Bath House Restaurant in South Somerset

We visited Bath House for a celebratory birthday meal. The ambiance was delightful and the food fabulous. We certainly will be visiting again.

My husband and myself booked on a Tuesday for the set menu and it was absolutely amazing 🤩 Chicken spring rolls were beautifully fresh and hot,the main of beef in black bean and chicken satay were very tasty and there was plenty of it.We also had the banana fritter and it was simply the best we have ever had and commented that we would come back just for that! Thanks again for a wonderful evening

We have just returned from a 2 night stay. We chose Bath House for its central location to lots of National Trust properties & for their reviews. We couldn’t fault our stay. Perfect room, meal & breakfast & amazing service from Shin & her boss. A real breath of fresh air. Thank you so much

Wow. Hospitality done right. My room was immaculate. I was sceptical about eating here as a reviewer said the Tuesday set menu was disappointing. I have to say it was probably the best set menu I’ve had in a while! Simplistic, good value, and tasty. It was busy tonight. The team work hard to get the food out and were incredibly attentive but not intrusive. I also intended to check out a few local pubs but was more than happy with the draught beer from bar. It’s a 5/5 from me.

Friends from Barcelona stayed in a family room for 2 nights whilst visiting. They were Bowled Over by everything! The room ,the staff and the amazing breakfast choices! We joined them for a drink one evening. Very friendly and attentive staff and comfortable. They deserve their HIGH rating!

We had a lovely meal here at lunch time. It's very nice inside the restaurant. The food was gorgeous and reasonabley priced. We were looked after very well. We will definitely be returning when we are visiting Chard again. I would recommend a visit if you want somewhere nice to eat.

Booked here for our wedding anniversary after seeing the delicious menu on their website and reading the reviews. Called on the day to confirm the booking. Unfortunately, when we arrived, we were dismayed to find it was a set menu. It did not mention this anywhere on the website, nor did they tell us when we booked or called to confirm the booking. When we queried it, we just got a very brusque "well, it's Tuesday" two or three times, as if we were complete idiots. They said it was clear on Facebook but not everyone has or checks Facebook when booking a meal! The attitude of the owner was very poor and she couldn't care less when we said we wouldn't be able to stay. No apology for the miscommunication at all so we didn't bother trying to rebook for another night.

I have been for dinner at Bath house many times, the food is INCREDIBLE. I have never been anywhere where the staff are so kind and friendly. It is the most wonderful restaurant. Everything I have tried has been delicious, my family have also never had meal that isn't perfect!

My husband and I, and two young kids stayed for one night in this wonderful hotel. We all wish we could have stayed for more! The staff was incredibly friendly and warm, the room was spotless clean (and very spacious and comfortable) breakfast was fresh and delicious. We look forward to visiting again, and recommend it whole heartedly!

We tried out the Tuesday night theme night. Food was cooked perfectly. Delicious ribs, sweet and sour chicken and stir fried beef with ginger. Great flavours and always beautifully presented. Restaurant has a lovely, relaxed vibe and always enjoy coming here. Thanks and see you again soon 😊

We were very impressed with the food and the service, really good flavours and everything was light and cooked to perfection. The ribs we had for starters had plenty of meat on them which was a nice surprise! Very lovely staff too. We will be back!

Went here on the recommendation of a friend and so glad we did as I don’t think we would have bothered otherwise . The food is amazing, and varied. A little pricey but great for special occasions. They just need to check that the food is ok. May be tricky to get in if you have mobility issues.

Hidden gem in Chard. Had no idea it was so good or so big. Also the cleanest fish tank I've ever seen. Food was incredible and staff very friendly and helpful

We had a fantastic meal here last night! The food was so tasty, perfectly cooked and presented really well. The service was excellent. We were there a long time and not once did we feel hassled. I can highly recommend this restaurant, and especially the Wasabi Prawns and Sirloin Steak!

