Big Maya's Jerk in Scarborough

I had a booking for the 21st June but when we arrived the place was locked! We traveled 20 miles for nothing. What a let down.

Maya hosted a party of us - all learning French and Spanish, or our partners. She cooked, especially for us, dishes from the French and Spanish Carribbean. Everything was wonderful (I can't speak for the dumplings, as they contained gluten - but those who could eat them said they, too were wonderful). I would recommed Big Maya's Jerk to those who are Coeliac.

We had dinner here this evening and had a great experience The service was excellent and the food was delicious! Will definitely return.

Maya is such a diamond, she done the catering for my wedding, and everything was amazing! The food was awesome and everyone at the wedding was coming to me saying how excellent the food was. I would definitely recommeng!!

Had a lovely time here! What a great find, was welcomed at the door by Maya who was so friendly! Food was delicious, the best plantain I’ve ever eaten! We will defo return when we are next in Scarborough! Oh we didn’t know that you had to take your own drink so remember to take it with you guys!!

Walking into Maya’s restaurant is like being invited into her home. The greeting is warm and personal, you immediately feel comfortable, Maya loves people and loves to chat as well as cook - and Maya certainly knows how to cook! Such tasty food, right here in Scarborough, aren’t we the lucky ones.

OMG......decided to order a collection. Food was INCREDIBLE, lovely, fresh and tasty, well presented. Maya was so so welcoming and thoughtful. Lovely place, lovely food, will be back regularly!!!! What a place. Went past a few nights ago and the place had a real carribean party vibe! Just what Scarborough needs, something different!!! WILL BE BACK FOR SURE!!!!!

Great food and atmosphere. Maya is an inspiration, the journey of her opening her restaurant is amazing. She went out of her way to ensure we had a lovely evening, including recommendations for places to drink afterwards. I will definately be visiting again

What a s**t show. The owner has blocked me on Facebook since reviewing the food on the website, and has then accused me alongside others of lying about the reviews (maybe take a look at your portion sizes?). For the best part of a £60 order for 2 people, you'd at least expect to be full up after ordering a takeaway but that wasn't the case whatsoever, I ended up having to cook some more food afterwards because the one piece of chicken and measly portion of chips wouldn't even fill my dog up. Will stick to Turtle Bay in the future, this is down at the bottom of the restaurant chain along with Ako Kebab, Deals etc 🤣 Thank you for your apology by the way (not) clearly you're a person who doesn't care about customer service, just remember Maya, it's extremely easy to learn customers but very hard to gain them, especially when word travels in small towns...

Big Maya's Jerk is one of the best restaurants in Scarborough! The food is amazing and the staff is incredibly friendly.

Maya is very welcoming and friendly. As a solo Chef/Owner, her passion comes through in her delicious food. The peppered prawns were delicious; the goat curry, plantain and jaloff rice were spicy and tasty. Thoroughly enjoyed it all. A lovely friendly atmosphere. Only negative is that the room was cold but the meal soon warmed you through.

My friend and I went for a casual dinner. The owner, Maya was a delight. Very friendly, she couldn’t do enough to make sure we were happy with the food. The food was delicious, she understood how I needed gluten free. Local business with an owner with a big heart. I would recommend and will be going back.

Beautiful spot, friendly and homely ambience. Lovely mix of Afro- Caribbean Delicacies. I would definitely recommend.

never had food that was spicy yet so enjoyable at the same time! the jerk chicken was tender, juicy and so tasty. normally im not a fan of chicken on the bone but this was irresistible. the jerk fries were unbeatable as well. top tier flavours here i recommend you try before they close!! 10/10 :)

Great authentic food on Scarborough. It is so nice to have independent restaurants to go to, where food is cooked with love. Try the curried goat and Rum cake

The food from Big Maya's Jerk was excellent! We ordered mac & cheese, goat curry, fried plantain and fried dumplings. All the items were sensational and cooked to perfection. The atmosphere of the place added to the experience, and meeting Maya was such a pleasure. Thank you for such a phenomenal culinary experience.

Lovely, tasty food, very friendly, chatty staff, made to feel so welcome & appreciated. Dumplings starter was fab with spicy sauce to dip. I had veggie/vegan skewers, family had salmon or jerk chicken, all declared delish. Remember to take uour own booze!

The welcome is lovely, the food is amazing, we will be back. The atmosphere at Big Maya's is great, the food is fresh and tasty, just what is needed for this town.

Wow food was amazing and will defo be back.great atmosphere in the restaurant as well.had coconut and sweet potato soup for starter.this was so tasty and had me salivating for my main course of goat curry.jolof rice.jerk chips and plantain.a great little kick to the food and not to spicy just perfect.lorraine had the jerk salmon which she said was absolutely delicious as well.finished of with the rum cake which was to die for.please stay in Scarborough.going for the jerk chicken next time yum yum

A great place for take away and or a sit in, casual dining experience. The food was beautiful! We had jerk chicken, oxtail stew, plantain, jerk fries and mac n cheese. 👌🏻 The seasoning on the chicken and the additional sauce were so tasty! Also, mac and cheese can always be hit and miss but Maya’s was perfectly cheesy 🤤 and the jerk sauce on the chips, delicious! We had take away and the food was ready quickly. We stopped to chat to everyone before we left and everyone seemed really lovely. We’ll try sitting in next time! The art work on the walls is really cool and they’re also dog friendly, which for us is a bonus! I really hope you guys decide to stay permanently in Scarborough!

Excellent new Caribbean restaurant close to the town centre. Lovely warm atmosphere and delicious food. Mac and cheese was great, as was the jerk salmon. All freshly cooked and full of flavour. Staff and owner were very welcoming and would highly recommend.
