Akbar's Restaurant in Middlesbrough

Waiter was a bit thick didn't give us enough time to order and then we ordered food stuff came separate. Fish masala was nice and so was the chips. Mango lassi was cheap yaadgaar brand didnt even put ice cubes in it. The keema I told the guy yes I want potato in it came with none and was so spicy as an Apna he should know how we eat it brought the fish masala with no naan to its the little details about helping the customer and suggesting good dishes. Chicken balti or korma we ordered 2 didn't look like my mates enjoyed it and also I threw up straight after and so did my friend outside. Not sure what was going on because the food seemed cooked but this is very unusual and we don't drink we only got mango lassi, water and Pepsi. Overall it was not worth the price nearly £100 and the website says £10-20 each person okay even £60 would be okay next time will only order starters and maybe next time get someone better who can speak to customers properly and put stuff in the right place. Honestly, disappointed I'd only recommend the Bradford one, Middlesbrough is a no go.

The food we ordered was good but coming to the service, they treated like, offering food freely.. Almost every one served same way. Need to improve in costumers receiving. No matter how much the delicious dishes are.

The service was fast but the food was greatly underwhelming - a balti with barely any sauce? I'll not be returning. I was in a party of 5 and now of us had anything good to say about the food.

Live Akbars. Food always good bo matter what day you as indian cooking can diffrer greatly with different chefs . Great staff very attentive. Go here every 2 weeks. Thanks team keep up the good work. The challenge number 1 is awesome

Amazing food, attentive staff very busy but didn't affect the service. Would definitely recommend it. Fabulous menu, something for everyone, and they catered for my life-threatening fish allergy, so definitely worth a visit. Reasonably priced, we had starter, main, and sides with a bottle of wine for 2 adults, which is fantastic with the quality food.

myself and 3 friends were, not impressed by the below average service and quality of food here, we had booked a table at 7pm and there was hardly a person inside we were stuffed into a very cramped window table. After eating we were all in agreement we should of used a local takeaway for better quality food and service. Price? too much considering the food was below what you'd expect.

Food portion compare to prices is not great.Chicken charsi very good in taste but with micro pieces of chicken. Should be renamed as charsi no chicken dish. Same with Charsi lamb. Past experience has been same with other dishes.

Standard Akbar's - you get the same menu across the restaurants. The service was a little slow this time. Also made the mistake of asking for my starters and mains together, thinking it would be quicker. 🤔 The mistake being I got my mains first and the starter later, not what I had planned for sure. The prices are going up every time I visit, takeout prices are the same as sitting in and eating in the restaurant. 🤔 The restaurant was generally clean and tidy. Often busy

We order chefs challenge 1 for £16 which include dessert ice cream me n friend share the food as it’s a big portion after we had the food we ask for dessert after they refused because we two share food . Really bad service.

Booked a table near the window and was given the seat as soon as we entered. The mocktail and starters were amazing . Service was quick and waiters were very helpful and friendly. Will come again .

Middlesbrough's Akbar's offers a fantastic eating experience, from the warm and welcoming atmosphere to the attentive service and delectable menu items including Chicken Biryani. It is a great option for real Indian cuisine because of its generous quantities and dedication to culinary perfection.

On the whole was lovely, didn't appreciate being bullied into a service charge especially when they were going to give me my starter after main course was given. Hence did not appreciate the attitude from staff when we didn't give service charge. It should be a customer choice not asked to give

Can't fault anything about this place. Staff were beyond friendly, food is Amazing. If you want an amazing Curry then this is the place to go.

Nice Indian restaurant, good selection of dishes on the menu, serves the biggest naan breads ever, good service.

Disappointing but not suprised. Seems like most reviews in the recent months have state the same . Ordered lamb and was given beef for both curries in a pool of oil. The portions were inconsistent. Over charged by £6 and no reciept provided. Unfortunately won't be taking out from akbars again.

The food is remarkably delicious.It’s one of the few very authentic tasting Indian restaurant in Middlesborough.I really love their samosa chaat it’s literally sooo good.It taste like the ones I use to eat in Kathmandu, Nepal.And I really love their chicken briyana it’s divine!! It’s my go restaurant when I want to eat Indian food.

I had the worst, tasteless food at Akbar restaurant when I ordered haleem and butter chicken; it was a very disappointing experience.

The two of us went on a Wednesday evening and despite being busy we were shown to our table quite quickly. The starters were fresh and tasty but one of the main courses didn’t seem very fresh. The taste wasn’t outstanding, lacking in depth of flavour. Service was good but on the whole nothing above the norm. Both of us had issues digesting the meal, which is never a good feeling. The mango lassi was nice. Possible the quality has decreased since we were last here a year ago ?

The food was excellent, service was great and the atmosphere was really good. A very nice restaurant with a good selection of dishes! Oh, the Naans are massive!!

I visited last week after work on two occasions. I dined in and collected my order also. It’s not too bad. Not the best presentation when l sat in but it was fine. It wasn’t the best service but I compare this to this to the Leeds and Bradford Akbars. I would probably go back.

Best place to have authentic south Asian food. Good quantities and taste is the best so far we had. Can organize birthday parties too. Worth the prize.

Food was ok, not the best I've had, but certainly not the worst either. Service was fantastic it was super busy in here which I've not seen in a while so it must be good.

Never in my life have I been so sure someone had put a laxative in my food, sounds funny but thank god for Asda Stockton never will I go there again.

Expensive! Quantity is also less we can compromise on quantity but couldn't do that on taste . Useless taste .Just a big Naaan doesn't make your restaurant a fancy.... Atmosphere was quite good.

