Block and Barrel in Pembrokeshire

Am a regular customer of the takeaway service in the past bit after tonight no longer. The food was 35 minutes late and food was cold. Dont usually compain but this was my one meal of the day. Due to illness have ro rely on people to get my meals. The lady on the telephone was uninterested. Said i could have another meal but it would take a while. No refund offered. So disappointing

I back already 3 time in week to that place! Veggie burger just amazing!!! But coffee just incredibly great! 👍👍👍👍 Highly recommend! 11/10

Visited NARBERTH Branch for lunch. 1st choice off menu not available. 1st Choice off wine list, not available. Cod and Chips not nice at all. Cod over cooked (poss' microwaved) chips were over cooked and tasteless and the mushy peas were just overcooked tinned peas. Table was dirty and sticky. Other customers were asking for their tables to be cleaned, and it wasn't even busy. Partners Ploughmans was just ok. Not a very pleasant dinning experience, better establishments in Narberth. On the plus side, the seats were comfortable

Not really recommended. No food hygiene rating sticker to be seen. It was an ok burger, i prefer mine well cooked, that we had to wait for ages for, and that after being told that 2 of the 4 orders we had placed were not possible......?! the latte was gross and even after adding sugar (which i never add usually) it was still gross. The fries were ok.

NARBERTH BRANCH. One of the rudest staff members I've encountered. Seemed to begrudge even taking our order. Staff spent most of the time chatting in back and not attending to customers. Tables weren't getting cleaned. Everyone was waiting forever but it wasn't even busy. Half the menu wasn't even available. Had to ask twice and wait 15 minutes just for a glass of tap water. I was told grumpily; "it's being dealt with!" Had to ask for the table to be cleaned and the waitress came back with a tiny WET WIPE and just pushed the crumbs around the table. The table was still STICKY!! Food tasted cheap and microwaved. Just a horrible experience!!

Steak sandwich was delicious and plenty of it 😃

Excellent service, very friendly indeed. All the food tasted delicious, but special commendation goes to the homemade cheesecake.

The restaurant has a nice friendly ,cosy atmosphere,it also seems to attract a nice clientele, friendly staff and nothing seems too much trouble,which is very rare these days with catering staff 😊

Cracking little restaurant and quite possibly one of the best burgers I've eaten. Delicious food, lovely friendly staff and reasonably priced. If I lived locally I'd be back to try the steak. We will be back...

I came 25 miles because of your reviews but I found my experience a bit 'meh' to be honest. Not greeted warmly. Cold and uninspiring interior. No care taken with the breakfast. I had a Veggie Breakfast which turned up with rubbery and overdone eggs, luke warm beans, not the advertised Glamorgan Veggie Sausages and flat mushrooms that had seen much better days. No brown sauce either! The hashbrowns were very nice. The flat white was mainly froth. Apparently your burgers are great. But I won't ever be back to find out. I walked past the towns Weatherspoons to get to you. I imagine I might get a better meal in their at a lower cost. I will find out next time.

Over from Ireland on one of my frequent trips to Pembrokeshire, but this was my first time trying a Sunday Lunch from Block & Barrel. The food was piping hot on collection (they deliver too I’m told) and remained hot for all of the 20 minute drive home. I can’t say enough about the quality - roasts sere succulent and portions so generous. Fresh fresh vegetables - and so impressive - (carrots, creamed leeks, cheesy potatoes & roasters, lovely cabbage, whole green beans) NOT overdone all cooked to perfection (not an easy task when mass producing meals) and the meat was ‘fall off the fork’ tender (we had Beef and Lamb) - topped off by THE most flavoursome gravy. We will definitely be back and I simply cannot recommend Block & Barrel enough for anyone looking for exquisite taste & value for money. A real Sunday lunch treat in Wales!

