Ambiente Tapas in York

Visited pre theatre trip and took advantage of the 6 tapas for £25 offer . We ordered another dish off the normal menu which we didn’t really need as portions were very generous . All well presented and delicious . Lovely setting , friendly staff and excellent food well worth a visit

I had a wonderful experience at ambiente tapas in york. Our waitress was Sophie Darlow, and she ensured that me and my girlfriend had a memorable experience. She was very attentive to our needs and the service was fast and thorough; she was friendly, helpful and a very lovely girl. We will definitely come again!!!!

Excellent food.Full of flavour and texture, vegan and vegetarian options. Excellent service. The only minus was the rose sangria because every time it tastes more and more like plain water.

This is the original tapas bar in a small chain of restaurants in York and other cities. We have been coming here since it first opened and always enjoyed it. This visit was no exception. We sat in the upstairs area and enjoyed all of the dishes along with the friendly and efficient service.

We thoroughly enjoyed our "early doors" tapas . I should just say that the decor was very tired and grubby and the place could do with freshening up.

Called in during tge afternoon to alter a Booking and was met by a very friendly and helpful ( Louise I think 🤔) who did it with no fuss. On the night the food was excellent and as tge January offer was on ws excellent value for money. The young lady who served us ( Laura I think 🤔) was great, very friendly and professional and a great advert for tge restaurant. All in all a great experience and hopefully we will return very soon.Well done all.

We were really looking forward to eating here tonight and considered it part of our mid week break away in York. It was a major disappointment!!!. We waited at least 15 minutes before the 1st course of bread came out. This was dry and totally unappetising. We were then left waiting for ages and were just about ready to get up and leave when the rest of our meal arrived. The food wasn't too bad but nothing special and one course was completely missing. When we pointed this out to the waiter he agreed to take this off the bill. If the food and service is this bad on a week day in January I can't imagine how bad it would be at peak times!!

Good food, service, atmosphere. What’s not to like?

Visited York with my sister yesterday. Weather not as expected. Shopping experience soggier than prepared for. Cut retail therapy short and headed early to lunch. Lovely relaxed and friendly place. Staff were lovely, attentive but not overpowering . They seemed to be able to judge our table, when we were ready for drink order, ready to choose meal, check food was good. Hard to describe, other than relaxed and comfortable pace. Food was beautiful. Fresh and tasty - the prawns were unbelievably fresh, and perfectly cooked. Wine lovely if unpronounceable - definitely so by glass two. Bored the waiter stiff with our chat and he in turn kept us better informed of the conditions outside than the Weather channel had, We were there for 3 hours but could have stayed all day if it were not for the Train home. Just lovely.

Ordered lots of tapas with 2 sherry flights and all enjoyed the experience. Staff were super lovely, tapas were great (steak Gambas and goats cheese especially) .Pork belly a little dry but used sauces from the other dishes to make it palatable. We'll be back soon

Like a sherry then you will love this place… We popped in for a quick drink and after talking to the colleagues in this place decided on a little more! So we both ordered a different flight of sherry (1 dry, the other medium dry). We also decided after talking to the waiter to order a side of olives and almonds, what a great move they really complimented each other so much! Will definitely visit again only next time for a meal also…

Simply the best restaurant in York. Great food and excellent service in a lovely ambient setting. We dine here every year for our wedding anniversary, it’s a special place for us.

Amazing food and great service from the staff. Asked for a recommendation for a sweet Sherry and the waitress was really knowledgeable. The Sherry she recommended was perfect. Can't wait to go back for another meal.

My friend who lives in York recommended this restaurant to me and we had a great meal here. They have a selection of plant based tapas as well as a few starter style plates which are vegan friendly. All the food we had was amazing and so fresh, I particularly liked the tomato bread & patatas bravas. We booked in advance as was advised it would get busy, the staff were really lovely however the food did take quite a while to come out so would be wary if you are looking for a quick pit stop!

Fine Iberian cuisine with various Tapas, mixed sharing plates and vegetarian options. Excellent Wine selection and exceptional range of Sherries.

If you are in York, this place is a great place to eat. The food is wonderful. I recommend the feta with chilli and honey, the stuffed peppers, the tempura gambas, the meatballs, the chorizo and chicken skewer, the patatas bravas and any of the croquetta. I'm a very happy, very full customer!

Fantastic tapas and wine bar. All the staff were excellent. Food was great with a very good selection of wines. This was our second visit and will definitely return when next in York

Craving some Tapas and Sangria, we stumbled across this gem and got a great seat, great food and Sangria. The chicken dish is really nice ( can't recall the name)... As was the bravas and service. Plenty of custom with seating across multiple areas including upstairs.