First visited the Bath House 2 years ago on holiday. Came back this week and had to go back for tea. Food was stunning and so flavourful. Our waitress was very new and did a great job of looking after us

We have eaten in most restaurants/pubs in and around Lyme Regis and the Bath House wins. The food is good quality and inventive. Traditional classics along with dishes with a Malaysian twist. Staff are always friendly and attentive, highly recommend.

I think we’ve eaten here about 3-4 times when we visit the UK and the food never fails to more than meet more than excellence. This time we had their set menu which was no more short of fantastic than ever. Such super friendly owners and staff all set in an ambient restaurant makes for a great night out guaranteed to satisfy!!

We spent three nights here this week and were really happy with our stay. The room was really comfortable and the food was outstanding. Breakfast here was wonderful a good choice on offer and Dinners were excellent, Staff were very friendly and helpful and we can highly recommend.

Asian fusion food was a delight. So much to choose from and we could not find even the slightest criticism. Service was timely, all food was freshly cooked and the service was unobtrusive and efficient

Modern busy restaurant, lovely friendly waiting staff, nice ambiance. Excellent starter of Spring Rolls, disappointing mains. I had Monk Fish and substituted the pea puri for potato Rostis. The thick rosties were dry and burnt on one side. The pieces of monkfish were dry and tasteless. The steamed veg was fine but the meal as a whole was very bland. My husband had Chicken and Chorizo which was ok. Having read the numerous positive reviews, we are loathed to leave a negative one, but we were disappointed with the mains and felt they were overpriced (when asked, I did feedback during my meal, that it was just ok). The waiting staff made a point of apologising as we paid the bill.

Wonderfully presented meals matched only by the exceptional quality. Would highly recommend the Bath House Restaurant as the best in Chard.

Great meal we had scallops, beef rendang, duck, brownee and I have to say wow, wow, wow, presentation, flavour, service all top notch. Every course was superb well done guys this is a great restaurant if you are anywhere near Chard go there.

Had a really nice lunch here. Cajun chicken, prepped and cooked freshly to order. Presentation was excellent. Service attentive but unhurried. Clean and warm. Love this place for its quality and style.

We were staying in Chard so picked somewhere that had a restaurant. The perfect choice. The Malaysian style menu was small but varied, which suited me as I can never make my mind up! My husband had veg spring rolls to start followed by panko chicken - he hasn’t stopped raving about it - and I had two starters, the platter followed by the warm duck - both excellent. We had a shared ice cream for pud. Next morning, after having stayed in one of their lovely, immaculately clean rooms, we had breakfast - plenty of choice and delicious. We will definitely return next time we are down in that area.

We just stayed for 3 nights with young children and it was amazing. The hotel is wonderful.it is soo clean and the staff go above and beyond for you. The food in the restaurant is 5star on it's own but the hotel matches it easily....

The Hotel also caters for non resident guests in this lovely restaurant. The starters, mains and deserts were amazing. The service was very friendly.

We spent a couple of evenings at this restaurant during our stay. The food, service and ambience was excellent and the staff could not have done more for us.

Shared Wasabi Prawns and Satay to start, both excellent. Steak for mains was perfectly cooked and best I have had for years, service and cleanliness great. Sensibly priced. Great experience.

We live several hours away but make a point of getting here a few times a year because my wife likes the scallops so much. The menu is shorter than usual and scallops are not on it but can be available by prior order - delicious!I chose the spare ribs with peppercorn salt and really enjoyed them. The restaurant is participating in the Eat Out promotion so best to reserve a table in advance as they were very busy last night...

A relatively short menu suggests that quality is preferred to quantity in terms of variety. It was a shame that I was unwell!

My partner and I ordered duck in plum sauce, chicken curry and king prawn satay as a treat last night- and what a treat! Wonderfully spicy, fresh dishes to warm us up on a freezing cold Saturday evening. I knew that the Bath House served excellent food, having eaten there before, so I'm delighted that Karine and Ron are able to offer a takeaway service for the time being. You need to phone in advance and book a time to collect your meal, & pay by card on collection.

