Anchor Fish and Chips in Epping Forest

Best takeaway fish and chips around, I have to drive to get fish and chips and would rather drive here than to any fish and chip shop in Epping. On this occasion I was travelling back from an event in Romford and called up to order my food so didn't have to wait as the fish and chips are cooked to order for the most part. Once again we were not disappointed.

The Best fish and chips. The fish is so nice and you actually get the fish that you ordered. The staff are so warm and welcoming. Five stars 🌟 Thank you.

I went to Sea Pearl a month ago just to eat fish and cips, it was very tasty and the atmosphere is also very good and if you go to Anchor, definitely eat fish and cips.

If anyone is visiting Ongar Brentwood and area's around would reccommend this very highly. fish cooked great chip great this fish and chip shop carers for it customers and serves them very well

Quite possibly the best fish and chips shop in Chipping Ongar, the chips have always been fresh and hot whenever I have been, and the fish and chicken have been constantly good too. Very good staff as well.

We shared a large fish and chips, mushy peas and a veggie burger between 4 of us. Should have got more chips. Peas were delicious! Small pot but really tasty. Veggie burger was OK. But everything else was really good 👍

Great genuine southern fried chicken (halal as well). The chips have been made the traditional chipshop way without cutting corners. The cod bites were moist fresh and absolutely delicious! 5* for the foods mentioned above!

This Fish and Chip shop is the business. Food is cooked fresh. Can also order over the phone to place an order and get a ticket number. I am a regular visitor every two weeks

Smothered my chips with vinegar without asking, then said they asked but I was on the phone. So rude and refused to swap the chips….I hate vinegar! Will not be going back fish cake was also hard and overcooked.

Do not bother to order by telephone in advance! If you do you will sit behind anybody who has walked in off the street. You are given an order number that is meaningless. Your money is taken immediately and the staff are rude and arrogant if questioned about their policy. Giving orders taken AFTER yours precedence An absolute joke and rude to boot! Shocking customer service

Man cooking was a bit abrupt. The fish cake didn’t taste of fish and the sausage in batter was horrible and greasy. Threw them away!

This place has the most AMAZING chips and anything that goes with those chips. I love Haddock and it is always cooked beautifully here - they also do everything else you expect from your chippy, including some very good burgers, and grilled/fried chicken. Whenever I am in the area this is one treat I can't help but let myself have! The staff are lovely too!!! 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Has to be one of the best fish and chip shops, fish always lovely and moist, chips are outstanding. Also, the pork ribs are a must they are big and succulent with a great bbq sauce. Probably the best ribs I have eaten in Essex. Strongly recommend Anchor in Ongar. Keep up the good work guy’s

Tonight my wife and I bought cod and chios twice at a cost of £17. Tmmfish was very dry and the chips were of a poor quality, with black pieces in them. We are not going use them again

Very nice people offering really good quality fish and chips. And they open on a Sunday too which is a result.

A bit expensive but that being said you can't knock the portions and quality! They do some great non-fish dishes and I can highly recommend the ribs, hot wings and the burger. Staff always friendly and service is good considering the demand!

So decided to get a takeaway from here as wanted something quick. Have eaten from here before and been ok never great. But last night we got a takeaway I had a burger which was fine but smothered in burger sauce which ruined it as I didn’t ask for that. My OH got chicken and ribs and ate it fine but a short while after was literally running back and fourth to the toilet as he couldn’t stop being sick and also had a stomach ache! He didn’t eat anything else that day which could of made him ill so must have been this - I won’t usually write a review but I’m this case I felt I had to it was just awful! & we will never get food from here again!

Best fish and chips in Essex! Fish is always perfect and the chips are spot on. They have really come into their own through lock down refusing to shut. Hat off to you guys

Firstly they got my order wrong and then when I went back to get it corrected, they had an attitude about telling me I was wrong. I then found THREE bodily hairs in my chips, I refused to eat them, wasted £5 and a trip! Invest in some sleeves/gloves. Won’t be visiting again.

These guys are quite good, but they do get rather busy at times. Parking is at a premium unless its quite late, then you can often park outside for a short time. We phones ahead the other day, but it didn't really help as they still prepared the food on arrival. It was a good job they did, as the phone call seemed to cause more confusion than help. They worked it out in the end, will no doubt use again when local.

I found they were a little expensive for a sausage in batter and chips it came to £5, also you have to wait quiet a while for your food. The parking is very in safe as it is right next to the bottle neck in Ongar

Phoned in our usual order, haddock and chips. Told 15 minutes wait, on arrival the cointer staff had just finished frying the fish so we knew it would be hot and tasty. This is the best fish and chip shop by far.

This is still the best fish and chip takeaway in our area.Cooked to order, large haddock and chips for the price they charge can't be beaten and if you phone your order through, it's ready to collect within 10 minutes.Only real problem is parking as the road is very busy.

Once again, the Anchor Fish and Chip shop in Ongar served up a delicious, freshly cooked battered cod and excellent chips – enough for three meals and I have a big appetite!At £8.50 the cost was reasonable too making this an excellent value for money meal as the queue out of the door testifies.Even with four staff working they couldn’t keep up with demand from customers at 9pm on a Friday evening but only one person in the queue was complaining – a lad about 10-years-old who kept asking when his fish cake would be ready because he really liked fish cakes from here. Now that’s a great recommendation.

This is the only place to go in Ongar for takeaway fish and chips. All freshly cooked and served by a very friendly staff. Highly recommended.

We just had food from there I'm a chef and I would never serve up what we just got from there and keep my job hard chips refryed dry fish and the curry sauce was more sauce than curry won't be going back there again we shall drive into north Weald from now on

I popped in today to pick up our usual Haddock and Chips, I'd ordered these by phone some 10 minutes earlier. The very friendly chef was already wrapping up HUGE portions of delicious piping hot fish and chips for me to take home.

Just finished work, so hungry, no where is open. The opening times sign stated they closed 10 minutes ago but the lights are still on as the workers are cleaning up the shop. Decided to try our luck anyway and the lovely worker behind the counter was understanding and served us. What a selfless and extremely kind thing to do, much appreciated. Thankyou.

As our local Fish & Chip shop, I was amazed to find no listing on Trip Advisor recommending the top quality fish and chips, presented in good quality batter, served by friendly staff in a very clean and tidy Take Away.

Don't eat there the staff are very rude and aggressive save your money and eat else where. Very poor customer services and so rude I can't believe the way they talk to their customers.
