We've visited a few times now for both lunch and dinner and have really enjoyed the experience. The food is delicious, the restaurant itself is beautiful, the service has always been very good and the view is spectacular! The restaurant also has a little drinks terrace overlooking the river, which seems to be very popular in the summer. Will definitely be back!

Took my parents to celebrate their 66th Wedding Anniversary last night. Service was friendly but ineffective… a definite lack of staff training. Despite chasing, our Drinks finally arrived when we were all but finished our meal ! Totally unacceptable. Apparently the bar was busy and only one bar person on duty. So it seems that bar patrons were served while diners were put on the back burner. No one came to clear the plates or ask if we wanted desserts or more drinks, which we would have normally ordered. Food was tasty , although chips were overcooked. Sadly the poor service made for an overall disappointing experience.

This is our regular spot now for my family! Our family feels very welcomed and at ease even with two children under 5. The new management is doing fab with loads of new fun ideas and great service. We love the menu and the food, the curry is a favourite! So tasty! If you're looking for holiday vibes in fife, the decking and the cocktails fit perfectly ! If you're looking for a cosy traditional pub, the pub area covers this. And if you're looking for a nice meal with beautiful views and a touch of sophistication , the restaurant fits this too! What more do you need ! We will continue to support this local business and wish you luck !

As a family we would pop over the water to visit regularly. Since new ownership this was the first time and unfortunately probably the last. The staff although nice and friendly were inexperienced in my opinion, not their fault. Some training required. The place was dirty which was a big no no for me ! Food alright, pub grub, drinks very expensive! Such a shame as lovely location. New owner needs to step up in my opinion, sorry.

Boat Brae , before it was taken over , was one of the Best restaurants in Fife . The Menu was impressive with food to match . Sadly , our visit last week was extremely disappointing . Very limited and uninspired menu . Food was very average and we were the only diners upstairs . In the past , the restaurant would always be busy . Staff were pleasant but grossly undertrained . Such a shame with a fantastic venue like like . Won’t be returning .

Under new ownership, our visit today was sadly a very different experience to many happy meals in the past. There's a limited "pub grub" type menu, which would be fine if done well, but this was cooked badly and served with indifference. Waiting staff disappeared after clearing our mains and that was that. With such a stunning location this could be a real destination restaurant, but as it is, I'd have to say avoid.

New Owners for Boat Brae. Not the best start. Starter came along with the main course? Mains were ok but chips were frozen hollow things with no taste. Prices are cheaper but the menu choice is small just now. Maccy cheese was average. Burger was nice. Chicken pakoras were the starter but arrived with the mains. Owner and entourage were causing a rumpus at the end of the bar. A bit unprofessional we thought. Sorry.

This place is under new ownership, so I thought I would give it another chance .unfortunately the bar service is no better than it used to be , the Newport-on-Tay festival was taking place, so you would have thought they would employ more staff ,but no , they had two people serving who appeared to be working in slow motion. Great venue but let down by poor service .

A disappointing end to what should have been a lovely evening. They have a policy of 1.30 minutes for your meal and then expect you to vacate the table and go and sit in the noisy bar. We didn't have a starter only a main and dessert. We ordered coffee with 1/2 an hour to spare and we were asked to leave the table after 20 mts without receiving our coffee. We ended up downstairs in the overflow restaurant - no nice comfy chairs or relaxing atmosphere. Felt like we were being dismissed.

Great food, terrible service. We were told we had 90 minutes to vacate our table on arrival, and we responded light heartedly that it was up to them to complete the service in time. Main and dessert delivered ok, but coffee took 20+ minutes to arrive. By then our time limit had expired and we were shunted to a downstairs dark corner for coffee as the next guest would be arriving shortly. Great view from windows and food let down by a poor standard of service. They should not allocate 90 minutes if they can't deliver. It all smacks of squeezing as much money as possible from each table, to the detriment of good service.

Wow wow wow! That’s all I can say atm! Did a starter of bread and oil, the bread blew our minds!! Mains were steak and the fish! The steak was PERFECT for me and my husband waxed lyrical all the way through his fish! I’ve never seen him so animated!! Had a drink each .. the bill was quite a surprise, as in, cheaper than we had envisaged! We got a table at the window!! The ambience and service, was second to none! A shout out to Fraser the chef! This is our second visit to The Boat Brae and I gave it 5 stars last time and I have no hesitation in doing so again. This has now become the ideal “watering hole” whilst out walking in that part of Fife, especially on a cold day and this fine eatery makes for a perfect “journeys end”. We sat, as before, at the window table adjacent to the kitchen. It’s always an education watching chefs at work! The young serving staff were attentive, friendly and engaging. Good thing - there was no rush!!! The carrot & coconut soup, which we all had, was fab, served piping hot with lovely fresh bread. We all had something different from the menu, mixing the mains with the sandwiches and chips of course. The only negative observation was that the macaroni cheese was perhaps a tad dry but it was still eaten without complaint. Everything else was excellent. Great chips. The food was hot, well presented and good portions. Only one (me) had a sweet and it is worthy of note the chocolate torte was yummy. All considered it very good value for money too. There will be no hesitation in returning the next time we venture to the north of Fife for a long walk.

Started off well. Nice staff, lovely starter but main course was a bit disappointing; my husband had the fish and chips, the fish looked soggy to me and he left some chips which is not like him. His Cullen skink starter was superb. I had the duck pate which was very nice then the Caesar salad. It was so dry to start with that I thought they had forgotten to add the dressing however it was actually in the bottom of the dish. The chicken was supposed to be breast so I was surprised to find a bone in it. We sat for over 40 minutes with dirty plates whilst our waiter had his lunch behind us. We had to shout the waitress over to order dessert, which was very nice. Very average experience given the hype around this venue. We expected more. Prosecco was £9.70 per glass. Mmm. Not sure it was worth that. We won’t recommend and won’t be back. There are nicer places in Dundee and Wormit

Lovely premises spotlessly clean with tasteful decoration. Comfy seats. Superb views across to Dundee, outside area must be popular in summer. Parking may be problem, part of one way system, we got the last available parking space outside the restaurant. Welcoming staff, smartly dressed, well trained and helpful, just the right blend of attentive without being intrusive. We are in our 70’s and no longer eat huge meals, mores the pity would have loved to try the Cullen Skink here. We both had fish and chips, fish very fresh, broke up as soon as you put a fork to it, translucent flesh, batter very light and tasty, chips best I have tasted for a long time, dry and proper chips not thin imitations. Tartar sauce very good too. We could not eat a sweet unfortunately we were too full but every plate we saw going past the table looked very good and plentiful. Chef seen to take a pride in presentation. Wine list good too, white Rioja was excellent, star of list was Meerlust, if I had a steak this is the wine to go for and good value. Coffee good too, not bitter with decent tablet Must return for Cullen skink and have a sweet rather than a main course.

Once again shocking service from Boat Brae, my daughter and boyfriend were in last night for a special and well needed break from Uni. ONLY 1 draft on tap which was Guinness!!!!! Let's be honest the menu is very limited but when my daughter arrived at the table half the dishes on the menu were NOT available, is this the service we really expect from such a lovely venue????? The food from previous owner and head chef, which if you scroll down far enough are still using as pictures to promote todays food service, & was exceptional. But now since the new head chef, menus owners and service i have only frequented the restaurant a couple of times as I have lost confidence and I live locally. My husband and I had a lovely meal this lunchtime and have enjoyed Boat Brae many times before. You really can't beat them for the amazing view, the friendly staff and the bangin food. So glad they are back after suffering fire damage last year....
