Bellis in South Lakeland

Breakfast was delicious - I had a Full English. Service was prompt and friendly. We enjoyed our experience.

We only wanted "elevenses" - coffee and a toasted teacake but both were excellent and we were served promptly and cheerfully. As out guest house had provided us with a large packed lunch we were sorry we could not stop for lunch!

We stay in Ambleside when we visit the Lake specially to be able to eat at Bellis. The service is perfect and the food amazing. I usually have the short rib beef but it has been replaced by other tasty alternatives and I had the lamb cutlets and my husband the beef stroganoff.everything is freshly made and freshly cooked. Cannot recommend highly enough. If you are in Ambleside -book a table you will not be disappointed

Please eat at Bellis whenever you visit Ambleside. The food is excellent and the service is better. My waitress was fast and efficient and friendly.

Wow wow wow. 10 out of 10. Absolutely fabulous food, service and wine. Liver pate, beef stroganoff and chocolate cake. Will definately come again on our next visit to Ambleside. Thank u x

Mackerel Pate starter was terrific . Steak stroganoff and chicken with Maderia sauce were both nicely cooked. Yes it is a bit pricey, especially when they try to sneak a 10% service charge on the bill (not shown on menu !) but all courses freshly prepared and home made.

Lovely place for lunch in Ambleside. Nice food, friendly staff.

Price is decent. Service is excellent. One of the best shakshukas in my life! Rich in tomatoes. Generous and perfectly cooked poached eggs. Focacia was pretty good. Toilets were clean. Sinks were small.

A very accomplished meal with quick and charming service . The sea bass and lamb were particularly good but really all the mains were delicious and the choc dessert to die for. The portions were elegant but sufficient and their white Rioja was excellent for the price. Shame we can’t come more often.

We were a group of 8 people and the service was amazing towards us. First if all, the food did worth the money. It was super tasty. Also, the environment was very nice. But the one thing that stayed with us was the girl who was surving us. If we remember correctly her name was Jaide and she was the most extremely kind person we ever stumbled upon for survicing.

Often, pop in for a some lunch and the food is always good, friendly service.

Walked past here looking for somewhere to eat Sunday evening liked the look of the menu and thankfully decided to eat here. The food was good and plentiful not overly priced but hearty. Front of house was excellent she was on the ball and very good never got her name which was remis but found she was a spanish lady with an Aussie accent. She apologised for our wait for food which to be fair wasnt an issue we were chilling. Later found out that the heat of the kitchen had got to much for one of the chefs who left mid service leaving one chef to complete service. Hats off to him he did and I heard or saw no complaints. We will definately be back.

Stopped by on a whim and was not disappointed at all. Our server made us feel welcome as soon as we entered and really loved the way they have decorated the place. Food was amazing, both our fish and duck dishes were cooked perfectly. Will definitely visit this place again when we are in the area

We were recommended to try Bellis before our visit to Ambleside and can honestly say we were not disappointed. We booked in advance to guarantee a table which is a must to avoid disappointment. The service was excellent by the waitress who unfortunately I don't remember by name but she was very attentive and a credit to the restaurant. Food was outstanding and with the ambience made the evening a memorable one. We'll definitely be back.

I chose this stop for morning coffee as it looked a more pleasant experience than Costa but I really wasn’t impressed. I’ve never been anywhere with table service that expects you to pay before you receive your drink. I’m not sure if they have an issue with people not paying or whether the staff member didn’t like the look of me. Other customers appeared to pay after despite the staff member telling a story about it being a new policy. Either way it’s not what I’d expect from somewhere like this. Drinks not generous and spilt over the side of the cup. Tea stewed and left a greasy film on the surface. Service not friendly as described in other reviews. Toilets clean but in need of renovations. I won’t be back.

Great little restaurant in the heart of Ambleside. From the start the service was friendly and attentive. You can tell the staff really care about your experience here. Food was cooked perfectly and full of flavour. Highly recommended.

Incredible food and excellent service. We had a mix from the main menu and specials board. Steak and fish cooked perfectly, veg crisp and fresh , everything piping hot. Our server Courtney, was professional, friendly and very customer focused. Really nice atmosphere with an intimate vibe, without feeling cramped I will definitely be booking again

The food was delicious. We had the Cesar Salad (which was made with freshly grilled , warm chicken) & was utterly devine. The chicken, bacon & mayo sandwich was another winner. Nice selection of wines & beers too. Service was friendly and quick. Lost 1 star because the only dog friendly table was outside & it's on the main road through the town, which makes it very noisy & a bit stinky. Ifyou sit inside, it's lovely.

Had v good breakfast. Took a long time and they probably should have warned people there would be a wait. We heard other tables complaining about the wait.

This little bistro was great from start to finish. Even on a Monday night when the rest of the town was quiet this place still had a lovely atmosphere. The lady on front of house was attentive & genuine so put you at ease. Obviously you come for the food which was gorgeous, so much so we ended doing three courses & nothing was too much trouble for the staff so in a world of fast food and self-service this place is a real treat so well done Bellis and see you again soon

A really lovely little cafe. Stopped for tea and a bite whilst in town. The steak sandwich was one of the best I've tasted - beautifully cooked and with a wonderful filling of onions and mustard mayo, balanced perfectly. Prompt and efficient service, warm and cosy inside despite the rain. Top marks and well worth a visit.