What a fabulous Sunday Roast today, they were really busy but thankfully squeezed us in . Their Roasts are always amazing. Thank you Mark, Lou and the team 🥰 Another amazing Sunday Roast delivery 24/3. Tasted amazing, my mum really enjoyed her surprise dinner too!! 🍽 😊

Cozy, rustic but modern with a super chilled atmosphere, right up my street!🤩 I had the 8oz sirloin 🤤 dauphinoise potatoes too… nom nom.. the mushroom with blue cheese and onion confit a lush little extra also. The husband had the 20oz rump and also savoured every last mouthful. Proper onion rings too; bangin! Every single element of our meals and general experience were absolutely faultless, if you enjoy a steak then get booked in, you will not be disappointed!! Nice one chef! The cocktails were two for one tonight which was a bonus too 😝 Last but certainly not least, let’s talk about Paula, when I tell you that service doesn’t come any better I’m not playing around; An absolute credit to the owners. Paula was the PERFECT attentive host, oozing experience, confidence, warmth and a genuine care to deliver 5* service. All while tackling two flights of stairs like it’s nothing! I just can’t stress enough how much she deserves recognition. Anyway, there’s a chateaubriand I called dibs on so I’ll be back there soon! Thanks team!

Probably one of the best hot takeaway Sunday lunches I've ever had the enjoyment of.... Even after a 30 min drive home, the food was PIPING hot, cooked to perfection and OMG The FLAVOUR. If there were 10 star options, they have it. Also excellent value for money for what you received. As the parent of picky eaters, the significant portions were demolished. Thoroughly recommend.

21 of us were there on Monday and the food was excellent. The service was excellent. Twice in a row for our Xmas dinner. Will be back again

What a find! We ate here last night and as a party of 4 we are all really happy with both food and service. Steaks were cooked to perfection and the service was first class. We'll definitely be back

One of the best burgers I’ve ever had outside of the US, and that’s coming from an American! Their beef is locally sourced, which is a huge plus. Lovely vibe inside, and an excellent way to start the journey into the welsh coast.

i really don’t understand where a lot of these lower rates reviews are coming from, i ordered a burger and i feel confident saying it was one of the best ive had, and the cocktails easily were, the espresso martini no was to die for i would really recommend the place

Amazing place. First of all the food is so nice and so is the service, everyone had a nice attitude to customers. I would happily eat here again and maybe lower the prices a bit

Visited just over a month ago and have waited this long to leave a review as the manager wanted to make amends for our terrible meal but never did. Arrived at 8pm and ordered the T-Bone and Sirloin (Medium Rare) Food arrived an hour after us ordering and both steaks were cremated. Didn’t take a bite as it was plain to see that it was completely overcooked. These things happen so no biggy. Manager came over and immediately acknowledged this and returned the food. 30 minutes later our steaks returned, this time cooked medium rare. Unfortunately the T-Bone was completely bland along with the dauphinois potatoes and peppercorn sauce (also very oily). The sirloin was adequate, had some flavour. I called the manager over and expressed how disappointed I was. He acknowledged that the T-Bone was sent back by another customer that evening and assured us that they use a well known butchers in Carmarthen. I stated that I was going to eat and pay for it as it was now almost 9:45pm and was starving. At time of payment, the manager asked for my address as he was going to send a bottle of wine along with a voucher as we were local and wanted our repeat business. Guess what? No wine or voucher. Won’t be returning.

Staff were friendly but food was a disappointment. I ordered poached egg with mashed advacado. The eggs were overcooked and the advacado was almost non existent.. more like a thin spread of advacado. Staff had failed to remove scum that accumulated during poaching leaving it on my eggs.

I have been here with delivery so may times to house this time was disappointing as stake was full of fat pateners was lovely. Peper sauce was over meal when should of been in pot. Sorry I think meals was was great every time this time 😞 disappointing sorry

Delicious food and plentiful, tasty and we'll cooked. Only complaint is the food would taste so much better if it was served hot and not just warm as it gets cold quickly.

Chef must have been off sick. Very poor Sunday roast. Thought this type of British food was consigned to the past. If your a fan of 1980s school dinners might be right for you. Food was grey and over cooked did not match pictures posted by others. We were first people in and 2 out of the 5 lunch options were not available. Very indifferent teenage mubling service too. Decor would lead you expect way better quality food. Won't risk it again.

