I ordered the char siu buns (pulled pork style), which was tasty, but the fries are a little salty

I normally really love Bao Bun, and would sometimes get it as a treat. After my experience today however, I’ll never be setting foot in the Botanic branch again. I ordered the meal deal (2 baos, chips and drink), with one chicken and one beef with garlic aioli toppings, but without the pickled onions included. I had clearly asked for this, however my request was completely ignored. I had only noticed that my food was covered in the **one** thing I asked to not have included after walking 20 minutes home, so I had to go to the shop again to have this fixed. When this was remade, I was given two chicken baos - when I pointed out that my remake was also made incorrectly, the member of staff who took my order for the remake laughed, and barely even mustered a sorry for my time being wasted even further. The staff seemed that they could not have cared less about how I had to make two journeys to the restaurant for my food. If I am going to be charged £15.15 for a meal “deal” and a dip, then my expectation naturally is that it would be made to my specifications and with good customer service? By the time I’d gotten back after this carry on, the rest of my food was cold. I feel completely let down here by this experience.

We don’t live in Belfast anymore but whenever we’re in town around lunch time we love coming here. The Bao buns are amazing but my absolute favourite are the kimchi fries.

Up until our last order in November 2024, we were ardent fans of this outlet but now, the taste, size and quantity is too bad.. I was shocked to see the usual cut cabbage and raddish as "kimchi"andthe fried chicken was just a medium slice of dry chic

Ordered the spicy pho with beef. Genuinely one of the stingiest portions of food I have got for £9.95 in some time. Sprinkle of veg, tiny amount of noodles and next to no beef. I've eaten here before so this was really disappointing.

Absolutely amazing place but over the years the prices went up. This would be fine but the pho was is tiny in comparison. Barely any noodles and basically 6 pieces of meat at most... Hopefully this is adjusted to be as it was before

Wasn't happy, eaten here Abt 20 times in past 3 months, near got enough stamps for a tshirt im such a fan, but the service from the lady is awful, each time I got if she's serving there are bad miscommunication problems, I tip each time each time 15/20%, she's there no thank you bad attitude, think she's European but not happy with that manager needs to have a talk with her felt like asking for my tip back was so bad

I got a Banh Mi and received a free soup with my order. The Banh Mi was very tasty and substantial. I appreciated the complimentary side, but I wasn't particularly keen on the taste. It did grow on me a little. The service is friendly and welcoming. Would highly recommend.

Ordered a bao bun and a pho soup. The quality was good, but in my opinion the portions were slightly small for the price.

Freezing cold on the last two occasions, and noticeably tighter with the portions.. hardly any meat or fries, just padded out with lettuce. Used to be one of my favourite places, sad to see it go down hill.

Ridiculous wait and didn't even have an order taken. 20 mins wait for two in person orders to even be taken. I presume it was to fulfil deliveroo orders but the pace was slow even for that and there were places and equipment not being used.

I went in and asked the man behind the counter to suprise me and it was so gorgeous. Beef rice and chips and idk but it was stunning thanks mate you made my night

We used to get Bao Bun all the time. But we’ve found recently that it has become too expensive given what you get. £40+ for some bao’s, fries and pieces of chicken just isn’t value for money. Unfortunately the fries were pretty lacklustre. The Bao’s were good, they always are. Also paid for a dip but didn’t receive it, and it had been highlighted on the receipt to. (We took that up with Just Eat). I understand that things can be forgotten, but when you pay for something you expect to get it. I understand that given the current climate that restaurants are struggling but it just doesn’t seem the price is worth what you actually get in the end. I mean it’s an extra £4.60 for some extra meat, the Bao’s are always full so where is that extra portion going? Is something else being removed to fit in the extra meat? Just isn’t worth it in the end. Boojum have extra meat, it’s a full portion and doesn’t cost as much as this. Just some constructive feedback from what used to be, loyal customers.

I rarely leave reviews, as my sensitive stomach demands fresh, non-greasy food. However, BaoBun Botanic's Exciting Independent Taiwanese Street Food on Botanic Avenue was exceptional. Each dish felt like a delicate cloud of flavor, remarkably fresh and delicious. The intimate atmosphere, with its cozy tables and immersive music, truly transported me to the streets of Taiwan. BaoBun Botanic is a hidden gem and a must-visit for all.

