly as there was a coat in one of the drawers which must have been left behind by a previous guest. I spoke with Allison the next morning and she assured me that it had been cleaner. I think a check will be a good idea after the cleaners have been in. The next morning’s breakfast was a delight. It was all cooked to order and was excellent quality as well as delicious. I am not sure I would stay at The Cuan again but will definitely be in for breakfast if ever in the area again.

We were highly disappointed in our visit here this evening. We have been fans of The Cuan for years, we have eaten here on multiple occasions, and have recommended it to people. However, after our meal tonight, I can say we won’t be back. We fully understand the cost of food is high and we are more than happy to pay our share but the seafood sharing platter that we were served this evening was absolute joke. On the menu it is listed as having langoustines (plural), we received one. There was one piece of Guinness bread. Two bites of pickled herring and a few prawns. When we flagged down the waitress, she gave us two more pieces of Guinness bread after saying we were shocked at the size of this supposed sharing platter. To charge £30 for this small amount of food is shocking and to list it as a sharing platter is ridiculous. The fish that we got from the fish and chips was incredibly greasy and the batter was very thick. The vegetable curry was very oily and all in all we were just not impressed with the food that was served tonight especially given our previous visits that we have raved about time and time again. Despite this disappointment, the breads that we started with were good which is where the second star came from

Superb hotel with cosy restaurant and bar (both open to casual visitors). Staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. Food is superb quality and good value considering you're getting quality food - not pub grub. We go regularly (we only live a mile away) but it's always very popular with visitors, tourists etc. Avoid on days when a cruise liner is in Belfast: we find there's usually a coachload of cruise tourists and there is no availability unless you've booked. (This, in itself, shows that this is a quality establishment if they're bringing coachloads of tourists 30 miles to have lunch here!)

The interiors are beautiful with a relaxing bar and dining area that looks like something from a classic NYC Hotel. The menu is varied from standard pub favourites to bistro style food to choose from. When I arrived I advised I had a gluten allergy and was talked through the menu (there was very little I couldn't eat) and asked to fill out an allergy card which ensures all staff knew I required a gluten free meal. For starter I had smoked salmon and fresh fennel with a delicious piece of gluten free wheaten bread and I had chicken for main. My partner had squid for starter and a burger for main. The food was delicious and the staff were friendly and attentive throughout our meal. Will definitely be back when next in Strangford

It has been a while since we last were here. Really liked the layout changes. The food was fantastic, the crispy prawns were as good a starter as I have ever had. The lamb main was perfect. As for the staff, service was faultless, very friendly, attentive and really made us feel welcome. Will definitely be back.

Had a superb overnight stay at The Cuan. Hotel has been transformed inside and they have done a really great job. Lovely welcome when we arrived and shown to our room. Room was lovely and felt like we were the first guests. Breakfast was outstanding and once again served by extremely pleasant and friendly staff. Couldn’t find fault and will be back.

The refurbishment is great, place looks amazing. Have to say a bit disappointed with the front of house staff. We had booked at the start of May for Saturday night dinner. On arrival we had a drink outside and requested to see a menu, went and asked again for a menu and got one but it was time to go inside then anyway. Walked through the front door and stood with staff looking at us as if we were lost, said we had a booking and the member of staff looked around the room as if looking for a free table. Once she seen one I was asked if this will do? Being treated like a walk-in is not good. I asked if we could sit in the actual restaurant section, in the other room as there are two seats free, I was told they are booked? As I could see these seats when I went to the bathroom, they were never filled all night. Drinks had to be chased, food orders wrong, no recompense, there are actually so many things to write about here that I can't be bothered. Disappointed.

We stayed overnight and had dinner. Our room was excellent. A comfortable large 6ft double bed, and bathroom with very modern walk in shower - everything spotless. Bathrobes and slippers were provided, as were nice toiletries.Dinner in the restaurant with drinks before in the bar was a friendly and enjoyable experience. The dinner menu offered good choices which included fish, meat and a suitable choice for vegetarians/vegans.As fish depends on the catch of the day - we chose for our main course the hake, crusted with a tasty melange, and there was also "brandade" with it, which was excellent. Prior to the main course we had some super smoked salmon, prawns and a salad with apple and fennel which was very fresh. The chef in the kitchen is obviously very competent!!Breakfast - again in the restaurant with it's central high domed glass ceiling offered an irresistible menu. Full Irish for sure - but Eggs Benedict, kippers, smoked salmon etc. Nice touches were fresh fruit, granola with a fruit compote and some viennoisserie.Throughout we were made very welcome by all staff in all parts of The Cuan. It's a great place!

