Well run and well staffed. Relaxing canalside location. Henry's IPA was good, but if you're into real ale, the four pumps doubled up on 6X and Henry's, lacking choice, even in Wadworthshire 😊

Located on the edge of Devizes town next to the locks. On the edge of the canal where barges can berth to get drinks and food. Plenty of bench/tables along the canal for finning and drinking. Inside there are tables and chairs, bar area is large to cope with the numbers of guests. There are a good level of toilets and everything is clean and tidy throughout. Food menu has a good range of choice. Waiting times even on a busy Sunday were not to long. Food was good and with the roasts our group had there was a good range of veg, gravy and amounts too. Sauces, salt and pepper wad on the table. The team were attentive e, helpful, friendly and professional during our visit. Definitely will be returning for another meal.

Disappointed all round. There was an extremely drunk man in the bar who should long ago have been kicked out, but the staff just stood around whilst he made a nuisance of himself to all customers. My Sri Lankan curry promised so much but delivered so little. It was a bowl of runny curry sauce with a bland bit of grilled chicken thrown on top. The poppadom must have been a few days old because it was soft and bendy. Chips were nice though, as was the canal side location

We were lucky enough to find this dog friendly pub on our walk along the canal today when we were just beginning to want some lunch. Lovely setting right next to the canal. No problem with dogs and even provide dog treats. A selection of 3 ciders on draught which was nice. I had pork Sunday roast and it was delicious. Pork was still soft and moist, roasties were crunchy in the outside and soft in the middle, amazing Yorkshire pudding and crunch crackling. Veggies were a little soft for my liking but still good, great gravy. Followed up with a Baileys and White chocolate cheesecake which was a very generous slice. The little one has a kids cheese and bacon burger with chips, no veggies which was a shame. He followed it up with a chocolate brownie ice-cream sundae which was a very good size. The other half had halloumi burger which came topped with the best onion rings we've ever had. All in all, a very good lunch and would happily go back.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ My recent experience at the Black Horse Pub was nothing short of delightful! From the moment we stepped in, we were greeted with warm smiles and impeccable service from the staff. Francis, the mastermind behind the kitchen, truly wowed us with his culinary creations. Each dish was a work of art, bursting with flavor and showcasing his creativity. What truly sets this pub apart is its inviting atmosphere and charming beer garden. As we look forward to the summer months, I can't wait to bask in the sunshine and enjoy a refreshing drink in the beer garden. Despite advertising real ale it was all "off" when we visited. Very disappointing. What a shame the owner is a liar as well as bad at stock control. My wife and I were met by a lovely young lady who did explain that the draft ale was not ready and offered us bottled beer. Having looked at what was on offer. Only one ale we decided to leave. We never saw or spoke to the owner. Nor did we order anything at all. Before publicans slag off potential customers they need to check carefully which customer left the review

Disappointing! If there was a school report for this place I'd have to give it a B+, could do better. It's in the perfect place right beside the Kennet & Avon canal, but it seemed lacking somehow. The menu choice while acceptable for a carnivore/omnivore was a bit lacking for a vegetarian/vegan, plus while seated outside we had the dubious pleasure of sharing our lunch with a rat, or possibly even two. As a county person it didn't faze me, but a townie may not have had the same reaction - just putting it out there!! The staff were lovely, can't fault them, it's just the menu choices that let it down a little. If it's a pint by the canal you want, then I don't doubt they nail that, with perhaps some chips??

Can't comment on the food. Walked up the caen hill flight from the bottom to eat here today and arrived at 19:50. Google shows their kitchen closes at 20:00 and their sign outside shows that they serve food from 17:00 till 20:00. Apparently not as I was turned away and told the kitchen was closed. I appreciate it's close. But a burger and chips can be sorted at a half decent restaraunt in 10 minutes with relative ease. If your only open in the evening for three hours I'd imagine most places would be happy to serve someone turning up just before the closing time of the kitchen, not at this establishment. The staff were rude and unhelpful. They stated the kitchen was closed and would not be serving. When asked where else locally would be serving food they stated they don't know and that we'd have to walk to town. Although I'm only here for a day I will eventually make it back to Devizes. Rest assured I will not be stopping here. I walked to the Crown which was only 0.6 miles away in town. Made it there in the rain in 14 minutes. The Crown were more than happy to recieve my custom and even adjusted their menu to trouble up my burger. Feel free to swerve this disaster and head to The Crown. Edit: Ignore the fabricated response from the owner. There were three employees behind the bar when I approached and asked if it was too late to get a table. The blonde lady behind the bar looked at her watch and audibly hmmed before stating the kitchens were closed. Anyomr of them could have piped up if it was closed due to lack of produce and she'd have had no reason to glance her watch if the reason was not time related. The crown on the other hand still served us desert at 21:25. Take your custom there instead folks! The people are lovely.

Very strange. And all the other tables were taken.
