I have purchased many cakes and pastries over the last 7 years at belgique Epping. I travel over 25 miles from where i live in nw London I have to say that i won’t be returning the cakes i purchased today barley had any fruit in them the cream was synthetic and nothing like you sold previously

I have found my dream pastry: a Belgique hazlenut eclaire 😍. Without doubt this cafe serves the best pastries in Epping!

Spent £14 on a breakfast! The hash browns were soft and greasy, the mushrooms were tinned! The eggs were hard, the sausages were deep fried!!! The tomatoes were burned! And the beans were cheap! Shocking!! Never ever again

Sunday 28th Jan. Visited Belgique in Epping whilst on our way back to pick our car up and from seeing Depeche Mode the night before at O2 London (trivia. Coincidentally David Gahan is a Epping lad). Dropped in to grab a veggie breakfast. Fantastic food. Value for money and lovely atmosphere in this cafe. I didn’t take any images of the breakfast but… perfect and has a mix of olives, hummus, tomatoes, beetroot patty, toast with fried egg, beans, mushrooms and potato hash brown. Looking at the menu and especially the deserts I can say I was tempted but the breakfast was enough ton this occasion 😉

I been in Epping for first time, i found a coffee shop there BELGIQUE COFFEE🌷woww great food very yummy 😋 nice and great atmosphere. Staff very good helpful with good service nice smile, the management there great, they at all the people around the coffee if they something, I was very happy and definitely i go back to had nice coffee and nice breakfast 🌷🌷🌷thank you to all staff and the owner great great job 🙏

We waited 40 minutes for a simple fry up. We had asked for certain foods to be swapped, didn't come as ordered. They forgot bacon and forgot tomatos. The food was cold when it arrived, asked for beans to be reheated - still came back lukewarm. We had asked for sauce when our food arrived as the waiter went to heat our cold beans up - the sauce didn't arrive. We had to ask again. When he gave us the sauce, he slammed it on the table. Food is expensive too - paid upwards of £40 for this breakfast. Would not recommend.

Nice breaky, veggie really good. Had great eggs royal and eggs Benedict in the past. Nice staff.

Don’t ever buy bread in this shop.It comes from France frozen and then is ‘refreshed’. I was told I don’t understand what ‘fresh’ means ! I thought if it was fresh it was baked and sold on the same day. Had bought here and it tastes stale.

Just had an amazing lunch here with my bestie. Elegant surrounding, nice and bright. Very friendly people working there. Food freshly cooked, all tasted great. Cakes looked phenomenal but too full to try, maybe next time!

Nice place on Sunday morning to drink your coffee

The goat cheese tarlet was presented well with a little garnish. It was heated, which enhanced the lovely smell. The taste was delicious; light pastry and packed filling, but not eggs! The flat whites were quite good, even without the signature leaf on top. The cakes looked lovely and were delicious when eaten, the orange one was our favourite. The shop was made accessible by providing a portable ramp that the staff placed and removed. The music wasn't my taste.

Went in to grab a drink on my lunch break, I was told to sit down and we waited for nearly 20 minutes to be acknowledged and given a menu, the waitress ignored us completely and served the table next to us, even after trying to get her attention quite obviously as she walked towards our table and passed it she ignored eye contact, extremely disappointing and frustrating. Eventually another waitress came over to take our order, she was very friendly, she had glasses and dark hair. bearing in mind it was empty in there and this was now after waiting 30 minutes, the table that came in after us had already been served there order at this point. Won’t be going back in a hurry after that experience, normally the service in Epping food/drink places is great with no complaints. Never had issues here before, maybe it was just a bad day! Thanks!

Wonderful Cake. This time we chose a Parisienne and a Pistachio and Apple slice. Absolutely sublime… We love all the different flavours and textures, other favourites are the Lemon Tart, Fruit Tart, Strawberry Tart, Fruit Slice and the Frangipani are brilliant for breakfast.

Had afternoon tea at belgique epping for my daughters 13th birthday. Was pleased to hear that it's fully halal now. Sandwiches were fresh, tasty and delicious. Hot drinks were luxurious and actually came hot! Macarons and mini cakes were exquisite. A small negative would be that we found the scones slightly dry but made up for by the generous pots of clotted cream and jam!