Honestly some of the best food I have ever eaten: the beef was excellent, the manchego, the halloumi, the almond tart, the cheesecake - all absolutely excellent. Nice relaxed atmosphere as well, with *quiet* appropriate music in the background. Waitress worked hard to ensure options were gluten free too.

Absolutely delicious tapas! Visited as part of York Restaurant Week and the deal was very reasonable but regular prices aren’t expensive either. Great selection of veggie tapas. All six dishes we ordered were very tasty, and the basque cheesecake we had for dessert was outstanding. Highly recommend!

We had our wedding meal here, after our elopment ceremony. They could not have been more welcoming and helpful, especially with our baby's dietary requirements. Really good vegan selection, so much available for me to eat.

Ate here on my last day, very good food, ordered 3 tapas, cooked well and nicely presented. It was delicious. Friendly staff, only downside they don't take cash.

So glad we found this restaurant. Had four tapas dishes all good. Recommend the chincharron and champinones manchego . As a sherry lover I found myself in sherry heaven! One of the best selections and it's a shame not in other tapas bars as sherry is a traditional drink for tapas. Found a bobal wine from Valencia on the wine list. Something else not found everywhere as it is an excellent red. Service was good and overall a very pleasant lunchtime experience in nice surroundings.

Great food and tapas choices here which were beautifully cooked and presented. We ate at around 4.30 so not very busy but such enjoyable food.

Have previously visited the Fossgate location and the Goodramgate one is just as good - phenomenal food and very friendly service. We also had a couple of dietary requirements at our table, and the waitress took the time to walk through the menu and ensure everyone found something suitable. Would highly recommend for an enjoyable and reasonably-priced evening out in York

What. a great find. This Tapas restaurant served a wide variety of choices, all of which came quickly and were fresh and tasty. Some of the choices were much larger servings than expected which is always a shocker! Service friendly, efficient and excellent. Tapas is not my go to cuisine, but this was a great experience in a chilled atmosphere on a very busy weekend.

Visited with a small group for a business dinner. The restaurant is cosy and intimate and the menu offered a great range. As a coeliac with a dairy allergy and menieres disease, the servers were great in ensuring no salt was added to my choices and allergens were clearly marked. Recommend for any allergy sufferers!

If ypu are looking for a chilled place to relax and have amazing food. You are in the right place ! It's absolutely delicious. This place is saved as favourite, if I ever come back to York.

A serendipitous meeting led us to find out that there was another Ambiente after we visited the Fossgate site in March. In a less industrial decor we once again had a selection of great Tapas and sherry. The dates wrapped in bacon and stuffed with Picos blue cheese were a great starter. The mussels were very highly flavoured with a great Picada, the secreto iberico also served with top notch Romescu sauce and finally the Albondigas in a rich densely smokey tomato and olive sauce. The portobello mushrooms were superb too. Staff knowledge of both food and sherry good. Great service and brigade turn out attractive as well as delicious food. Return visit Sept 24 and still some of the best tapas we've found. Long term Staff are taken to Spain and really have a passion for the product and the Romesco is as good as ever.

Booked for lunch whilst on a day trip to York. We first visited this restaurant a few years ago and had fond memories and we were not disappointed on our return. The restaurant is small & cosy & Jodie our server was very efficient. All the food was excellent & very tasty. Will definitely visit again if in York.

Ordered 5 dishes here last nite 23/8 food was lovely wine was great & service was excellent served & chatted with Natasha who was lovely the atmosphere has a real Spanish tapas ambience hence why the name will definitely be back when in York again or even later today

Great food, many options, including vegan and vegetarian ones. The service was fast and our waitress was very sweet. The atmosphere was great as well- I highly recommend.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our Sunday night meal at Ambiente, Goodramgate, York. We were well looked after by the charming staff and, between us, managed 2 starters, 3 mains, 2 desserts, wine and coffee! Phew!! We first discovered Ambiente in Hull when visiting our grandson at Hull University and were well impressed so the York restaurant was a natural choice for us. Do give it a try - they serve all ages and it’s very good!

This restaurant with a menu in Spanish caught our attention and we decided to enter. The waiters were all very nice, but they didn't speak Spanish. The food comes in small tapas-style portions and you can't fill yourself with just one plate. In general, the food was average: the ham croquettes had practically no ham, they were more potato and béchamel. Vegan empanadas are nothing more than rolls (photo). The brothy rice was good but it wasn't soupy and tasted too much like chorizo.

What a great little restaurant. It's very charming. And the food is so delicious. Everything we ordered was absolutely fantastic. And the staff are great and very knowledgeable. Highly recommended

Food was good but not many options for Vegetarians. Some portion sizes were massive and some really tiny for same price. We couldn't understand the logic. For e.g. Patatas bravas portion is tiny but Spanish omelet is big for similar price.

