As usual, excellent food from Simon and wonderful service from Anita.

Once again, a memorable night out!!!! Food was amazing, the Seafood chowder starter was truly incredible!!!!! Should do it as a main course too, it’s that good. Fillet steak to follow…..cooked perfectly, cheeseboard to finish, copious beers and wine……what a feast from the best restaurant for miles and miles……the 2-hour round trip is ALWAYS worth it…….

Delicious food in a friendly place

We went for a lunch over Easter with my Parents and Husband. The food was spectacular and the restaurant had a lovely relaxed atmosphere with friendly prompt service. Food wise we had scallops and duck to start, with lamb, steak and monkfish for mains, with Panna Cotta and chocolate dome for dessert. All dishes were fantastic, delicious and well presented. Would highly recommend and can’t wait to come back!

We came here on a Saturday night for a catch up with some friends. We had a fabulous time. Great quality food, served with care and attention.

We eventually managed to get a table! A very impressive well-cooked lunch from their set lunch menu. Exceptional food that was seasoned precisely - mushroom & tarragon soup, large sea bass fillet and individual apple crumble tart filled me nicely. A very good choice of wine. This is an exceptional find. Incredibly friendly plus a really interesting menu which is perfectly executed. I can’t recommend it highly enough - if you like absolute classic dishes then this is the one for you too. Seafood chowder; fillet steak Diane, superb fish too. Definitely be back again very soon.

The lunchtime menu is spectacularly good value. If you are not from Woodbridge it is well worth making the trip there just to visit Bistro 47a, if you are from Woodbridge, you are lucky to have this restaurant on your door step. The food is always excellent, and the service is warm and friendly. I will keep coming back.

At last, a great restaurant in the Woodbridge area with a wide menu, excellent food and service. The food was delicious, the sauces very well flavoured. The set menu in particular represented very good value.

Amazing food, atmosphere and service. This is just what Woodbridge needs. Our meal was 5 star from the start, the scallops were devine, the fish cakes were adorable and the turine was yummy. Our main courses of salmon, sea bass, liver and beef just sealed the deal. We are hooked and will definitely return when in Woodbridge. Today my wife, father and I went for a glorious meal at Bistro@47a in Woodbridge. On entering from the Thoroughfare, we were given a very warm welcome by Anita Edwards and shown to our reservation. Simon greeted us as we walked past his small but amazingly functional kitchen and he explained that his wife was in charge of the seating so he would just get back in the kitchen. The restaurant was busy but not crowded and had a relaxed and jovial atmosphere. Initially, I was delighted to see that we were offered a pre-starter which was great news. My agricultural appetite was completely satisfied with three delicious courses of beautiful black pudding and pork starter, stupendous steak main with expertly cooked fresh local vegetables and a champion cheese board with assorted biscuits to finish a fantastic meal. My wife relished a white fish dish of some description (the name of which escapes me) and dad enjoyed a hearty roast bird, cooked to perfection. We were all very impressed that all of our meals arrived at the same time, piping hot and impeccably presented and the three of us left feeling very satisfied and happy that there is such a good venue in our hometown. Our next guests will proudly be taken to Bistro@47a for a treat.

Had been looking forward to a French bistro style lunch. Food was fairly good but more gastro pub than bistro ! Worst aspect of an open kitchen is that cooking fumes wafted over us. Probably best to sit in the pretty conservatory at the back furthest away from the kitchen. I had worn smart clothes for our lunch out and was upset that when I got home my hair and clothes smelled strongly of fried steak. I had a shower and put all my clothes in the washer. They need to invest in an extractor fan! Nonetheless it’s a welcome addition to the food offerings in Woodbridge and already seems very popular.