A wonderful, friendly spot for coffee and pastries. The sweet range is extensive and delicious, as is the breakfast sandwich. The staff are friendly and attentive, Daniel and Lauren particularly. Always a pleasure to pop in here.

Manager is rude and a disgrace also his young female assistant. They skive off early take your order and money and then won't let you eat The owner should be made aware

I came with a friend who loves the cakes. But we had breakfast too. Delious food and cofee. Service a bit slow between courses. But we wasn't in too much hurry. Sitting in comfy chairs. Look like the place had recently refurbished. Nice

I feel like you should try everywhere once but I wouldn't recommend coming here more than that! Everything seemed a bit of an effort, half the food on the menu wasn't available and what was there was average at best.

Saw no business hours on entrance. We entered and were given menus. Tried to order but were told kitchen closed at 4.30 so left without purchase. Would have been good to have been told about kitchen when we arrived. Disrespectful. Menu looked good, too.

I wanted to order a cake for my daughter’s graduation. I phoned the shop and spoke to a very abrupt and rude man who had no interest in customer service. It was a few minutes after 12 pm and I was told the cut-off point was 12 pm, to order a cake, I did not know this prior to ringing the shop. His attitude was so atrocious and after several minutes of trying to ask if there was any way I could get a cake from the shop, his rudeness and abruptness put me off and I told him not to bother. I got my daughters cake from elsewhere.

We were tired and thirsty after walking 11 km in the Epping Forest. We were thrilled by the beautiful display of cakes. Decided to take some home for tea. Then I spotted the freshly squeezed orange juice machine! I couldn't ask for more! It was the perfect drink for us! The Black Forest Gateau Roll was delicious! The cherries were soaked in the liquor giving the perfect flavour! I loved it!

Haven’t been for a month or so. Their response to inflation instead of raising prices and reprinting the greasy menus was to instead cut the meat parts of the portions in half. So you get these unbalanced bread heavy meals. I don’t mean light - I mean proper stingy. Count me out. Epping has plenty of alternatives now.

Moved from Woodford to Epping and quality of food between both branches is dis parable. I love the Woodford branch and the food quality there is amazing but the Epping one is like a poor relation. Quality, freshness, portion sizes are not good. I ordered bacon to go with my eggs but I could only described this as grilled wafer thin ham which was burnt to a crisp. I’ve give two stars as the staff are very polite and friendly, friendly and accommodating when I complained but just a shame each time I’ve been in I’ve had to complain about something. I would t visit here, the other branches are much better.

The quality of the food here is not great. The fresh mint tea was off and had a sourish taste as the leaves were old and tasted off. The tea cups were dirty and not cleaned properly. I had to send the cup back. The eggs that come with a "double up" option just means the top bun is added. So it's an extra £4 to add half a bun. What a rip off!

Friendly Staff, nice coffee, however Very disappointed with the food! la petite Belgique breakfast - 1 cold strip of bacon 1 well overcooked sausage, 1 poached egg hard yolk toasted roll, had to ask for butter. Will not be revisiting!

I purchased a birthday cake for my Husbands birthday and I travelled from Cambridgeshire to pick it up. It was so lovely and light and everyone remarked how good it was. I will certainly buy again.

When they say "with salad" they mean a small salad garnish - few bits of rocket and a slice of tomato. But the French Fries were good.

Visited last week for a coffee and cake. Unfriendly staff. I sat and listed to a long, loud and aggressive disagreement in arabic between two staff (some of which I understood and really did not appreciate at all). All in all an unpleasant experiance. The cake and coffe were expensive but okay, but the overall experence was not enjoyable.

Delicious breakfast bap. Crusty roll, poached egg, bacon and sausage. Will definitely do that again.

Great place. Very good food, as expected from Belgique. Dog friendly also, this is Epping. I saw a a review of someone complaining about being dog friendly, but everyone has a dog in this town, what did they expect?

Admittedly did not sit in to eat, but got a selection of cakes to takeaway. The parisian being one of the best cakes ive ever tasted (me and my partner agree on this) loved it so much we went back 2 days later to get another one

This is usually a great place to eat and have a coffee, with polite friendly staff. But when they are busy the customer service is terrible, they can take a long time to get to you and when they do there is a long wait for the food, today I ordered 2 coffee's and food, the coffee's came and by the time the food came we had drunk the coffee's ordered 2 more which never came. They only had 1 waitress on the floor, the other was behind the counter. Not good today, but this is not the first time it has happened, happens regularly if busy.