My friend and I were enjoying a lovely meal when my friend unexpectedly became ill ( nothing to do with the food!! ). I would like to thank the staff who were brilliant. Also fellow diners who helped us. Everyone was so understanding. We ended up at the hospital on the advice of the ambulance crew. My friend is now recovered. We will be going to Ambiente Goodramgate when I next visit my friend in York.Thank you one and all.

Great service and some excellent dishes but sadly let down by the gambas and deep fried stuffed peppers. The oil wasn’t hot enough and consequently both ended up not crisp and quite greasy.

Another great meal at Ambiente Goodramgate! Lovely, authentic tapas, good wines and beers and excellent service from Natasha and Rob. Manager, Louise, is doing a great job. Look forward to our next visit.

The food was delicious, the best tapas I’ve had in a long time. It’s a shame the interiors are tired and too hot.

Oh my. I really think this was the best meal I have ever eaten. The tastes in each of the seven dishes was exquisite. Prawns and calamari cooked to perfection. It was the last day of our mini break so we pushed the boat out even though we were full to bursting and indulged in a perfect crème brûlée to top off the evening. The staff couldn’t be more helpful and ready to indulge in a little conversation after the meal. If you visit York, one of the top places to wine and dine must be this gem! Thank you for a memorable end to my and my daughters weekend together.

The food was beautiful and we love the restaurant we have visited a few times now and love to come back when we are in York, however I feel as though the service was a bit discriminatory especially from the male staff the restaurant was quiet and only ourselves a younger couple and a older couple were eating, we were practically ignored by the staff and we unfortunately were not greeted upon arriving , our plates were not cleared, we were not advised of the specials like the other couple were and we were not spoken in general conversation it overall was disappointing as we love the restaurant and have previously shared our praise online on Instagram which was then shared by the restaurant themselves to their page, unfortunately it was disappointing that this experience was different,

We had a really lovely meal here. We were really impressed with the huge range of dishes on the menu, especially in comparison to most other tapas restaurants. From the selection we ordered, the quality did not disappoint and portions were generous too. Equally staff were kind and accommodating. Would 100% return when next visiting York.

We had been craving tapas for a while and decided to check out this restaurant while visiting York. There was a really good vegetarian selection. We went for the Patatas Bravas, Queso de Cabra, Brocheta Vegano, Sham-Bas Gambas, Feta al Horno, and the Calabaza Queso Azul. Everything was exceptional! Would definitely visit again!

Inattentive staff. Waited 30 mins for drinks after reminding staff 3 times that we had ordered drinks. The special salad was tiny but delicious but expensive at £7:95 However the house salad was cheaper and twice the size. Paella was absolutely delicious and value for money.

We ordered 2 tapas and a seafood paella to share for 2 people. The tapas were tasty and well cooked. The paella looked amazing (even though we had to wait an hour for it whereas the waitress said it would take between 30 and 40 mins), however the seafood was quite dry, good taste but would not order it again. Great alcohol free beer and good price for what we ordered.

The food was good and it's a good setting. Service gets marked down because tax was added to the bill. It looks as if the menu prices don't include VAT, which seems a bit questionable. I think we were also brought more expensive wine than we ordered. It made for a disproportionately expensive evening. And yes, we should have queried it at the time, but we were mellow and relaxed, it didn't really register until later

Perfect meal to end a tiring day exploring York. The food was utterly delicious. I strongly recommend the Sherry ice cream to finish. Truly wonderful. Do book well in advance, as the food, service and atmosphere are so good, you won't get a table otherwise.

We had one lovely member of staff who took our order and payment, others looked like they didnt want to be there. Waited a hour for potatoes all other dishes had been finished before they had arrived. Waited 15 minutes for a pepsi and vodka. Also if meat is to come rare it should be advertised especially with Pork. Overall food was tasty. But the service is poor (minus the one lady).

We've had our date nights at Goodramgate Ambiente for at least 10 years. I guess you could say we are happy with the food, atmosphere and service. We like to try restaurants all over york but Ambiente is our go to restaurant. I can honestly say we have never had a bad experience. Highly recommended.

Delicious Spanish tapas with a Moroccan influence. Staff went out of their way to fit us in despite us having no booking on a very busy night. Lorna was a...mazing. Thank you all for making us feel so welcome and for feeding us so well.

Great little bar with delicious Tapas and fab beer, and the most delightful host imaginable. We had two little dogs with us and they were spoiled even more than we were. Highly recommend this little gem.

First visit to this restaurant. Very fruendly greeting on arrival, nice looking decor. Our server Lorna was very helpful and attentive, talked us through the menu and some recommendations. The food itself was lovely, very tasty and decent portions for 2 people, managed to share a dessert between us. Will definitely be going back.

Not cheap but food, ambience and service were all pretty good. Of course, could be better, especailly with offering value as compared to Spain it's 3 times more expensive for same food.