Had a cheeky last minute bite out last night. Just perfect. Trio starter epic, fish pie lush and wife said game pie delicious. The desert photo speaks for itself!

Once again trip advisor has come up trumps.Staying in the area we popped in for an early evening meal and were pleasantly surprised by the service and quality of food.It's easy to see how this is no1 in chard.Well worth a visit if you are nearby.

I was staying locally with family (sister owns a hotel) so it was an opportunity for her to get away from her own chefs. Made a reservation and on arrival staff couldn't be more helpful. My wife is celiac and dairy intolerant plus my sister a vegetarian, always a challenge but on this occasion, easily met.Food was of a very high quality and well presented with attentive but unobtrusive service. The reason was my 70th birthday and the receptionist, from my sisters hotel and unknown to us, called the Bath House and informed them. They then produced a birthday dessert, complete with roman candle free of charge.A very thoughtful way to end a great evening

Karine and Ron are such wonderful hosts and last night,as ever, nothing was too much trouble.3 of our family are coeliac, and there was plenty of choice on the Christmas menu for everyone to have whatever they fancied!The wasabi prawns were definitely a favorite for us!4 of our group were VERY happy with the steak; it was perfectly cooked.The fish pie was beautifully creamy without being too rich,the fish pie (including scallops)was succulent and the silky mash potato had a generous cheesy topping - just delicious and very filling. Being an avid fish pie lover,this is definitely my favorite place to go!! Ron is such a gifted chef,& we are never disappointed with our choices. The Rioja was thoroughly enjoyed - wonderful depth of flavour and true to its description.The waitresses,Shin and Charlotte, were so lovely - always helpful and quietly professional.Just the right balance of attentiveness. All in all, if you want delicious food, and a tranquil, atmosphere with incredibly caring owners..look no further! Bath House is a light in Chard which deserves visiting.You willnot be disappointed!

We went here for a family dinner. We moved to Chard a few months ago. It was my husband's birthday so his brother and wife came down to see us. They stayed in the Bath house and loved the accommodation. However food was only ok for our meal. My husband had to send his main back to be rewarmed. Like said staff were lovely. However my wife thought the steak could have had some gravy or gravy type side dish. All in all quite expensive for a reasonable dinner. Especially when you compare to Brighton where we come from, which has a reputation as being expensive. We will however come back, as i said lovely staff.

It's been over 6 years since we have been to Bath House for no particular reason but tonight, by chance we ended up going after a long absence! In summary, great ambience, lovely friendly staff with just the right amount of attentiveness and as for the food..... I'm so glad we couldn't get in to where we were going as it meant we rediscovered just how delicious Bath House food is and will return again so. Easy on the eye, sensory on the nose and an explosion of taste delights in the mouth. Just go soon, you won't be disappointed. Our party had: Mussels (best ever had in his words and super fresh) I had the trio (ribs, shrimps & spring roll) all delicious mains included chicken, red fish, veggie option which was raved about by our vegetarian member and duck that my mother in law was enchanted by! Deserts kept the standards high too.

Really pleased that my brother persuaded me to go to this restaurant for which I didn’t have good memories from many many years ago under different ownership. I was delightfully surprised with the welcome, the atmosphere and with the food. I enjoyed a delicious beef rendang and my mother the wasabi prawns. Definitely coming again when next in Chard.

Ron and Corrine are amazing hosts; nothing is too much trouble,& Ron is a superb chef. The meals are absolutely delicious and very varied.Every time we go there we are extremely happy with everything.

Me and my dad stayed at Bath House Hotel and other than the included breakfast, we've decided to eat in this restaurant during our stay as well. There's a nice selection of meals and desserts so it's guaranteed that you'll find something delicious even if you're a picky eater. The atmosphere inside is very pleasant with quiet music in the background and fishes swimming inside a big aquarium giving you a nice relaxed experience.

