Anglesey Arms in Gwynedd

We visited here for food and drinks as a family of 6 with 3 dogs. We were well accommodated with great views and lovely reasonably priced food. Drinks were served immediately and the food was out in less than 10 minutes, piping hot and cooked to perfection. Well recommended. Staff were professional and polite 👌

On our visit to Caernarfon, we visited the famous Caernarfon Castle and happened to see this pub from atop one of the towers and decided to go in for some grub - it did not disappoint. Although quite a busy Monday afternoon, the service was fairly quick, both for drinks and food. The young man behind the bar was very attentive and polite. The Bangers and Mash that I ordered were honestly the best I've ever had, as well as the Fish and Chips that my husband ordered. Didn't have any Guinness on draught, but they couldn't be blamed for it as it had been a fairly busy weekend for them as the barman explained. Drinks were quite expensive, but you can't really complain when the view outside is that nice. Calm music at a low volume was also a bonus, as it added a lot to the establishment's atmosphere. Been reading quite a few reviews regarding uncleanliness, however I'd have to disagree. Our visit to this place was overall a great one, and if we ever return to Caernarfon this is the first place we're coming to.

Came here for food. Location is fantastic right by the water. The food on the other hand… staff got our orders wrong in multiple areas (peas instead of beans, white bread instead of brown bread), the salad in the photo cost £13.49… I don’t know how you can charge that for what was served. I ordered the steak and ale pie. Pie was rock hard in the corners and pastry was crispy as if it was deep fried. The gravy was a microwaved gloopy mess.

Popped in for a quick drink after visiting the castle. Nice location and view but that’s where it ends unfortunately. Nice chap that served us at the bar but every drink we asked for was either ‘off’ or ‘run out’. Pint of Guinness please….sorry Guinness is off. Ah okay, any other stout? Er nope…. okay, any local beer? Um no. I’ll just have a Penderyn please…. sorry but we don’t do Penderyn. Okay I’ll have a Jamesons…. Uh oh, none left sorry. We have Jura, so we took the Jura. I asked for a white Rioja for me to be met with eh?? No we don’t do that. Okay I’ll have a red Rioja then. We don’t do that either. Okay, what wine do you have then?? I’ve got a Shiraz. I ended up with a small screw cap bottle and a glass. To be fair it was a nice wine. The couple behind us asked for a table for dinner to be met with ‘sorry, kitchen is closed’. We sat outside with our drinks and ended up having a laugh about ‘the pub with no drinks’. It really was like a comedy sketch!

Our visit was like something taken out of a British tv comedy. It took ages to get the order right, we were 4 adults and two kids. When the waitress read back the fairly simple order it felt like she was talking about some other guests order. Almost everything on the menu was crossed out (to be fair, it was the day after Easter) but it was open. When my bangers and mash arrived there were crust on the mash, the onion gravy was a snotty mess. The bangers was good though. When people talked about poor and yucky British food in the seventies, this is what they talked about. Our visit was a time warp to the dark ages of British cuisine. And I have absolutely no idea what beer I drank. I do know that it wasn’t what we ordered. The Mushy peas that we were served, I could after a while lift it up with two fingers as a cake, if I had dropped it, it probably whould crack the plate.

Loads of outdoor seating with fantastic views over Anglesea the pint isn't bad and the inside looked nice. Sadly, I had to take one star off because they don't do Guinness. Apart from that it's a very nice place to call for a bit of refreshment after exploring the castle.

We couldnt have asked for a better weekend to stay here, plenty outdoor seating, dog friendly, motorbikes & cycles all stopping by, peroni & moretti on draught, great atmosphere, very busy today as they have a live band, efficient happy bar staff on the ball. we have a lovely room, clean bedding & towels, fantastic sea & castle views such a pleasure to wake up too, step out to nice surroundings to take a stroll through the town.

Wow what a place! Visiting the area for a mini break. 😀 popped into the Anglesey Arms for a drink and what a view!! Super friendly landlord and landlady. Food starting soon also so looking forward to try that when I'm back in the area 😀

Love sitting outside in the summer with a cold beer!

Food was not good and overpriced. The chicken pasta and the steak was ok but the grilled swordfish had no taste and the burger was awful. Also the cleanliness of the place was poor. Toilets stank! Good for a drink but eat somewhere else.

Beautiful old world pub. Rooms are decorated beautifully while still maintaining that old world feel. They do a great cooked breakfast and we met some of the friendliest people there. Place is clean with a great view over the water and its right next to the castle. Staff were also lovely and friendly. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants something different to all the modern hotels. Loved it!

Never ever again!!!!! No interest in Customers!!!! UNFRIENDLY! 1 star is too much!!! Went there on Wednesday at 16.20 o'clock. 5 Service people walked around and 1 was sitting playing with his cellphone. We were NOT greeted as we came in and set down on a table. Not once looked someone at us. By the way, WE greeted a friendly hallo when walking in! We were ignored the whole time!!! Do not know why. After 10 minutes we ask one service person if the kitchen is open. We got an unfriendly look telling us it does not open till 5pm. Ordering at least a drink? Negativ. All doors were open and as well as inside and outside 2 tables had people sitting with drinks. So why do they open the doors, serving some people and ignoring the others? Ignoring customers, playing on cellphone, chatting and laughing with each other but NOT ONCE LOOK AT CUSTOMERS AND CARE FOR THEM. Worst expierence ever. Would I be the boss they all would be fired in a heartbeat. Avoid this place if you want to expierience customer service.