Once again after several visits in the past travelling from Colchester to meet up with friend from Eye in Suffolk. My wife and I enjoyed a thoroughly enjoyable evening on the 18th November. As usual the food was outstanding and the service was equally as impressive. This family run restaurant business always excels in everything they do. Despite the fact that during our visit a party of 9 never bothered to turn up (outrageous!!) Anita keep a very positive outlook. My friends and I always enjoy our visits to this totally unique gem of a bistro and we look forward to once again returning in the early New Year. My wife Margaret & I would definitely recommend this delightful restaurant to anyone who appreciates a very high standard of cuisine and service

Another truly amazing meal!!!!! Seafood casserole to start, was bigger than some main courses elsewhere!!!! Taste was amazing!!!!! Beef stroganoff to follow, tons of succulent beef, mushrooms, pickles, onions all on a bed of steaming hot rice!!!!!! UNBELIEVABLE!!!! Finished with the usual cheeseboard, as usual perfect. Not a crumb or morsel left on any of the plates!!!!!! My wife had the Fishcake to start……amazing, as I had a taste!!!!! Followed by the salmon en croute……2 large pieces of salmon cooked to perfection with prawns…..all washed down with copious amounts of beer and wine!!!! A TRULY GASTRONOMIC EXPERIENCE EVERY TIME!!!!!!! Nothing else comes close

Second visit to this Bistro, while visiting friends. Exceptional experience, Warm welcome from owners, good atmosphere and despite being snug is very personal. Took my wife down for a meal tonight, we had read lots of very good reviews so wanted to check it out ourselves. And I must say the reviews were not wrong, we both had lovely mains mine was the calf’s Liver (the gravy was amazing) and my wife had the Pork medallions both very nice👌 for dessert we both went for the treacle tart (warm) again very nice. Cute Bistro. Able to help us with our dairy free requirements. They split the starters onto 2 plates for us as we were sharing it which was a lovely touch. The liver and bacon main was lovely and fresh quality. Monkfish main was big and meaty but over spiced for my liking. Great service!

Wow! What a gem tucked away in the Thoroughfare in Woodbridge. I enjoyed a 3 course lunch meal with my niece for only £20 each. The food was beautifully presented, cooked to perfection and very tasty. Very friendly and attentive service in a relaxing environment. Only open Thursday to Saturday lunchtime and evening. Booking is highly recommended as seating is limited. This was my second visit and definitely not my last!

We’ve now enjoyed three excellent meals at Bistro@47a. The restaurant only has seven tables and is run by a lovely couple with the husband cooking in the tiny kitchen and his wife looking after service. The food is not only exquisite but very well-priced, and there’s always plenty to choose from on the menu. I enjoyed the bouillabaisse on our most recent visit, which was probably the best dish I’ve had at the restaurant to date. We were glad to hear it’s renewed its lease for another year and look forward to another visit soon.

Our first experience here will not be our last we very much hope. The ambience is welcoming and warm. The food is absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. We shared a starter of scallops followed by a monkfish main and calves liver and bacon main. Panna cotta and creme brule finished the meal and we could not fault it. We met a couple who had come from Essex because they missed the food that Simon used to serve there. Essex's loss is our gain I think. Thank you Simon and Anita for a lovely dining experience. A real treat.

The simple and sad truth is that family run bistros and trattorias, once so prolific in our city centres and suburbs have been in steep decline for years, pushed out of a property market by conglomerate behemoth chains with their insipid menus and airport-lounge decor....

I'm lucky enough to have eaten at some highly rated restaurants, due to my son being a very good Head Chef, and therefore I feel I can recognise good food when I experience it. Bistro@47A is superb. It's situated right in the centre of Woodbridge, in the Thorofare. It is an unassuming little place and has a lovely atmosphere. Feels like a little French Restaurant I once visited in the Pyrenees. We were greeted by the Chef's wife and she is a wonderful host. The food produced from the tiny kitchen by a clearly talented and experienced Chef, needs to be tasted. The menu was super tempting on so many fronts and I opted for the scallop starter. It was delicious. My wife had goats cheese and our friend had a very generous starter of black pudding and pork terrine (enough for us all to try, and it was superb) Mains were fantastic. Our friend had a succulent rack of lamb, with a gorgeous minty gravy. I had Monkfish in a lime and chilli sauce, cooked to perfection, and my wife raved about her steak, so much so that none was shared😁 A classic creme brulee for dessert finished a really special meal. This is really well worth a visit. Woodbridge is very lucky to have this little gem, and in the famous words of Arnold..... I'll be back. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
