Black and Green in Bromsgrove

Second time we've been, this time with the in-laws and it didn't let us down. As someone who eats everything, I rarely have an issue with tasting menus. The snacks to begin were outstanding, and the venison, passion fruit & stilton courses really stood out. Very memorable. I will say that my girlfriend struggled a little bit with the mushroom course, but that was just personal taste. Lovely atmosphere, laid back and not formal, wine was perfect too. Will be back next year!

We had a fabulous lunch at B&G on Saturday , the food was absolutely superb . To watch the young chef Oliver work was something to witness . He was great to chat to throughout the meal, As he did with all diners . The whole experience at B&G we lovely . The atmosphere, all The staff made it a very enjoyable experience . Intimate place which we loved. Place is set up for around 16 diners and you are all served each course at the same time. Food is a tasting menu and each course is a delight. We loved the snack to start, can’t begin to explain what is was but it was stunning. Pasta course was as amazing and the bread it was served with was something else. All the food was delicious. Food and drink is sourced locally and all including the wines from the UK. Who knew we could make sure great Red wine! I was a bit sceptical (about the wine) but needn’t have worried it was superb. Lovely evening, the young Chef is a future star, service was 👌

We had a lovely experience on Saturday evening. A very creative menu and relaxing atmosphere. The whole experience was enhanced by the enthusiasm and knowledge of the young Chef who was professional and capable beyond his years. Can’t I give 6 stars. Every part of the meal was exceptional. I’ve never left a sample menu feeling either peckish or bloated. This is a thoughtful menu that balances everything so well. I wasn’t left wanting and the English Simpsons Rabbit Hole wine washed it all down very well. The chef is a maverick along with the sommelier. Recommend

Great food! An explosion of tastes and textures. Sommelier was very knowledgeable and chose our wines for us as we had opted out of the wine taster option! So thank you, Lydia, for your help! Oliver the chef was superb! Good excellent and he explained everything about the food with such enthusiasm and patience as we asked several questions, several times!! Brilliant 8 course taster menu.

What an incredible place! I don't want to share any pictures because it will ruin the experience but that was the best food I've ever eaten and our server and chef were lovely. So amazing to have people so passionate about the food they serve. Wish I could give more stars. Just sublime.

!!!NOT A DECENT BUSINESS!!! It's easy to praise a business when things go well. You only know if a business is decent or not and if a service is good or not when things go wrong, and unfortunately, sometimes things don’t go to plan - this happens to everyone. Our experience with Black & Green says that they are the sort of business that will just say “it’s nothing to do with us” when things go wrong instead of accommodating them, even for returning customers. ALL THEY DO IS BLAME CUSTOMERS and won’t take feedback/complaints or address customers’ concerns. They show no understanding and have absolutely no flexibility. I will not go there again, will not support the restaurants and bars owned by this owner, and will discourage others from doing so. They may have won our money once, but their poor service will cost them more in the long run. !!!AVOID!!! TERRIBLE experience with Black & Green on 4th July 2024 using a pre-paid voucher. 1) poor means of contact as their telephone line closes before reservation time, setting customers up for failure 2) poor waitress service where customers had to ask a simple question 3 times before getting an answer 3) imposing compulsory service charge even when customers clearly show dissatisfaction 4) trying to steal customers’ money by not refunding the balance, and even after I called them on 14th July 2024, they still only give me LESS than what they should have refunded me 5) poor ability to handle contingencies 6) poor attitude towards customer feedback and complaints. !!!BEWARE!!! Dinner reservations here are for 19:30, but their telephone line closes at 19:00, so if for any reason, you are running late or need to get in touch with them, you won’t get hold of them. This leaves you with only two options - either turn up late or be a no-show! Due to our baby not settling to sleep and not being able to contact them, we were 35 mins late. On arrival, we received no explanation and were not served all dishes. Had to ask about our missing dishes THREE times before we got an answer. They didn’t attempt to do anything (i.e. swap dishes or complimentary drinks or anything), and all we felt was being ignored and avoided being talked to. Despite paying a £40 deposit and a pre-paid voucher, they insisted on a 12.5% service charge, even when we were totally dissatisfied. They could not give me a receipt and said we would get the remaining balance (£5.xx) back within 48 hours. Asked to speak to the manager but there was no one available. We said we would come back the next day to speak to the manager, as it was already 10pm and we didn’t want to hang around because our baby was at home sleeping and we didn’t want our babysitters to stay late for no reason. Went in the next day trying to speak to the manager/owner but was told “There is no point as it won’t change the result”. We insisted and were given a phone to speak with the owner. Despite our efforts to escalate the issue, the owner and the team appear complacent. They blamed the voucher company and showed no interest in resolving our concerns. The owner never followed up. Additionally, we received no refund after over a week and had to call them. They blamed the process but it’s clearly a lie as I received a “LESS than what I was owed” refund AS SOON AS I hung up. Their service was so AWFUL and unacceptable from start to finish!

