Two adults and three young girls visited first Fridays in august Typical seaside menu for kids Nuggets and chips and coke — big portions Breaded Scampi and chips and coke for the adults All was and all for just under £40 Great pleasant service BUT to access the toilets means a journey outside to the road — entry through another door — upstairs and not overly clean toilets that members of the public were also using Would I return — no — not because of the access to and state of toilets

Everytime in newcastle we go here and never left hungry or unhappy. The food is first class and so is the girls that serve us. We called in twice last week staying near by and nephews love the food as well. We got chicken nuggents, burgers, fresh fish, pannins not forgetting there fresh chips and it was all good well and we really enjoyed it. My youngest nephew loves there chicken goujons. Seen lovely comment left by angela. Must think she is at slieve donard hotel. Have been at broadway cafe several times when in newcastle we dont eat anywhere else. Girls serving do amazing job and very friendly. We called in twice last week for brunch and dinner and both times left stuffed and all happy. loved there FRESH CHIPS, CHICKEN GOUJONS. Nothing like mcds although cant comment on there food dont eat fast food from places like that better eat the cardboard came from. Chicken burgers, goujons, fresh fish, chicken burgers, burgers are all banging. Both nephews love it there as well. Both times left happy and will be back again when next in newcastle. Thanks all

This place should be condemned. Food boring and bland. Chips inedible, although it advertises, fresh cut chips daily (more like fresh cut Monday but used Thursday), the chips served definitely were not fresh. Chicken goujons, (if you can call them that) are a joke, you'd get better in McDonalds and cheaper. Ordered tea, i think they scooped the dishwater into the pot and served it. No toilet or hand washing facilities on the actual premises ( you have to go outside.....somewhere) and when i asked I don't even think the girl working there knew where they were, could be a potential for environmental health.

Lovely wee cafe with very friendly staff. Would definitely recommend a visit, plenty of seats, including just a wee coffee nook and books available to read.

Food was good, came out hot but most of the chips were tiny and crunchy. Husband's food wasnt as hot as mine though which was strange. Milkshake was sweet, and I did like the added touch of sprinkles. Main issue was the cost. Before ordering we had asked if the goujons came with chips and were told yes, but when it came to pay the price shot up because chips were added. Don't say something is included if it isn't! Plus the takeaway boxes are really weird, covid isn't an issue anymore. The atmosphere is a tad dead and dated. I love retro diners but it needs a bit of love. This was my first time in this diner, went in cause I had heard good things, and I don't think I'll head back. Edit: Just remembered the food came with a side salad but that wasn't on the menu? So if you order the goujons do you get salad or is the salad with the chips? Or is it an extra too? Most places do goujons with a side and salad, so I don't understand why this place sells 4 small goujons as £4.75. And bad stomach cramps brought the food rating down for me. 🤢

I left a review on Google but it needs one here too. I hate leaving bad reviews. My husband and I went here to get some lunch. Newcastle was packed but this place was pretty dead so we thought we'd pop in. He used to go here as a child and praised it so I thought it wasn't too bad. We asked did the goujons come with chips, were told yes, so we both ordered them. I did notice the place was dated but clean. Our food arrived in a takeaway box. Mine almost burnt my tongue but my husband's was just about warm... 4 goujons and the chips were okay, half of mine were the wee crunchy ones. Fresh salad and a tiny pot of mayo... Husband was ignored when he went to pay so called me up and they gave us the bill. Noticed the 4.75 goujons had shot up to 7.95, then were told the chips weren't part of the meal... why say they're included when they're not? For what we got it wasn't worth the price and my guts are regretting it this morning. 🤢 Seen a photo on here from 2018 with a menu and says the goujons come with chips and salad for a bit less than we paid. Yeah, sorry but there's no menu apart from a chalkboard and you just get 4 nugget sized goujons. Not sure if the tiny salad we got was included with the goujons or the chips, or an extra itself!

I Genuinely don't like leaving bad reviews but for this one place ive decided to change that as I actually feel scammed. Points below and story after. SERVERS, unhelpful with questions about food, actively ignoring customers (not just myself). FOOD, got 4 warm chicken goujons that are the size of a mcdonalds nuggets and tasted just as bland however chips had been good and the small salad appeared fresh. ATMOSPHERE, absolutely fine. Story of this post, as a child me and my family used to come here all the time so as a visitor into Newcastle for the first time in a while i wanted to take my wife to a place i had enjoyed as child, we went in and the place was half full (that should have been my first clue as it used to always be packed and Newcastle was really busy today being a nice summer day in a seaside resort. We went in and ordered at the counter, i asked "does the Goujons come with chips" the server says "yes" and we are shown to our table, the food arrived in a reasonable time but mine was warm with my wifes "scalding" (probably being cooked at different times), still enjoyable enough. Went to go pay and this is what made me write this review, i went up to pay and was actively ignored for around 5 minutes and it wasn't until i called my wife up to pay that we got seen to, we got the bill that confused me initially as it looked like we had been overcharged £3 each. Bill Food 7.95 Food 7.95 Milkshake 2.45 Coke 1.85 Total 20.20 So i questioned it as we had expected to pay around £15. Turns out the 4 small goujons dont include chips so what we thought would cost 4.75 ended up costing us an extra 3.20 each. We feel totally ripped off and i feel its a shame that such a lovely place has gone down hill so much.

