We ordered 50 suppers take away for a family celebration. Quality outstanding at reasonable price and excellent service from the friendly and generous barracuda team. Highly recommend you support this local chippy particularly if you want gluten free

I had been in this restaurant on a weekend with waitress service which was very good. This week went on a week day and was upset with the service they got my food wrong and when asked no lemon they put a large wedge on my plate then just took it off infront of me. Not good as I have alleges. The food itself is very good

Went a few weeks back, it is under new management who are much friendlier than previous owners, food very nice also so will visit again.

We decided to try the fish n chips here for the first time this evening and were very impressed with the quality, not greasy , everything fresh and crispy ,as it should be. Most important thing of all it was very tasty , we shall be back .

Food is beautiful and the new owners are so welcoming and helpful. I really do recommend this. We have done takeaway, but will definitely eat in when we get a chance as such a nice and fun atmosphere.

Got a takeaway from barracuda it’s new owners …they are so friendly in there and really good with the kids always having a laugh and a joke . The food is banging !!! The chips are so good proper chips not had them like that in yrs and the curry sauce is divine not lumpy smooth

Under new ownership, but nothing has changed. Sausage tepid, Regular chips is a very small portion. Pie cold. It won’t be around for too long. The Codfather by far the best in Upminster.

W have been coming here since it re opened this year . We have a 25 mile round trip to visit but it is soooo worth it . Tonight we had Haddock , cod and steak and kidney pudding . A beautiful mixed salad and mushy peas . Everything was perfect . Amazing fish ( not watery and greasy like some other places) the staff are all fantastic, friendly and ready to chat . If you haven’t tried it . Give it a go , I’m sure you won’t be disappointed .

Great that they do gluten free and take cross contamination seriously. The cod, battered sausage and chips were all amazing, I’m glad there’s a great local GF place that caters because it’s hard to find. Portions are very generous in general, highly highly recommend, GF or not!

Absolutely fantastic! Hands down the best fish and chips I’ve had in a long time. The fish was fresh and perfectly cooked, with a crispy golden batter that wasn’t too greasy. The chips were thick-cut, fluffy on the inside, and just the right amount of crunchy. I also loved the mushy peas—classic and delicious! Attended early evening. Wife and I both had large haddock and chips. Batter was light and crisp and everything perfectly cooked. Staff were lovely. Would definitely visit again

I'm very picky about my chip shops but I felt compelled to leave a review at Barracudas. The fish was tasty (fell off the fork) and the chips were delicious. Service was amazing, good portion size. Best chippy in town.

Always stop here usually to pick up a meal for the whole family but after nipping in for a snack and being told I can't use the toilet after ordering because it's for restaurant users only I won't be back ever again.

Ended up popping in quickly to get a portion of chips to go and it was at the end of the night so bound to not get the freshest chips. I wouldn’t normally write a review for some thing like this but on Saturday evening whilst I was waiting for my chips the staff were spoken to so rudely. I assume it was the manager speaking to the 2 young servers about the public using the toilet but it just wasn’t necessary for everyone to hear. I hope she apologised to them because I definitely wouldn’t want to be working with her.

First visit to this chippy last week and I wouldn't return, I dined in and waited ages for our food, I found dead flies in the onion vinegar bottle and the mayo sachets given to us with our food were off / ve Best before dates were Oct 2023 ☹️🤢 The only thing decent was the Cod !

I was extremely disappointed with my order tonight. I rang to place a large order (£170) at 5pm as the shop opened, for collection at 6.45. I arrived at the shop at exactly 6.45 to collect my order. The main part of the order was sitting boxed up in the warming cabinet when I arrived and at 7.10 I was told they were waiting on chips. I finally left the shop at 7.18 with my order. The fish was extremely dry where it had been sitting waiting for so long. Everyone was very disappointed with their order. The excuse for keeping me waiting was they had had a rush of orders! Not good enough as I placed my order before those that they had served before me as I had somewhere to be at a certain time. No compensation was offered. Very poor!

Disgusting. Sorry but it was awful. Greasy, fish was bitty oil old hence the overly brown crispy oil chips. Better off going to Alex’s in brentwood. If I could be bothered I’d go for a refund.

Tried this Fish and Chip shop as always looked generally busy when passing on a Friday evening. Staff were very attentive and the restaurant area was very clean. The only downside I would say is that it is very pricey, we had Saveloy and chips twice which came to £23.90 and a can of drink which was an extortionate £3.00. Wow £26.90 - Definitely wont be returning!!

a customer complained that the chips were not properly cooked and hard in the middle. The young waitress went off and presumably told the manager and came back saying that there was nothing wrong with the chips. She explained they were different as they were dried. She asked the waitress if the chips could be replaced and she went off again and came back saying that the manger had said no. The woman left most of the chips. S he asked if the cost of the chips could be deducted from the bill and again the waitress came back saying the manager said no. A little later as I was leaving the customer was in the shop area and the manager was shouting at her and being abusive. The managers behaviour was appalling. he had not bothered to go into the restaurant and try the chips or talk to the customer and to then abuse her and all this over a portion of chips. i will not go there again and i presume the customer will not either.

Good fish and chips, cooked to order so it's always fresh and hot, but you'll wait 20 mins or more. Upminster Prices ( if you know, you'll know )

A great mid week out dinner. Piping hot food. Large portions to boot. An attentive server who ensured we were well taken care of.