We chose this restaurant by the reviews for my Birthday celebration, of 4 people. The restaurant is very small and incredibly dark, it was also very hot. We were seated by the door, the tables are bench like with high stools, we sat on a fitted wall seat which was too low for the table and had a small wooden stool for our feet which was uncomfortable and lower than the people sat on the stools. Also it was incredibly dark you could say ambience or maybe to hide the cheap tables. So the Birthday Girl is a non- drinker and the only offer is coke or lemonade. My husband left the restaurant and found a good quality off licence in the run of shops. He purchased a nonalcoholic wine and salcombe Nil berry gin. The restaurant supplied the tonic and ice but hadn’t even got a slice of lemon, it was a stretch too far for someone to fetch a lemon as well. Everyone else enjoyed the very overpriced screw cap wine. The food we enjoyed, it was presented well what we could see in the dark. It was flavoursome and we enjoyed all courses.The experience as a whole was lacking sophistication and it didn’t feel like a fine dining experience we’ve had elsewhere. We did not feel it was money well spent and could of had a better experience elsewhere. Also one unisex toilet at the back passed the store area all a bit scruffy, we wont be back ir recommending.

We had a thoroughly good time from start to finish. The atmosphere, deco, lighting was appropriate. We enjoyed every course of the tasting menu; even loved what they did with Ingredients we wouldn’t normally order. Will definitely be back and are looking forward to trying the other Andrew Sheridan restaurants too.

The food here was absolutely amazing. Incredible dishes, very flavourful. Attentive staff. Where the place looses stars is on the fact that it was extremely uncomfortable to dine in here. It’s not a particularly hot day, but the room was absolutely boiling. There is no aircon, no windows, doors are shut and the restaurant is very small and intimate but when you add in enough people and an open kitchen it is not a pleasant experience, super hot and stuffy. I’m also not a fan of the very dark aesthetics with low dim light, but that is just a personal preference rather than a fault of the restaurant. It’s a shame because otherwise they are serving incredible food. I would recommend to others who want a nice meal but with the caveat that you need to dress accordingly.

The food was divine, lots of interesting flavours. The staff are friendly and knowledgable. The lighting is kept very dark and the seating area is very warm as the kitchen is also there, so don't bother bringing a jacket and dress light. We went for a tasting menu, and the portions definitely reflected that, but with such high quality food it was worth every penny!

Absolutely incredible food, amazing service and really friendly team. We are big foodies and could not fault a thing on this menu, quite the opposite it was all top draw. Even the bits I wouldn't usually go for were super delicious. Bravo chef. Michelin star coming your way I think. The atmosphere and ambience enhanced the whole experience. I just want to amend a post I didn’t realise was sent yesterday where I only rated it one star which was obviously a mistake on my behalf as my experience was extremely good it was our first time trying a tasting menu and we were pleasantly surprised the food service and ambiance at the restaurant was excellent we just had 1 minor complaint which they had no ice to go with a gin an tonic I ordered but like I say a minor complaint which I’m sure will be resolved soon as was told the ice machine was out of order

Went for Saturday evening 6 course taster meal . Had been given voucher so reason for going. Would not go back as feel for what we paid did not get value for money. Portions small, we have done a taster menu before elsewhere and found portion sizes better. Food was tasty and explained well when delivered. Waiter Josh was attentive .

Unfortunately didn’t enjoy our experience overall. Couldn’t fault the taste of the food at all. Very talented chef. Good free parking outside on the street. Love the moody dark lighting inside. But… We left hungry :( Looking at the prices of the menu it wasn’t good value for money. And we weren’t willing to pay more for the 8 courses. The service let the place down. We arrived early thinking there was a lounge to have drinks, maybe I read that wrong. We were seated at our table which is absolutely fine and a snack was bought out relatively quick. But then, even though we were the first in the restaurant we were one of the last to be served the rest of our food. By the time the first course came out, it had been 45 minutes since our snack and I was watching everyone else getting served before us. I don’t know why. Seemed like everyone was getting better service than us. We finished our food, paid the bill and service charge as we like to support small independents. We left very quick as we were really miffed and just wanted to get out of there. We traveled over an hour to be there. If the service was better and maybe an extra snack was included I think it would be up there. Dinners out like this are suppose to be a treat, and it didn’t feel like that for us unfortunately.

