As a veggie, this place restaurants has a few options, which is nice. This place describes itself as selling Vietnamese Street Food. That's true, but the prices are not. There's nothing really good or bad about the food. It's simple food, that's all. There's a good selection of bubble tea. Then the service is non-existent. The food is made in the kitchen. When it's ready, the counter staff yell out your number and you go to the collection point to pick it up. Just too expensive for what you're getting.

This place is a combination between a vietnamees supermarket and a vietnamees restaurant. You can buy the ingredients to prepare yourself a nice asian meal or order a meal to eat in the restaurant or take it home as a take-away meal. Lots of choices and not expensive ... give it a try ...

The food was quite nice and prepared quickly. It's a "street food style" restaurant so you won't have any table service. It's ok, but the atmosphere is very cold and you don't feel very welcome. Next time just tell me, if I'm bothering you, I can go somewhere else.

We had the hope to eating in a good Chinese restaurant but this day the majority of Vietnam restaurants has been closed... that's why we were there. The self seems clean and the staff looks kind but it was an awful service and plates were really not attractive. Maybe the supermarket is good but "restaurant" is just a canteen. Anyway, find another place to eat.

Some of the food was very nice (the pho soup and rice dishes, but the vietnamese rolls were far too oily and tasteless) The portions are good in size but a bit pricey for E&C and the quality of the food Food came out quick and the staff was polite The supermarket attached to it ia very big and nice.

Starvation can lead you to desperate solutions! I saw this place looking like a canteen/supermarket and took the gamble, however I can warn you that cleanliness is not their biggest point, windows looked disgusting, let alone the toilets(you can judge after looking at the toilet pics). The size of the portion..... I thought the chef must be the stingiest on Planet London, he put shrimps instead of prawns, and I counted 7 shrimps and 3 bits of sausage... awful experience...... Avoid!!

We ordered a rice dish and a noodle dish. The food came pretty quickly and was hot. The portion size is very good - you get quite a lot of food for your £7. Flavourwise the dishes weren't ground breaking - the lemongrass pork was meaty but not very lemongrass-y and a big bowl of noodle soup had lots of ingredients (prawns, squid, pork, quail egg, pak choi) without a huge amount of flavour. We will eat here again as it's a good solid lunch for a reasonable price. The bubble tea menu is quite varied, as well as having standard flavours they have some unusual ones like red bean with coconut. Good range of flavoured pearls and jellies on the menu, although not all of them were available when we visited. Pearls were properly cooked and the bubble tea was fairly standard fare from a powder mix like most bubble tea places - it could have done with being mixed a little longer as it was still powdery. The supermarket attached to the canteen is very impressive, with a huge range. When I visit again it will probably be for the supermarket rather than the canteen.

It's ok, good enough to return for lunch during work hours. It tries to do the whole "bring Viet food to a trendy area (Hoxton)" and opens a second branch in Elephant & Castle at the same prices. I've tried various meat dishes with rice, noodles and soup. It's all cooked deliciously but lacks that extra bit of "warmth" that elevates a dish and it's restaurant.

As someone who's only recently decided to try a vegetarian diet, this place has been a godsend. The veggie dishes here are so so tasty. It's all good, but try the special vermicelli and tofu noodle soup especially. In addition, it's part of a cracking oriental supermarket so you can catch up on some shopping afterwards :)

Aobaba is half restaurant, half grocery store. The food had to be ordered at the counter. So it's not the most fancy place, but it still nice.I was there once and ordered a Vietnamese chicken curry and some prawn spring rolls. The food was very good and reasonably priced, and the service friendly. I'd certainly visit this place again in case I visit London again and choose to stay at a hostel or hotel nearby, though I wouldn't travel through half the city just for the Aobaba.

I come here all the time when I miss asian hawker food as there is nothing similar to that in London. While only having one food 'stall' the dining area is hawker style and the food is very authentically Vietnamese. The price is definitely not hawker style at over £7 for a bowl of beef pho, however this is to be expected when you have to import a lot of things and pay high London rent for the space etc. Overall the price is not enough to stop me returning again and again for delicious pho or bau!

