What’s nicer on a sunny day to get done good at the local pub? A short walk to the local pub, food ordered - order lost. Order found but no chips as now time had passed and I think they had turned the frier off. Not to worry we’ll do without - just the lasagne please. A bit of a wait and they arrived - but cold in the middle. Because they’d rushed. Food back for reheating. Food came back very hot now, but garlic bread and salad had suffered from the wait in the heat. Food quality was average at best. Service not good. It would be nice to be able to recommend our local and support the village but it’s not worth the money. UPDATE : my wife and I went again in early October for a meal. Food this time was OK - not great but not bad either. It seems to me that they are trying to do fancy food but not with a great level of skill. Best part was a good salad. Service was good apart from adding extra things to the bill.

Two visits within three days, midweek lunch and Sunday lunch (booking recommended). Excellent service from a young, well trained team. Extensive menu. Well cooked and delightfully presented food on both occasions. Plenty of parking available. Large beer garden. More than a village 'local', so definitely recommended.

Was looking forward to lunch after reading reviews. Andy ordered chicken burger and chips which was lovely. I ordered lasagne which had no bechemel sauce and no pasta just dry mince with a slab of cheese on top. Salad was dry with no dressing. When I told the waitress she was lovely and offered me the menu to choose something else. However by this time, as other tables had been served with burgers whilst we were still waiting (came in after us) we had no more time to wait. All in all not a good experience. Won't rush back....shame.

Was a toss up between smithy pond or here but thought this would be a nicer option ,beer garden was nice with the bouncy dome but should have gone smithy ,wouldn't recommend the sandwich options especially the katsu and chicken tikka ,they use the cheapest bread and slop the toppings on, really stoggy and gross ,chips at an extra £3 were old looking potato wedges (black) ,not what I envisioned when I ordered and for over £10 will never order again :(

I had Sunday roast. The vegetables were awful. Frozen veg were dried up, carrots had been roasted but were so full of oil that they were soggy. Mash potatoe tasted powdery. Yorkshire pud, roast potatoes and roast beef were the only edible parts of the meal. Other family members had salads which they enjoyed but it came with garlic bread ,unfortunately it was so dry , it was more like garlic crisps. Lovely clean place, great outdoor area with seating ,swings and slides etc. Just pity the food was poor quality.

Sunday lunch with family who were visiting from Bristol and don't have a village pub that also serves excellent food. They absolutely loved it, and could not believe the choice of food and drinks available, including those with dietary requirements. They loved the atmosphere and were impressed by the 'super-friendly' and knowledgeable staff, particularly Fallon and Bev who looked after us during our visit. Food, as always, was excellent - thank you to the Sunday kitchen crew. They're coming back next year just to visit the Barley Mow 😀

Been here a few times in the last month; and the same patterns have emerged. The staff are very kind; and the new owners have done well over the last year revamping the beer garden and the menus. However, help in the kitchen is needed as it takes far too long to get food out to the tables. For pub grub; you shouldn’t have to wait over an hour for your food to get to the table; especially when the pub is half-full. Sadly, this isn’t a one-off as it’s happened both times we’ve been there the last month. If they fix that, however, then this place is a bit of a gem!

Date of visit 21st February 2024. I decided to take my 83 year old mum out for tea, as we are local we decided to try the Barley Mow after seeing positive reviews. This venue was considered against others in the vicinity, a couple of which also have Wednesday night Pie night (and lovely pies they are too – if you’re local you’ll know the ones that I mean!) and a couple of other nearby venues that were currently offering 30% discount on main meals. With hospitality suffering, you can see it was a considered decision and taken to do our bit for the nearby public house. I telephoned at 13.48 to book a table for two at 6pm. I was told we could get a table and confirmed my name and telephone number to book. We arrived at 6pm and there was a 60th birthday party. A man outside the door asked if we'd booked and I said yes I'd phoned in the afternoon, he said "for two?", as a confirmation, I said yes and he said that we were in a table round the corner in the small room near the kitchen door. We sat down and waited. I then asked a waitress for the menu. She brought it and asked if I wanted to order drinks. We ordered two half pints of bitter shandy and I enquired if it was Pie Night and if that deal was on. She confirmed that it was and told me that the choice of pies was Steak. Steak and Stilton, Steak and mushroom and Chicken and mushroom. After looking at the menu we chose to order the fish and chips which was about £16 The waitress took our order and we continued to chat and have our drink. The table next to us was then taken up with a couple with a large dog. The dog was then sat beside our table. Now the dog was well behaved, mainly because he was so unhappy at the noise (the owners told us) At 6.35 the waitress came out to tell us that there wasn't any fish this evening and asked if we would like the menu back to order something else. After a quick look and an exchange between us we decided not to order anything else as nothing really appealed and by now we were becoming more disgruntled with things. I informed the waitress that we weren't going to bother and that I would just pay for the drinks. After getting the dog moved to get my 83 year old mum out from her seat I went to the bar to pay. It was extremely busy with the 60th birthday party, but I was let into the bar to wait for a staff member to sort out taking payment. The waitress was stood beside me so I asked her if there was only the one person behind the bar and if he was the only person who could take payment for the drinks that we had already had. She said that it was as the other staff member was on a break. The queue to get served was all around the bar, after all it was a busy 60th birthday party. I then heard the kitchen bell and the waitress went back to the kitchen. After a few more minutes I got to pay the drink bill. £4.30. As I was handing over the money, the waitress tapped my shoulder and said “the fish has just been delivered so you can have the fish now if you wanted?” Now I’m no expert but would your fish be delivered at 6.45pm and wouldn’t it then take time to prepare for service? I said no thanks it’s ok. My mum doesn’t like to eat too late and we had been there 50 minutes already. My main issues are - Why wasn’t the party mentioned when I telephoned so I was aware and could have decided if that was the environment I wanted to take my mum too. Did the fish really get delivered at 6.45pm? To conclude, I can’t comment on the food at the Barley Mow because I didn’t actually get to eat anything, would I go again? No.

