Antica Roma in Rochford

I love Italian so was excited to try a new restaurant. I had breads with oil and vinegar (yum) lobster ravioli (yum) and panacotta (my favourite). That was also yum. Service was good and I had a great time with my 6 friends. Would definitely re visit. It's at the top of my favourite Italian restaurants list!! X

A warm welcome, great food and varied menu plus specials - which we're explained by our lovely waitress.

Wow, just wow! Party of 6, some of whom are fussy eaters. Everyone REALLY enjoyed their food. We had between us: Calamari (huge portion crisp batter, gorgeous salad with delightful sweet balsamic dressing), whitebait (same perfect salad and perfectly cooked whitebait), prawn cocktail (simple and well made), asparagus in ham (massive hit, just a delightful combination of textures and tastes). For mains we had calves liver (unbelievably perfect, soft creamy texture and fantastically cooked onions accompanying it), Godfather pizza and a Ham and mushroom pizza ( perfectly cooked and massive portions!) and Marinara which was just incredible,”. I’ve lived in Rochford for a long time and this is my first visit, I guarantee we will return. The service good as the food, which as I did was just perfect. I can not recommend this restaurant highly enough

This was without a doubt, one of the best Italian restaurants we have ever visited, very friendly staff that goes out of their way to make your visit one you would never forget, the food was very plentiful and at very good price, we will definitely visit again as the food was wonderful.

Looking for somewhere nice to take my Mother on her 88th Birthday, I had a look on trusty old Tripadvisor for somewhere nice to go which was not too far from Southend. I thought maybe Italian Food, as we all liked it, so I booked Antica Roma for Dinner. Having arrived there, I thought, this looks like an old Pub from the outside ( and it used to be ) - I wonder what it will be like. The first impressions of the inside were - it looks a bit bare and quiet. However, we were quite early. The inside was somehow slightly old fashoned looking, but perfectly O.K. The Staff were all welcoming and we were seated and given menus. On that subject, the menus though functional do look like something from abroad in the eighties! We decided to order a bottle of Rose Prosecco to kick thigs off. This duly came up in a nice winecooler and the bottle looked great! Luckily, the wine was also excellent and we quaffed it while choosing our food. Here is what we had. Myself and my Wife had the Bruschetta and my mother had the Melon to start. All came up nicely presented with decent portion sizes too. Great taste - so far so good. Then I had the Spaghetti Carbonara with a Mixed Salad, my Wife had Polo Antica Roma ( Chicken in Gorgonzola sauce ) with a Rocket and Parmesan Salad and dear Ma, also the Pollo Antica Roma and a Cauliflower Cheese side. And another bottle of the Pink Bubbles! Well, we can all say the food was outstanding! Presented as it should be, again, decent sized portions and fantastic taste. Unfortunately, there was one small drawback - we were all too full to have any deserts!!! When the Bill arrived, a small liqueur and some mints rounded it all off. All in all, a most enjoyable evening. Great food in a most authentic style Italian eatery. Very well done all at Antica Roma! As Arnie says - I'll be back.

Food good Little expensive but now the norm everywhere in uk. Don't think many restaurants will be about much longer when wage bills are so high. And other running costs. Time will tell. Some people will still pay.

Delicious delicious delicious. We booked as we were visiting on a Saturday night and it was a good job we did. It was very busy which in turn gave it a fantastic atmosphere and it most certainly didnt affect the service. Great friendly staff and fantastic service, clearly very good at what they do. Comfy chairs and lovely decor. We had Antica Roma pizza (parma ham/rocket/parmesan) and liver with butter/sage sauce. Both dishes absoltely wonderful. Couldnt rate this place highly enough. I would def visit again, but shame we live so far away and was just visiting.

I came to eat at ANTICA ROMA on Sunday the 3rd of December with my family,it was my dad’s birthday! And there was 11 of us,we also had young kids with us as well,and I just wanted to say that the staff at Antica Roma are so Amazing and they looked after us so well!! The food is delicious and so are the desserts! Thank you ANTICA ROMA for a lovely meal !

Evening out with friends, first time I've visited but not for our friends. Extensive menu and a good selection of wines to choose from. Staff were welcoming and attentive. All in all a very enjoyable experience.

