Britannia Spice in Charnwood

I had a biryani King prawn it was nothing like a biryani at all. There was two king prawns and they had been chopped up. It was £11.90. What a rip off we had a takeaway delivered to our home and our Friend meals were okay the biryani was an absolute joke, it’s a shame really because we’ve been before and it was really nice but too king prawns chopped up come on

Don't order food from SPICE LOUNGE, Shepshed if you're hungry ! We ordered a couple of weeks ago, ordered at 6, told it would be delivered by 7:30pm. Rang at 8:15 to see how long it would be and told they were busy but it was on it's way ..... finally arrived at 9:20pm. Food tasted ok, but stone cold. Gave them the benefit of the doubt and tried them again tonight. Ordered at 5pm with a delivery time of 6:20, rang at 7:15 and told it would be half an hour, rang again at 8:15 and told it was just being checked and would be delivered straight away, it finally arrived at 9:10pm !! Stone cold again !! I understand they may get busy, so why not just tell the truth about delivery times instead of blatantly lying every time you ring. Pity, because once we had finally received the order and reheated it in microwave it wasn't too bad. Won't be ordering again. 😡😡

I went the other day with three very good friends, we had an excellent meal. The staff were very welcoming.

The Staff attentive and smart. Cleanliness was perfect. It is small so book if your wanting a Saturday night. You can bring your own alcohol but they serve nonalcoholic ((not the best nonalcoholic beer though). The food excellent and a large menu. Tablecloth restaurant which is good. A must for my future Indian food.

Disappointing to say the least! If I could rate a minus star they would be minus 5. So, here we go…… I pre ordered at around 4pm for a delivery before 630. There was no order acknowledgment so I popped down at just after 5 to make sure it had been received, which it had, so I paid and returned home to await the delivery of my food at the promised time. Around 625 I received a text to say my long anticipated delivery would take place in 20 minutes, ok I thought, they must be busy (despite my pre order) not happy but nothing much I could do. About 655 another text arrived informing me my food was on its way, by this time I was past hungry and the cat was nervously avoiding my ravenous stare. I cracked, casting all British resolve and stiff upper lip to the four winds, I phoned them, only to be told that the driver was knocking at my door this very second! I rushed expectantly to my door to be met by a couple of pigeons and a man walking his dog. I was just about to dissolve into a self-pitying heap of blubbering hunger, when , as if by magic the delivery driver appeared, thrusting a large bag of food into my trembling hands, I thanked him and scurried back inside, triumphantly calling those of the household who had survived this famine to the table. The food was very disappointing, if we were not so hungry it would have gone straight in the bin. Luke warm, the starters were overcooked (soggy disgusting garlic mushrooms, dry mix kebab and stale salad). The naan was ok yippee! The mushroom rice was mediocre, bland and overcooked and the chicken madras was also bland and not at all spicy. I would suggest you think again before wasting your money buying from this establishment, they can’t cook and have no idea about customer service. Save your money and get a ready meal from Asda, at least you know what you’re paying for.

I love the food from here - its tasty, hot and plenty of it. However this is he 2nd time that we've had to wait 2.30 mins for our delivery. I take it they are busy on New Years eve but be honest about delivery times. They said 1 hour 20 mins and it was almost double this time. Usually you get a free poppadum and pickles but nothing on htis occasion. Pleaasee sort it out

Tried the Spice Lounge as we normally go to a different takeaway locally but think we will stay with where we normally go. Didn’t deliver everything we ordered, wasn’t that hot and for some of the dishes, hardly any meat! Very tasty but lacking in other areas

First visit to this restaurant and was not disappointed. Had heard good things about it prior to our meal and they were all right. Vast choice of food choices on the menu. Each dish that was served was freshly good to a very high standard. Piping hot and plenty of it - no danger of leaving hungry. They don’t serve alcohol but you can take your own with you. They do serve soft drinks so do ask that you don’t bring your own of these which is fair enough. Great value for money and even offer delivery. Can highly recommend and I’m sure I’ll be returning soon!!

Asked for a jeera and for it to be hot. All I got was a very very watery dry chicken slop with no flavour. Keema nan was over cooked one side and under cooked the other side. No pickles with the popadoms and the popadoms were very greasy. I’ve never gave a review on here but I was that dissatisfied i needed to to as it was that bad

Excellent customer service - when one item was forgotten from our order it did not bother us a great deal. However, the restaurant staff realised their mistake and dropped the missing item later on. They were really apologetic and explained everything. The food was really good too. I’d recommend.