We were a large party and you order as you go in the door and before getting a table and it turned out there wasn't and room for us to sit and they still took the orders staff not very helpful

Very reasonable price, This place is great if you love the 70's 80's dining experience, the food is actually ok , but the surroundings let it down, food served in take away containers, toilets are interesting

Fish and scampi, homemade chips very good

Went in with my partner today and sat at a table in view of the 5 young girls who were working. Even though there was only 3 other tables in the cafe Not one of them acknowledged that we were even there because all 5 of them were to busy laughing and chatting at something on one of their phones. We sat there looking round us waiting for someone to give us a menu or even offer us a drink. We waited for 10 minutes before getting up and leaving the staff were still to busy talking to each other and looking at the phone. The only acknowledgment we got was as we were leaving one of them said to the other “Go and clear that table they just came from”…………..of course there was nothing there to clear as we did not get the chance to order anything………..awful service and probably will never give this place another thought because of it.

Run of the mill food served to you in takeaway bixes

The smell of food lured me in from the street.. this cafe opened in the 1930’s and had kept its charm. Staff were lovely on arrival. Food is so tasty, just basic but done well. We came back two days in a row. Coffee is done right and the milkshakes are old style - nostalgia!!! Doggy friendly cafe. Will be back, thank you!!

Really good food and a lovely atmosphere

Old style cafe which doesn't appear to have changed much over the years but perfectly clean, staff were absolutely lovely each time we went in. Chips are freshly cut each morning and were so tasty, food is served in take away containers at takeaway prices, gluten free options available.

Not good . Cheesy chips with a sprinkle of cheese and I really mean a sprinkle, chips were not good, the scampi I think was Young's frozen that you would get in the supermarket,wooden cutlery and the cup of tea has to be the worst cup of tea ever experienced,a distinct hint of bleach absolutely awful. Highlight of the banquet was the bread n butter. Definitely could not recommend and will definitely avoid next time in Newcastle.

This place is grim, the food is dreadful and it comes out served in paper boxes with wooden cutlery. Expensive and poor quality. Avoid!

Have been twice and food was lovely and friendly staff. Only issue is they seem to be closed in the winter which is disappointing but will definitely use them again when they open in the summer season

Due to covid they can only do a breakfast bap!! In a cardboard carryout box with plastic cutlery. Only scored a 1 star as the tea was served in a proper mug.

Do not waste you money or your time stepping into this place.. Food was processed chicken no garlic mayo no gravy no bread and butter the chips were terrible. Sorry but was the worst place i have ever eaten hence the review.. I never usually right a review but for the price of the food would only. A bad mark on otherwise a good day out to Newcastle, the staff didn't seem interested one bit with us, told us if we waited outside someone would come to us, no one did! We just wanted coffee and a scone maybe this was the reason - ignorent woman that didn't have any idea on customer services...but to be fair it didn't look that clean so glad we just left without ordinary anything.

Proper old style, genuinely retro and unpretentious seaside café. I don't understand all its bad reviews; it's clean and well maintained. Someone commented that it looked like it was from the '80s but it predates the '80s and looks well for it. The owner has done well to keep it looking good with its Formica counter and terrazzo floors still in good condition, normally you see places this old and well maintained in other countries but in NI we tend to let them fall apart! I like it and hope it's around for along time to come.

The tables weren't cleaned until you had sat down and there wasn't much of a selection of food. The chips were nearly inedible and the drinks were warm and flat. The bathrooms were unsanitary. The toilet roll was wet and the bathroom looked like it had never been cleaned. Never visiting again.

The food was nice good quality food and the customer service was great there was not that many people in the restaurant at that time the social distancing was well executed by the staff and the merchant was following the social distancing guide lines

This place is very old school. But in a good way. Went in for lunch on a day trip. Food was tasty and the server was great too. It has a proper seaside town vibe.

Called into Broadway Cafe on Bank holiday Monday with my partner. All the other cafes on the street were busy apart from Broadway Cafe. Now I understand why. Very dark room and the worst coffee I have ever tasted. Tasted like dirty dish water. I could only stomach several mouthfuls and left as soon as possible. Could not recommend any less.

We went for meal food was great service slow when girls get chatting not a bad thing tho .

This restuarant is the best we think in newcastle. food is delicious, friendly atmosphere and super friendly and efficient staff. Myself and family had a really delicious lunch on Thursday 8th August 2019 and were more than pleased with everything about it. cant wait to go back again to taste more of their delicious wholesome food. long may they stay in newcastle. Everywhere I go my order is always a Caesar salad so of course I ordered one here, wish I hadn't bothered it was the worst I have ever had, who puts peppers and pineapple with a Caesar said, the chicken and bacon had been heated in the microwave , disgusting. If I could give lower than a one I would.

