Blockhouse at The Sheet Anchor in Newcastle-under-Lyme

Joined family from far and wide to get together for a special lunch. Never been before but i was delighted at the menu choice something for everyone. Staff were excellent and very friendly and helpful. Lovely warm atmosphere and decor. Food was first class everyone enjoyed theirs. Would definitely recommend the chicken fajita and the burgers. Will definitely be coming again

I'll never understand a service charge. This isn't the USA and if I don't have the option to collect my own food, why should I have to pay a charge for it to be paraded across the restaurant to my table? Also had to remind staff of a missing drink..... service charge, nice one.

Lovely barbecue grill place in a pleasant location. The interior is wonderfully decorated with a cozy fireplace and great themed props (though the knife wall is a little bit intimidating (but cool though don't get rid)) the food is well made and a delight to eat. Would definitely recommend for the food and for the scenery

Tables for 2 a little too close together. I kept thinking the waiter was talking to us but it was a different table. Everything else is awesome, excellent food and service. We expect this is going to be our new favourite place to eat.

When it was quiet when we first got there. The staff were overattentive.we told them we were waiting for another two people to arrive and they kept coming asking if we were ready to order. Then, when it got busy later on. we asked for a dessert menu which came very quickly. Then it took 20 minutes for somebody to come and take our order. we asked twice they said I’ll come to you after I’ve done this.which presume for serving somebody else

Extra Thanks to Stefan and all the staff this evening, we didn’t book but that wasn’t an issue. Quick service and very tasty food.

Went here for a 21st birthday meal and cannot fault it at all. The service was fantastic and sớwas all the food. Highly recommended

We've been here twice now - it's a convenient location for a meet-up. We've only been to the restaurant - can't comment on the pub. Service was good (both times) - the waiters seemed to know their stuff and it was about as quick as I'd expect so no issues there. I like it - its very modern in its menu, and very meat-orientated which perhaps as a veggie I might not be expected to like, but there are a few veggie options which are good. I might suggest a few more veggie options - there's a vegan burger which I didn't try, because frankly vegan burgers try to imitate meat too much. I find meat pretty repulsive so why would I want something like it? However, give me a veggie burger, or just lots of haloumi, put it with chips, jalapenos, all the normal sides, even more jalapenos and a bit more haloumi on top and that's a happy-me. Oktoberfest on the menu is a great idea. I've long thought that German and specifically Bayerische food is fantastic. However - just a pointer - Kase-spatzle should be a main not a topping, and a big 'just-come-off-the-mountain-main' at that. Meeting up with older family, their comments could be summarized as - perhaps there could be a couple of traditional things on the menu for people like that. Additionally, it felt that there could be a bit more on the menu for puddings - the choice there was a touch limited. I've written a lot here seemingly critical of the menu, and I don't really intend it to be that critical because overall I like it, will come back, and would recommend it. It's a little on the pricy side but not really unreasonable for what it is.

Our experience was far below expectations. From the moment we arrived, the service was lackluster. The waiter was unwelcoming, seemed disinterested, and mumbled through our interactions, making it difficult to communicate. The food was equally disappointing. The ribs arrived cold and were presented in a way that was far from appetising. The chicken burger was drowned in sauce, making it nearly inedible. To make matters worse, the children's popcorn chicken was burnt—something I didn't even think was possible. Throughout the meal, not once did anyone check on us to see if everything was satisfactory. This lack of attentiveness meant we had no opportunity to address our concerns until after we had finished eating. As a result, both of our main courses were left uneaten. What makes this experience even more frustrating is that it occurred on a Monday night, with the restaurant far from busy. There are no excuses for such poor service and food quality under these circumstances. The only reason this review isn’t a 1-star rating is because the manager was genuinely apologetic and made an effort to rectify the situation by crediting us for the mains. This gesture was appreciated, but it doesn’t change the fact that the overall experience was severely lacking. It feels as though this particular location has been neglected by the Paragon Group. I hope they take this feedback seriously and make the necessary improvements.

Food very average for the price.. every time we try here there is always a number of things on the menu that they have ran out of . staff friendly but training is needed . Quite a lot of cob webs etc needs a bit of a clean . We asked for water for the table and bottled chargeable was brought … most places just bring you tap water now unless you have asked for bottled. There is much nicer places about for this sort of price.

Fabulous meal with the family. The staff were very accommodating, seated us earlier than our booking and very attentive throughout - especially Amy for who nothing was too much trouble! The food was 10/10 - highly recommend the Biscoff satay sauce. We will definitely come back again very soon.