A friend took us to this restaurant as a treat. So pleased we did this is a lovely quaint restaurant friendly staff with excellent service. We called at 6.30pm on a Friday night it was about a third full and by the time we left it was full. I ordered the chicken dopiaza and it was excellent, the others had lamb naga and the murgh chilli masala, also very good but hot!. Lemon rice, egg fried rice and a naan. You take your own drinks we shared a bottle of wine. I really enjoyed our first time and it will not be the last

We've eaten here a couple of times and really been impressed with the service and the food. Very friendly people and the food is really good. You can take your own alcohol So that makes it a reasonable priced evening out. Everything is well presented with lovely flavours, with a nice relaxing atmosphere. Will visit again soon

This place has been a curry house for over 20 years, with varying degrees of success but the current owners have surely got it right at last! I was struck on walking in how warm the place was and how nicely decorated it is now (even the loos) the place was spotless, even the menus were not stained in previous diners meals like so often is the case. Tucked into a delicious Lamb Balti, lemon rice, naan bread, poppadoms, pickles and garlic mushrooms for an unbelievable £21!!! Bring your own alcohol too! Can't wait to go again!!!

DISGUSTING RESTAURANT!! Ordered food, they delivered the wrong curries. When we called they refused to replace what we had ordered, shouted as us and hung up the phone. We attempted to call back several times, each time they heard it was us on the other line they hung up. the dish we received was watery and inedible. Uploading video to trip advisor. Horrible food, horrible people!

Easily the best Indian in Shepshed. The food is amazing! I've not heard anyone say a bad word about this place! Me and my girlfriend often go or a have a takeaway. Polite staff and a good atmosphere.

Had a takeaway a couple of nights ago yet again the food was faultless. Tasty tender meat and lots of it aswell the best vindaloo for miles.

Estaba claramente fresco y de buena calidad de los ingredientes, muy bien preparado con sabores complejos. Estaremos encantados de recomendar este lugar a familiares y amigos y volveremos pronto. Vale la pena destacar que este es un restaurante de alcohol trae su propia aunque refrescos están disponibles.

The 90 minutes passed and I rang again to be told the driver had left a while before and would be with me soon and to call back should he be any longer than 10 minutes. I checked the app and it displayed the order as delivered when it clearly had not been. It had just gone 9pm, 2 hours after I placed my order and I received a call from the delivery driver who was lost and couldn't understand that their is a car park off the road behind my flats, he requested I came out and find him, I went down the 2 flights of stairs, round the corner and down to road to find him parked up. He said to call it £15, £1.40 off my order but seeing as I only had 2 £10 notes and he had little change, I paid 90p less than the full order price. Food was average, probably been sat for a while. Needless to say I shall not be using this restaurant again and not using just eat as there is no guarantee on delivery times. I visited March 2016 with family and we had a lovely meal. Very attentive young waiter and owner along as well as amazing food and atmosphere. Can't really go wrong with this place!! Highly recommend

The driver eventually rang us 30mins after the order was due and demanded we go and fetch our order from his car as he couldn't find our house - he had driven up the wrong fork of our cul-de-sac. Easily best Indian in the area. Regularly come here, friendly staff and excellent food. Well worth a visit

We order a take away, it came after hour & half. To be disappointed, the lamb was to tuff to eat. We also order chicken which was nothing special, & the portion was a bit on the small sizes. I rang them to complain & they told me we could have a free meal next time. But there will not be a next time...

I love this place for all occasions with family and friends. The service is brilliant as is the food.I always have the chicken pakora to start followed by simple but delicious chicken tikka masala with pilau rice (with fried onions on top which is a nice touch). They serve soft drinks and J2O's etc and it's bring your own alcohol. I highly recommend this restaurant!

OK if you don't mind waiting for 2 hours 30 minutes for delivery and you don't mind luke-warm food. We suspect that the extra curry that was offered as a gesture had been rejected by another dissatisfied customer

Found restaurant by chance when coming through to Loughborough. What a brilliant surprise and we really enjoyed our visit. The meal was fantastic and staff very helpful. Will definitely return when next coming up to Loughborough.

I've tried all of the Indian eateries in Shepshed. Out Of India is the benchmark however this place is a great contender. I now use Britannia Spice for my takeaways and recently had a meal in the restaurant with my dad. The food is consistently of good quality and very tasty.

Absolute disaster with delivery order. 2 hours from ordering to delivery. Restaursnt when phoned to chase said had been dispatched 10 minutes ago. Once again when phoned afrer 20 minutes after said conversation, lets just say your probably getting as bored as i was. Overall, if your hungary and want a good service, i'd try another restaurant as i will next time.