First time in the renovated Cuan. The bar restaurant is both highly designed and inviting. The meal was 5 star: prawns, ribeye and creme brûlée all excellent. Big Thanks to Bernie, Cathy, Ryan and Callum for their professional, friendly and attentive service. A visit is to the Cuan is highly recommended

A busy day for the Cuan, but staff were delightful and helpful. We arrived just after two off the ferry on a family day out. Looking for food, we approached the Cuan and unfortunately they were at capacity for food given the wonderful day. The girl was polite and professional and told us that if we got a table we would be ok for drinks via the table service. With two hungry kids in tow I enquired (cheekily) that since they were at capacity for gods could I order chips and eat them at my table so long as I had some drinks. The girl agreed that it was ok given the circumstances. In the course of our stay we sat in the sun and had two rounds of drinks. With a happy wife and two lads we departed for home, but we will be back with the hope we can sample the menu (which looks fab) next time. See you in a few weeks.

The new look Cuan is gorgeous down to every last detail, I loved the colours, the space, everything! The food was fab too, the chowder is a knockout as was the panacotta. My husband had the steak which is said was great. We had the house Italian red which was beautiful. The staff were working so hard and were very attentive, however it was the great welcome we got from the fabulous Michael that made us feel special, he really is a treasure. Can’t wait to go back and take all the family, brilliant addition to the great eateries we have in the Strangford area.

The place is stunning . The decor was on a par with any 5 star hotels in the greater Belfast area. We had a few starters The food is very affordable. I felt the Squid was a little salty but I cleared the plate. Staff:- Deloras Kerr could run any restaurant single handed. The woman is doing 2 jobs and so friendly. Lovely young lad introduced himself to my wif and I. Very sociable. they shone for us!

We've just come back from having a delicious lunch at the Cuan. Great starters - the scallops were beautiful in taste and presentation, and the butterflied chicken was lush. Ribeye steak, chips and pepper sauce were superb, as was the crab linguine. All served on hot plates, al fresco. Service was great. Certainly a very welcome treat out of lockdown!

Had a lovely meal with very good staff serving who made us feel welcome. Heaters take the edge off the cold but it is a good idea to bring a blanket. Food served piping hot and very tasty.

Today was our first return to ‘restaurant dining’ after 8 months, and what an amazing lunch it was! I won’t lie that we were outdoors under the canopy and it was cold, and we even had hailstones at one point; but the overhead heaters on the outdoor terrace, and the warm friendly welcome from all the staff soon had us forgetting how cold it was.I had the chowder to start, followed by the best crab linguini I have ever eaten.. then Raspberry creme Brûlée for dessert. All three courses were delicious. All washed down with a very nice bottle of French Sauvignon Blanc. The refurbishment of the Cuan is fantastic - so we can’t wait to return and dine indoors… and likewise, the food was just fabulous. Thank you to the chef and all the staff for a very memorable and wonderful lunch… we will be back… and DON’T ever take that crab linguini off the menu!!

We came for lunch on Saturday 1st. Cannot fault anything. Literally. The service as welcoming and friendly, nothing too much trouble. We had a few of the snacks before lunch and they were all lovely, the crispy olives in particular. Our lunch was superb. Rick and Michael are great hosts, mind you the rest of the staff are also great! 10 or if 10 for us! Booked to go back already.

Beside the main restaurant, they have a takeaway. The board outside had a sign saying delicious bacon butty. So was tempted. HAve to say was not disappointed. BAcon well cooked and presented. The cup of tea with it was warm and as requested. When I took the lid off the cup was not full. All that let them down.

Saw the menus on their website & saw the pictures that they had posted & thought that this restaurant looked like the kind of place we would enjoy. What a disappointment! The menu was not what they advertised on their website, when we questioned the waiter about the menu he said that they hadn’t used that one for about 2 months. The presentation of our meals was most definitely not similar to the pictures on the website, the leeks must’ve flown over the leek & potato soup, would not recommend & we were very sorry we had taken our friends there & would most definitely not be back!!

Excellent chips to take out! Possibly the best takeout chips we have ever had accompanied with excellent customer service. The lady was very generous in her portion size and welcoming to us as first time visitors to Northern Ireland. We were very impressed with the opportunity to gift a meal which we did! A must chip shop to sample.

The Savoy Cafe is a great place for good food and a bit of banter with staff who are friendly and helpful. We travel from Lisburn to Newcastle on a regular basis as we enjoy the Savoy and after breakfast or lunch, a good long walk along the coastal path towards the Mournes which is spectacular in any weather.....

Lovely spot to play golf and have a great bit of food afterwards. Checkout Thursdays when there is likely to be an open on.