Dont call your customers liars! I've just read the reply to my review a year ago and apparently it was fabricated. So let me tell you what happened in detail. In fact.. I still have my first review saved on my notes... here you go! Good... bad... awful So to fill you guys in... we went for the first time in October, after a couple of glasses of wine we booked another table to bring my elderly parents. Didnt read the terms and conditions. MY FAULT like I said in the last review.. I don't need to be berated again! Paid the £80 deposit. Had to cancel the table as my parents well being is more important than a restaurant. Cant cancel tables (go to any fine dining restaurant and you can cancel if given advance notice which i did, over a month infact) Gave a 4* review which by any means is not a bad review. Pointed out the quarms i had i.e dishes are repetitive with the same flavours. To which I got a condescending reply because im guessing I didnt blow smoke up their behinds. Telling me how the "Moral" thing would be not to cancel tables. However I think the moral thing in a cost of living crisis would be to have better terms and conditions. Any how I noticed the rebooked table hadn't been changed from a 4 to a table of 2. Emailed them to make sure they're aware, also told them that I deleted my review as it was taken badly and not how I intended which would do damage to the business, I also told them how I wasn't looking forward to coming. Do you know what they emailed back. Nothing. No customer service to put my mind at ease as im forced to return to a restaurant im paying out the nose for! So for 3 MONTHS I had anxiety about returning and a father going through chemo! When I did return the atmosphere was non existent and Unfortunately I did indeed have THE WORST food poisoning I've ever had and apparently according to them, a lie as apparently the dish i ate didnt exist lol take constructive criticism! You sound like over privileged children that will just deny or argue with any criticism given. After going to your restaurant twice, paying £100s of pounds. Even having an email from the director of the company to ask formore details (I declined his call as I was still vomiting) my review is fabricated! I'm autistic and I can assure you nothing is fabricated! Grow up!

Feedback received 5 stars absolutely amazing We had an amazing experience for my friends 50th birthday and were seated at the chefs table, the venue was beautifully designed, mood lighting and perfect choice of music. The food... wow 👌🏻 mouthful after mouthful of delicious flavours leaving you wanting more. The chef and front of house person were welcoming, chatty and informative to each dish that was served. I have been to most Michelin star restaurants in the west midlands and can honestly say this restaurant was the best by far and definitely deserve the Michelin star of approval. What an experience! I visited with my husband and sister and we were lucky enough to be seated at the chef’s table. Sean was so friendly and knowledgeable but also took the time to get to know a bit about us too, even offering my sister some foraging tips! The restaurant is only small, so everything is served to all table at the same time. It was aesthetically pleasing, watching Sean meticulously plate each course. The food was incredible. Usually at tasting menus there’s one course that we don’t enjoy as much as the others, but everything at Black & Green was amazing. Personal favourites were the goat’s cheese snack, cheese course and the Thai green cod. The dessert was also tasty and a great finish to the evening. We also had the wine pairing which was great and a nice added bonus that all the wines were produced at UK vineyards. We had a fab time and have already recommended to friends. Thanks to all the staff!

We are a couple that appreciate top end dining and good food, but only fork out on special occasions like tonight. Previously, Michelin Star * included, we have felt out of place and uncomfortable. Tonight, chef Sean along with Lydia and Lily blew our stereotype expectations away. The food & service was simplicity at it's finest, the exact way it's traditionally taught. I could say a lot about the tasting notes of the extravagant 7 course menu we sampled tonight, but I'm not going to; do it yourself. Black & Green are well on their way to the Michelin madness, experience it now in the natural, raw and real state it's in. Before ego, relevance and status takes it's course. A rare & intimate find that won't last long. ***** stars.

Brummie brilliance, chef Sean Parkes and his team delivered a fabulous tasting menu on a cold night in Barnt Green. My wife and I agreed the cod skin amuse-bouche was amazing and the following courses of mushroom, cod, pork, passion fruit and blood orange did not disappoint. The wine pairings provided Uk wines that fully complimented the food with a detailed and informative description of each. Service was attentive and efficient. Could not fault the food or service only negative was not being able to finish with a coffee before going back out into the cold.

