What a way to end Nicky Nook walk 🩷 Welcomed by friendly and very patient staff (we kept changing our minds 🤣) Lovely day so we sat outside, surrounded by nature, the cafes grounds are beautiful. A Robin stayed with us for the duration of our visit ❤️ I had the nicest granola bar, followed by ice cream ❤️🩷💙💚 Will be popping back on a weekend to visit the artisan market ✨️✨️

Took a lil' drive to the quaint village of Scorton and had a lovely lunch at our fave café in the area. Thoroughly enjoyed the slow-cooked pulled beef brisket on ciabatta served with roasted onions, horseradish, roasting stock gravy, skin on fries plus slaw and Leek & potato soup. Cosy ambiance, charming walled garden and glasshouse with hearty meals ~ ticks all the boxes for us. I highly recommend this place.

We had booked a large party of 25 adults and 4 children for a family reunion to remember a loved one who we had lost the previous year. The staff at Applestore Cafe were very accommodating to our large party, always happy to help and paying the bill at the end was done with ease. The food was brilliant, with compliments from everyone at the party and the atmosphere was lovely. 100% recommend!!

We visited this lovely establishment yesterday afternoon to celebrate my 70th birthday. There were 5 adults and my great grandson aged 15 months. We ordered food off the lunch menu which was very tasty. Beef brisket, onions and horseradish on a ciabatta bun with a yummy jus, fries and coleslaw. My great grandson had chicken goujons and fries. The chicken was a bit too spicy for him, but he devoured the fries. He was then presented with a delicious homemade butterfly cake with buttercream and homemade jam which he absolutely loved. The meal was finished off with a huge slice of lemon and mascarpone cake, brought out complete with candles and everyone singing happy birthday. A lovely afternoon in a beautiful setting with friendly staff. Although the weather wasn’t great the setting is beautiful. I will return and would definitely recommend a visit.

A sunny day in May (well, actually any day) is the perfect time to visit the Applestore Cafe. Not only is there a varied and interesting menu with something for everyone, but there is a choice of indoor seating in the bright and light conservatory, but also plenty of outdoor seating on the grass and terraces. The food is always delicious and it's licensed so you can have wine, beer, gin, etc as well as a great choice of soft drinks. The leafy environment makes it my perfect cafe ❤️

I ordered a Tasty Lancashire granary bap at lunchtime before going for a walk over Nicky Nook. Instead received a white bap with grated mild cheese, possibly mild cheddar. After waiting for sometime for the order to arrive, I decided to eat it anyway but not satisfying at all.

Great cafe overall, lovely area to eat at but I’ve only eaten at the outside seating so can’t comment on the inside eating per day. It wasn’t very clear for a first time where to get the menus or where or how to order without having a wonder around and asking the staff is I would say the only downside. The staff themselves are friendly helpful and the food variety and quality are very good, lots of nice drink and dessert options to choose from as well.

I booked a table for 9 people and when we arrived there was no record of our booking. The staff did their best and got us a table for 6 and our kids had to sit outside! We ordered food and it took an hour to arrive by which point all of our children were getting very hungry. The food was very nice when it arrived. The staff seemed very harassed and they stopped taking all food orders at 2pm. Unfortunately this place is a victim of its popularity and does not seem to be able to cope with the numbers of customers during busy periods.

The setting of Applestore is wonderful and is hard to beat on a sunny day. We did a 5km walk around Nicky Nook before having an early lunch in the garden. The food and drinks are good, but nothing special. Where it falls down is on service. While the folks who work there are polite and friendly, it always feels chaotic and like there is no real system. For example when my friend went to order she didn’t know the table number and then after nipping back to find it was forced to queue all over again after. When the food came out of the kitchen, the man serving yelled out the table number, as if he didn’t know how to find the table. In that case, they could just use order numbers. Although his yelling was a bit of a vibe-killer so not sure why this had to happen and why the staff don’t know the table numbers. But as I say, it doesn’t feel like they have systems in place for efficient service which is why I’ve given 3* not 4*

The Applestore Cafe has a lovely setting but when it’s busy on a Bank Holiday, don’t expect to get seated quickly and expect to wait at least an hour for food. They take your table number and call you to order but the management work off two different lists, so we walked out after others that came after us got served first. Very dis-organised.

I dont like giving bad reviews because sometimes businesses have a bad day, a run of bad luck, etc. But given the price of the food, the lack of service and the fact this is supposed to be a wedding venue, then im going to have to share We hadn't been in a while, but it looks like they've changed the name to the Striped Apple? Not sure why, have they changed hands? They used to make really nice chunky chips, now they make generic fries. So that was the first disappointment. The staff were pleasant enough initially. My pregnant partner made out right from the beginning when ordering that she was gluten free, but when they brought her hogless roast sandwich, she had to double check the bap was gluten free, as it looked the same as mine. The waitress went off to check, came back and took the dish away as it wasn't gluten free and whoever works the kitchen replaced the bap with some generic slices of gluten free bread, unbuttered. Her dish came back a little colder. I had the Swiss Steak Sandwich on what was supposed to be a ciabatta. It just looked and tasted like a standard bap to me. It came with a small portion of tasteless fries. At no point during our meal did anyone come to ask how things were! This is basic catering service! Several hours later, my partner now has symptoms of gluten ingestion. Call it a hunch, but we think they scraped the hogless roast from the gluten bap onto the gluten free bread, thus cross contaminating it. Both meals, by all accounts, were extremely bland. We just couldn't taste anything. I even separated out some of the ingredients to sample by themselves, but they were all texture and no flavour. So too was the hogless roast. Although it did taste like someone had squeezed some cheap bbq source into it. For the price, really poor. Ordinarily I'm a cake fiend, but given the price of the food and the lack of flavour we decided to cut our losses and leave. My bland sandwich cost the best part of £14, my partner's hogless roast sandwich was around £12. For £30 and considering this is supposed to be a wedding venue, we would have thought the food would have some flavour to it, that the staff would communicate our fairly basic dietary requirements and that the staff would check in on us at some point to make sure everything was OK. Again, this is basic catering. The coffee was good though. Just don't waste your money on the food and probably give it a miss if your have any food intolerances. Hopefully these guys don't do the wedding catering or you'll have a wedding meal to forget. A real shame, as this place used to be alright.