Wasabi prawns are an absolute must to try if you visit this wonderful restaurant.

We tend to eat here every few months. It’s the best place in Chard to eat. The service is alway first class and the food delicious.

A pleasant restaurant which cleverly combines Chinese and European recipes. The room is spacious and immaculate, with quiet tuneful relaxing background music. The service is excellent. The menu has wide choice, with all the modern options. We had delicious asparagus and green pea soup, spring rolls and Duck. The wine list was excellent and so was the delicious bread with figs!

I rarely give five stars but, based on our experience on Monday, Bath House deserves it.

Just a little underwhemed by our visit, warmish welcome & good food/service. Not been for some time & felt we were rushed through our meal. The quality is still there but not sure about the passion.

Out in Chard's High Street with a colleague who prefers Italian to Indian, and found La Violetta had closed and the premises are up for sale. So - a hasty look at Tripadvisor and saw the Bath House, so decided to give it a try.

I've been going to Bath House for years and years and have not once been disappointed. The food is second to none (especially the Wasabi King Prawn starter - I never go there and not have that) and the staff are just lovely. The owners Karine and Ron are two of the loveliest people you will ever meet, I always look forward to my next visit to this restaurant. If I could eat here every week I would (who am I kidding.... if I could eat here every day I would!).

We have visited two or three times a year for the last three years or so and the food is always delicious.

A good menu from which to select - we had the comfit of duck which was very tasty, a good size portion and an individual bowl of vegetables. The goats cheese on mushroom and spinach was also an excellent choice. Reasonable priced. Very nice restaurant with attentive waitress

Came here on a work do and enjoyed a set menu, the wine menu was ok, and the Mendoza was nice. The wasabi prawns was the highlight of the starters, the main courses were pretty standard Asian fair and I am not sure why so many score it so outstandingly well however did not eat a la carter so perhaps I missed the best of this restaurant. Service was attentive and friendly.

We called in for tea, and I had the slow cooked lamb shank and my partner had Bath House fish pie, both were excellent; we did not have a starter or sweet, but we were full nonetheless. Well worth trying.

Stayed in bath house on the way to Devon. Lovely welcoming owners, immaculately clean and comfortable room, and lovely breakfast. Highly recommend.

Popped in for a date with my partner. Food was excellent. Had mains, desserts and my partner had 2 drinks and it came to £80, prices I think are worth it for the food, but be aware it’s not budget but worth it for a treat.

We have recently moved back to the area and used to order from the Chinese when Bath House was a takeaway - the best Chinese take away in Chard hands down! Now the eat in only restaurant is a mix of Asian and English. The menu is a great blend of English & Chinese, I love the salt and pepper squid, it did not disappoint and the wasabi prawns were amazing. The mains were tasty, we ordered the fragrant masaman curry and yummy duck breast, both perfect. The atmosphere was really nice and all the staff very friendly and keen to please. I would 100% recommend Bath House, the food is delicious and the atmosphere lovely. I can’t wair to go back.

This little place could so easily be "missed" if you weren't looking for it. Tucked by the back of Sainsburys, it is noticeable only because of it's pretty frontage amongst an odd collection of shops. We called for lunch there the only time we have ever been to Chard, and I have to say it was a really great little place....clean....smart.....and with attentive staff. We simply had soup, along with drinks, but it was excellent soup, obviously homemade, and so good, we have vowed to eat an evening meal here on our next visit to the area.

We ate here one night whilst recently staying in Chard, I google searched restaurants in Chard, I looked at a few menus and THE BATH HOUSE just looked different. Some Mediterranean choices, but mostly Malaysian. All courses were cooked to perfection and piping hot. Good wine choice too. I had Wasabi prawns for starter and would definitely have again, for main I had Rendang curry gorgeous. The ambience of this place is incredible. Don't be a bit put off by neutral remarks try it if you like different flavors. It's an amazing place, as is the food. We spoke at length with the waitress, She was lovely, very informative and helpful with our menu choices. Give this place a try, don't miss out!!

