Brothers Fish Bar in Waltham Forest

I'd passed this place on numerous occasions, as it's not that far from where I live and I sometimes have reason to visit Wood Street, so I thought I'd give it a try one time when I fancied a bag of chips. Let's just say that the chips were of fairly average quality, and the portion was pretty stingy for the price! I had a quick look at the pre-cooked fish, and they also looked to be on the small side. I knew there was a good reason that we get our fish and chips delivered from Highland Fish Bar instead...

Nice hot food for a good price and always so fresh and tasty! My fave chippy in Walthamstow it is unbeatable

Best chippie in Walthamstow! Chips are nice and crispy and curry sauce is always so tasty. Well worth the money

GREAT fish & chips is a dying art and this place does it to perfection. Crisp, fresh batter and chips (CHIPS - not rehashed "french fries" - because it's important!!) , with delicious tender cuts of fish. Even the OIL they use is clearly quality and not reused to death. Great service, great food, but be warned there is (understandably) a queue at peak times - and the delivery bikes line up outside this place! Always a good sign!

Having tried and tested many Fish and Chips places in East London, this by far is one of the best. Fresh fish and great service.

Very fortunate to have such a good fish bar in the area. Great batter, short waiting time if you want a particular fish that is not already prepared. Great and generous portions of chips and very pleasant staff.

Stopped on way home, on a cold and wet evening. Ordered cod and chips, portion size generous, fish tasted nice, service was good, did not have to wait long despite queue. I would use Brothers fish bar again

So I went into brothers last night for two medium cod and chips and savaloy with a butter roll , first of all as I came in there was already someone complaining about the wrapping of his chips because they fell through the bag and the fish was all soggy. Never have I known to wait 20 minutes in a chip shop for re heated chips which were filth, and a medium cod? Medium cod? It looked extra small to me with batter that just fell off when you opened it ... not that I could open it because it fell through the bag , meanwhile while this was ongoing there was 4 clueless people standing behind the counter with nothing in the heaters, the guy who served me got the meal deals wrong and when I told him he forgot the saveloy and butter roll he just literally chucked it in the bag no wrapping or nothing ... not even to mention he tried overcharging us...no word of a lie. Michaels in E11 is the best option by far this was only a passing by stop .... avoid at all costs can see why we were confused there wasn't a queue on a Friday night ... makes a lot of sense now. We even refused to eat it .. left hungry so we went to Michaels Fish shop in e11. Waste of money.

One of the best fish and chips shops in the area. Highly recommend the Haddock and chips. Be prepared to queue its a very popular fish shop but well worth it

Of course people have their tastes but i can't understand the 4.5/5 for this place. Anonymous service of dull, small portioned fish and chips makes it a last resort for us. Michael's in E11 offers much better food, and cheaper, if with irritatingly slow service for no apparent reason. You will not get parking, you might think you have but that will cost £60

This is my local chippie. It's average, no more no less. If you visit when the oil needs a change it's not so good, when it's fresh all is good with the world. Nothing here will surprise you.

What's not to like; Proper Fish, Proper Chips and everything else you should get in a proper chippy. You know its proper when your open chips collect the vinegar (that you can only get in chip shops) at the bottom. This is a naughty little treat, do you think you can handle it as you will want more...

Perfect made chips and done well done for me! Cod was yummy and curry sauce was also nice. Service was great very polite and talkative

Popular chippy with locals, often "plaice" an order pop in Flowerpot for beer and collect wrapped, salted ready to go. It does mushy peas and curry sauce also !

The old guy in there was picking his nose and inspecting it whilst behind the counter, the fish is covered in thick sloppy batter and full of grease and the chips were re heated, don't bother going - it's rubbish

We have just got cold fish and chips from this fish and chip shop! We even asked if the chips were hot as the did look a little old and cold. The guy serving said they were. Now this was just gone 7pm so hardly late and our drive home was 2-3 minutes away so they did not go cold on the way back. Huge portions not. The medium fish would have been nice enough it had been hot but was more like a small. Anyway it might be a one off but so bad on this occasion we will not be giving it another try.

Just moved to E17 and tried this place. Huge portions, proper chips, fluffy cod in a light batter. Be prepared to wait 15 mins or so as it's all freshly cooked, but well worth it. We'll be back.

The best chippy in the area, there are often queues outside. Been open in Wood Street for years. Delicious food and huge portions.

I am not a fan of fish and chip shops. But this place is lovely. Chips are tasty and friendly service worth a visit.

Sounds a bit drastic to say that but honestly, the fish and chips are reasonably priced, the shop is always clean, service is always friendly and they genuinely are the best chips I've tasted in a long time if not, ever and I'm glad they're on my doorstep :)

Reasonable prices.visit here regularly . Lovely staff been coming here for at least 10 years.Staff are always smiling.Friday nights are busy but worth the wait.

I love fish and chips and find this to be the best over in East London. The food is always freshly cooked and delicious. They don't sideline into other foods so really specialise in what they do best. They will also cater for outside parties etc.

Always fresh nice n clean good quick service like the fact one of the only chip shops in the area I know who sell mushey peas and curry sauce

By far Walthamstow's best chippy. Food generally cooked to order, so you often have to wait but it tastes so much better! Fish generally good quality, batter excellent, chips well cooked. Sausages are typical cheap spongy ones, but what do you expect in a chippy!

This is a good local fish and chip shop which has been feeding my for years. Great chips though the cod is dependant on the seasons. Batter can be a bit greasy at times but the cod is good. I would recommend this shop
