Just a great chip shop a must to try very friendly staff

Spotted this chippy the other week and thought I’d give it a try, there was multiple awards ect on the walls so I really felt like I was in for a treat. I was taken back by the prices but thought if it’s good food then it’s worth it. I got 3 scallops, a spam fritter, fish and chips, chips and sausage chips and curry… the spam fritter must have been cut with a razor blade it was so thin. The curry sauce was honestly the worst thing I had ever tasted in my life and left me nearly gagging after my 1st mouthful. The fish was dry and had no flavour. All the chips were covered in grease and were hardly cooked, it’s fair to say I wasted a ridiculous amount of money on a disgusting dish that should feature on the next I’m a celeb get me out of here!

Best haddock by a square mile if it isn't sold out when you go, which by my standard, is half the times I've been. Including tonight.

Fabulous value meals and very high quality. Cash only 2023/2024.

I haven't been to this chippy for over 12 months and was surprised that the place was empty when I arrived as on previous visits it was always busy. The service was quick, as I was the only customer, and friendly but that's about the only positive thing I can say about the place. The fiood was tasteless and portion size small. I won't be returning.

Love this place, great food, friendly staff and really decent price. Always fresh when we eat in too.

Never been before, nipped in as it was half term and the kids wanted breakfast. To be welcomed with friendly staff 😁. We was told to be seated as we was eating in. We wait 5 minutes for a someone to take our order. Why we was waiting for our meals, the staff may such an effort to speak to me and my family 😁 which was really nice as you don't get this in most restaurants, especially when you have children. Food was amazing, served on hot plates too which is great. Kids really enjoyed it too. Overall the staff, food and service was excellent and I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone. I will definitely be going back. Thank you to all the staff at Alisons restaurant for your outstanding service.

Good place for fish but why does it depend on who ever cooks it sometimes the batter is perfect but went in last week and the batter was hard and tasted burnt , why can't the staff Have the same batter recipe

Just got home hubby and me.no one wanted to cook.so we had heated Allison's thought we would give it a try.our meals arrived pensioner special for us both.what a surprise the batter on the fish was amazing portions said small neither us could clear the plate lovely meal we had the fish one we found it now it was a credit to the young man .highly reccomend this hidden eatery with its American diner decco we will go back soon it's the best fish n chips we ever had thank you so much see you soon

We went yesterday for lunch and found it to be lacking in a few things. Firstly, the reception was not the friendliest, it was as if we were intruding and she didn't really want us to be there, it was quite early so maybe she wasn't quite prepared but still, even a false smile would have helped... The place itself was absolutely freezing which made it uncomfortable. The chips were typical chippy chips, no better or worse than I've had before but was disappointed with the fish. I ordered jumbo haddock and whilst it came on a huge plate and filled half of it , it was a lot of batter and not the nice clean, crispy batter, it was very hard and crunchy with not much taste and the fish was very thin and not at all soft and flaky. I don't think we will be going back but there seemed to be a couple of regulars coming in as we were leaving so maybe we were unlucky...

Ordered 2 full size breakfasts with toast, tea an frothy coffee for a family member. Portions were huge and breakfast was delicious. They were very satisfied.

Bought chips pudding peas n gravy cost £4.60 wow can't believe only half portion of chips, if I could put a picture up on here I would do, first time I have been here an it's the last, potatoes cost pennies !!

Ordered food today chips were re heated and burnt , fish ok , ordered a steak pudding which was worst ever, peas were watery and gravy lumpy , despite being busy can’t understand why food so poor won’t be wasting my money here again

Not the best this time was looking forward to going here today as last time I went it was lovely but today the chips were raw hard the curry sauce was bland and lumpy not very good will give it one more chance next time I’m in the area We all have bad days hopefully better next or will be the last.

I have been a little disappointed recently and felt the standards had dropped but when we visited this week the fish and chips were excellent! Just like they used to be. Helpful, friendly and professional staff too. Keep it up!!

Best fish and chips, I've had in years, edit this place has gone really down hill, just had throw the last lot in the bin the chips were raw,

Food came 2 hours after ordering which was somewhat understood under the circumstances. The food then came with missing items or wrong items and what looked like undercooked food with awful portions for price. After going to the chippy ourselves we was refused a refund and had the missing items thrown in the bag whilst the server walked away. Shocking service, shocking quality, shocking portions.

I ordered online for two meals and was told it would be here before the hour was out. Two hrs later were still waiting so I decided to cancel. I messaged them but never even had a reply. I was trying to buy local but was very disappointed.