Visited here a couple of times for a drink, whilst in Caernarfon as it was in a really good spot, and in the sun as well. Service was friendly and had what we wanted, so all good

Had an evening meal here. Two courses, starter and main. Well. The starters came out. They were huge. Mozzarella salad and battered king prawns with salad and chilli yogurt sauce. Yum Then mains. They actually sold out of half the menu, but what we had was outstanding. Pork bellies and swordfish. Lovely food, tasty and well presented with generous portions. And the bill was very reasonable with two drinks each.

Called in for a drink, plenty of seating outside overlooking the Isle of Anglesey. watched the sunset. Staff were friendly, good vibes from all.

Restaurant and food quite reasonable but a few too many loud drunks hanging around the bar area using rather colourful language in earshot of children. Staff don't do anything about it.

Seafood dishes are not fresh. We ordered a calamari, a king prawn and a mussel. They all tasted like Iceland products. However, the steak was amazing.

Best place to be on a sunny day,live music, Anglesey wall watching the sunrise with good company.

Rooms - basic but clean. Bed comfortable, shower hot. Great value. Dinner - good, breakfast - good. Service - friendly. Location - ideal. Right across the street from the castle.

Nice location, decent beer but for the price u should expect it! Toilets are foul, come on this day and age with prices u are charging sort it out it bloody stinks, was going to order food but as the old saying goes if the toilet is bed steer clear..

Googled “best pubs in Caernarfon”, this came up, if so I would hate to see the worst. Dirty, crusty with poor beer. Sticky tables in this day an age are not acceptable. Great location.

Nice place to sit outside and have a pint. But the interior of the pub isn't clean and is in dire need of renovation.

Always stop here for a beer when I visit Caernarfon.

Great location by the sea, we were going to sit on a table outside with our children for some dinner but ended up inside due to all the smokers. After spotting some of the food coming out we decided not to order much just the mussels, £14 for a handful of mussels burnt toast and frozen chips. Son wanted to use the toilet but on opening the door we decided it'd be cleaner to just pee yourself absolutely disgusting I felt dirty with my shoes on, more pee on the floor than in the urinal. Often getting a waft of weed was the final straw and we left.

When the weather is nice you can sit by the water with a beautiful view. There is a small selection of food.

A great location right on quayside. When we got there it was almost sold out of beers. That’s fine. It happens! However, I ordered a Morettisnd a Peroni. What I got was not morreti. It was the horrid Wrexham lager. Also charged£9.15 for a pint and a half! RIP off. Won’t be going back.

Went there for coffee and snack. Great ambience but wouldnt waste your money on food. Latte was like a flat white ( black with dash of cold milk ) Nachos...... well plate of corn chips with some grated cheese melted on top and one chilli. Cheese didnt make it to lower levels !! No Avocado, no sour cream and no salsa ! Bit of a stretch to call them Nachos ! Very disappointed !

Attractive location, good beers and I recommend the fish&chips. Not very welcoming and dogs fighting under our table(the owners called it playing) was a tad too dog-friendly so to speak.

A fun pub, interesting live entertainment that can be enjoyed by the water on a nice evening. We had pints and then the next night returned for food as it was one of the only pubs serving food in the evening on a Friday in Caenarfon. The fish and chips and burgers were tasty if not spectacular.

Enjoyed our overnight stay, rooms are dated but clean enough, fantastic location 1 St class breakfast, and a bonus that we were able to park our car right under our bedroom window.

Excellent service from staff. The location is brilliant. Live Music. We where looked after exceptionally well when it came to food and requiring a gluten free option. Can't fault them. Will definitely return.

Good beer, nice atmosphere and friendly staff. The food was exceptional. We ordered the Sirloin steak and the Sea bass fillet with seafood sauce. Both were excellent and the quality of the food prompted me to write this review.

Stayed here for 1 Saturday night as my wife and I wanted a weekend away. Got to the hotel, checked in and given room 1 to stay in. The room was extremely dirty, windows were dirty and didn't open, sills were rotting, bathroom looked like it had been made with odd bits of material and hammerd together. Walls in the room were disgusting, paint peeling off the walls, 2 pieces of ply wood screwed into the wall to cover the mold. We didn't take our shoes off in the room because the floor was dirty. Would advise staying elsewhere

Brilliant fish and chips, probably best I've had for quite a while. Dog and family friendly, attentive bar staff. Locals are friendly enough too. Would come here again!

Firstly, when they say they are dog friendly, they really are. Plenty of dog water bowls and no one batters an eyelid, which made us feel at home. Food was served and although I do not eat at top quality hotels, I know good food when I'm served it. The chef knows flavours whilst maintaining a home food feel. Rooms are not pretentious which suited us brilliantly as we were not on edge with our dog being with us, so this helped us to stay relaxed. Staff, other guests and locals were all super friendly. Would definitely visit again.

Called by chance to request a reservation for evening meal for 11 people. It was busy when we arrived, but staff speedily accommodated our booking. Food was superb, all main meals arrived at the same time. Very reasonable! Friendly staff. We had a great evening!

Stopped in for a family and friends meal at shirt notice. Excellent food and drink. Service outstanding. Reasonably priced.

Food quality was good at very reasonable prices. Place is kid and dog friendly. Service is unreliable depending on who is working that shift. We had dinner one evening and had great service, while another day we had lunch and there wasn’t any service, even though there was 3 of them working. The tables weren’t kept clean either and was sticky.

Called in for food good size table service was quick and the food was fab down side was I was doing the driving.

Rooms could do with a refurbishment. Mould on walls and ceiling and shower was dirty cold in room and no heating.

Cheap and cheerful. Any one going to visit, no lift so u need to be able to climb stairs. Opposite the castle, and quite near to station for bedgellert steam railway