Absolutely fuming! Booked a table here due to the one in york closing after a "fire" and never re opening! Well what a huge mistake, we waited 1 hr 45 mins just to order poppadoms! The waiter was beyond useless and it became quite clear we didnt fit in there! The food was cold and vile, we complained several times yet nothing was done! Pre ordered a birthday dessert this was brought out eventually but 3 times to the wrong person and the music was strange and clearly not the traditional happy birthday music British people would understand! At this point we were done .. basically dont bother with this place if you like good food and some sort of service! Shambles the whole evening was ruined!!! Vile place

Went for a sit in meal on Wednesday 21/6 - ordered Chicken Tikka Makhani, a bit too spicey than should of been, the disappointing part was the Mushroom Rice, it was luke warm, tasted that he had come out of a packet and put in the microwave as it had a cardboard taste. I do not know if there are different chefs on a weekday, but the same meal i had prior 2 weeks ago was amazing. The Keema Nans though need addressing as no meat inside at all.

Staff very friendly, food was amazing, the ambience is not great, but okay, been told by the waiter the place gonna get refurbished, I am eagerly waiting for that to be done, other than that no fault we enjoyed the meal.

Went for a celebration and the food was spot on, the tikka Malakhani was amazing, could not fault even reasonably prices approx £26 a head with drinks and dessert

Started OK, but then main courses brought out. Squeezed onto the table when starters weren't finished by less than pleasant cook. Have had much better meals, evident by how much was left. Won't return.

Took a while for someone to come to take our order, another 10 minutes for the drinks to come, then when the food came, had to wait again for paratha, meal was nice enough and staff were pleasant,

Not bad had better, husband had chicken biriyani bit tasteless and the sauce only had chickpeas in it no other veg and i had keema balti which was very dry just mince nothing else in it

Food not upto standard, naan was dry and lacking flavour, curry was nothing special

Overrated for me like. Last time I went I chose the "phall challenge", wasn't even that hot really. I had to ask for the 'certificate' as they didn't really know much about it. The next table saw me getting it and asked the waiter if they "could just get one anyway for a laugh" which was given straight away. There was no "special prize" neither.. Not surprising really as the curry was so bland. I wouldn't recommend nor go again. People may disagree, but yous crack on if you fancy..

Ordered poppadoms and pickles the onion salad was one of the strangest I've ever had and not in a good way! Onto the mains we ordered 4 curries which all four were very dry with no sauce the rice tasted like uncle bens from a packet and to top it all off the nan bread came out on a ridiculous stand which takes over the table ☹️ all in all not great at all and will not be returning next time I'm in town.

Had a decent experience with food, specially family Naan. The food was bit oily . 3 stars as they took ages to get pilau rice. The staff did not bother to return and ask the experience and we had to call them repeatedly to order our food. Would say a decent experience

Haven’t been for a while, but very disappointed with everything! Ordered a mild lamb masala but wouldn’t like to guess what ‘meat’ was actually used and came way too hot! Naan, rice and curry all very poor! Will not be returning in a hurry!

Parking a nightmare . But always good food. Had the challenge 1 . Always good normally buy noticed less meat in it now and more potato 🥔 such a shame they have done this . Will still go back though . Always nice staff

Took the food challenge 1. The meat was a combination of beef/lamb pieces and shreds of chicken with potato. It did not feel totally OK to me as I found some part of lamb and chicken which is meant to discarded during food preparation. At the end of my meal, I was informed that the card machine was not working. Luckily I was carrying my cash card thatday contrary to mostdays using mobile to pay. I went out and got the cash. The experience was like a drop of vinegar in a pot of milk. There are a lot of good things going on for the restaurant and I would like to think it will learn how to be consistent and achieve that standard it deserves.

We had an excellent time, staff super friendly, food piping hot and very tasty, drinks a bit costly though, great atmosphere, obviously a very popular place, because it was very busy, most definitely recommended, we will be visiting again sometime no doubt. Tip = Parking is a nightmare, so plan ahead for your visit, best you organise a drop off and pick up time.

States very quickly and efficiently, placed orders smoothly without problems.. however the dished that were brought out were incorrect.. when questioning about the order.. told to just enjoy 😉.. my personal favourite part was the naan bread tree! Nice touch.. created a good Indian ambience. Did miss a candle this should be addressed ASAP in my opinion.

A great venue for a celebration with work colleagues. Food was amazing with ice-cold beers to wash it down. If you haven't yet visited, you're missing out!

Great food and good prices. Sadly the one in Newcastle is closed so we have to go to Akbars Middlesbrough.It offers a wide range of curries and a good a range for vegetarians too. They are not that flexible with adding extras to food, for example a keema and cheese naan would not be available. But overall, would recommend if you want a nice Indian.

Tried the Biryani and Chicken Masala. The taste was very disappointing, I had higher expectations since they are speciality dishes. The flavor, texture and color of the dishes were bad. The Garlic naan barely had garlic on it.

How did I not tell everyone about this place! Superbly served mouth-watering dishes! Add water, beer(lots of beer) Great food just take lots of friends an eat until you can't fit anymore in! Go by taxi as it a little difficult to park nearby, super night even if its raining, as you will just open up an relax. Helpful staff nothing to much trouble, just GO!!

How very disappointing. After a wonderful meal last week, we went back tonight. Big mistake and henceforth… I will take a pass. An order of pays which contained ONLY bones. Like they washed the pot and served the water and left over bones. Disgraceful. And the staff tried to tell me paya was bones only. Anyways … thanks but no more Akbar’s Middlesbrough.

Horrible service and food very disappointing

The food was good and very tasty, the staff very friendly , but we had to wait too much for the food ( starters and main dishes) , people that arrived later than us , got their food much earlier. Prices is ok, it isn't an expensive place to have a meal.

It’s been lovely experience at Akbers as always. They keep maintaining high standards of food, flavour and service in all over the country. One of the best I’d say. Would definitely recommend.