Very good service! Unbelievable attitude towards guests! And their Caesar is the tastiest Caesar salad I've ever tasted! I love this place!

If you ever in Ambleside suggest you visit here. Food is excellent and also atmosphere. Check out the fresh fig starter and the lamb chops.

The worst coffee ever...so watery, it had no flavour...very expensive too for the quality. They have no idea how to do a flat white coffee.

Lovely independent eatery, breakfast, brunch, evening meals. Staff very friendly, welcoming and efficient. Food is fab, apparently locally sourced, cost reasonable and good value. Went for brunch, will be back for an evening meal.

Sorry to say that I didn't enjoy my lunch at all. Had chicken Caesar salad. It was basically lettuce, about half a small chicken breast sliced, one parmesan shaving and mayonnaise not ceasar dressing and it was twelve pounds!. Really disappointing. Quite a lot of food on the menu wasn't available. I work hard for my money and want to support local businesses but also want to receive what I have paid for.

Maybe too high expectations due to the reviews. Good service. Food was alright but overpriced although the lamp chops were a bit uncooked and lack of taste. Potato "tower" needed more boiling, were a bit hard.

We had an amazing meal and the service was really attentive and welcoming . So much so we are back again tonight before we go home

Walking around Ambleside in the wet weather is no fun! .. so we went in Bellis for refreshments. Sat in the window on the two seater table watching the rain coming down. Ordered tea for two and coffee cake, only to be told that the cake was still in the oven. So I ordered Victoria sponge cake instead. Glad I did .. what a lovely cake, light and very tasty! Even better when we came to pay, they actually took cash!! .. 5 stars!!

The best restaurant we’ve visited in the Lake District. The food was delicious and the service outstanding. Our waitress even made us espresso martinis which were not on the menu. Absolutely superb.

Our 3rd visit here, we love this place. There has recently been a change in management so the menu has been revised slightly. My favourite - Chicken Loaded Fries has gone, which is a shame. The serving staff are as before though and this is a good thing. Excellent as always, service is impeccable and food is hearty and warming.

We came here on the final night of our trip and it was just what we wanted after a week of pub grub. I had the salmon ceaser salad and my partner had the sea bass, which were both delicious and healthy. The restaurant itself is really cosy with a nice atmosphere and the server was really friendly. Would definitely go back!

After nipping in to see if they had any availability, the host was incredibly welcoming. They had a table available a little later so we came back… and we are so glad we did! The food was exquisite. We both had steaks and they were cooked to perfection. The service was brilliant and the vibe of the restaurant was calm and the atmosphere was brilliant. Dont think twice! Food, host, atmosphere 👌🏼

Very friendly service, nice relaxed atmosphere. Food was all excellent and perfectly cooked. Main course portions in particular were generous.

We decided to book a table for our evening meal after calling in for coffee a couple of days before. The specials sounded tempting and that's why we wanted to try one for our evening meal. We weren't disappointed, we had the braised rib of beef and it was delicious. Service was exceptional and it's certainly worth booking as it was very popular.

Great casual dining in the lovely town of Ambleside. We booked a table at the last minute here for dinner but they fitted us in without fuss. The restaurant is very small so it is best to book ahead. The menu is quite small which we thought was a good sign and it is clear that all food is freshly cooked. The beef rib defeated the member of our party who is a great meat eater although the declared that it was delicious. The lamb chops were tender and cooked to perfection, crispy on the outside but pink in the middle and were top notch. The price was very reasonable and we al agreed the meal had been a superb experience and a great night out.

Really lovely meal and service. Called in for coffee and booked for an evening meal. I had the slow cooked rib of beef which was so tender and just melted in the mouth and my husband the lamb chops. Both excellent. We will definitely return

Great food and service at a reasonable price. But in the past when walking past we've been confused. The dark rich coloured decor gives cocktail/wine bar vibes. I think if it could just convey a bit more cafe/restaurant it could get even more attention.

Stopped here for a meal on a Monday evening and was lucky enough to get a table, strongly advise people to book or you could be missing out on a gem. Both myself and wife had beautifully cooked steaks served by helpful friendly staff. We will definitely come back

We had a very nice meal which passed our expectations. Delicious main course of beef ribs, good starter of figs on toast and then sticky toffee pudding. Service was prompt and friendly and the food was quick to arrive. Overall a great experience and would go again.

Excellent service … our server was very happy to take some photos of our group … and the scones were excellent too! … and it was nice and warm after a cold walk around Loughrigg.

New Year’s Eve at Bellis was amazing, we loved everything! Our food was delicious, the team are so friendly and welcoming, the restaurant is lovely and has a fabulous atmosphere. I would not hesitate to recommend, a place we MUST go back to.

Fantastic!! Completely brilliant, what a wonderful experience, we booked for New Year’s Eve, late as we had to add to our party and could add to our original booking at another venue. We were welcomed by a really warm welcome, by just the right level of friendly and professional service, the food was delightful, cooked perfectly and the presentation beautiful . We love Ambleside but even more now. This place is a must!!! We will be back very soon, thank you all for a wonderful meal.
