Ash Tree in Lichfield

Food and price Excellent, service a bit slow but was a very busy night.

Went for Mother's Day very early, the staff were pleasant enough however I left hungrier than I entered. They delivered the other 7 in the parties mains before bringing out my main, they then bring out my main. I have to send it back, until the starter comes out, 10 minutes later when everyone else is finishing their meals my starter comes out. Then they expect you to sit there and eat your main whilst everyone else waits and watches you. I wasn't going to do that. This was supposed to be a mother's day meal after my mother recently was in a serious accident. This mess up happened when the restaurant and bar were quite empty. I ended up having a meal at a motorway service station. I did email in a complaint but it went ignored. Staffordshire were pleasant and hard working. Kids didn't enjoy their meals, lots of parking, place very clean, just a lack of clear processes and management. This meal was so bad, I had to arrange another one elsewhere. Also can't get a simple Burger and chips. Menu extremely limited. Reply - I've had an email back today regarding the issue, although it was a generic copy and paste email.

We booked a table for 8 people + 1 child, it took a little while to be seated as they needed to sort the tables out but the girl that served us was wonerful - I didn't get her name but she was incredibly polite and helpful - we had a 30% voucher as we were ordering online, she came over and explained that we can't use the 30% online but instead sorted it for us - she was really chirpy & friendly! She really was wonderful so extra special thanks to her from us please!

Gentleman behind bar took our order then disappeared without a word came back a few mins later didn’t acknowledge us just continued pouring our drinks. No please, Thankyou no manners or customer service at all

The service was lovely, very polite and patient. The food was lovely as it always is. The waitress was very happy to get the mac & cheese changed when she learnt it was incorrect. Will definitely be visiting again and would advise all others to do the same

So, we have been here numerous times, never a problem, until last night. Made the booking online, confirmed by e-mail text. Arrived 5/6 minutes early and were booked in, waitress seemed a little confused at our arrival but were pointed to our table. We perused the menu, no offer of a drinks order, although to different waitresses were working the area we were in and payed by us 3/4 times, never had to order at the before, nothing said on arrival that this was now in force, so, we waited and chatted, in particular rush, but after 45mins and no signs of interest from any of the staff, we upped and left. Now, if we go somewhere and see other tables having orders taken I assume the same, and as said we have been here often, but put off returning after this. N B. On leaving, 2/3 waitresses at the bar chatting!

Food was fantastic, chicken and bacon salad was delicious with a great variety of things in it, the rump steak was cooked to perfection. Service was great and there was a lovely atmosphere.

Food was a bit disappointing Cowboy burger must have been for Woody from Toy Story Gluten free gravy was not nice I am told Deserts were ok Drinks were ok but young barman didn't know to tip glass when pulling beer or what a spritzer is.

Food was great and the staff worked really hard, as it was a busy evening. Special thanks to Lily who served us. Our son is autistic and needs his tech, when we needed a place to plug his charger in Lily accommodated this quickly and meant we had a peaceful evening and our son was happy and content. Food was brought out quickly, I like the fact that you can see the calories for each meal - the cheeseburger was excellent. We used a 30% off voucher we’d received in the post which tempted us to the Ash Tree but we had such a good experience we will definitely be back.

The dinner plates were very hot the veg also very hot. The surroundings were pleasant and warm. Friendly service.

Lovely table all clean ready for us a family of 5. We had Burgers, kebab, mac n cheese, hunters chicken baguette. All arrived nice and hot, food was delicious. Deserts we had apple crumble, rocky Road and sticky toffee pudding all nice and hot and delicious. Ciders and soft drinks also really nice. Will certainly be returning..

Really enjoyed our food today we both had the gammon, it was cooked to perfection.. highly recommend it. 2x pints cost £12 so very expensive just so people know.. overall great 👍!!

Hosted our baby shower here and the staff were above and beyond, nothing was too much trouble. The food was incredible we paid for a silver buffet for 50 and there was enough food to feed 100. Really really tastes mixture of both hot and cold food. Bar staff were quick and efficient at providing us and our guests with drinks too 10/10 will absolutely recommend the Ashtree to everybody! Thank you so much to the manager and his team!! Fantastic service

We are regulars to The Ash Tree .We always have had amazing food. Served by Annie who always goes above and beyond and is so friendly. It is a very kind, friendly comfortable setting. We will always be back :-)

Very disappointed with menu prices seem to have gone up a lot we had 3 steaks and my brothers was more grissle than meat we’ve had some fab meals over the years but sorry this time was disappointing

We waited over a hour didn't get our meal. asked and they said they were busy although someone who come in after us had had their meal and gone.The waitress said once we had finished our starter they would do our meal. we had not had our starter. so we said we would have it all together. Table booked for 1.00 meal arrived 2.20.

