Banks Fish & Chips in Havant

I like this place. Fresh fish and chips, sit in with a cup of Rosie and watch the world go by. There’s a few coffin dodgers to chin wag too and help you contemplate later life. Oh and it’s on the number eight bus route in and out the city.

OAP Take away was served in a box. I noticed chips were generous but a little cold to eat straight away. Quick service as only one pair eating in.

Not sure why fish and chips takes 30 minutes to cook, 4 people in front but wait 30 mins, had lot better cod tbh, the cod was dry, the batter was more orange than golden brown more bits of chips than actual chips, correct me if I'm wrong but chips should be fluffy golden chips not crunchy ends and lots of them, and yes before you say it was last thing before closing, no it was a Friday night around 7pm ISH, so no it wasn't late, come on Banks you used to do decent fish, sorry after 3rd attempt I won't be back

Ordered cod and chips here and it was spot on, cooked fresh, only one gripe expensive, but then where isn't.

This used to be the best fish and chips for miles, I even gave it 5 stars before. Now it is a sad shell of itself, overpriced and poor quality. There's now an odour to the food, one of stale oil, and no real flavour. Such a shame.

Mediocre. Chips & cod somewhat tasteless. Service mumbled every question. I'm not an OAP, I can hear well enough, but with the Radio blaring "thumpa thumpa thumpa" being shy on the till doesn't cut it. SPEAK UP!

Portions have increasing got smaller over the last year. The main guy that runs the place is more miserable than my mother-inlaw. Batter on fish over recent visits has been soggy and chip portions have been small. I love the fact you have to prove you are a OAP to get the OAP meal deal (as per the black board 🤣). My advice is if you ask for fish and chips say that you want it wrapped separately as they skimp on chip portion if put together. There is better chippys locally ie Billy's chippy in Waterlooville. Big portions, friendly service and reasonable priced.

Absolutely disappointed, for the cost I expected loads better, fish had more grease than a McDonald’s fryer and chips had less taste than water

Asked a simple question about confusion about costs on their pricing board and almost had my head taken off! For the record Chicken includes chips , Fish does not..they are now extra ! Be Aware! Last time I'll be going there after many years of patronage due to the attitude by Tony!

Been going here for years now for the same chicken burger and chips, used to be one of my favourite places for a chicken burger. You used to get two big slabs of chicken, lettuce and mayo. Price has gone up, quality has gotten worse. This Friday despite even asking for lettuce and mayo I got a "burger" with one bit of chicken, no lettuce and no mayo, in a bun that was hard on top. This seems to be a constant problem asking for lettuce and mayo and getting nothing but a sad looking piece of chicken in a dry bun. Been a customer for years, wont go again

The fish and chips were very nice and not priced any more than other local chippies. Clean and tidy inside. I asked to use the toilet while I was waiting for my food to be cooked and was told this was perfectly acceptable. I was then welcomed into an equally clean and more rhan comfortable lavatory area. I think it’s rather petty to leave reviews purely based on the use of the toilet, considering theres plebty of public conveniences available locally! No need to ask for a plastic / wooden fork to eat my chips with, as lovely and clean metal cuttlery was provided. Customer service was in no way lacking! Very friendly staff who attended to my every need. A joyous experience from start to finish.

The chips and pie were very nice and priced slightly more than other local chippies but not excessively. Clean and tidy inside. Would’ve scored higher however, I was charged for curry sauce and then told 5 mins later that they didn’t have any and could I choose something else! I asked to use the toilet while I was waiting for my food to be cooked but was refused use and told that it’s for staff. This is a lie as other customers who were sat down to eat had use of the toilet. I think it’s rather petty to refuse the use of the toilet to a paying customer based on the fact it was a takeaway order! I also asked for a plastic / wooden fork to eat my chips, pie and beans (curry sauce replacement) with. Again, this basic requirement was not forthcoming so I guess they expect people to eat the pie and beans with their hands! Had potential but customer service was clearly lacking!

Really nice plaice 😉 food is always very fresh, it has a lovely warming feeling. Nice and clean and the owner is a top man. Definitely worth a visit

Fantastic place to get fish and chips etc. Dine in option if you want to. Staff are efficient although a smile and a friendly face would have been better.

Told they don’t do gluten free before closing. When I asked why this isn’t shown on their website I was told that their website doesn’t say gluten free!

Food was great they were very busy at the time I visited. Most members of staff remained calm and professional during the busy period. Only reason for 4 stars is that one member of staff kept arguing with the young lad serving over running out of pea fritters. This was poorly handled and staff should not be treated in that way, especially not in front of customers.

Best chips for miles! Great quality, generous portions, nice little eat-in tables with sauces etc., and really lovely, kind and friendly staff.

Lovely tasting fish, but personally I prefer sausages. And their sausages are wonderful. They always give you more chips than you need so you're always stuffed afterwards, it great.

Stylish looking chippie which first attracted me to the place as we were visiting the local area. Fantastic impressive choice with a lovely indoor seating area. We went for the classic battered sausage and chips twice, a lovely generous portion but not too much. Crispy batter on the banger and fresh fluffy chips all served in a lovely box each. For equally good price too. Most impressed all round.

We always go to Banks for our fish and chips. They are great quality and reasonably priced. We rarely have to wait longer than ten minutes, and when we have to wait it's usually because they're cooking something from fresh for us. Excellent chippy.

Had fish and chips yesterday from this shop yesterday and it was the best fish and chips I have had since my father sold his f n c shop over 50 years ago. An extremely generous portion, cooked to order and a wedge of lemon. My only regret, we were only passing through!

Popped in for a suprise dinner on the way home. Super fast service.. food was delicious! Portions are super generous! 100% will be back! Yummy! 😋

🤢 RANK for £26.50, just look at those chips, kids meals were just as bad. Never again. I just don't get why businesses just can't be bothered after all the lost business during covid, you'd think they would go the extra mile. Well least I know why I was the only person in there when I ordered. Never AGAIN 🤢

Excellent food but had to give 3 stars due to the lack of covid measures in place. Over 20 people plus waiting to collect orders inside the shop at one time which means distancing isn't really possible. Perhaps enforce no waiting in the shop.

Fish and chips here are delicious, with good portion sizes, the serving area is spacious, with comfy Seating, the cafe also nicely decorated, prices are good, and staff efficient, definitely use again.
