Located just over the motorway bridge when heading out of lancaster there is a shop and cafe as well as the animal housing. Visits to the animals are by appointment.

Arrived with wife and 10 year old daughter after previously ringing ahead and taking proof of residency and tenancy agreement. We got a form off the desk at reception upon arrival and filled it in outside. We were then met by one of the most unpleasant middle-aged women we ever met. From the outset of the conversation she was looking for any excuse to say no. This eventually ended in her saying that she couldn't help us and we'd have to come back another day. At this point our daughter started crying and there wasn't an ounce of understanding from the woman. I whole-heartedly advise all to give this place a miss. We went to Morecambe Cat's Protection in the end and we can't speak highly enough of them. Parents with children please be warned as I would not like to see any child as heart-broken as Animal Rescue made my daughter feel.

This review is for the tea rooms. Had breakfast there yesterday (have been a few times and has always been alright for the money) we ordered 2 sausages buns and a full breakfast. When the buns turned up the sausages inside both were stone cold and by stone cold I don’t mean Luke warm. When they were taken back the chef (who I presume is new) was rude and didn’t even apologise and her facial expression said she didn’t actually believe us. No toast arrived with the breakfast (which states on your menu 2 slices are included) when we asked for the toast the same chef replied rudely with “well, did you order any toast?” I think the staff in the tea room need some training on customer service.

As a former volunteer for animal care, ill start off by saying the place in general is great, kept clean and the animals are well looked after. But some of the staff just let it all down. If you're the older demographic you're likely fine, or perhaps come in with your family and kids. If you're a single man or gay couple, be prepared for a less warm, welcoming approach. Lucky to get a smile or hello. And if you're after applying for an animal and live in a rental, good luck. The receptionist will read that and turn their nose up at you. (Despite having landlord approval) As in my case - they may also change the write up of the animal you're looking to give a home to include something that doesn't align with your already submit application. They may also make assumptions of your abilities and willingness to put in the work without even asking and sitting down with you to discuss. Let's hope I'm just unlucky and it's an isolated situation, but the manager it seems would rather an animal kept in a kennel for weeks and months than a very loving home with years of experience with the breed, the time needed and dedication.

Had to wait ages for a simple hot chocolate...I even chased it..then when it was Brought by the old lady she didn't even apologise or say 'sorry for your wait/delay' and why there was one I don't know? Thank God I didn't order food!

Open 7 days a week. Fresh meals and cakes in the cafe and you can take your dog in. Check out the charity shop too! Pets for rehoming can be viewed on the website. There are no arrangements for those wanting a look around. If you're interested in adopting an animal you've seen online you need to come to the desk in the lower building and complete an application form.

Having lost my Border Collie beginning of January I was looking for a companion for my other rescue dog. I completed an enquiry form and I am yet to hear from the refuge after 9 days from my visit. I am aware that choice is limited, because of my age and that any dogs needs take priority. I consider it bad practice that I have not even had a telephone call or letter/text that my application was unsuccessful.

I am a regular donor to this organisation and normally have an excellent experience. HOWEVER, today a female server working in the tea room, name of TONI, was extremely rude regarding me struggling with my disabled mum and searching for disabled access. Propping a door open and trying to get my mum into the building, I asked where I might find a disabled ramp from the carpark to the patio area. Several eye rolls later, despite me saying I had driven around looking for one but couldn’t find one, the lovely Toni stormed outside to wave in the general direction of the back of the building. I said I still couldn’t see one at which point she stormed up to a spot which had been completely blocked by an Animal Care van and a red car. I started to suggest that the ramp be sign posted and it became a no parking spot so people in wheelchairs could use it, only for Toni to shout that she hadn’t designed the *** building and then stomp off shaking her head. My mum was so shaken and upset. So was I. We had stopped for a treat after a difficult hospital appointment but ended up feeling very tearful. And it didn’t stop there. The food (excellent) arrived but there had been a mix up over one item ordered. Whose fault, I’m not sure. However a lovely lady offered to replace the item for what we thought we had ordered. 10 minutes later Toni appeared, banged my sandwich down onto the table and shouted loudly (all other tables staring) that I had ordered the wrong thing and the mix up was my mistake. “You do know you ordered a bacon sandwich dont you!”. Stunned, I turned to watch her walk away, only for her to shout again. “What’s your problem?”. And then when I went in search of ketchup she started shouting again. Completely out of control and a dreadful representative for the organisation. We couldn’t wait to leave. In response to your reply…I was extremely appreciative of yesterday’s response, however I’m afraid, after todays update, you are mistaken. CCTV does not pick up how we were spoken to. I am also sure, that in your heart of hearts, you know just what type of personality Toni is. A complete misfit with every other member of your team that I have ever dealt with. In the cafe, on the phone and when adopting.

We brought friends here for afternoon tea - and what a treat this was! The food was well presented & delicious, and the service was exemplary. The staff catered extremely well for vegetarians and for the non-gluten dietary needs of one of our party. Cakes, scones, sandwiches, and quiches, were all excellent. Everyone enjoyed themselves very much indeed. We weren't in any way hurried and were able to take our time enjoying this super tea. There was so much food that we all took some home - yummy! (And brilliant value, too!) Thank you all so much! PS We come here almost weekly for lunch - always enjoyable. Amongst our recommendations are the quiche & the soup: both are always excellent, in our experience.

Myself and Mum live about 35 mins away but we visited at the weekend as we are in the process of meeting/adopting our fur baby from Animal Care so we stopped in for something to eat. We both had breakfasts which were gorgeous, the food is excellent quality and the egg's were perfect!. We both agreed its one of the best breakfasts we've had and the volunteers are all very friendly. There were some gorgeous cakes which we didn't have time to try but will do so on our next visit. Prices are very reasonable, in fact I'd be happy to pay more to support the work they do at Animal Care. There is also outside seating and a mutts menu so you can order some sausages/scrambled eggs for the furry family members. There is also a small charity shop area, so have a declutter and donate to them to support the animals.

I really don’t want to share this because we often miss out getting a table but….. For the last few years, the Silverdale hotel is the stand out place for food. I swear the pies in this place are incredible. I’m not sure Michelin do sars for pies but if they did, these guys would have 5 stars. Probably never get a table now🤷🏼♂️

I've eaten at The Herbarium lots of times now and every meal I've had has been delicious. I love their matcha tea too. I'm not fully vegan, but try to eat a plant-based diet 4-5 days a week, and you certainly don't feel you're sacrificing anything in terms of taste, variety or quality at The Herb. A calming atmosphere and lovely staff too. Well done to the whole team (including the Chefs who probably don't get a shout out often enough) 👏

Quiet little pseudos corner: sandals , notebooks, scribbling, armpit hair, yesterdays Guardian, roll ups. Top place really. Croissant served without butter (a sin in my book), coffee cup really well worn in. Nobody smoking Gauloises outside. Now that would have been great.
