My family visited Barge East for dinner .We were seated outside on the Barge and it was just great. The staff were great and the food was excellent. What a great place for something different and very close to the Abba Voyage venue. We had a slight problem with the bill which in my opinion was handled very professionally and quickly by the staff which resulted in a refund onto my credit card. For me this says a lot about the staff and I thank them for dealing with it so quickly. Best in class customer service!

What a lovely way to finish our trip to the Athletics Meet at the Olympic Stadium. Beautifully cooked Pork T-Bone from the specials board and beautifully cooked shorthorn beef. All made better by our wonderful server Flo. I was just puzzled as to why you’d run out of the only carb option on your sides menu at 5pm on a Saturday? Gets super busy so pre-book and be prepared to be wowed! Wonderful food, awesome staff, fantastic setting and a lovely ambience.

We’d booked an inside table for 8 people on the barge, for the Sunday roast set menu, and it was a brilliant experience. We were dressed in costume ready for the ABBA Arena event and all the staff really got into the spirit of things and matched our high energy! The food was excellent, house wine was equally good, and we were just a short walk along the canal to the ABBA venue. Would highly recommend to all. Thank you.

Booked here a few times and was never able to get a table in the garden and I asked for a non EURO24 table and got one right in front of the screen. We also had to queue for around 30 minutes each time to get drinks… I love the location and spot but most of my experiences there were not enjoyable and they should really sort out how they organize and serve at the bar (maybe stop doing cocktails if the bar is full to avoid increasing the waiting time?)

What a find!! We were in the area for Abba Voyage and were lucky enough to find The Barge East for our pre show dinner. We loved the excellent quality and presentation of the food. The flavour of the foraged leaves was spectacular. They didn't just say that their ingredients were carefully chosen - it was abundantly evident in the flavour too. My sister had the salmon starter and I had the asparagus with dandelion leaves. Both delicious. For mains we both chose the steak which was tender, well cooked and very tasty. Interesting twist on a Negroni cocktail too with Cynar instead of Campari - keeping the Italian flavour of the cocktail but giving it a new take. Lovely! The staff were friendly and attentive. The location was great - very easy to find from Hackney Wick station and yet felt away from the madding crowd. Highly recommend and we will make a point of visiting again on our next rip to London. Best meal we have had in ages in a restaurant previously unknown to us. Thanks to all.

We had Barge East booked for a while and we were looking forward to it but I can honestly say it was one of the worst restaurant experiences I’ve ever had, incredibly disappointing. The service was slow and inattentive, we must have waited 15 minutes for someone to take our drinks order. At one point we were asked if we’d like to see the dessert menu before we’d even had our mains and they took so long another waiter offered us some little crackers while we waited, as if that made up for it. The food was ok but the portions were small, my fish was undercooked and then they put the same sauce on my main so it felt like the same meal. Needless to say I will not be going again!

The best part of my experience was the atmosphere, music and the fantastic service. The roast dinner exceeded my expectations. I had the “Trio of Roasts and Selection of Sauces” served with duck fat roasted potatoes, honey roasted miso carrots, seasonal greens and Yorkshire pudding. The Yorkshire pudding was enormous and so tasty. I’m still thinking about the delicious roast potatoes, they were fluffy inside and crunchy on the outside. For starters I had Fowey Mussel Escabeche with Salt & Vinegar Crisps. Perfect service from all, and thank you to Tess for the great service.

On walking up the barge looks a bit dated on the outside but quite pleasantly surprised on the inside. Menu reasonably varied and would cater for most. I booked as going to the Abba concert and looked at the many good reviews. By coincidence my partner and my self ordered the same starters and mains. As you can see from the pictures both courses were absolutely swimming in oil. When brought to the attention of the young lady serving the reply was I'll let the chef know. I presume he would already know as he would be the one plating up. No other course of action was mentioned at all. Paid up including the 12.5 % service charge as this would afford me to leave an honest and unbiased review. See attached images.

... I'm in. I only found out about the "Monday Roast" the day before, and thought it would be a great way to finish off my easter weekend. I had booked for an early table for the day, and we were the only customers there for a while, so service was top notch. After a short wait, lunch turned up, and it looked good. Trio of roasts, with each meat cooked beautifully. Roast Potatoes were soft on the inside, and nicely crispy on the outside. Veg was a great selection, and the crispy kale was to die for. Gravy was decent too (not thin jus, but gravy!) All in all, a solid roast. The only slight downside was the Yorkshire wasn't the best, but that didn't remove from the score.

Found this restaurant after a short walk from Abba Voyage. Good reviews were accurate - there are only 10 tables in a small space but the food served, service and atmosphere were all 5 star. Even though we were allocated 2 hrs 10 minutes, we finished on time and with no pressure from the staff. And in addition, for a London restaurant, this was good value.

We booked an ABBA Voyage trip and wanted somewhere to disappear to afterwards. A 15 minute walk away is the atmospheric Barge, in the shadow of the West Han stadium you step down into this small, wood clad, full of history old barge originally from Holland. The waiting staff were friendly, happy to advise, and the food was excellent. A little pricey but worth it for the quality and the experience. A wine list with carafes (a nice touch for a driver) and a desert of cheese and Eccles cake to follow some amazing mackerel and rump steak this was a visit to remember.