Food was 1 1/2 hrs later , barely warm , keema naan bread had barely any meat in it . The bill was wrong and the service was completely useless. If your pissed before you get there im sure you'll love it if not avoid at all costs

After seeing the great reviews this restaurant already had we were intrigued and most certainly weren't disappointed.Really good menu with lots of chefs specials along with all the traditional dishes.Service was brilliant and food came out perfectly timed and very fresh. The chef is a real credit to this place, we eat Indian out quite a lot and my dish was one of the best I've had. Cooked from fresh, lovely ingredients and the chicken was cooked to perfection.Very highly recommended and can't wait to visit again soon.

Not so impressed with this. At nearly forty quid it was a bit on the pricey side for two mains and two starters, but we thought we'd live the high life for New Year. Putting the order in at 7.30 I was a bit surprised that they thought they would deliver 45 minutes later - I was expecting it to be busier than that. Evidently it was. Two and a quarter half hours later I was getting ready to walk down there and find out what had happened, as they weren't answering the phone. It turned up as I was going out of the door at 10 o'clock. Food was okay, though not really outstanding for the price, and had it been delivered after forty five minutes it might have still been hot. Instead it was, at best, lukewarm. Won't be going back in a hurry, and I certainly wouldn't recommend a delivery from there if you are indeed in a hurry. Or if you expect any kind of level of reasonable communication.

Our takeaway arrived over an hour late. We tried ringing on several occasions but all members of staff failed to answer the phone. When our food finally arrived we got no apology for the very late delivery. The food was not hot, just warm. We feel very disappointed with the overall service from Britannia Spice and doubt we will order from here again.

Must admit, great food but very very overpriced compared to similar local quality takeaways, sorry mate but realised the huge cost difference !!!

Superb food excelent staff. They don't sell alcohol but you are welcome to take your own. We don't eat out often but when we do it is usually Britannia Spice.

The Britannia Spice is an excellent little Indian restaurant hidden in the heart of Shepshed. Hardly the curry capital of the country one might think but this restaurant could help make it so. This is a friendly place with an extensive menu. Some of it is familiar, some not so. Portions are generous and the food extremely well done to one's taste in spiciness. But the flavours are excellent. Good news also that you are welcome to take your own alcohol. Good deal.

Excellent food-had a callback from the restaurant to check the order and to let me know that they were really busy, so delivery may take a little longer than usual. The owner even threw in a free Bombay aloo and some popadoms as a good will gesture for the wait! Came here for dinner with my work colleagues after being recommended by a friend.The place was fairly busy when we arrived but we were seated straight away. We were then greeted by the owner who was very polite and friendly. Our order was taken promptly and food arrived in good time.Everyone loved their dishes! My chicken jalfrezi was extremely good!I would highly recommend this place to anyone!

Always a friendly welcome, lots of choice and help on hand if you are unsure. Food is cooked freshly to order and is reasonably priced so along with the 'Bring Your Own' alcohol facility it makes for an inexpensive treat.

I can never quite understand why when passing this place is not as busy as it should be. The food, ambience and staff are good, as is the food. We both enjoyed good hospitality and good food. Taking your own beer also keeps the prices down - when the bill comes it is quite surprising. There is as always a good choice on the menu, and we will certainly be returning. Thanks to all

I love this restaurant the above dish isn't on the menu but the chef said no problem . The prawns where huge and cooked perfectly .MoThe owner is always friendly and goes out of his way to give you good service . Anything you want he will try and accomadate . Just what the village needs us it's bring your own drink x

We love this place, we frequently order food for delivery (probably twice a week) it's always hot and on time, has amazing flavours and tastes fantastic! If you want something that isn't on the menu then just give them a ring and they will sort you out. Well worth a try :)

Visited this evening after seeing the great reviews and we weren't disappointed!! There is lots of king prawn and fish dishes which is great as my partner and I love king prawn dishes! The food is very tasty fresh!!! The staff are also great and make a lovely atmosphere, always happy to help and make a lot of time for you and make you feel like a valued customer!This will be a restaurant we now use regularly and can't wait to come back soon!! Me and my friends decided to get a takeaway last minute and decided on here. Boy are we glad we did! So tasty and great value for money! Catered for lunch tomorrow too as there was plenty in a portion. They even threw in some popadoms and potatoes for free. The gentleman on the end of the phone who took our order and delivered to us as well was extremely pleasant and lovely to talk to. Will definitely be ordering from here again and probably even nip in for the restaurant experience as well on evening. 5*

Whilst we ate our curry we played a game....hunt the chicken! Lots of sauce, but very little meat. Bit of a rip off really.

Never ever have we been let down here, service superb, food hot an delicious. Maybe much more expensive than others, but we think it's worth it