Went there today .They let dogs in the Restaurant. Is this a first.You do not expect this .Not fair to customers. Never seen this before there .

Sat outside and after 30 mins of being ignored, staff came out and took the order - 40 mins after our arrival. Ordered a veggie wrap and again a long wait. Finally the waiter presented a vegetable burger with an egg on the top. With a flourish the top of the burger flew onto the floor while my friend pointed out that she had ordered a veggie wrap! We were so hungry by this time that she accepted it and he disappeared to remove the egg and replace the bun top. Mine was A Green but with no avocado and a stale bun which couldn’t be eaten as so hard. Foolishly I then bought a loaf of Pave - pricey at £3.10 but I mistakenly thought it might be something special. It was stale and another expensive mistake. The whole experience was like a scene from Faulty Towers complete with the crashing sounds of pans being dropped in the background! Nightmare experience! Beware!

Came for late lunch Sat Afternoon about 3pm. Seated promptly and the waiter, a young gent was attentive and happy to answer any questions. Nothing was too much trouble. Ordered 3 coffees both at the beginning and end of lunch, 3 burgers, lamb, chicken and avocado and a vegetarian burger which my partner said was the best he had ever tasted. Finished with 3 of the best patisserie cakes ever. 2 pistachio and a lemon and coconut tart. Came for a small bite to eat over my birthday weekend and to say we walked away happy and full would be an understatement. Fantastic and will be back soon. Wish this was in my home town.

Wow!!! Was working in Epping for a few days and decided to stop off here through the recommendation of a family friend for breakie, 100% worth it 👍 ordered the french toast as I was only feeling peckish and it came out in an ABUNDANCE!! It was awe-inspiring to look at and the flavours BURST on my taste buds! Wonderful and crafted by a gorgeous chef ;) The waitress suggested I try some cake so I brought 5 and only managed to eat the two, leaving me 3 for my evening snack. The galaxy was tasty and the Parisien was great!!! I would come here everyday if I could, such a shame that I live so far (lucky for my diet). The service was fantastic and the two young ladies who served me were super. the only complaint I have for this place is that I haven’t been able to cum again. I’m going to miss it until I next am able to!!

We went to shop yesterday after a lovely breakfast somewhere else.Just wanted to pick a few nice slices of cake which was always fresh and tasty there...went back home and wanted to enjoy afternoon coffee with lovely treat. Forget! Sorry guys but you sold us 4 old slices of cakes.Each was out of date as sponges was hard and we found an unpleasant taste of old cream. So dissapointed by you yesterday regarding your cakes are not cheap.We bought few times before from you and cakes was always good.What happened yesterday then?

The place is now under new management and it is superb. My wife and last used this place pre pandemic and it was OK but now it is so much better. The new staff are very friendly and welcoming - we were greeted and seted...

Went there on a Sunday afternoon looking for a dessert and found it. Took home 4 different slices to try, my little boy got a free lollipop from the staff so he was happy. Place looked clean, decor is pleasant, the counter is nicely presented, makes you wanna try everything. Belgique is not getting 5 stars from me for 2 reasons: the 4 cakes we tried were very nice but too sweet and that killed some of the flavours, second reason being the price: tad overpriced which will stop some people from coming back more often.

Cosy place. The service is prompt and the staff quite friendly. It is definitely an improvement compared to a few years ago when I last visited.

Chocolate eclair was stale and mouldy, shamble of a coffee shop, many better places to get a coffee in Epping

Ordered a ham, cheese and pickle in brown bap. What I received was some form of preformed fake meat in perfect squares closest thing I can liken it to is spam. About 3 chunks of pickle (which must’ve been scraped out the bottom of the jar) Completely dry, had to remove the imposter ham. Never written a review before but I’m so hungry and so dissatisfied I’m FEWMING. Paid nearly 6 quid for it, total waste

lovely staff very kind, service was not slow and the lunch I had was very tasty. It is clean in there and obeys covid-19 restrictions they also do track and trace, I was very pleased with the experience and I will defiantly be coming back.