Had a recommendation to go here and the decor and general vibe gave the impression that the food would be good. Our Sunday roast was edible but not much more. Grey overcooked meat, grey overcooked veg and packet gravy. Very average service too. Reading the other reviews on here is making me wonder if the chef was on holiday, or if we were just unlucky. But very unlikely to risk a return visit.

I found the staff here very abrupt and rude I had asked for access to the toilet but they said I had to make an order first which I did. On my return I asked if my order was ready ( it was only a cup of tea which I didn't really want but accepted that I would order to access the toilet .,) I was told that my order would be ready when they had completed the other orders . Left my tea - an expensive loo stop and very rude staff. Spoke to another couple outside who says they did the same but had coffee that was terrible,. Certainly won't be back !

Went here at short notice, without booking and were delighted to get the last table. Lovely friendly staff, food was fantastic and cooked how we like it. We both had steak and there are various options to choose from. Priced in line with the food in the area, so can't complain. Would highly recommend

Some menu items unavailable (drinks and chicken options), brie starters undercooked. Vegetarian burger undercooked and not a good consistency or flavour. Service and ambiance good let down by food and price.

Great little place. Got in quite late but they were very accommodating. Our waiter was very friendly and professional. Food tasted very nice, the burger was very tasty and juicy. Cocktails were nice. Even thou we were in roughly at closing time, we didn’t feel rushed. We left quite quickly mainly because we saw their opening times on here, but a ta le was still sitting down on our way out. Thank you for the nice dinner. Definitely recommended.

I had the beef stew from the specials board, it come with cibatta bread and butter. It was absolutely amazing, very clean & good service. Will definitely be eating here again 10/10 👍👍

First time I have visited, and will be the last. Ordered a rump steak. It was without doubt the worst steak I have ever been served. Commented to the waiter about the poor quality of the steak. He said he would mention it to the chef. No feedback was received, so I guess they are happy to serve lousy steak.

Went to the block and barrel for a birthday meal (9 people in total) as much as we enjoyed the food the service was terrible! Finished our food to which we had to wait 10 minutes for the plates to be cleared. When the plates was cleared they left two on the side of the table which it took an extra 5 minutes to come back and clear the plates to which the waitress asked if it was okay to take the plates away even though they had started to clear the table. After they had done this we then waited another 15 minutes to which one of the guests then went up to pay even though we was waiting for a desert menu which never got brought to us or even asked if we would like to see this menu. The two young girls just stood by the bar chatting. Like I said the food was fabulous and I am going to complement the chief but the two young girls running the restaurant the table service was shocking.

Had a great Full English and Coffee. Don't be afraid to call someone over, they can sometimes leave you to your own devices.

Really tasty, although be warned, the curry is very hot! Cocktails were ok, although missing key ingredients. Great atmosphere and wonderful staff.

Our second lunch at the Block & Barrel, we both had rump steak which was top quality and cooked superbly. Also great chips and great desserts: The kind of meal you remember. Staff were friendly, efficient and helpful. It was a cold December day and I didn't want to leave our dogs in the car, so asked if we could bring them in, and were told they have two dog-friendly tables (those nearest the door). Our two dogs were given a warm welcome. I assume the outdoor tables are also dog-friendly, though it was too cold for those today. Will definitely eat here again. Location is not exactly glam (though it is conveniently central, right by the Castle car park) but the place is nicely laid out inside and the food quality excellent.

Was extremely disappointed with my experience here especially considering the price of the food. Had their festive turkey burger and was so dry I couldn't eat it. Was sat there for ages just trying to chew through the first bite my knife and fork couldn't even go through the burger. Then had a Christmas pudding with 'brandy' sauce that tasted nothing like brandy and was vile and barely warm. Male server just shrugged at anything we said. Extra star only because the cocktails were very good and the lady serving us too was lovely. Will not return.