Annie one of the waitresses at the Ashtree pub Rugeley works tirelessly hard, and always with a smile, working on her own initiative and as part of the team, providing an excellent service to the customers, she is an absolute credit to the team and Marston’s 😊

I hadn’t been to this pub for a while so Thought while In the area me And girlfriend Would book in for a meal I ordered the beef lasagna and girlfriend had the mega mixed grill no one came up to us while eating to ask how food was but mixed grill meet was all very dry and my garlic bread was cold and hard we was both disappointed at the meal and lack of communication from the staff

It has always been our local and we have had varying experiences all dependant on the staff of course. I am also a member of the Ash Tree Boat Club and we have have used it for meals as well. Yesterday my neighbour and I walked to the Ash Tree. We had booked a meal for 1pm. We decided on the Ash Tree because they had a 30% off mains offer. There were 5 cars on the car park. We walked in was told that the gluten free option which they had a menu for and which we had opted for on our booking form wasn’t available and that they in fairness had been trying to contact us but I had missed a digit out of my phone number on the form so they weren’t able to. It wasn’t a problem. We opted for two beef Sunday lunches. The waitress was very pleasant and I ordered mine with the gravy separate and that was exactly how it came. It was fine meat ok and gravy separate on the one. I’ve got to say I go to the Plum Pudding for lunch regularly and their Sunday lunch knocks the spots off the Ash Tree. It is more expensive but not a great deal more and is worth the extra. Pudding next . Had exactly the same but neighbour had gluten free option so no cake in hers. Not as many sweet choices as when the Ash used to have a blackboard full of choices. We paid for our meal and forgot our 30% off mains option. Nobody mentioned it either. So two roast beef £13.25 each two Rocky Road sundaes £5.50 each (one gluten free no diff in price) 1 bottle Zinfandel rose £58.95 in total. Obviously would have been less with the 30% off mains option applied.

Having met at the Ash Tree we decided it would be an ideal location to hold our wedding reception. Joe & his team was brilliant at stage managing our event & decorated the tables etc with our colour scheme for our wedding with the bits & pieces we had supplied. Our day went off without a hitch & the food & service was exceptional. We were & did not feel pressured to rush through our time spent at the Ash Tree. The waitresses were lovely in letting our group reminisce on old times & obviously new times with the wedding. All in all a fantastic atmosphere & we spent 5 hours approximately in the Ash Tree. Both Lewis & myself cannot express our gratitude enough to Joe & his team. Thank you so much & see you again in 2024 Mr & Mrs Howlett

Been in a few times over a matter of months & the ALAWAYS need more staff!! There was one waitress for the whole pub yet again today. The food was so so. Had to send one meal back because it was wrong, along with other mistakes. Real shame as it's a nice pub! Fingers crossed it can back to what it used to be!

We were a party of 5 (2 of which are over 80 with 2 diabetics ) arriving at 13:20 for 13:30 Christmas Lunch. We were seated right away. No one advised us about drinks. Do we wait to order or go to the bar? Our starter came out straight away. Which was delicious. By 13:40 starter was finished so I went to the bar to get drinks. At 14:30 we still hadn't got our main. We had to tell the staff 3 times. I went to the bar to get a 2nd round of drinks. The poor guy behind the bar was quite stressed. He handed me a pint of San Miguel, as he did so it caught on the drip tray and spilled towards me. He got a towel to mop it up. I took it off him to help him out while he poured the rest of our drinks. When our mains finally arrived it was nice and hot and very tasty. When we finished our main the time was 15:10 bearing in mind we only have the table until 15:30. We were all getting a bit stressed out wondering what would happen if the time went over. The desserts came 15:35. Although the staff didn't say anything about leaving, while we were eating the dessert the staff came and collected the plates of those who had finished while other were still eating. As soon as we had finished, we felt pressured to get up and go. This upset my stomach as my meal hadn't had time to settle. The food was absolutely lovely and the poor staff worked really hard. I think the plan was over ambitious as serving times were way off.

Breakfast with Santa- sold as visiting Santa in his grotto, music and dancing and a delicious breakfast. Non of this occurred. No one came to take our food order, had to go and find someone. Once food order taken sat for an hour with 3 really hungry children as well as myself and husband. No music, no dancing nothing!!!. Santa sat in a chair by the bar! Had to go and find out where our breakfast was past 11am. Arrived and was awful! Probably the worst food I’ve tasted ever, looked like boiled bacon, everything was cold. We ate it because we were so hungry. Really poor service, really poor food, and spent £40+ for this diabolical non experience. We will not return.

I always like to go here because they have a good gluten free range, they are knowledgeable about what’s in their food which really puts your mind at ease. I went last week with my mum and little boy after his birthday celebrations and the waitress Annie was absolutely lovely as are all the staff but she noticed it was the little ones birthday and got him a bowl of ice cream with some goodies on top as an extra birthday treat. I couldn’t thank he enough and the little one was over the moon. Annie you are a super star!