Fabulous evening! Recommended by a Hackney Wick local so travelled over to this part of London with which I am unfamiliar to be greeted by a gastronomic delight. Unusual but delicious cocktails featuring local fruits, tasty starters and delicious main courses with as much local ingredients as possible, beautifully presented and cooked to perfection. Quaint, cosy atmosphere and despite the tight space we didn't;t feel crowded. Looking forward to a return visit in the summer.

Barge East was perfectly positioned for our pre-ABBA Voyage dinner which is why we booked. However, on arrival we were delighted to find it had much more to offer than being conveniently situated. The warm welcome and friendly service, coupled with an excellent menu choice and delicious wines to accompany, all helped to make this a fabulous experience - one not to be kept just for convenience. The ambience aboard Barge East is fab and talking with the staff about their ethos regarding sustainability and zero waste all added to our evening. I have no hesitation in awarding 5* rating and would encourage everyone to visit. Thank you.

Good atmosphere with friendly staff and great entertainment. Was a modern twist tasting menu of Scottish food. Portions large for a tasting menu and food indescribable: Cullen skink was a slab of fish with sauce and chips on the side. Haggis dry with no whisky gravy. Vegan Haggis like an extremely dry crumb sprinkled over tatties and neeps. Tablet served with ice cream (would normally be on the side with coffee in place of mints) Deep fried mars bar was a triangle of chocolate tort, caramel ice cream and a pile of tasteless fried battter. I was given no tablet but two cranachan: one made with freeze dried raspberry granola and the other Raspberry couli, was unsure which one was Vegan. (No fresh raspberries) Vegan alternative to Cullen skink was undercooked vegetables swimming in a vinegar liqour. Due to lighting and vinegar unsure what vegetables apart from leek. No explanation by staff of what was being placed in front of you. Overall great night let down by poor food.

Visiting London for 2 nights for my Mothers 70th Birthday and to see Abba Voyage. I choose this restaurant based on good reviews and the fact that it is close to our hotel. I contacted the restaurant prior to reservation asking if they could pop a candle in my mother’s dessert or similar, my communication was replied to quickly and I was told a note would be put to the booking. The venue is different and cosy but to be honest a little tired in comparison to the pictures. The food was beautifully presented and beautiful flavours but it wasn’t overly hot, warm at best. The weather outside today is freezing but so was the inside of Barge East. I had to put my coat back on after being there a short while as I was so cold. The service started well and whilst the staff were all friendly, we seemed to struggle a little to get the waiters attention to order dessert and get the bill. I guess with a 12.5% service charge automatically added to the bill, the waiting staff arent worried about earning tips. When we received our dessert, no little candle or anything else. This would have been a small gesture my mother would have loved! And something most restaurants and more than happy to do. All rather disappointing for what I had hoped to be a special meal.

We came for Sunday lunch after visiting the Horizons of Khufu virtual experience in Westfield and wanted somewhere a little different. So why not a barge! We started with a cocktail outside - it was a very cold day and the heaters were just not warming us at all, but the overall vibe was lively and we wished that we could have stayed out in the cold for longer. We were very happy to move to the cozy barge when our table was ready. The space is very small, but we didn't feel cramped or intruded by our neighboring tables. The background music was fun and lively and helped create a good atmosphere. The whole team were really friendly and helpful, but a special mention to Fraser the Scot!. All the food was REALLY good. The roast beef was delightfully pink and juicy and the porchetta perfectly cooked with a crispy surround. The onion tarte tatin looked amazing - properly caramelised! We ordered additional sides of Chile Brussel sprouts, little mouthfuls of deliciousness and the Leek gratin was gooey and cheesy, exactly the comfort food you need on a cold day! We didn't have room for dessert (which was a shame) as these are not little portions. I think I had at least 6 crispy, fluffy on the inside roast potatoes on my plate, but only ate a couple as everything else was just too good to be missed! This was one of my favourite finds, and we will be back whenever we are in the area again.

We visited because it’s one of the only options within walking range of the ABBA Voyage show, but despite having the read the good reviews, we were still very positively surprised. This place is worth the commute from central London for the dining experience itself,...

Excellent, relaxed venue on the river, we stayed on the riverbank but there is a converted Dutch barge next door. Great beers and burgers. Fantastic spot if you are going to an event at the 5 minute walk London Stadium nearby. And did I say...

Booked a table 10 days ago. Arrived to find 45 min wait for food, then followed up by the news they had accepted two large walk-ins and were no longer serving food. Appalling service. Do not touch.

I have ordered from The Hogless Roast for the last few years and I am never disappointed, as the food is consistently great quality and delicious. I’ve also introduced a few non-vegan friends and family members to their food and all of them have commented to the same effect. The menu is also varied and caters to different tastes, meaning it has been a great choice for myself and on evenings when I’ve had guests around for food.