Had an awful experience here. Whilst the chef made us a beautifully presented meal. The front of house staff were terrible, no smile, no conversation. There were only 2 other diners in the restaurant so it’s not like he was busy. I emailed the owner (as I didn’t want to leave a bad review) who responded that he’d speak to his wife, then never came back to me. When we had just started to eat our meal, an off duty very loud employee shouted to her friend that her baby had been sick in the restroom. After she had shouted the word ‘sick’ twice, none of us could eat another mouthful of food. She then (along with her friend) burst out laughing when they realised that we weren’t happy. Totally ruined our rare night out. Told the waiter who just shrugged his shoulders. Customer service was none existent. Very disappointing experience and would not recommend spending your hard earned money here.

Was wondering what is going on? Me and my wife walked in at 17.45 not a soul in site phone ring out . Was starting to think the staff had been kidnapped. My wife went to look if anyone was in the back of the building. As was going to help my self to the bar. But finally a member of staff popped out and to answer the phone to say we are fully booked. Without a reservation on table. Under staffed or stress comes to mind...

The food was lovely , the young lady at the till was singing along to the background music. Everyone seamed happy and gave great service

Went there today waited nearly an hour despite there being only a dozen people in there. The staff were very unfriendly and not at all helpful . The table next to ours was running with water which was going on to the floor . Despite asking several times she ignored us we wiled the table ourselves in the end and a gentleman on another table told them the water was on the floor . We ordered soup which they said came with a hot cibbatta it was in fact a stone cold end of a French stick . Will never return again

While the food was nice, service was below par. Took quite a while before our orders were served. When i wanted to pay, there was noone around and we had to wait quite some time (10 minutes or so) before anyone returned to the establishment. We could have walked away without paying and be in the next town before they even realised, which we ofcoarse didn't do.

Seems like this place doesn't exist anymore!

Had a very delicious roast dinner here with my family on a trip from London. Lamb and beef cooked beautifully, great selection of vegetables and yummy gravy! Cocktails and draft larger/ale also stunning. Friendly welcoming staff. Great value for money. Highly recommend

I ordered a medium sirloin steak with dauphinois potatoes unfortunately my steak was over cooked and the dauphinois was swimming in oil/butter I asked the waiter if I could have the steak re cooked and the dauphinois replaced with chips he took my plate away then came back with the same plate and told me the chef said the steak is cooked correctly and that’s how dauphinois can be sometimes. This is not what I was expecting concerning I was paying £25 for my meal I have been a chef for 20 years so have experience in how to cook steaks and dauphinois potatoes This is not the type of service I would expect

Bad service! Went for a meal there with the mrs. Was moved table as was told new boy had started and shouldn't of sat us at the table we were sat on so we had to move to a table right in front of a speaker as a band was playing there so couldn't even talk to my partner. they forgot 1 of our starters. Wasnt even that bizzy. We cancelled main order as not happy by this point. Wont be going there again.

Staff were really friendly and accommodating of our large family. The food was excellent, the toilets were clean, and the value was exceptional. Starters and kids meals were served very quickly, the mains were a tiny bit slow but this is to be expected now during staff shortages.

Tucked away but an excellent meal. The staff were very helpful with me making mixed choices from the menu.

Been going to Block And Barrel and Block And Barrel Express Because they have Mac N' Cheese, And I was really excited the first time I saw it was on the menu. The 1st time I had it with The Bluestone Burger it was amazing, Really Cheesy and compact, then I had 2 Tubs of Mac N' Cheese on their own, Covered in Oil or grease, I don't know if its the Pasta or Cheese or someone's throwing too much oil in the mix, Please stop, it's disgusting. Not so long ago I had the Sheriff Burger with Bacon and stuff, Amazing. Yet again I went for the Mac N' Cheese with the Burger and it was just as worse or maybe even worse, so next time I make an order with Block And Barrel or Block And Barrel Express and I order The Mac N' Cheese, Please put as little oil into the Food or a small amount, I nearly threw up. Shocking service, tables left with dirty plates, non attentive Girl serving more interested in taking selfies and eating than taking care of the customers, turned away a table of 6 when it was half empty...WOW...very poor for an independent restaurant they need to up their game

Fabulous eatery in Haverfordwest. Lovely service, great food - we had veggie & regular burgers, all freshly made to order, and one of the best cappuccinos I've ever had. Amazingly clean and organised. A little gem in the centre of town.