My Dad and I came on Friday, the experience, food and attentiveness from staff was exceptional. So much so, my brother bought my Dad a voucher to visit again. The chef was brilliant, i would go as far to say as it was the best tasting menu i have had to date.

This was bought for me and my wife as a joint present and it did not disappoint. Cute little cosy restaurant, the staff were lovely. It felt very personal, it was lovely. If we were closer, we would 100% be returning. Also, they have English wines only as they are trying to change the opinion of English wines, I was slightly sceptical when I ordered an English red wine, but I must admit, it was beautiful, so nice I went back for a second glass!!!

We have visited another AS restaurant and throughly enjoyed it so thought we would give this intimate venue a go. It is absolutely brilliant, the food is amazing like really amazing ! This was a birthday treat for me, and it was definitely that! We were sat at the chefs table, it was a great spot in this small intimate restaurant. Each food course was amazing! We also chose the wine pairing which was perfectly matched to the food. Some great personal wine recommendations from Lydia that convinced us to add to the pairing! Service levels and friendliness of Sean and Lydia throughout the night topped this visit off perfectly. On a very cold icy night when I wasn’t convinced I wanted to trek far from home and definitely not nearly an hour across the cross city line-I’m so glad I did. A perfect setting to spend a cold winters evening. Thanks for a great night-we’ll definitely be back.

We then had to catch up a course with the wines which rather undermined the notion of wine pairing. The focus at the restaurant is on English wines, which meant all but one were white or rose. Our taste is rather more towards full-bodied red wines so next time we will buy our wine separately. It was a splendid evening so we highly recommend the restaurant for the wonderful food!

Went to B&G for my wife's Birthday, and we had the 8 course tasing and drinks pairing. Food, Drink & Ambience were outstanding. We sat at the Chefs Bench, and the head chef Sam Smith was extremely friendly and talked us through every dish. All of the staff were very knowledgeable about all dishes and wine pairing, well done to all of the team. I would highly recommend and plan on coming back soon!

This was our first experience of fine dining. The food was excellent and the staff really attentive. When each course was served, they gave details of all the ingredients and answered any questions we had. Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Would certainly recommend going along.

We had a fantastic 8 course taster menu here this week. The creative combination of flavours was superb. The unexpected cheese course was a delightful end to a wonderful meal. The service was great too. Thoroughly recommend a visit here soon!

Had the 8 course tasting menu with pairing wine. Unbelievable! Best meal ever. Lighting, music, temperature, food, wine, service, and knowledgeable staff with UK produce to boot! Couldn’t decide which course was best and not knowing what we were going to get was genuinely exciting. Face is still aching from grinning all night.

Food was amazing and the chef was very engaging and easy going. Service was ok. The paperless menu is a great idea but unfortunately did not work for us on both devices. Overhead comments like I'll give people the bill so they will leave whilst plates are still on the table. Along with extra charges on the bill that I unfortunately had to challenge as payment was made before the meal.

Really lovely service, we felt well looked after. The food was amazing, we'll definitely be returning to order off the regular menu. We also loved the fact the atmosphere was more casual instead of stuffy like other higher-end restaurants can be.

Thoroughly enjoyed our recent visit to Black and Green. All the staff were friendly, enthusiastic and knowlegeable about their menu. We tried the half flight wine with our taster menu as we've not done this before which we felt added to our experience. It was small but the ambience was just right.

Lovely, small restaurant in the heart of Barnt Green. Tables are well spaced with good lighting, and a nice atmosphere. Food is beautifully presented and clearly explained. Excellent value for money for a superb tasting menu.

We were speechless. Me and my partner are big foodies but have never done anything like this before. I can easily recommend it and it’s an experience you won’t forget. The restaurant changes their menu regularly so it’s best to just go in blind and enjoy the surprise (not recommended for picky eaters or people with many allergies). To put it simply, I never thought I would enjoy eating tomatoes so much, and that wasn’t even the best dish. Last but not least, the staff were super friendly, explaining every dish and having a friendly chat with you. There is an optional service charge or 12.5% and in our case they definitely deserved it. Also we were a bit worried going into it thinking we would leave a bit hungry but, we were honestly very satisfied come the end of the night. If I had to nitpick, there was only one cider option and they were unfortunately out of stock. But that is me being awkward and didn’t take anything away.

Delicious food in an intimate restaurant. All the flavours and dishes were fantastic. Highlights were the fish, pork, and dessert. The chef was brilliant at doing everything himself without a sous chef. Atmosphere marked lower due to music going off quite a lot (makes a difference in a small venue)