Good choice of Asian fusion food, lovely dining room and good service. Traditional fare is also available but its worth trying the Asian food if you like spice.

We visited based on Tripadvisor reviews about the quality of the food and didn’t regret it. We had the rendang and katsu curries, which were both beautiful. The restaurant was full, so was fortunate that we had a reservation, but they were also accommodating with us pushing our booking back by an hour on the day. To say how busy it was, including a large birthday party at one end of the restaurant, the staff were all attentive and service was quick.

Food was OK but not up to the standard suggested by some of the rave reviews on here. To start we had: trio of ribs, wasabi prawns and vegetable spring rolls - tasty but ribs were overcooked; pheasant and pistachio terrine, good. Followed by: slow roast belly of pork, good; chicken katsu curry, tasty but rather salty. Service was friendly but we did feel we were a bit rushed at the end. Perfectly pleasant but did not live up to the hype.

Lovely little place, we had a beautiful steak here, one of the best steaks I’ve ever had I’ll be honest! big rustic chips with it and some veg. it was very pricey which is the off put of returning here but if you’re like me and don’t mind paying that bit more on a special occasion maybe then it’s a lovely place to go! great food and a lovely atmosphere.

On a number of recommendations we ate at Bath House Restaurant recently and we were not disappointed. The food was excellent, just a friends had recommended, and the service was excellent, even the vegetarian amongst us ate very well. We will definitely eat there again. However, I was a little disapointed as we had been told that, as well as excellent food, it was a first class restaurant. I am not sure I would agree with that. The restaurant itself was clean and simple but not perhaps with the "wow" of a first class restaurant. I was disappointed with the very small, paper napkins. Tables were quite close together, although this did not cause us any problems, but on a noisy night this might not be very comfortable.

Bath House is quite a modern but homely restaurant with a fairly concise but fascinating menu, which can be best described as international with an eastern influence.

We were staying in the hotel visiting family, and the restaurant was the obvious choice just for convenience. However the friendly, excellent service and the delicious food, perfectly presented, just wowed us so we ate there all three nights without a twinge of regret! Ron and Karine, the owners, and Shin, who runs the restaurant, are all amazing and couldn't have been more helpful, efficient or charming. And Ron's food is superb! We had belly pork, chicken katsu, chocolate brownies and mango sorbet the first night, then the utterly delicious fillet steak the second so we could only squeeze in the chocolate ice cream, which was so amazing we did it again the next night, with game pie. All beautifully presented, excellent wine list - number 11 goes brilliantly with the steak and the game pie! - and we can't recommend it highly enough. If you've never been and you're in the area, give it a try. You won't regret it!

Ron does a magnificent job in the kitchen. The food is excellent, and made for a very pleasant experience in a small town.

We went here on the day before New Year’s Eve, sadly it was very quiet only one other table of 2. Where was everyone, this is a super restaurant and deserved to have more people in it. Saying that we had a wonderful meal and the waitress was so friendly and helpful. We got a bit tangled in the one way traffic but found our way in the end. Good food, excellently cooked and presented a must place it visit.

This Oriental English Pub is a pleasant mixture of Asian and English menus. We were served by the nicest people you could wish to meet and the dished for our group of six were all beautifully served and delicious. With such a friendly atmosphere and choice of dishes I would love to come back.

This is such a nice restaurant. Its a bit pricey but totally worth it. The owner is absolutely lovely. Staff are very attentive. Food is amazing especially the prawn starter!

My mum regularly stays at the Bath House when she comes up to visit us and we have now eaten at the restaurant on a number of occasions. I have to say that after 4 meals there within the last year - the latest being two weeks ago - they have never failed to deliver on both the quality and service. The food is delicious and they clearly take a lot of pride in the preparation and presentation.
