An excellent little proper pub with great real ales and a friendly welcome. Visiting from The Endeavour Chelmsford in Essex I popped in to say hi. It was a bank holiday weekend and they had beer festival and live folk band on. Beers were plentiful, 28 total plus 60 or so ciders, I tried 5 all of which were in very good form especially the Blackfriars Porter. Had a chat with the landlord and some of the bar staff, all friendly and knowledgeable. A well deserved Camra winner for Norfolk.

Blackfriars Tavern is one of the best traditional cask ale pubs in Great Yarmouth. It's located in the less-than-thrilling hinterland of town, close to the remains of its medieval wall. The pub is totally worth the walk from the seafront (or, alternatively, the station). There's at least ten(!) taps available at all times (a couple were out on my visit), and they're all beers from that area. A bunch of pub games are lying about, indicating a lively community pub. The interior is traditional too, appealing mostly to old punters. There's a small but convenient outside seating area to the back. I found the landlady to be most helpful and welcoming. Alas, I had only time for a single pint. Wholly recommended.

I reckon this is the best cask ale pub in Gt Yarmouth. Very welcoming. Very comfortable and relaxed. A great range of proper cask ales, has one brewed on site as well. Range of classic Beano and Dandy comics from the 80's - early 00's was a nice touch, along with games like Jenga available to play at each table. Had the home made steak and kidney pie with the hand cut triple cooked chips. Absolutely fantastic and well priced too. Time passed very quickly here, will be back soon hopefully.

Great service and a friendly landlord and landlady who know a lot about real ale and real cider. Fresh homemade and delightful pies are on offer as is a varied selection of Belgian beers and continental lagers - always a new one to try everyday. Come in a stranger, leave as a friend. Not wanting to drink anything alcoholic? This pub offers a wide of loose leaf tea from all different varieties of which you can take home and make up to fifty cups of. Coffee is available too with all traditional brews served. Darts, chess and other traditional pub games such as bar skittles are available for you and your friend to kill time with. In short this pub is definitely worth a long visit.

I really could spend all day here it’s really worth a visit! The owners are super friendly and know their beers very very well and are able to suggest based upon your preference. All areas are clean, tidy and well presented. Those who don’t want alcohol are very well catered for too with a selection of loose tea’s to chose from. Well behaved dogs are welcomed and treated with cuddles and free gravy bones! They sell food such as home made pies and (more than) triple cooked chips and sometimes provide nibbles during your visit. First time visit for me to this obviously newly refurbished backstreet Yarmouth pub. Much more modern inside than you would expect from the pleasantly old fashioned exterior. Lots of excellent quality real ales and ciders. The decor looks like somewhere that you would expect to pay over the odds for the drinks but the prices are very competitive and displayed clearly, which is a rarity these days. The friendly landlord offer tasters of the beers to help us make up our minds. There are outside drinking areas and games such as Jenga and Snakes and Ladders on the tables which was a nice touch. Stunning restaurant. Great food and service. Starter, main, rice, and bread: bill came to £22; reasonably priced. Large menu but the lady serving asked what kind of dish I wanted (which meat) and made some helpful recommendations, including the dishes they’re famous for A fried chicken starter. This was so hot and fresh and delicious. Only downside was I did not expect there to be some small bones so be careful. But a great choice. I tried a chicken curry based on recommendation. Delicious. Served with rice and signature fried bread. I asked for tap water and was given bottled water free of charge.
