If you are visiting Unts, you should definitely visit for a drink. Keep an eye on their Facebook page as they seem to offer food on a few days a week. We were incredibly lucky and managed to book a table for 12 just a day in advance (we really didn't want to stay for dinner at our hotel nearby). The lady who runs the pub was very friendly and replied very quickly. We were in Unst 2 nights and had drinks here both days. It also happens to be the UK's northernmost pub :)

We were very lucky to be able to enjoy 2 meals on consecutive nights at the Balta light. The pub does not always serve food but fortune was on our side as it was open both nights we spent in Unst. The food was super fresh we had fish - locally caught haddock - and chips and was priced very reasonably. Thank you so much to Lesley and her staff. If you visit Unst and the pub is open for food it is a must. Thank you.

called in to this establishment with some friends not sure what to expect we ordered some drinks and the barmaid who was reading a book at this time (i think her name was daisy) made us feel awkward from the offset with a very dry attitude..finished our pints and left ,never felt so unwelcome in a public house in my life and never returned, this was just our experience at the BALTALIGHT 😞

Staff and indeed the regulars made me feel warmly welcome, in this, the most northerly pub/bar in the United Kingdom. It was clean, smart, and well stocked, and I truly hope to be back again one day!

On a far away island with very few, if any, options for public meals, this simple diner may be your only choice. This fact alone is worth a high rating. Unfortunately, the quality and taste of the food for us was well below par.

We had a very pleasant time here. The food was nice and the service was prompt and smiley! 😊

When you first realise that the building is actually a shop you are delighted to have found somewhere to buy food or in fact almost anything else you can think of. The bakery section is particularly welcome for hungry explorers. It’s a shame they don’t still have the DIY cafe.

Well appointed restaurant with fantastic views. We had a lunch and a dinner there. For dinner, venison, duck and pavlova all delicious. Cranachan ice cream very tasty but not what we would expect cranachan to be. Service perfectly reasonable. All very good, but not 5* excellent. Would go again.

Friendly staff, good food, plenty of gluten free options. First time I visited there was hardly any customers but the second time it was very busy so I was glad I reserved a table.
