The worst cheese and onion ‘pie’ I’ve ever tasted, A small dish containing salty, yellow runny liquid with hard lumps of potato, slimy onions and a pale (separately cooked) pastry lid perched on top. I don’t often leave food but I did today, Avoid.

We have been to Applestore cafe thrice before - This time however, we were thoroughly disappointed. While the food was adequate for the price, the service and hygiene were severely lacking. Food brought out at different times on a dirty table (despite three previous requests to clean it) and toilets which left much to be desired. What disturbed us the most was the fact that the same people serving us were also the ones cleaning the toilets. A 2* Hygiene rating we found out afterwards - greatly deserved. Something has changed for the worse at this cafe, and it's rather disappointing. A beautiful location and building but poor service and dirty, dusty hygiene standards. 2/5.

Ordered a sandwich to be met with 20 minutes later, some sort of Luke warm concoction that had been sat out for 10 minutes. Not only that, but I also got a wasp in my sandwich. They're not that bothered. I asked for a new one, to get the same sandwich back, but slightly warmer. Will not be coming again

Everything was over cooked and dry. Very crumbly dry scone which I held together with the jam and cream. Kentucky club sandwich (described as hot) came dry and warmish.... As if sat waiting. Tater totes fried within the inch of their life. Maybe a smaller menu done well would be better for a small place that seems not to be able to cope with it's large custom.

The staff are very friendly and welcoming, the setting is tranquil and light in converted glasshouses and the food is superb. We shared a generously sized melted tuna panini with Monterey Jack cheese with a very good side salad followed by one of the best coffee and walnut cakes we have ever tasted baked on the premises. Would thoroughly recommend especially as it is part of a beautiful and renovated country house with many lovely walks around.

A disappointing first visit since rebranding, we won't be back for food any time soon. We would previously always stop here for food after enjoying some time in nature nearby. We ordered a cheese and onion pie, which was in fact a cheese and onion soup in a bowl with undercooked potatos, capped off with pastry and baked. When asked if that was how it was supposed to be, the staff member said yes and provided us a spoon. We also had a beef burger with extras, which didn't actually come with the extras paid for! On the plus side, the coffee was great as ever, and the skin-on fries were delicious, so we'd just stick to that from now on.

Restaurant only has a 2* Food Hygiene!! Sadly this place used to be a real gem, it now feels the number of customers visiting has outgrown the cafe’s capacity and capability. We were not greeted on entry nor when we found our table. Walkways are narrow, we had to give way to staff, who didn’t say welcome nor thank you for waiting for them to pass. Poor pleasantries continued through our visit - not even a thank you or goodbye. You could see the staff were stressed, but this is due to inexperience. Two tables around us dining had to complain- both tables had been forgotten about. I watched in horror as an inexperienced team member apologised to them in the most strangest manner. This followed by a visit by the senior management. The food was acceptable, but breads on both plates were drenched in cooking juice and like mush. I also watched on in horror as a staff member dropped a cake, pieced it back together and served to a customer. Needless to say we left after this! The restaurant also needs a good clean, tables sticky and everything has a coating of dust. We won’t be returning.

Fabulous surroundings for a good few reasons, I loved the cheese and onion pie for my lunch and the staff were very friendly and they knew their jobs, they were ALL dressed clean and tidy and the place itself was immaculately clean too. Wer enjoyed our lunch inside the cafe BUT then, as it was a gloriously sunny day we moved to sit outside and enjoy our coffee in the sunshine We both loved watching a little Robin redbreast hopping about really near to where we were sat. It didn't seem to be frightened of people, t must be so used to being around people since it didn't even get flustered when anyone moved. It was a lovely afternoon spent with my friend and IF I ever have the the chance to return to the café one day then I certainly won't be turning the offer to pay another visit.

We visited this lovely establishment yesterday afternoon to celebrate my 70th birthday. There were 5 adults and my great grandson aged 15 months. We ordered food off the lunch menu which was very tasty. Beef brisket, onions and horseradish on a ciabatta bun with a yummy jus, fries and coleslaw. My great grandson had chicken goujons and fries. The chicken was a bit too spicy for him, but he devoured the fries. He was then presented with a delicious homemade butterfly cake with buttercream and homemade jam which he absolutely loved. The meal was finished off with a huge slice of lemon and mascarpone cake, brought out complete with candles and everyone singing happy birthday. A lovely afternoon in a beautiful setting with friendly staff. Although the weather wasn’t great the setting is beautiful. I will return and would definitely recommend a visit.

Not only is there a varied and interesting menu with something for everyone, but there is a choice of indoor seating in the bright and light conservatory, but also plenty of outdoor seating on the grass and terraces. The food is always delicious and it's licensed so you can have wine, beer, gin, etc as well as a great choice of soft drinks. The leafy environment makes it my perfect cafe ❤️

Great cafe overall, lovely area to eat at but I’ve only eaten at the outside seating so can’t comment on the inside eating per day. It wasn’t very clear for a first time where to get the menus or where or how to order without having a wonder around and asking the staff is I would say the only downside. The staff themselves are friendly helpful and the food variety and quality are very good, lots of nice drink and dessert options to choose from as well.