Good food but a bit dated inside

Really good, straightforward food. Great service and easy on the pocket. The theme of the Café is something of a mix of styles, but it's trying to emulate the look of 50s and 60s diners in America. While it doesn't quite pull it off, I found it very welcoming and the tables are well spaced and everyone can move around unlike many other places who cram tables into every corner to seat more customers. This was my first visit and can honestly say, this was the easiest recommendation for a place to eat, that I've ever given. You won't be disappointed with the food or service. I'll definitely be going back.

If I could I would give 0!!! Food wasnt cooked properly. Ordered a chicken burger recieved a thin breaded chicken fillet in a bap! No salad no sauce nothing...not impressed. Only went here as everywhere was so busy

It's like taking a step back in time! Put it this way it's been about 28 years since my husband has been and he said it hadn't changed a bit, everything exactly the same and in the same place. The food was OK, just what u expect from this type of place the menu hasn't a wide selection but has what we needed. The girls that work here are lovely, very attentive and helpful and friendly. I don't have anything bad to say so worth a visit but I expect it to be another 25 years before I'm back in it

Horrible food , worst Fish and chips I’ve ever tasted , over priced for the quality of food ... my salad was covered in mayo, why did they do this ?? When there was already a condiment dish full of tar-tar sauce on my plate.... who puts mayo with a fish n chip? Did they run out of balsamic vinegar?? would never return to this place !!

One of my absolute favourite places to eat in Newcastle, I've been here time and time again. Usually closed during the off peak season months which is unfortunate. But the food is great for the price and somewhere I will choose to come first. Try this gem of a place.

We decided to go for a meal while out and about and glad we did as (Toscanos) the Broadways Service Food and Friendliness went down well plus the value was great we will be back )

lovely meal last week wile on holiday! the chicken fillet burger with chips was beautiful! no grease at all. kids had no complaints either! the other half had the brunch, nothing ever fills him but this certainly did!

Had chicken goujons and chips here on Monday and they were delicious! Lovely crunchy coating rather than greasy batter and proper hand cut chips cooked to perfection. A simple side salad along with sweet chilli dip made it into a perfect meal. Young waitresses are all lovely, very pleasant and helpful. The menu isn't huge but they seem to do everything well which is preferable to a big menu of mediocre food. Will definitely be back next time I'm in Newcastle.

So where do I start! Someday has left this place exactly as it was some 50 years ago. If it was in a cosmopolitan city or even Belfast it would be an institution! However, I predict great things for this wee gem. Ordered Fish and chips, tea and bread as you do in a traditional seaside cafe. Did not disappoint. Fish cooked perfectly and chips so good they were sure to be bad for you. Assorted breads basket was a really nice touch and my only complaint was there was too much food and I had no room for the ice cream that was on offer at the front of the shop. When the bill arrived, I was surprised how good value it was. Next visit, I'm trying the coffee, the Electra coffee machine looks like it can do the business. I have a feeling this place is going to be around for a very long time... please, all I ask is DONT CHANGE ANYTHING! Vote with your feet and give it a try. A very happy chappy.

El mate y yo estuvimos en este lugar hoy y tenía la peor hamburguesa nunca. ¿Cómo puede una verdad chicos ir tan mal? burger Cambiar las hamburguesas estás usando o limpiar la parrilla de mierda. Putrid. £20 libras por 2 hamburguesas, latte, tremendamente botella de agua y una coca cola.

Semana Santa Miércoles ocupados, pero había unas pocas mesas. El lugar estaba limpio y el servicio era rápido y eficiente. Comida tardó wee mientras pero no nos decepcionó, ya que las cosas eran perfectas! Las patatas fritas eran frescos y hechos a la perfección - no he tenido como patatas bonito en las edades! ! Cod también era genial y el resto de la comida. Bueno sencillo de cocinar. Sin duda volveremos.

I should've seen the warning signs when I went in of uncleared tables and staff not really that bothered about clearing them. Service was ridiculously slow then when our food came, my fish and chips had clearly been sitting waiting on the other food as it was cold. Pointed this out when getting the bill and in keeping with the theme of the staff, the waitress really wasn't that bothered. Won't be back.

This is a great place for a nice milky coffee,chips and a home made Italian pizza.. they serve the best ice cream ever

So we were the first customers of the day, recieved a portion of chips which my husband was appaled with as they looked like the gregs you get at the end of the day despite a claim that all their chips were freshly cut! More appalingly we were charge 2.95 for the privilage!! (the same a sausage sandwich) The food prices on the whole were reasonable and the food is what you would expect from a seaside cafe.

This is a trusted and dependable place to eat in Newcastle. Old School style 'Diner' which has been around since 1931!
