Aya Sophia Greek & Mediterranean Cuisine in Calderdale

A group of 11 of us ate here last Saturday evening. The food was delicious, we all had different melas and everyone enjoyed them! It was delicious! However what stood out the most was the amazing staff. They were attentive but not pushy, chatty, polite, patient (there were 11 of us!!) and really added to the whole experience. I rarely put reviews in but this restaurant really stood out!

Went with friends and we chose the 2 course special menu. Found the food bland and not very authentic. Service good but the overall experience was very disappointing. Doesn’t help that you have to walk through customers smoking whilst entering and exiting the restaurant.

Fabulous Greek restaurant with lovely friendly staff. We were there on a Monday evening and we expected it to be really quiet, but there were quite a few in and it was only 6pm! This restaurant couldn’t be mistaken for anything other than Greek and had gently Greek music playing in the background. I started with Ezme, one of my very favourite things, and it was cool, fresh and spicy and served with warm pitta bread, my husband had calamari and he said it was some of the best that he had ever had, and he’s had quite a lot! I followed with the lamb moussaka, it was delicious and my husband had the mixed kebab, another best for him. I “managed” baklava to end the meal, served for me with fresh cream, and all this was accompanied by a lovely bottle of Sauvignon Blanc. We had a great time, and hope to go back soon. I believe there is a cocktail bar there also, and there are various seating areas to eat. It looks very busy on Saturday nights so I’d recommend booking just in case. Do go if you love Greek food, you’ll thank yourself.

Came across this gem on a Friday 2pm . Lovely food and prosecco. Service great and prices reasonable. Great food...salmon delicious.

This was our favourite place to eat in Hebden Bridge. Very warm ambience and great staff- very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious. Highly recommended.

Booked a good three weeks in advance as my Birthday was also Mother's day , arrived to a flight of stairs to get to the restaurant, we were sat in corner seat next to a stone wall it was so cold , the food didn't represent anything we had eaten in Greece or Turkey, the service was very rushed between courses, very disappointed we won't be returning 😑

Amazing food the mixed kebab is absolutely amazing, the staff are so friendly and helpful, if your going to eat in Hebden Bridge this is the place.

I can’t praise this place enough! Having had a somewhat sub-optimal experience in another restaurant in town the contrast in our visit to Aya Sophia was dramatic. The staff were fantastic. The person looking after us was friendly, attentive and really made us feel welcome. I also noticed other members of staff keeping an eye out for any customers who might need anything so it looks like everyone who works there takes pride in what they do. The food was absolutely delicious, I had the Sucuklu Yumurtah Pide (a bit like a pizza) and my wife had Lamb cutlets. We were stuffed and couldn’t finish but they happily boxed up our leftovers so we could take them home and enjoy them the next day. (I can confirm that the remaining Pide was very tasty as a snack straight from the fridge.) The atmosphere inside the restaurant was vibrant and relaxed. I’d look forward to a return visit should we visit Hebdon Bridge again in the future.

This is a great place for lunch. We popped in on a Sunday, without a reservation and were lucky to be able to get a table as it was busy. The atmosphere was pleasant and service friendly and efficient. We decided to eat off the deal menu- which was 2 courses for less than £20. All the food was delicious. We will be back next time we are in Hebden Bride.

Really good food but not really authentic. The moussaka didn't have enough cinnamon taste and the kleftico was really a lamb shank with rice and salad. I would prefer Greek potatoes.

Short notice walk in of 7 guests and 2 dogs, very warmly greeted and offered a delightful outdoor heated booth! The food was to an impeccable standard and ALL staff were welcoming friendly and happy to help. A true gem in the heart of Hebden Bridge!

We booked in to the Aya Sophia as a party of six for a birthday celebration. From the moment we walked in we were catered for and looked after very well indeed. Staff were excellent, efficient, poilte and knowledgable. Service was fast but we never felt pressured. There is a great menu to choose from – we all mainly went for mezé starters to share and traditional Greek main courses. We were not disappointed. The food was fantastic and overall there was a nice atmosphere in the restaurant. Afterwards, we managed to blag a side room with a 'firepit' in so we could chill out and continue our evening with cocktails. A great finishing touch to a great night and we'll be back at Aya Sophia for sure. Highly recommended.

Mixed kebab put me in a sort of trance. Unbelievable. All the meat was beautifully charred and yet still so juicy. Star of the show has to be the calamari. Probably the best I've ever had.

Lovely restaurant - I went here with my family who came up from London and wanted something nice and authentic. Ordered loads of different meats and thought the food was made very well. The design of this place is beautiful too and they were super accommodating to our dog. Having finished the weekend, my parents said that this was their favourite place they'd eaten at before going back down. We ordered the pide and the mixed grill as well as some vine leaves fries, cheese rolls (bourek) and the Greek salad. If you are in the cocktail bar (the only dog friendly section) and it's cold then make sure you're closer to the front door because that's where the heaters are. The staff did bring blankets but it didn't do the job (they did try!). For the four of us it was about 112 pounds

We really looked forward to eating at Aya Sofia after seeing the reviews. We were given a table by a log fire which was good and ordered Tzatziki with pita to start with the house white wine. The tzatziki was very disappointing compared with others we have experienced and had very little taste. Our main courses were Kleftiko and chicken kebab. Rice as an accompaniment was not offered as standard but rather bulga was provided. The dishes were not as hot as we like. The service was pleasant but slow (odd as there were very few customers). Overall this was a disappointing meal and we would not return.

