Evening meal menu a little limited but the breakfast was plentiful and cooked to order. Some of the staff could have been a little more friendly

A restaurant trying badly to be far more than it is. Service was very slow and staff didn’t appear to be well trained or be interested in giving good service. More interested in chatting to each other at the bar area. Food was average at best and when I ordered the burger I wasn’t told I had to order everything else with it so when it arrived it was just a small over cooked burger in the middle of a big plate, no salad, no fries, nothing. When I asked I was then informed I had to order and then my burger was left to go cold while fries were cooked. Ordering English mustard should be avoided as this seems to cause confusion amongst staff resulting in mayonnaise first followed later by the biggest bowl of mustard I’ve ever seen. £42 for a burger n fries, a gin and a desert. Will not return and not recommended.

We had lunch with friends here and it was up to the usual standard one expects from Hand Picked hotels in general and Woodlands Park in particular.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

Where do I begin? There are two restaurants in the Woodlands Park Hotel. The Oak Room and Benson's. They both operate from the one kitchen yet both offer different menus and both are expensive. The Oak Room is pretty marginally more expensive and substantially less atmospheric than Benson's (the latter of the two seems to have a lot more soul and not seem so stuffy and quiet that you could hear a pin drop). So we went to Benson's. The two starters we had were tasty - a selection of bread, and brushed tomatoes. We got the house white wine, very nice and went down well. The mains were very disappointing - while the chicken in the Pan Roast Corn Fed Chicken Breast was nice, there was very little veg and potato had to be ordered as a side! The desserts were the biggest con though - we got Eton Mess, and Raspberry Shortbread. If you are a fan of cream than you were in luck because these were doused in them. Eton Mess had three small droplets of meringue lost in a swamp of cream, while the shortbread was a glorified jammy dodger with cream and some raspberries sandwiched in between, and so the jammy dodger doesn't look pathetic on its own some clotted cream is added to the plate. The saving grace was the front staff on the night. They were very hospitable and charming. I'd be reviewing the menu though if I were the chef! We had breakfast in here the next morning as we had stayed in the hotel overnight. The full breakfast was fine but the service the next morning was a bit slow with the morning staff nearly running over each other. It took ages for toast to be brought to our table. Actually I had finished the main breakfast by the time the toast came. The Oak Room operates from the same kitchen and overall my advice would be, if you are staying in the hotel, avoid the hotel restaurants.

While the food was edible and in some instances well prepared there were so many negatives that I couldn't in all fairness leave a positive review. Our waiter had never seen the menu before and every order had to be copied from our menu as we pointed at them for him. While we are on the menus... you don't expect a £30/head Sunday lunch menu to be printed on a plain piece of A4 paper. Anyhow, after a significant wait and having been offered a selection of breads, which again the waiter didn't seem to have ever seen before. we pointed to our selections. About ten minutes later we we forced to ask a different staff member for butter to go with aforementioned bread. We received our three starters, the terrine, smoked salmon and torched mackerel. While there was nothing intrinsically wrong with anything the salmon would have benefited from any sort of carbohydrate rather than just being strips laid flat on the plate with capers scattered over and the carrot (spaghetti) salad under the Mackerel was sharp and over-dressed. Another half hour delay ensued and our roast mains arrived. This was probably the highlight of the meal, beef was an excellent cut cooked well and the chicken was moist. Plates being terrifyingly hot would have suggested they had been under the lamps for quite some time as evidenced by the carrots which had started to dry out in the intense heat. This course the only things we had to request were sauces and knives and forks. We wavered on ordering dessert, but reasoned that the extra £7 to take it from 2 to 3 courses might be a clue to just how delightful the desserts were. We were somewhat disappointed. The chocolate fondant was in itself quite pleasant and the cheeses pungent and well presented, the half hour wait was baffling. It had taken so long that our third diner had ordered, received and finished her coffee before the cheese arrived. Having asked for cutlery again we were furnished with a knife and fork for eating the chocolate fondant and ice cream... I would have imagined a spoon would have been somewhat more beneficial and my spare fork which arrived with my cheese wouldn't have helped either. All told, a Sunday lunch for three of us shoudn't have taken three hours, we shouldn't have had to ask for cutlery (twice), sauces and butter, also, please resolve your card machine issues, if it's portable, make sure it can communicate with the base station. Had it been busy, some of this may have been excusable, however it was us, and one other table in the whole restaurant.

This hotel makes Fawlty Towers look good! I went for dinner on 5th August at the Bensons Brasserie with my fiancé and our parents. It was supposed to be a special occasion and a get together before our wedding (thank goodness we are not getting married at this hotel!). The experience went from bad to worse. There were six of us but they gave us two round tables put together which was uncomfortable and it felt like we weren't all dining together. The table wasn't laid and had no table cloth. We asked to move to a rectangle table so we could all sit together. Again, this table wasn't laid, it had no table cloth, and the tables looked like something you'd get in an old community centre. The service was terrible. Drinks order was wrong. Food didn't turn up as ordered. Risotto starter was uncooked. Bread didn't come with olive oil as described on menu and I had to ask twice before we got it. For mains, my mum was served the wrong dinner so had to wait another 15 minutes. Our steaks were cold and served with a cold sauce which we had to ask for twice. When we asked for the sauce to be heated up, they said they would do it but the chef said that's the way he likes it! We had to get up from our seats twice to find a waiter to ask them for things they had forgotten. We then went for drinks in the hotel foyer but they then didn't have the drinks we had ordered... I could go on... the list of mistakes is endless. This restaurant was extremely over priced for the service and quality received. Very disappointing.

