Following a recommendation that this café serves the best toast in South Wales, my wife and I called for a first time visit on Feb 20th. The secret of successful toast: thick hand cut FRESH white bread served hot with plenty of salty butter by extremely friendly staff. Batista's has it all. Friendly gathering of locals who the staff seemed to know most as regulars. Coffee not bad either. Hope the landlord fixes the leak soon?

Great menu with something for everyone. All proper home cooked dishes. I had the roast turkey dinner and it was fine but swimming in gravy. I’ve also tried the hot meat baguettes on previous visits and they are very tasty. Efficient service and good value for money.

Had the cottage pie peas and gravy and a can of sptite for £6.65 . Ok not expensive but very bland and forgettable. Peas were fine but the cottage pie was virtually all potato with little else . I have eaten better for similar prices elsewhere in town . Until you actually get pie and not just the mash but I won’t be back .

A decent clean friendly place for lunch.Quick service and a good choice on the menu but the hot food loses on the vegetable score, mushy peas and mash are always the choice and not very interesting. It really isn’t as good as other local restaurants do it better.

I'm a regular to the cafe & town centre & rate this as the #1 Cafe there. All lovely home made meals and the ladies who own/run the cafe are very lovely and helpful! They'll get to know you and have clear good relationships with their regulars and new customers. Would reccomend to anyone who's in the town centre and looking for a drink or food.

Have visited many times and have always found staff exceptionally friendly and food very wholesome. No difference on this occasion, with excellent with omelette and home made rice pudding. What I was disappointed with was being charged 45p for a small pot of jam to go with the rice.Come on guys, it should have been free, £1.90 for the pudding should cover the costs. But to then charge 45p - daylight robbery!

Having been forced from their prime central area of Afan Town Centre by a large conglomerate they did not sit on their Loral's. Always full of people who return and return. The staff are very helpful and the food is good old fashioned food that mam or gran would have made. Worth a try at least once you can then decide yourself. I think you would be pleasantly surprised.

I was bitterly disappointed with the absolutely abysmal Chicken Curry & Rice that I had for my lunch today. The chicken had clearly had no contact with the grainy, ready made curry sauce prior to it being stirred in. A curry implies that the whole thing would have been cooked together. The chicken had obviously come from one of those frozen packets of chicken strips one could buy from somewhere like Farm Foods.

This place a little gem, what a fabulous cafe set in the Aberavon shopping centre. The Cafe is family run and employ local staff from around the area. I love to stop and have a catch up and some lunch at Barista's the staff as so friendly and helpful, The food is fantastic and cater for everyones needs. Nothing is to much trouble and they will even make you something even if they don't normally do it..What a wonderful friendly cafe to have in the centre. Makes you want to stay and shop more in the centre not just eat and run. A credit to all the staff keep up the good work, a lovely place like this is not easily found with all the major brands about, this is just as good a home cooked meals at such affordable prices .

One of the best cafe,s in Port Talbot , good food , fast service and brilliant service . I am in here a lot and it never fails to please , the more I go the more I like it . Lovely take away pasty and many attractive features . One highlight is the quality of the staff , and too me that is a huge thing in it,s favour , second is speed of service as I have never waited long . And last is the food as I have never had a bad meal there , that means a lot . So overall I cannot fault it , I am a wheelchair user and they go out of their way to find a space for me . When you finish your food and cuppa they do not elbow you out .

Very disappointing visit today. Waited ages for our meal. Two tables who were served after us received their meals first. We ended up having to ask for our meal to be packed to go with us as we waited too long. Upon checking our order we found we hade received the wrong item. We then asked for a refund which was refused. We always make this cafe our first stop, but after today we will not be returning.

A relative of mine choses to use this cafe when I visit, so I do not use the facilities through choice. The service is slow, ignorant and poor with the only passion present being the one to take your money. A weak cup of tea, bitter hot chocolate or thimble of coffee are the only things I have sampled from the menu and all have been an utter disappointment. I have never been acknowledged, made to feel welcome or even addressed at the till. I am often served by the female managers/owners and both are as yet to address me, thank me or even so much as smile. I would avoid at all costs as there are some lovely cafes on Station Road which are friendlier, better value and provide a better quality product without a side of resentment from the staff.

My mother and I prefer to Eat here each time We go into the town. I am predictable and have the homemade pasty(best I have tasted) with coleslaw. My mother loves the pasty with gravy. It's nice pleasant place to sit and eat. It's clean, service is excellent. Tables cleared quickly. Staff very helpful. Personally think it's the safest and cleanest place to eat Egan I go into town. None of the other cafés on par. Barista maintains same standard, service and quality of food. You get good portion sizes compared to other cafés. Great value for money. Highly recommend eating here. Gas 5 hygiene rating that's important to need.

I have visited this coffee shop many times and have to write this review as I am saddened by comments made. I always find the staff are happy, friendly and will do anything to assist you. This is a very popular coffee shop , in a class of its own with the best location in the shopping centre and the best coffee. You do sometimes have to wait for a table, but staff are on top of making sure you seated and served quickly, and the wait if any is worth it. They always present their food well, and whenever I have eaten there, I have found my food to be enjoyable, but most importantly warm, and most certainly fresh. I am also more than positive should I ever not be happy and I was to inform them they would deal with it instantly and professionally. I would recommend you try this for yourself and make your own decision, not rely on what seems like very biased and very unfair untrue comments which I can say from my experiences.

