Balmacara Hotel in Highland

Great service, and amazing quality food. Well worth a visit. We stopped by for dinner twice in a week whilst staying in the local area. The Ham Hock Terrine, and Chicken stuffed with Haggis were both top draw. Beautifully constructed dishes with delicious flavours. Would highly recommend

We had a reservation. Food was acceptable but overpriced. Our server took our order & then someone else dropped it off. Our server was over in the other dining room the entire time & never checked on us. We had wanted drink refills & dessert however left without either. After waiting for over 45 minutes after finishing our meals/drinks, we went to the hotel front desk to ask if we could pay & leave. At that point, our server was sitting down at the front desk with what appeared to be a Supervisor. When we said we had waited over 45 minutes with no one checking on our side of the dining room & wanted our check, the only response was "Oh, okay". No apology from either of them. They actually seemed annoyed that we had interrupted their conversation. Would not recommend this restaurant.

Called for a table at 7, was not possible only at 8. OK, no problem, when we arrived our table was not ready and had to wait at the bar. OK, no problem. When we finally sat at our table the bus with other guests left and they immediately started to clean the room and prepare for breakfast. Cleaning agent flying around and generally a very unpleasant atmosphere the eat our (expensive). Very unprofessional reaction when we asked them to stop. If you don’t have the time to properly serve us then don’t accept the reservation. Avoid at all costs. Very unprofessional.

The starters were not bad, fish and chips average. But the service was not good. Long wait to get anything. We blamed a big group from the bus who was dining in another lounge. You can feel the personnel was stressed.

Over priced and a simple burger undercooked. When I returned it. It was obvious it was put in a microwave. After that the young girls hid from us. Do we couldn’t even order a dessert to help fill us up, since we couldn’t really eat the burger. No one even tried to offer us an alternative. Basically I was glad I had some food for of my own for later.

Stayed one night in the hotel while on a driving holiday through Scotland. We were asked upon check in what we wanted for dinner as we had to tell them ahead of time, which we found odd. Then upon coming into the restaurant we were told to just find a table. For 20 mins we waited trying to get someone’s attention. When we finally did get someone to ask for water, waited another 15 mins before we had to ask again for a 3rd time, then only to be brought dirty glasses. Lipstick stains on both rims of the glasses. I had to physically bring them to the bar to ask for clean ones, if we ever wanted to actually drink our long awaited water. When our pre ordered food did arrive it tasted bland and as it it was some pre-cooked meal they warmed up before delivery! When we asked for bread they brought sandwich bread that had been sliced. For the price of the food the service and quality were significantly over priced! I would give this a complete miss and go find anywhere else!

Friendly service and excellent, well cooked food. Great view too. Highly recommended. Would definitely come back again.

Excellent local food, handmade and tasty, amazing views on sunny days. Many thanks to Juan and his team, new management, and a new chef. Very nice and helpful people.