Such a friendly attentive team who make us welcome from the moment you arrive at the door . The food is fresh and delivered to the table hot and tasty. There are very few lovely places like this locally and was so worth the visit .. will certainly be the place to bring friends and business colleagues . Service was impeccable !

Food was great and at the table in decent time. Our waitress was super friendly and had a great sense of humour and kept us happy all evening. The filleto diane was delicious. We'll happily eat there again.

Friendly and welcoming staff. Our food was faultless and most of us had the specials. Freshly made pasta, tasty monkfish and great steaks! One downside.... strange to be approached about tipping before we even got our mains and a discrepancy with the bill after we paid!! That did leave a bit of a bad taste in the mouth on an otherwise superb evening.

It's an authentic Italian restaurant so wasn't expecting standard 'chain' food, but it was awful. Pretty tasteless, pizza was soggy. Can't fault the service or atmosphere but when the food isn't great that doesn't really help.

Not entirely sure why this place is so popular. Aggressive staff, painfully slow service, and the food was terrible. Undercooked, soggy pizza (that we had to send back), tasteless veg, and the desserts were all from those microwaveable pots that you can get in the supermarket - and even then they were over cooked and chewy!!

A lovely lunch; delicious food and plenty of gluten free options. Personable and friendly service. We had a bottle of wine between three of us hence the higher per head price.

Been here numerous times! Went recently with a table of 5. The food was absolutely incredible! So tasty and full of flavour. The timings of the food arriving were also spot on. Staff can't do enough for. Very welcoming from start to finish! The waitress is a credit to the restaurant and amazingly good at her job. Thank you!

We went to Antica Roma last night for the first time and we were very impressed. The service was warm and friendly from this family run restaurant. The food was delicious, best prawns, steak, pasta and tiramasu we've ever had! Prices are very good too. Thank you to all the staff for making our night by being so lovely.

Visited Antica Roma with my husband for a charity fundraising event. Nice place and the staff were lovely, but I’m sorry to say that we weren’t impressed with the food. There was lots of it, but not very tasty. It was all over cooked and quite dry. There were 50 of us, but we had all chosen our starter and main course in advance, from a very limited menu, so no excuse for not being cooked properly. Wouldn’t go there again.

Lovely authentic restaurant, took my mum and 2 kids and everyone loved it, would definitely come again. Pizza and profiteroles are my personal suggestion as they were both amazing!!

Friendly service and good food. Very large portions! Luckily they provided a pizza box so our son could take the rest of his pizza home.

Good atmosphere, quite expensive, felt I have cooked better food at home, ordered vegetables to accompany the main course and disappointed that the coliflower cheese arrived after we had nearly finished the meal ,the saulty potatoes were deep fried flat crinkle cut potatoes might just as well had chips. So not a good experience.

We come to Antica Roma as often as we can. We have tried most dishes on the menu between us and can honestly say we have never been disappointed with anything. My daughter a huge pasta lover, my sister a vegetarian & my partner who loves his steak (there's is Amazing btw) have always been more than happy with our meal. I usually try something from the specials board which is always changing & usually has some fresh fish or speciality pasta. The staff are so wonderful & attentive and will adapt the dishes to suit your taste. We have been for Sunday roast too (which was as equally delicious), valentines & Christmas time, we eat out quite a lot but always return to Antica Roma as it never disappoints. They can get busy at weekends so try to book if you can but we have called up last minute on occasions and been squeezed in. They do offer take out on Pizza & Pasta if your craving authentic Italian but want to stay home in your PJs, we have done this a few times :) Give it a try you will be glad you did!

Twenty of us celebrated my son’s 50th here. Reasonably priced, delicious authentic Italian food, terrific service, and they happily catered for those of us with food allergies. Will definitely be visiting again!

Having had two disappointing previous visits to this restaurant, several years ago, we decided to give it another go and we are happy to say that it is much, much improved and we had a very pleasant evening The quality of the food was good and the service even better, which made for a very nice time, the only downside was the music, with the right tunes, in keeping with the Italian atmosphere, the already good ambience would be very much improved.

Food was just ok but over priced for the quality. Staff were a little abrasive and unpleasant.