Been here a perhaps 5 times, always a mixed experience. I usually have the chicken or pork noodles and the food is usually very good and consistent each time. Very big potion, so you have to go there hungry! The last time we went (as a couple) The soup was ready before the noodles, perhaps 5-10mins before the noodles. Why make 1 dish so far ahead of the other dish? Usually people like to eat together at the same time! The reason we were told was.. I don't want the soup to get cold... Ok... However the soup was barely warm. When you want soup, you want it hot! So back it went... Although I think they only microwaved it, but by which time both dishes were ready at the same time at least...As I say we've been here many times, but it's hard to forgive just bad service like that. This is a really basic part of service. Serve at the same time, and make sure it's hot!Other than that it's usually good there.. We'll probably go back again, but maybe not as soon as we probably would have..

This is a food outlet which is attached to a very large Asian supermarket. It is an oasis of calm on an otherwise mad street and a very welcoming place for the weary and tired person in need of tasty food. Large menu of lovely good including AWESOME baguettes, soup based noodles, rice dishes and stir fries, good range of vegetarian food. The food is made to order, served quickly and very cheap and tasty. What is really impressive is that this place is spotlessly clean. A great place to stop off for your spicy pork baguette.

Questo ristorante mi ha salvata. L'ho notato subito appena arrivata nella via dell'ostello e mi ha fatto una ottima impressione. La sala dove si mangia è grande, ben arieggiata e luminosa, c'è il wi-fi. E' aperto fino a tarda ora.

Me and my partner visited the shoreditch branch of this 'street food restaurant' which by it's very nature suggests grabbing a quick bite. The place was EMPTY! After waiting 5 minutes at the counter for the guy to take our order, we ordered 2 baguettes.. Our order took over TWENTY MINUTES to appear. When asked what was taking so long, the two rather lost and confused counter staff, who seemed to be looking at a tap for instructions, much to a guys dismay who had been back to the counter to ask for a cup of tea that took quarter of an hour, replied that they were too busy and they were the only ones working.. We were the only ones asking for food!!When it arrived, at a cost of £4.50 a baguette, it was vey basic and required NO preparation whatsoever, no kind of apologies was given for the delay. If you are on a fasting diet and want to give people your hard earned cash, then feel free to give this place a try, that is if they can manage to work the till.

Both my girlfriend and I have travelled past this place on the bus for about six months. I pointed it out to her a few months back, and finally we had an opportunity yesterday to try it out. We were both tired, wanted something a little different, and thought why not try it.Well I'm so glad we did. Both of us have travelled extensively around South-East Asia, and with my girlfriend coming from Filipino and Malaysian parents, she would have been the most critical if something was wrong with the food. Both of us went for Lemongrass Vermicelli dishes. It was both refreshing and authentic, with just the right amount of Chilli. Absolute winner - delicious!!The staff were friendly and attentive - it was an experience we would definately recommend and go back for (hopefully in a few weeks if my girlfriend allows me to).Coupled with the fact they sell authentic Hue beer, if you like Vietnamese food, then get there - it was brilliant.See you again soon.

Tried the Vietnamese street food for the first time at this restaurant. Ordered Beef Pho and Beef Hue. Was shocked to be served with meat that was turning bad. Meat was turning to green hue. Went up to ask for a change but was rejected on the basis that the green was not visible to them. Took a photo and attached here to let the people decide if I was lying. You judge. As you can see from the photo the Pho was far from that shown in the brochure. We were given the garnishing such as bean sprout, greens and herbs as you would normally get even in your average Vietnamese restaurant. If you want good Vietnamese food, go to Shoreditch Kingsland Road or Cafe East at Canada Water. If you can do without Vietnamese for now, Tai Tip Mien at nearby Elephant and Castle tube station offers a cheap and cheerful Asian alternative. Or further down the road from this place there's Mama Thai which is also a good alternative. Would I come here again? What do you think? I don't provide alternatives for no reason!

If you have a preconceived idea that Aobaba is going to be like a Chinese restaurant you couldn't be further from the truth. This food is light fresh and healthy. Nothing is fried. No mono sodium glutamate. My starter was a Mango salad and vegetarian spring rolls made with rice pastry instead of wheat.Very digestable. For my main course I chose grilled Butterfly prawns. They were delicious! For my drink I chose "BUBBLE TEA". This style of tea is known throughout Asia. You choose the base flavor.I chose green tea with grape flavor. Then you choose the topping for this cocktail.I chose Green Glass Jelly and Plum flavored TAPIOCA. This was all shaken up with crushed ice, delicious and refreshing.Vietnam was a former French colony and Aobaba make wonderful baked goods. I like the spice cake and the carrot cake cup cakes all made on the premises. The atmosphere is light, modern and airy. Everything is in light pastel colours.