Usually come here for lunch when it's not too busy and the food and staff are absolutely spot on. Last time I came I had the lamb cutlets and they just blew me away.

Popped for lunch with my wife and daughter, we're all fans of Greek / Mediterranean food and we weren't disappointed. We tried out the lunchtime specials and they were delicious, we will definitely be back to try the full menu.

First time visitors but won’t be the last. Live local but never been to this restaurant before and after our meal wondering why. Excellent service, great menu, good atmosphere, reasonable prices (service charge added), main thing food was fantastic. Well worth a visit.

Was a bit disappointed after reading the reviews so wanted to share my experience. The service was excellent and the restaurant was clean and tidy. The food was well presented. However I ordered the vegetable moussaka which was a very thin layer of roasted veg with no sauce cover by a layer of melted mozzarella cheese. The bulgar wheat rice was a bit bland so the whole dish lacked depth of flavour. My partner had the Chicken Bodrum which was very nice but with the bland bulgar wheat rice became a bit samey.

Unreal food… just DELICIOUS. Service also excellent. Couldn’t recommend enough.

As I use a walking stick to aid my mobility it’s not the easiest place to access yet if you can push yourself to climb the stairs to the restaurant you will not regret it. I had a mixed grill and it was superb. Served with cuscus and two dips. Beautifully cooked and presented. Served by ( a very lovely woman in a leather skirt) I’m sorry I didn’t catch her name. She was very pleasant and very attentive to our table and knowledgeable as to what was on the menu. All in all well worth the visit. We will go back and try something different next time as the menu looks superb.

Absolutely love this place. The food was incredible. I had the Sucuk for a starter. This tasted amazing. The sauce that it comes out in was delicious. It was great for dipping bits of pitta in. Love Tzatziki so we had to try that too and it didn't fail to disappoint. Again this was great for dipping and nice and light before our main. Being a greek resteraunt I wanted to keep things traditional so i opted for Moussaka. This was amazing - absolutely delicious. Only thing that slightly let it down on the night is that staff forgot part of our order. We had to remind them to bring it out. But unfortunately by the time we had finished our meals it still wasnt ready so we had to cancel it which was disappointing. Let me say though the food here is absolutely delicious. The menu is great and has a wide variety of choice. The prices are very reasonable as the food is exceptional. This is easily one of the top resteraunts in this area and the surrounding areas and one of my favourite places to visit. I can't wait to come back again to try out more of the menu. And i would highly recommend visiting if you haven't done already.

We went for a light lunch at Agia Sophia for the third time since we have been in West Yorkshire. Every single time the staff have helped me up and down the steps with my buggy. The food is great, they make you feel welcome, they even substituted the vine leaves on my Meze platter for something else when I told them just not to bring them as I don't eat them. Great little place to eat, would highly recommend.

Honestly can not fault this place. Fabulous busy atmosphere, food was great, drinks were great, staff were lovely. Will definitely be visiting again soon! Very happy 😃

Cocktails, great music roof top terrace what more could you want. Food tasted so fresh the garlic bread, fries chicken kebab, houmous,pitta breads and fresh yogurt. We had a try of everything the nicest thing was the spicy sausage wow loved it all. The staff were friendly and accommodating would highly recommend going here.

Can't fault Aya Sophia at all. We have been in a few restaurants/ cafés recently when the staff are more interested in thier phones or chatting then serving. This is the second time we have been in and I can honestly say it is not the case at all. The person who runs the floor is "on it" , the staff are friendly, attentive and polite. The food is lovely and would recommend whole heartedly to anyone. They do add Thier own service charge which I am never keen on but to be honest it was less then the tip I was going to leave.

Very friendly staff, proper garlicky hummus, and an amazing 'ultimate Greek salad' with chicken, Turkish sausage and grilled halloumi.... From the lunch menu so only £9.95! Absolutely delicious!

This has always been my favourite restaurant. But sadly today very disappointing, the chicken was burnt. I hate to complain however I told the waitress who was very apologetic, but nothing from the owners to apologise, a free drink or a discount to say sorry....

Enjoyed the meal deal at lunchtime (£16.95). Hummus starter and moussaka mains for me - very nice! Feta salad and chicken kebab for my partner also very nice. Only gripe is the added service charge. What are we paying for, if not someone to bring...

We visited Aya Sophia Saturday 20th May. There was 7 of us for late lunch. We all had the Mezze, absolutely delicious. Fantastic service, great atmosphere and lovely surroundings. I would definitely recommend it to friends and family.

Travelled to try this spot on a Wednesday night. Spending lots of time in the area, we have always wanted to try food here but this is the first time we have had the time or inclination. Very tasty food. We decided on a set menu option as the menu was interesting enough(Sun-Thurs 2 course for £16.95 pp) Noticed on bill still tried charging for starters however but mistakes are fair enough. when queried, the manager seemed irritated by this. After deduction of starters we still made a generous tip as it wasn't about the money. Unfortunately the response from management affected our experience

This was the second time we have visited here and this place does not disapoint, there was severn of us and we all had something different to eat and it was excellent ,we even had the same table as last time ⌚. The staff work exceptionally hard as they never seem to have time to stop what they are doing and it was a bank holiday weekend so it was packed. You need to book well in advance to make sure.