Went here after visiting some years ago, used to serve excellent food and very reasonable prices. Looking through the menu, ordered a double eggs benedict and partner ordered a vegetarian roast, about £12 for each plate. Bit expensive considering it's not exactly fine dining but the displays did look really good (and I think this may be where we went wrong, possibly this place is more for cake and tea than actual food). Waiter arrived with a normal Eggs Benedict, the hollandaise sauce had either started to separate out or someone had poured some oil on it, never a good sign, and there was also only 2 poached eggs when I'd ordered a double. Raised this with the waiter who went to check with the "chef" who told him that this was a double Eggs Benedict. I told him I wasn't prepared to pay £12 for this odd creation and he promptly removed it from the table without hesitation, did not offer to do another plate or ever come back again to service the table. Partners food wasn't much better, 2 packet prepared nut roasts with some very lazly grilled vegetables, not dissimilar to what you'd expect from a 2am trip to the kebab shop with a vegetarian in tow and it's only been added to the menu "because what if a vegetarian turns up". They didn't attempt to charge for the returned food which was good, unfortunately meant I had to wait an extra hour to eat - in the end got a tuna crunch baguette from Greggs and sat and ate on the bench in the high street - HIGHLY recommended if weather permits! Overall a poor experience and wont be visiting again, food was substandard although the menu was fantastic and prices way above the quality they are able to deliver.

My dad don’t go out much as he don’t enjoy many places any more, at 82 feels uncomfortable in a lot of places, but loves this place,so we weren’t big spenders as my parents are simple eaters and we are to and we just had 2xfries and 2x mini baguettes and drinks,but enjoy regular visits hear, we wanted to use the toilet but was told it’s out of order? Very strange when a member of staff came out locking with a knife, it’s surely illegal not to provide a toilet within a certain distance! No notice on entry about this, clearly whoever is running this have no experience with older people and bladder experience let alone if you can hold it yourself younger, was told oh well you can go to the George and dragon, by which time my father could have had a embracing accident, and whilst the staff was very nice they had a new menu that day and the service was nice and polite but rushed. Won’t stop us going back as we love this place just tell people before they order no toilet facilities , whilst I know these things happen the facility is a must and asked the staff well what do you do!! They just looked at me blank and said you can go to the George and dragon I guess!, disappointing visit as regulars when in Epping

The service was as before very polite and friendly. The temperature in the cafe was warm, even though it was very chilly outside. The coffee was average but the pastry, which we shared was excellent.

We have family in the area who we see as often as we can. We love this little place and go most times we’re there. We went today and it was so clear from the off that the poor staff were clearly struggling. We were served by a lovely young guy who kept apologising for the delay but it was obvious they really didn’t have the staff on a busy Sunday. We felt so sorry for them, the food was lovely as always but I just felt so sorry for them. We I felt we’re very understanding and appreciated their hard work, others not so much unfortunately. Well done guys, and thank you, we’ll be back

Came for friends birthday treat, drinks got sent back as cold and waited ages on cakes. They were ok when they arrived but scones disappointing. Think it’ll be a while until I’m back, sorry.

We popped for a light lunch on Saturday 23 February and ordered coffees and crab salad rolls. Very disappointing experience, there was obviously a staffing issue as we waited 15/20 minutes for coffee which were lurk warm when delivered, so they were returned and replaced. The crab salad rolls were lacking in crab filling and also contained only large chucks of cucumber, hardly a salad! On the side of the plate was a couple more large chunks of cucumber together with half a dozen rocket leaves. All this cost over £18, I felt ripped off!.

Great place if you have three hours to spare for a 'quick' bite. Incredibly slow service, despite the restaurant being mostly empty. We had to ask for our drinks three times. When our food finally came, it came with a lovely hair on top.

Always have a lovely meal at this restaurant. Staff are friendly and helpful. Went for dinner on this visit, food was great as always, and picked up my Christmas Yule log. So incredibly pleased with it :) it was delicious, picked the hazelnut one. It was great value for money and a lovely centre piece for our dessert. Fantastic selection of breads and cakes too but only got my pre-order this time.

Standards have dropped! Waited half an hour to have our order taken then had to wait another hour for food. No apology was given and the burger was somehow burnt and raw at the same time. Not sure what's happened to this establishment, as it used to be great.

Usually it’s great but I draw the line at sharing my breakfast with a huge filthy stinking dog - I know dog friendly is great but the smell was overwhelming!