Food was good the first time I came here, now the second time I’ve come here the quality has deteriorated and the chicken has become very dry. Furthermore, they charge extra for any little thing, I asked for a little tablespoon of chilli’s and they wanted to charge £1 for it.

Ordered a fries box and got Bao, considering fries cost more this oversight is not great. The food was lovely though! So not a total loss.

Always spectacular ✨️ I effing LOVE this place. I've been coming religiously for over 5 years now, and nothing with stop me from getting something delicious from BaoBun when I'm anywhere NEAR the vicinity (sometimes even drive up from Portadown just for a lunch there, like today, for my birthday). I've been vegan for almost 7 years, and this place is HANDS DOWN my favourite place to eat on the entire island of Ireland.

Bao bun is definitely my happy place. Great flavoursome food.

Gonna be honest, this was not Bao bun's strongest day. Unsure whether it was from the delivery guy's car or the food but there was a sickly sweet smell and taste to all items in the order. Also, I ordered a banh mi, and the bread it arrived on was hard as a rock - not crispy, but stale. Extremely disappointing, especially for the price. I usually sing Bao bun's praises but today was certainly an off day.

Gone downhill I think. Not as much meat and only tiny drop of sauce on katsu fries. Poutine fries were the best bit and they gone now anyway, meh :/

so so good! went with friends on our trip to belfast, had very tasty bao buns and fries. the workers were really nice and helpful and the atmosphere was great! if you go, get the kimchi fries i liked them the most!

Food was great as always, it did however spend around 15-20 minutes in transit despite the shop being a five minute walk from my house. Watched the driver go all around Belfast on the map before getting to me, he even made a second stop at the shop and drove off to deliver someone else's order first. So it was cold by the time it got here. JustEat really letting the side down every time, unfortunately.

Delivered very quickly, no complaints :) Big fan of Bao Bun usually and would normally go to the Lisburn Road store and always have great service/food. Ordered from Botanic today as it is closer and basically got an expensive chip with lots of sauce and very little dressing. ordered kimchi fries that basically came without the kimchi - not great value for price

Food was great, so full stars for Bao Bun themselves. I do have to knock points off on the delivery time though, fully justeat's fault - took over half an hour to "assign a driver" and I was super hungry by the time they found one, it would've been faster to walk round and eat in person :') justeat always letting the side down. But as I say, the food itself was great when it finally got delivered! Love a Bao Bun 🥰

The lady was clearly quite angry I turned up 5 minutes before closing time (which I get, but don’t take it out on your customers). The crispy chicken bao buns are actually just a fried chicken nugget (probably from a supermarket) - and it was £11. So. Pretty poor all around tbh.

I really fancied bao, and thought this would be a good place for a snack. The bao itself was lovely, but the ‘char siu pork’ filling was definitely not char siu, more like tasteless pulled pork with red food colouring, and the hoisin sauce on the menu was nowhere to be seen, instead it was ‘hoisin mayo’. Luckily I’m not allergic to mayo ingredients! My husband ordered chicken katsu curry on rice, the server forgot the chicken, and then was offered chicken in curry sauce when he went back to the counter. No katsu chicken in sight. Disappointed in general (also poutine on the menu, but this is discontinued….!) and feels like cultural appropriation.

This is the first time I’ve ever felt the need to review a restaurant twice, but honestly so impressed with them! Every single time the food is flawless, there’s no hassle and it’s been delivered really quickly even though we are slightly further away. I recommend them to everyone! Well done guys!

Bao buns were very cold the meat inside and chips were really soggy We couldn’t eat or enjoy the meal as we planned disappointing

The improved style bag that I thought was more suitable for foreigners was far from what I originally expected. There are a lot of choices to make when ordering, choosing different combinations and sauces, but the sauces don't really match the food. The music in the restaurant is very loud. When ordering, you need to listen carefully to the service staff and answer loudly, which is quite tiring. The price is not cheap, but it is more like a fast food restaurant. You have to clean up after eating.

Circumventing justeat's lack of "edit review" feature by reviewing an earlier order, which was also excellent at the time - anyway, while the order I placed today was initially delivered incorrect, Bao Bun went out of their way to correct the error and provide me with the food I had ordered, as such I'd still thoroughly recommend their food to anyone who was hungry and fancied something interesting and flavourful.