The staff did their best and got us a table for 6 and our kids had to sit outside! We ordered food and it took an hour to arrive by which point all of our children were getting very hungry. The food was very nice when it arrived. The staff seemed very harassed and they stopped taking all food orders at 2pm. The setting of Applestore is wonderful and is hard to beat on a sunny day. We did a 5km walk around Nicky Nook before having an early lunch in the garden. The food and drinks are good, but nothing special. Where it falls down is on service. While the folks who work there are polite and friendly, it always feels chaotic and like there is no real system. For example when my friend went to order she didn’t know the table number and then after nipping back to find it was forced to queue all over again after. When the food came out of the kitchen, the man serving yelled out the table number, as if he didn’t know how to find the table. In that case, they could just use order numbers. Although his yelling was a bit of a vibe-killer so not sure why this had to happen and why the staff don’t know the table numbers. But as I say, it doesn’t feel like they have systems in place for efficient service which is why I’ve given 3* not 4*

I dont like giving bad reviews because sometimes businesses have a bad day, a run of bad luck, etc. But given the price of the food, the lack of service and the fact this is supposed to be a wedding venue, then im going to have to share We hadn't been in a while, but it looks like they've changed the name to the Striped Apple? Not sure why, have they changed hands? They used to make really nice chunky chips, now they make generic fries. So that was the first disappointment. The staff were pleasant enough initially. My pregnant partner made out right from the beginning when ordering that she was gluten free, but when they brought her hogless roast sandwich, she had to double check the bap was gluten free, as it looked the same as mine. The waitress went off to check, came back and took the dish away as it wasn't gluten free and whoever works the kitchen replaced the bap with some generic slices of gluten free bread, unbuttered. Her dish came back a little colder. I had the Swiss Steak Sandwich on what was supposed to be a ciabatta. It just looked and tasted like a standard bap to me. It came with a small portion of tasteless fries. At no point during our meal did anyone come to ask how things were! This is basic catering service! Several hours later, my partner now has symptoms of gluten ingestion. Call it a hunch, but we think they scraped the hogless roast from the gluten bap onto the gluten free bread, thus cross contaminating it. Both meals, by all accounts, were extremely bland. We just couldn't taste anything. I even separated out some of the ingredients to sample by themselves, but they were all texture and no flavour. So too was the hogless roast. Although it did taste like someone had squeezed some cheap bbq source into it. For the price, really poor. Ordinarily I'm a cake fiend, but given the price of the food and the lack of flavour we decided to cut our losses and leave. My bland sandwich cost the best part of £14, my partner's hogless roast sandwich was around £12. For £30 and considering this is supposed to be a wedding venue, we would have thought the food would have some flavour to it, that the staff would communicate our fairly basic dietary requirements and that the staff would check in on us at some point to make sure everything was OK. Again, this is basic catering. The coffee was good though. Just don't waste your money on the food and probably give it a miss if your have any food intolerances. Hopefully these guys don't do the wedding catering or you'll have a wedding meal to forget. A real shame, as this place used to be alright.

Only an overall 1 star for this place. Expected a lot more as so many of my friends recommended it. But in reality it wasn’t good. Visiting on a Monday morning there was room on the car park. This is NOT a place to visit if you are managing a mobility disability. Path to restaurant quite difficult. Steps with single handrail into the eating area. Tables are rickety. So are the chairs. We just chose a bacon / egg bap and a latte each. The bacon was cooked nicely but sadly lacked flavour. The coffees were brought to the table with most of the coffee swilling out of the cups when the young lady was carrying them to the table. Overall disappointing. Tried it once. Don’t need to go again

Nifty nosh near Nicky Nook We had a fab family feast after walking up Nicky Nook. Arriving early with fewer relatives than expected the people there accommodated us perfectly with attentive but not intrusive service. Everyone was delighted by the food: burger; fish and chips; huevos rancheros; and a Tuna sandwich. The coffee was excellent and they have some choice local bottled ale. The place is light and airy but was warm and welcoming on a wet wintry day to a bunch of wet walkers with drenched dachshunds. We’ll be back for more

We all really enjoyed our fish, chips and peas. I had curry sauce as well which was unique, and very flavourful (not the average gloop I’m used to!). Battered fish was fluffy, crispy and delicious. Chips cooked very nicely! All really fairly priced, and fish and chips combo even more better value! Good selection of canned drinks as well. Staff are really friendly, highly recommended! Myself and my partner went to the pickled goose for the 1st time tonight 20th Dec. I had Crab and crayfish starter and partner had squid to start both was delicious, followed by burger(pulled pork) and homemade steak pudding these were amazing. Was served by Katherine who was very polite and knowledgeable about the menu .i will certainly visit again and we only live 10 min away so at last found somewhere that is worth the money .

A cracking local pub, situated in the heart of the town, in a perfect location. We stumbled across the Royal Oak, looking for somewhere to eat, prior to watching Garstang FC v Droylsden FC. Great find ! Customer service was excellent. ✅ Food was great. 👍 Price was as expected 💰 All in all….. 10/10. 🌟 Will definitely return. FYI, Droylsden won 3-1. ⚽️
