Bier & Beer in Middlesbrough

I feel like I should share my short experience here which was odd. My Brother, Boyfriend and I had an hour and half in Middlesbrough before our train. We searched high rated real ale places close to the station and this one came highly reviewed and recommended. Both their own website and Google said they opened at 4pm (please see attached screenshot of their website) on a Saturday and since it was 5.30 pm we thought all was good. When we arrived the glass door had a big crack running across it plus large contact area. The door was open and unlocked now sign to say it was closed for any reason. The place was empty, the floor was sticky and the twentysomething staff were frantically cleaning. They all acted guilty on edge like they had been caught out which was very strange. They said they were closed and not open for another 45 minutes! Which would make it 6.15pm 2 hours and 15 minutes after the advertised opening. Now, if there had been an incident or an accident an exploded or burst keg perhaps? Completely understandable accidents happen or things outside of the staffs control do occur which is completely normal. We felt very uncomfortable, unwanted and unwelcome. We also got the feeling we were being lied to. What taproom or even ordinary pub or bar opens that late on a Saturday night, plus the cleaning should have been done before. Something very off about the situation. Nothing on website to say different open times, no sign up at the door. If the bar wasn't open why was the door unlocked and staff acting guilty. Maybe if we were locals it would have been different. Would not recommend.

I recently had a truly disappointing experience at Bier and Beer in Middlesbrough. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere felt unwelcoming. Despite being a paying customer, I was thrown out on the whim of the owner without any reasonable explanation. This arbitrary and unfair treatment is completely unacceptable. To make matters worse, the beer was flat and tasteless, far from what one would expect at a place that supposedly specializes in its selection. Bier and Beer is an embarrassment to Middlesbrough's pub scene, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking for a decent drink or a friendly environment. Save your money and find somewhere that appreciates its patrons and serves quality beverages.

Good selection of beers. Few options to grab a bite, at least when I was there.

Great staff and good selection of drinks. Music was good and not so loud that you couldn't have a conversation.

Far prefer to pay an extra quid or so for a decent pint in a place with no idiots.

They have things in the women's toilets that is amazing if you're ever caught short even had hair spray in there service was fantastic too

A good place for German beers specifically, limited if you like other craft beers. Seemed a bit dark and basic.

Great small bar with plenty of options for beer drinkers. Also has lots of cocktails and spirits.

Tidy bar with plenty of seats and tables. Have only experienced it on match days but decent enough place for a pint on the way to the match. Decent music and a volume that still allows you to have a conversation.