Zeer slechte bediening. Bediening zeer onervaren. Meer dan 45 minuten wachten op eten, ondanks 2 tafels! Lamsvlees was koud en bijgerechten waren verbrand en kwamen als de rest van het eten reeds op was. Rekening was verkeerd. Er zijn veel betere pubs in de buurt. Spijtig want het hotel zou veel beter kunnen !

Ordered a sirloin steak at £19. long wait. It was unbelievably tough ,I have never had a steak anywhere near as tough. Hard to cut & I made the mistake of attempting to eat it. One mouthful is all I had , I choked on it. I returned it & the waiter returned later stating that both he & the chef had then both tried it & had found it appalling. I had ordered a side order of chips {£3.50] & ended up just eating the chips for which I was charged. We were staying at the hotel [Woodlands Park ] & would class breakfast as average . Food was not topped up on the buffet, nor was anything refrigerated on the bar top in any manner ,despite the breakfast time running some 3 hours. The building is nice but quality very poor ,vastly overpriced.

Whilst very quiet, this restaurant has a wide menu and food is of good quality. Also has a reasonable wine list. Service was good. The Hotel is five minutes drive from Cobham but I'm just not sure you would ever visit this restaurant as a destination if you were not staying in the hotel. Mains cost from £12 (Cottage Pie) to £25 (Rib Eye Steak). Great desert list approx £6 - £8.

Had dinner as part of a package at the hotel and I must say it was a real treat. There is a good menu of dishes to choose from. The staff are especially attentive and friendly and even though we were in rather hidden part of the restaurant, we never felt ignored. I'm glad to say, there was only one dish on the menu with a supplement charge - I loathe to read that there are lots of add-ons for a pre-paid meal. Congratulations for a fab dining experience.

Bensons is a lovely modern light and well decorated restaurant within Woodlands Park Hotel. We were given a very warm welcome our coats were taken. The menu comprises 2 parts a fixed price lunch 3 courses for £25 with 3/4 options for each course.Or the alacarte menu.We were asked would we like water, drinks order.Pavel was very informative regarding the wines and offered a taster to help with the final choice. The Soup and the Duck Breast starters were both lovely. We were served warm bread and offered seconds. The Lamb was fabulous, tender pink and good portion. They allowed me to substitute the accompanying items with my meal for those meant for another dish without any problems.Pavel and Caroline were attentive and friendly throughout.Dessert was very beautifully presented even had happy birthday on the plate for mom.Would definitely dine here again.

I feel sorry for Bensons, if this was located on the High Street, I am sure it will do much better. Food can be good, indeed pork belly was excellent, the burgers are excellent, the service is attentive, mainly though because it is located in a hotel with full facilities and hardly anybody ever goes to this restaurant. It therefore lacks atmosphere, in fact is almost like a closing down restaurant and that is a shame. If the hotel was busier, so would this place be.

I've stayed here many times now. Every time the food lets it down. Given there's little choice on the room service menu you'd think they'd be able to master the few dishes. Unfortunately they don't. Food is cold, bland, and tasteless. Huge room for improvement needed

This is an odd shaped room, which is tucked down the side. I haven't eaten dinner there, but having seen the menu, I wouldn't either! It is great for breakfast and, if the weather is nice, you can eat outside. It's a buffet, with cooked-to-order mains. It's comprehensive for breakfast. The coffee is good (filter and espresso), too. It opens at 0700 during the week, but only 0800 at weekends. I like it for breakfast, only.

Firstly I would like to compliment the waiters who attended to us for their wonderful service. They went out of their way to ensure that we were accommodated in every way possible. There were two of us and we both ordered the same main course which was the dish of the day. As it was a seafood spaghetti, we asked the waiter as to the seafood ingredients. We were informed that it was spaghetti with squid, fish, prawns and mussels. We then asked the waiter to check with the chef whether the mussels could be replaced by prawns. When the dish arrived, it was spaghetti with prawns and no other ingredients. Having checked with the waiter about the other ingredients he did offer to replace our dishes and/or to provide a dish of fish and squid. We decided that as we would have to wait again, we would continue with our meal. For the price of a main course, we expected a higher standard. The spaghetti came on a white plate tossed in a light tomato sauce and sprinkled with prawns. Visually not very appealing and although tasty was a dish that did not stand out. The desserts were better.

Met with family for breakfast one Saturday morning. Lovely location & have attended several weddings & functions at The Woodlands Park Hotel & have thoroughly enjoyed each one. Breakfast however at Benson's was a huge disappointment. Badly let down by staff who constantly used the excuse that a wedding was taking place later that morning for their poor service & lack of interest. I had to keep asking for items that should have already been set on the table..orders were forgotten & on arrival were incorrect. Not the relaxing start to the day that we were expecting. Poor standards of service which badly let the hotel down. Such a shame. Hope management can improve these issues as it is a lovely location.

My wife and I went here for lunch after touring Hampton Court Palace and it was absolutely perfect! Situated in the heart of a charming village near the palace it oozes charm and sophistication. The welcome and service was exceptional, and as an entirely family-run enterprise they do everything possible to make you feel right at home. Our starters were quick and delicious and the mains were incredible. My wife had the moules and they were some of the best we’ve ever had. My filet of beef was cooked to perfection with a nice crust on the outside and perfectly pink in the centre. I cannot recommend this place highly enough!