When you want to complain at the time but simply too much to complain about.... The tables were dirty, the cutlery was stained, dirty and had dried food on. The washer was overflowing with dirty pots. When placing our order the staff member was so rude and was texting on her phone the entire time and missed part of our order. Another staff member was swearing behind the counter. Not wearing hair nets and they should when handling food. Appalling service and wouldn't be returning again and we liked going there. No idea what has happened but it's gone so down hill.

Lovely meal, plenty of atmosphere, the decor is really nice, would definitely recommend, we returned for a lunch and that was equally as good

best chippy ive had in years .. fish is proper fish with nice crispy batter and chips are proper traditional chippy chips ,fritters (smacks)were delicious to ,highly reccomend this chippy if you are looking for proper fish and chips and they deliver which is a massive plus

Decided to have a change and try this fish and chip shop, but were sadly disappointed. The batter on the fish was soggy, the chips were overdone and rather tasteless. Most of the food ended up being wasted as it just wasn't enjoyable. Unfortunately, I can't see us eating from there again, as it's not a cheap meal to put most of it in the bin.

We go 2 to 6 times a months, since they opened, less now. It was really good to begin with. But it just can't stay consistent from the size of the fish and portions of chips if your stupid to order a chicken breast and chips ( no room for chips, in the box!!!) We find the batter under cooked sometimes and sometimes the chips dark, thus over cooked. And why change from cardboard to polystyrene boxes!? It makes the food sweat more!

Good fish and chips, what more do you need. Service was fast, price same as most chippies. Been here twice for takeaway chips, not ate in the restaurant part so can’t comment.

Really friendly staff and great food. Always fresh and just the right amount in the portion. They have a little seating area too if you wanted to sit in.

It was raining and cold so popped in really just for chips and a brew but ended up with lobbys and red cabbage,butterd bread and a brew . Good food ,good service from the guy behind the counter its not just a chippy try it you will like it .I would have gone 5 stars but i intend to go back so theres always room to improve

Visited here with my kids and parents since it opened but last week was the worst visit ever .chips dry ,hard and lukewarm,sausage overdone in all a real let down.On top of this prices have gone up due to spuds price increase but 50p hike on pensioners meal were you get a small portion of chips anyway is a bit much but noticed last week the portion was less as well !!Staff uniforms look grubby and worn and the owner is always shaking nag his hair behind the counter plus a female member of staff is really fouled mouthed in front of kids as well and the owner says nothing.Also only one member on duty numerous times running the take away and cafe is ridiculous as cafe customers have to wait till counter customers to be served before cafe orders are taken so sorry will not be visiting again as since winning Chippy of the Year it has gone downhill .

I hate people who when serving food wipe their noses with the back of their hand and move hair off their face as they are not wearing caps, and I like a white coat to be white not looking like it has not been washed for weeks. shame standards are dropping!

Food was very greasy, fish had to be thrown out as it smelled terrible (and I don’t mean fishy!) For £10 between us I think we eat about 40p worth. Ended up buying a gorgeous Chinese meal from the chippy at the bottom of Ladies Lane, I have forgotten the name but if you have to decide between the two the one of the boss of ladies Lane is streets Ahead of Alison's chippy!!!

Superb place to eat. Clean tidy and very well run by Adam (Alisons son). The staff are very friendly and make everyone feel welcome. The seating is comfortable and the atmosphere is relaxed. Give it a try well deserves the Chippy of the year award for Wigan. 10 out of 10.

Been a few times first time reviewer. I have always enjoyed this chippy, lovely staff and always looks clean. Nice food apart from the peas which are very hard and could with slightly bigger portions of chips.

Place was clean and staff very friendly. Old school chippy, not many left now. Went in at lunch time and was quite busy. Service was quick and couldn't complain about the food. Overall, good visit.

Visited on my own around 1pm. Chose the Fish Chips and Mushy Peas served with a slice of bread and a tea. Not a long wait and very impressed with quality of fish and crispness of batter. Staff were friendly and no rush to leave after plates collected.Worth a visit if you're in Bolton - will give bigger know n names a run for their money

Staff are very friendly, they take time to get to know and really care about their customers. The food here I think is the best chippy tea I've had in years. They even do shepherds pie and lobbies. Apple pie and hot chocolate with marshmallows, I was spoilt for choice. They have a Facebook page, that's what made me want to go. Definitely will be going again