Delivery was great, however I ordered kimchi fries with sriracha and was given kimchi fries with bao bun's "Szechuan" dressing, which includes eggs. Would have been very bad news if I had an allergy, and as it stands was disappointing as I just simply don't *like* that sauce and much prefer sriracha. This rarely happens with bao bun, but :/

We don’t really have many bao bun places like this back in the US. For being a somewhat fast food type of service, these buns were very good! Jackfruit had a lot of flavor, loved the crispness of the tofu, and the sauces only added to the overall flavor of the buns.

Unfortunately the poor rating is due to multiple items missing from our order, and no way for them to send out the missing items. Very disappointed (and hungry).

Bao botanic always does great food. One of the few order-in options I know I can for sure rely on to deliver hot, delicious food with no missing items and in good time. I'd recommend this place to anyone tbh.

Lovely, but I hate to say it, a little overpriced

I have always loved this place. A few times maybe it didn't hit the wow I know and love. But it wouldn't stop me returning, as when on point it is amazing. And so worth it.

I've spent some time in Taiwan, and the bao buns here really bring back memories of this wonderful street food. The meal deals are great, and the bizarre but welcome addition of Canadian poutine is a real treat.

I am frequent eater at Bao Bun in Botanic. The food is amazing, however the service is slow if they have online orders in and do not prioritise customers who are standing in front of them. Apart from that the food is amazing!

Cosy little spot for consistently tasty food! If you're near Botanic and haven't had the pleasure of sampling a bao bun, I couldn't recommend anywhere better to try 😊

Not much food for what I pay for

great vegetarian and vegan options and the food was great. it was a shame that chicken wasn't halal even though there are halal groceries near by. the restaurant was a bit dim so it wasn't a great sit in experience.

I have been eating from BaoBun (usually Lisburn Road) for a long time and the food has always been great. However, this evening my friend and I each had a rice box with pork and sriracha sauce from Botanic. Not long after eating we both started to feel very unwell with frequent trips to the toilet and vomiting. Hours later and I still feel sick and suspect food poisoning. This is the only meal I had all day except for my breakfast which is the same meal I eat everyday and so this can be ruled out as a possible cause of the sickness. I will definitely think twice about ordering from here again. I’m disappointed more than anything as I have always found the ingredients and food in BaoBun to be fresh and very tasty and I have often recommend the place to friends and colleagues.

So first time ever in the place as the Ballyhack location for some reason is not doing takeaway. Arrived in joined the queue with 3 people in front of me. One person; who standing under the sign that said order here. The staff were flat out, two in front move on I continue to stand no more than 2 foot from the counter and maybe 3 feet from the till. The young person behind the till asks can I help I responded "Yes a collection in the name of.....please" The response "You should have come up to the till for that!" I look around turning 360 degrees and ask"Why was this not close enough?" "NO NEED FOR THE ATTITUDE WAS THE RESPONSE' In the name of .... "A collection in the name of .... please" getting a snottery response and I have THE attitude!! Guess who won't be back for this over priced average food served with above average rudeness!

Another visit to bao buns. Buns lovely and soft. Meat nicely cooked. Kimchi, Asian slaw and peanuts excellent. Soup was fantastic. Nothing wrong with entire experience. Thus the 5*.

This is a lovely wee place with great food and friendly, helpful staff. We didn't have to wait long at all for the food and our group of 4 were able to sit in (just bear in mind that this particular location does not have room for large groups). The Banh Pho was phenomenal with a nice little bun on the side! 😋🍜

I took meal deal 1 here. I got the bao buns with tofu, spiced fries and a Coke. I paid £13. The serving size for the bao buns and tofu are perfect, if you are a 5 year old with anorexia. The flavour was great if your tongue has been the victim of 3 degree burns and your taste buds are incapable of processing flavour. I asked for the hot sauce and I thought I was eating candy, when I asked for hot (the spiciest option) I thought it at least be a little spicy. The spicy fried were unevenly salted and were on par with their mcdonald equivalent. The diet Coke was alright. All in all I will never visit again unless I want to be robbed of my money.