After terrible experience in Harrow’s Frankie&Benny’s we found our rescue in Belgique. Fantastic, positive staff. Helpful, nice, attentive and bring what you ordered. Food is great quality. You can taste is fresh. We had it all breakfast, smoothies, strawberry milk shakes (a feast for kids), burger was super nice, pancakes and waffles tasted great (not just sugary). The interior could be nicer ;) Thank you for saving our day!

There are so many things to like about Belgique that I feel a bit mean in marking it down, but it's all about the eating and I'm afraid my bold leap in the dark was a disappointment.Plus points first - elegant range of patisserie, comprehensive and imaginative sandwich menu which allows you to take your pick from all sorts of bready variations and sizes, and the menu was full of interesting ideas.On the other side of the table the bacon baguette was a winner, well filled with quality rashers and with a fresh and zingy garnish.My Brussels Stack - I'd never seen the like and felt compelled to give it a try - was less of a success. Such a pity because it is a brilliant idea - rosti base, slice of black pudding, bacon on top of that and poached egg on top of that. Winner! Well, it would be if the rosti wasn't cut too coarsely and was luke warm at best (cold plates didn't help) and the anaemic poached egg was lacking in taste or, importantly, yolk flow.The whole point of a dish like this is a nice big runny egg oozing down onto the ingredients below - without it, you're on a loser even though the bacon, as above, was good stuff and the black pudding was the best I've had in ages.Decent coffee, Belgian beers are available if you like that sort of thing and so are wines, service is swift and smiley.

We visited Belgique on Sunday as a party of 10 - it was actually the cakes in the window that caught our eyes as we were planning to go to a local restaurant on the high road but were so happy we changed our lunch plans. Upon entering, the staff all seemed very welcoming and we were led to a table by the bubbly server. Understandably we had a large gathering but the waiter rearranged the whole upper section of the restaurant to accommodate us and a drinks order swiftly followed. We all had a variety of pastries and cooked breakfasts, cooked perfectly, not a clean plate in sight. The drinks were served with extra cream/hot/cold milk for coffees and the team made us feel brill. Can’t fault the place, well worth the money and strongly recommend to anyone in the area. Salt beef is amazing.

The tables were clean and tidy and we were served by a polite and attentive member of staff. The Americano came with hot milk and the cappuccino was hot and my partner liked it.The coffee wasn't in my opinion up to Costa's flavour, but good nevertheless.The selection of pastries was most extensive and looked wonderful, but I passed by on this occasion.

We went in On Saturday there was 5 of us and it was so busy and wasn't sure we would get a table. Luckily some people were just leaving so we held on. My family members all had a cooked breakfast and my son hardly said a word whilst eating his lol, it looked great and he clearly enjoyed it. I had the eggs Benedict, and it was amazing to say the least. We were served by a young guy with a ponytail, I didn't catch his name but nothing was to much trouble for him, he was so happy and cheerful, even though the place was heaving he didn't take the smile off his face the whole time We were there. Just so refreshing to see to be honest. Great place to go, we don't have one of these cafe's in our home town, so will be making this our go to place from now on. Thanks guys.

My husband and l decided to pop in today as we’ve always liked Belgique, and were disappointed when our local one closed

Ordered daughter's birthday cake here. The best cake ever, even if a bit on the pricey side. You do have to order them in advance, but it can be done online.

My wife and I visited this place today around 3pm. today. We were surprised to find that most of the 'Belgian' pastries on offer were around £4.50 EACH to eat in and many were even more than that! (We've paid less at the Savoy Hotel.) After looking at the menu we decided on a small sandwich each on a white baguette but we were then told that the baguettes were only for customers ordering the large size sandwiches and we had to settle for what they called a crusty roll (which wasn't). We were at a table inside the restaurant but because the air-con system was blowing very cold - no complaint there, it was a hot day - we decided to eat at one of the outside tables and so informed the waiter. He said if we wanted to eat at one of the pavement tables we would have to pay in advance 'in case we ran away without paying'. I am 92 and walk with a stick and my wife is 80. I will leave the reasoning to you, dear reader. At my wife's protest another member of staff graciously allowed us a reversal of this edict and we were ultimately served with our very fancy but not particularly appetizing 'sandwiches'. I suppose we've had worse - but not for £6 a throw. Verdict: pretentious, expensive and over-bearing. We shall not return.