Good to stop for the facilities but the food and drink is extremely overpriced and took ages to arrive. Coffees were spilled before they were handed to us, tiny plate was inappropriate for the huge bit of cake, and the soft drink wasn't the one I asked for. 15 quid for a couple of mediocre coffees, a slice of cake and a soft drink is ridiculous. The cake was nice at least!

Only an overall 1 star for this place. Expected a lot more as so many of my friends recommended it. But in reality it wasn’t good. Visiting on a Monday morning there was room on the car park. This is NOT a place to visit if you are managing a mobility disability. Path to restaurant quite difficult. Steps with single handrail into the eating area. Tables are rickety. So are the chairs. We just chose a bacon / egg bap and a latte each. The bacon was cooked nicely but sadly lacked flavour. The coffees were brought to the table with most of the coffee swilling out of the cups when the young lady was carrying them to the table. Overall disappointing. Tried it once. Don’t need to go again

Nifty nosh near Nicky Nook We had a fab family feast after walking up Nicky Nook. Arriving early with fewer relatives than expected the people there accommodated us perfectly with attentive but not intrusive service. Everyone was delighted by the food: burger; fish and chips; huevos rancheros; and a Tuna sandwich. The coffee was excellent and they have some choice local bottled ale. The place is light and airy but was warm and welcoming on a wet wintry day to a bunch of wet walkers with drenched dachshunds. We’ll be back for more

Always a great experience! Staff are polite, food is excellent, and the location is superb. Well worth a visit. I travel over 4000miles twice a year to visit. UPDATE: Latest visit 1st of Oct 2023. Absolutely appalled by the decline in service and quality at this establishment. I have been a loyal patron for years, but after my latest visit on Oct 1, 2023, I have decided that it will be my last. The service was abysmal, with clueless staff failing to fulfill simple requests and failing to seat us properly. And don't even get me started on the food. The order was completely wrong - instead of chips, we were served measly wedges. But that's not all. The chips we did receive looked like they came from the bottom of a fryer, as shown in the attached picture. To top it off, the chicken wrap we ordered had a grand total of three pathetic portions of chicken. It is simply unacceptable that such subpar food and service would be offered at such exorbitant prices. This feedback has been shared with friends and family who used to also frequent your establishment.

A Cafe with Great Potential Hindered by Service Issues I've been a regular at this cafe for some time now. It has such huge potential as is such an amazing setting with what seems like lovely management. Unfortunately, my experiences have been consistently overshadowed by unfriendly and unhelpful staff. It's disheartening to encounter the same issues every visit – from staff reluctance to smile to outright rudeness. This place holds so much promise, but the service really lets it down. The food is average, and I've wanted to love it here, but the unwelcoming atmosphere created by the staff has pushed me to explore other options. With some attention to staff training and friendliness, this cafe could truly shine. I hope the management takes this feedback constructively as a chance for improvement.

My husband loves the pork pies here and they are always good. However today he bought 2 cheese and onion slices and they were awful! Lots of pastry and when we eventually got to the filling (of which there wasn’t much!) there was no taste of either cheese or onion! We came to the Royal Oak on a busy Saturday due to garstang having a small festival, it was very busy but such an enjoyable experience. We had our baby with us and nothing was too much trouble, we had some food and drinks and all was really lovely and good portions! Louis and Charlotte in particular were very welcoming and polite and everything was brought in good time considering the amount of other people having food and drinks! Definitely visit again soon, thank you!

Great to be able to order by phone and collect without waiting for fresh fish to be cooked. Staff friendly, both owner on some days and very friendly lady

Sadly, I had a very negative experience here. After a very long walk I asked whether they served cheesy chips was spoken to and looked at with disdain and told no. When I was searching for the food menu I was informed menus were on the table. This menu had cheese on a number of items including as a topping for Jacket Potato. I explained I understood what I'd been told I just wondered if you could sell me cheese as a side ( most places are accommodating to their customers) I was again told we don't do cheesy chips or comes on top of the potato ( which surely you need to add?!) I said I would go somewhere else and was told you do that. I turned around and told her she had a bad attitude. She made me feel little and humiliated in front of a room of customers. I hope she has a few more people don't bother going in because of her rudeness maybe she'll learn some kindness. The lack of helpfulness fine they don't do it her lack of kindness quite another.