Been a few times recently and cannot fault the food or service. Sunday lunch a couple of months ago was the best pub roast I've had in a long time. Had the Halloumi flatbread a few weeks ago and that was delicious. Last night had a southern fried chicken burger and wasn't expecting much tbh but that was the best I've ever had. Chips are home cooked and freshly good. Last night it was so busy and a fab atmosphere. The staff are all so helpful. Maybe it’s changed since the end of summer when we visited judging by recent reviews but it felt like this was a huge opportunity missed, lots of advertisement on our Facebook page saying about new ownership and that it was now open , we went with some friends for an evening meal , beer on offer was really poor think the best to offer was stellar so decided to go alcohol free for the evening , ordered the chicken burger and it felt like a homemade meal id rustle up in a fridge freezer raid, really plain , nothing special with a cheap bun and some chips on the side , it’s a great location at the heart of the village and could and should be a real competitor to hunloke but our experience was sadly a poor one , the recent photos of the food do however look good so may be tempted one day to give it another go

I went with my 2 autistic sons. We ordered a PLAIN burger, a child's Sunday dinner (though this was still the same size as an adults, minus 1 roast potato) and an adults roast dinner. Waited over half an hour for the meal to arrive luke warm, and tasteless. The burger came out with tomato, lettuce and sauce on the cob. I sent it back asking again for a plain burger, it then came back with the burger AND the sauce, sent it back again, only for it to come back as a plain BURNT burger..! Apparently the child's roast dinner couldn't be made smaller as it was literally half a roast chicken- so therefore not really a child size portion. I ordered 2 pints iced water and a pint of soda water, all to come out as half pints. No-one asked if the meal was OK, not during the meal or when we paid. The table was set for 4 people but was only big enough for 2 people, very cramped for 3 people. The dining area was small for dining in. No atmosphere. The waitress was pleasant enough but overall, a disaster. We won't be going back and I definitely wouldn't recommend it. Paid good money for very below par food. I also notice that the majority of negative reviews don't get any kind of response..!! Says alot about the place. You need to own these negative reviews as they're just as important as the positive reviews..!

Four of us and our dog visited this lovely pub yesterday. The staff, the food, the decor were all lovely. Would 100% recommend it and we will definitely visit again.

Good value sunday lunch. The roast beef was really tender. Good selection of vegetables but not quite enough mashed potato. Service was very good tho and would recommend

Me and mate had chips and they was the worst I have ever had they also don’t provide salt and vinegar and when they put it on for you,you have to get a stamp in your ration book also vile customer service and they block the inside bit so u have to wait in the rain also it’s greasier than kfc they don’t wear hair nets leaving you food infested with human hair very disappointed and will never be returning 😡😡

On entering we were met by the very friendly staff who took us to our table(booking in advance is a must). I chose the regular Steak, ale and mushroom pie which was served with mash, broccoli and carrots. The gravy I must say was delicious and complemented the meal perfectly. This portion of pie was huge and many guests around me doubted I'd finish it(I did!) I can thoroughly recommend a visit to this cafè with the friendly atmosphere and tasty fayre.

Ordered a pie to take out and they charged me 40p to heat it up, the pie was ok but I've never ever been charged for warming any food before, the pie wasn't good enough to warrant the extra charge

Lovely No fireworks bonfire event. We were expecting a little more from the light show. It was a short film/ different lights protected onto the wall. But my daughter enjoyed doing the craft and walking around the fairy garden!