Portions are tiny for the price. Overall just really not worth it, pie was dry and scampi were ok (the sad thing is you can get similar or better quality just airfrying frozen). Hugely disappointed.

So disappointed. Four of us waited 50 mins for fish & chips, when we enquired they forgot to place the order. They were walking passed us all the time and it wasn’t even very busy (guessing 6 other people eating) We couldn’t wait any longer as it was going to make us late for our next engagement. When one of us suggested shouldn’t we pay for the drinks we was told “well you have drunk them” ! they then said they would not charge us for one of the drinks (wow) Bill came to £13.50 (we had 1 small bottle of Stella (£4.50) 1xpint draft beer, 1xpint shandy) how they got to £13.50 ?? Never again for me !

Had a lovely meal here last night I chose grilled skate which was cooked absolutely perfectly, such a large piece of fish it was delicious, as were the chips Staff very friendly and helpful The restaurant is nicely decorated and had a cosy feel to it Would definitely recommend 😊

Great fish and chips restaurant located just outside the train station. Service was friendly, fast and efficient. Salt and Vinegar is self serving which I personally prefer as I get control but I imagine that they would do it for you if you asked. Card Payment requires minimum £5 which is how much you would probably spend on average but be warned that a large chips is £4.80 - just short of the card minimum.

Well cooked fish by and chips. The batter was nice and crispy and not greasy. The fish was very fresh and flaked perfectly. Chips were amazing as well and not squashed up. Picked up and drove home and it had kept its taste and freshness. Best chippy I've had in a while.

So it was great. Beautiful people, very good food, cleanliness and lots of smiles. We will definitely come back, to taste other types of food.

I really liked this fish bar. Service was great. Food was great and the atmosphere perfect for a family (couples seemed to be having a good time as well). Clean and friendly. The waiter really did charm our group. We shall be back soon.

Food was delicious for a reasonably large order. Everything was fresh and made to order as soon as they opened on a saturday afternoon.

we usually have a takeaway from here but tried the sit down this time , we had a superb dinning experience last night , the young waiter was absolutely brilliant , very helpful , polite and a true professional . highly recommend the restaurant and the takeaway too .

I just went to grab a bite to eat for my night shift, they thanked me for my service (I'm a carer) and offered to also give some food for my staff members who will be with me tonight (new-years eve and day). The gave me an absolute tonne of food. I'm on my way now and I'm certain my staff are going to love this. Thank you for your generosity. The last two years as a carer haven't been easy, but things like this greatly means a lot. Have a happy new year and it was a pleasure to meet you all.

I dislike having to write a negative review but I feel I must warn other customers. I've been here before with family and the food was always exceptional although service a little ropey (lots of items not available, using lockdown as the excuse even now, abrupt about closing time etc). Today however took service to new lows. I was offered a "lunchtime special" with tea for £9.50 - directed to it in the menu by the waiter, as an alternative to standard fish and chips for £12.50. Sounded like a good deal but when the dish came I was disappointed to see the size of it (pictured, after one bite from corner). The fish was not the standard portion, shorter and also thin, basically not a whole piece of cod, probably about 50% of the normal cod they give. After taking one bite, I knew I would not be satisfied and so found a staff (who turned out to be chef) to ask if I could have another piece of cod (which I was totally prepared to pay for). Instead this chef asked me, in accusatory way, didn't I think it was a good offer. I said, frankly, no I didn't. Then he launched into a tirade about my being rude and uncivilised. I was genuinely shocked and went back to finish my insubstantial meal. At this point the waiter returned and as I was trying to explain to him what my disatisfaction was about - basically, I felt that the size of the portion should have been explained to me (not that it was up to me to check) and that I was prepared to pay for a bigger fish. Then the chef came into the seating area to interrupt us with an extremely loud voice and basically ordered me out of the restaurant (after I had paid). After having my repeat requests for the manager's name refused, I did leave and felt very close to being manhandled by the chef, who became agressive and abusive (which I recorded). They were so unprofessional they starting making false allegations about my family when we visited before and refused to confirm the manager's name. They all closed ranks and said I was never welcome to return. Of course, I don't ever wish to return after this experience but feel I must at least take it up with the manager and share my deeply unpleasant experience with others here.

My husband bought cod and chips tonight to take away. Other people were in front of him and were obviously waiting for theirs to be cooked. My husband however was served immediately, much to his surprise, but they just "happened to have a piece of cod ready". He didn't see it until he got home. It was disgusting. The batter was dark brown and had obviously been fried twice. What a rip off. Won't be going there again.

Very disappointed with the take away cod and chips we bought from there last Saturday. The fish was very dry and hard to eat. Didn't enjoy it at all. We have eaten in this restaurant before and found we have waited a very long time for our food to be served. On one occasion the waiter completely forgot to place our order, so this made the wait even longer and they weren't particularly busy. Food has been ok when we have eaten inside, but we must have had the last knockings with the take away as it tasted like it had been kept warm for ages. Not fair to disappoint customers like this.

We always used to get our fish and chips from this restaurant because it was always good. However, on at least the last three occasions, the cod has either been sloppy or dry and tasteless. We will therefore be looking elsewhere for future takeaways.

I go here out of necessity when at work occasionally. Its really hit and miss. They charge an absolute fortune and have no problem serving battered sausages that have been sitting there for ages so the are tough and rubbery. A pot of curry sauce will set you back about £2. For the price they charge I'd expect everything to be perfect and fresh.