Firstly I would like to say how amazing and welcoming the staff are.. No matter how busy they are they will ALWAYS make you feel welcome and can never do enough for you ! Baristas has got to be the cleanest of cafes I have ever been in, I am a regular customer and not once have I found this place to be dirty. Tables are always cleared and wiped as soon as the table becomes vacant ensuring that the next customer can relax on a clean table. The food is always consistent and well presented .. The homemade dishes such as lasagne cottage pie cheese pie and pasty are made to the best of standards ( no scrimping)...you can taste that all food is fresh and nothing frozen! Me and my mother come to this cafe every week and not once have we had a bad meal ! Lastly I would like to say a massive thank you to all the staff as they really do make this place what it is ! After reading previous comment I could not disagree anymore !!! As being a regular to this little gem I can assure you, that half of that comment is not true...don't make judgements when you don't know the facts I.e frozen veg. Please do not let that comment put you off from going there !!! as I have said you will not be disappointed .. BEST COFFEE SHOP IN TOWN !!!

I have commented before. However, in all fairness it is a very busy cafe. Service is good. Some staff get little mixed up with table orders. Portion sizes are never consistent yet pay same price. Now that is annoying. Some if the food that is said to be homemade those are very good. However, the food like pasty, cheeses pie etc are always cold in the middle. Potatoes are always lumpy except in pasty pie. You rarely get full pot of tea! Tried dinners of few types but really hit and miss. Hate frozen mixed veg.. Staff are there to serve and you feel that there is no sense of welcome you sometimes get the odd smile. In spite of all the above it's the cleanest, busiest and food is far more edible than any other cafe in port talbot town inside or out!!

Having been to the cafe a few times before and always had a pleasant experience I was in town and my tiny baby needed feeding. Not wanting to just BF anywhere I asked the manager could I feed my baby in a discreet corner of the seating area (not intending to purchase anything as would only be a few minutes) and the lovely lady said yes. Not many places would allow you to do that without purchasing anything, a very kind thing to do. I will recommend this place to all my BF friends as BF friendly :) thanks again!

Plus point most homemade, example pasty pie, usually cold in the centre...which I find off putting. Coleslaw is lovely flavour but poorly prepared ingredients, you get huge clumps of cabbage etc....However, clearly there is lot of use of micro waves....A huge NO NO.....mixed veg, really? And served with parsley sauce dinner...not acceptable. Lots of food is not warned rich rough, which is a shame. Have to say staff are as miserable as sin...not one smile amongst them. The plus is that tables are cleared and clean quickly and appropriately, It is popular and I would certainly eat there again, this is just constructive criticism. Too much on the menu allows food to pretty hit and miss prep and quality wise. Prices are fine.

We quite often go to the Aberafan Shopping Centre when it's raining as the multi-storey car park takes us directly to the shopping centre. We always visit Barista's for a coffee and perhaps some toast or toasted teacake if it's in the morning but if we are there at lunchtime we will have something more substantial. There is a good range of food on offer, plated dinner, jacket potatoes, toasted sandwiches, corned beef pie, salads and daily specials, I must have missed out some items but this is all the sort of meals we have. It can be very busy and tables not always available at lunchtime but when a place is always busy it is a good sign of regular local customers.

Whenever I go shopping with my mother in town we always stop for lunch at Barista's, especially if the weather is not so good. This lovely little cafe is situated in the middle of Port Talbot Shopping Centre, which makes it an ideal place for shoppers to have a bite to eat or just a coffee. We have had their Cheese, Leek and Potato Pie or Toasted Sandwiches on a number of occasions, and these are absolutely delicious. They also serve lovely ice cream sundaes. For a day time cafe the prices are a little high for what you get, but the atmosphere here is lovely, as you can sit and watch all the activity taking place in the middle of the Shopping Centre, especially if there are any special entertainment events taking place.Be warned, it can get very busy here during lunch time and you may have to wait a while for a table to become available.

First impressions were that it was very quiet for a Friday evening. Not 1 person in Bar and just 3 tables in the restaurant (9 people). Menu was completely different online and we were advised it was new management. Seemed a very Basic menu. Ordered 2 Gammon, 1 Regular Burger & 1 Lamb Burger. Onion rings. Cheese garlic bread. Asked the waitresses if there was any sauce on the Lamb Burger her reply was 'No'. Advised that I could have 'No sauce whatsoever' . Her reply 'I will make sure' Food came and all looked nice. Gammon very undercooked. Went to cut Lamb burger in half to pick up and sauce absolutely oozed out. Not slightly but lots. Showed the waitress who said she was very sorry and would deal with it. Meal was back within minutes. Same burger as previously as the original cut was still there. THE CHEF HAD WIPED THE SAUCE OFF THE BURGER and put it in a fresh roll. Had to send it back as I'm not able to eat red sauce/relish ect. All food was left as the others were not even asked if there food was ok and it upset the whole table. Asked to speak to the manager and was advised he was busy. When we asked for the bill and advised we wouldn't be paying for the burger he appeared. Unfortunately he couldn't' see what was wrong with the situation. Didn't understand that wiping the sauce off was an issue and could have made me very Ill. Total bill £69.

Very nice pub, the staff were excellent and a lovely relaxed atmosphere. So five stars there. The food was average pub grub and lacked the extra attention needed for an evening meal, at £17 for a pie and chips I was not impressed, so, three stars there, drinks expensive, I can understand why it is a brewery-owned pub, the people running it are great though.

Good place for coffee. Can be noisy when busy due to the lower ceilings in part of the space. Cake marked as gluten free does have 'may contain' so not suitable for those diagnosed coeliac.
