The first time to AG’s although we have visited the Reflections restaurant in the same location on a few previous occasions. We had Christmas lunch, and the whole experience from arrival, with drinks in the Champagne Lounge to departure was amazing. The quality and presentation of the food was exceptional as was the high level of service and attention from the staff. Highly recommended on every level

This was one of the worse food experiences I've ever had. We had one option and that was the ten course "tasting journey". It started off with a crab dish that was very average but ok and followed by the langoustine which i did enjoy but after that it was all very disappointing. The Grange Farm Venison almost made me gag, I had one bite and It was so hard to chew, I honestly just wanted to spit it out but was too embarrassed.

Brilliant taster menu. Having eaten in michelin star restaurants this was definitely of equal quality of food and service. Only issue is having room for all the lovely food!

This restaurant is trying very hard to be in the style of a Michelin starred fine dining restaurant. It is a lovely room with good service. But the food was at best average, and sometimes not even that. Forget all the fancy stuff and remember that the food is all-important.

Alexander House is a beautiful property in the Sussex countryside. Expanded over recent years to now include an impressive spa. We visited for Sunday lunch at AGs restaurant. Parking was easy and we walked through to be greeted by the doorman who showed us to the restaurant. The restaurant is small, decor is dated and there was a very sad looking small table decoration on each table. There was only one waiter who was dressed in a checked blue suit and brown shoes which seemed wrong in such a traditional setting. We tried to order a glass of Veuve Cliquot from the drinks menu but this wasn’t available. Our starters were underwhelming and served in a bowl that looked like you’d give your dog his breakfast in it rather than lunch for guests in a five star hotel. Main courses were good with generous portion sizes (although one was lukewarm) but dessert was delicious. It is a beautiful historic setting and overall our experience of lunch in this restaurant just wasn’t up to the standard that it should have been.

We visited this restaurant on 27th June 2021 for Sunday Lunch, to celebrate my wife's 70th birthday. When making the reservation I explained that my wife has a wheat intolerance and would therefore require a Gluten Free menu. I was assured that this would not be a problem and that most of the items on the menu could be served Gluten Free. When we arrived alarm bells started to ring as none of the items on the menu were marked as Gluten Free. This is now pretty standard in most decent restaurants. When asked, the waiter explained what was available and my wife chose the soup followed by the roast beef for the main course. Whilst the choice of non Gluten Free bread that is offered is very good, the actual Gluten Free bread option is extremely poor. Only white Gluten Free bread was provided and the quality was not good. Once again our experience is that many restaurants make the effort to serve very good Gluten Free bread, but that was sadly not the case here. When the roast beef arrived it was accompanied by a yorkshire pudding, despite being told when ordering that we would have to have the meal without the yorkshire pudding, as this was not Gluten Free,. However, when the meal arrived there was a yorkshire pudding on the plate! When asked if this was Gluten Free we were told that it was not. This is deeply concerning that a fine dining restaurant like this, made the mistake of serving the main course with a non Gluten Free item included and was not able to offer a Gluten Free yorkshire pudding considering the reservation was made over a month in advance. Although this was removed from the plate no alternative was offered. Once again our experience is that most restaurants serving this type of dish will serve a non gluten free yorkshire pudding, so why is it so difficult for this restaurant to not do the same? The choice of Gluten Free desserts was very disappointing. Initially my wife was only offered ice cream! When we queried this the waiter did not know if any alternative was available but agreed to check with the chef. The best they could come up with was the Creme Brulee dish without the shortbread, which my wife reluctantly accepted. From this unfortunate experience it is quite clear that this restaurant does not cater for customers that require Gluten Free food. Instead of making the effort to prepare dedicated Gluten Free dishes, which are clearly labelled on their menu, they appear happy to take the easy route and simply remove the relevant items from the dish and make no attempt to replace them with an alternative, On a different issue I was also disappointed to be charged the full price of the children's menu for my one year old Grandson for a small plate of pasta! To be fair, the rest of our (non Gluten Free) party enjoyed our meal but our fine dining experience was very disappointing given that they were made aware that the birthday girl was Gluten Free and made very little effort to accommodate this, despite assuring me that this would not be problem, when the reservation was made over a month in advance. We were honoured and lucky enough to be present at Johnny Stanford’s debut as Head Chef and go on his 9 course tasting journey at AG’s at Alexander House after much change during COVID. Fear not. The restaurant is in good hands. What an experience. Michelin standard. The humbly named snacks at the start made us sit up and listen - particularly the innocent looking cone of goats ‘cheese’ and truffle followed by the crab with crab jelly - understatements all! What an incredible blast of flavour! Then put away your prejudices about beetroot - I don’t want to give away the surprise just try it. Dish after beautiful dish served by the gentlemanly Zoltan. I’m going to say it: I had a best ever! The chocolate mousse. Of course it wasn’t just a chocolate mousse. But that’s for me to know and you to find out. I’m excited for you :)

We had dinner there but multiple things went wrong. Remember it is a restaurant which was rewarded a Rosette Award three times I believe. So you should expect some standards. First we had to wait 30 minutes for our wine. The restaurant was not really busy that time because it was already late. The starter arrived and we asked for pepper because I like my Steak Tartar quite peppery. Only after asking 2 more times and after about 10 minutes someone brought it. The main issue was the main course. We ordered the Duck. The portion was tiny. The waiter recommended to order some sides before. The duck arrived and then...nothing. We started eating because the food was already lukewarm. We were waiting and asking for the sides but nothing came. We finished our duck and and about 10 minutes later the sides arrived which we refused. Such a shame because the food, starter and the main course, was good. The waiter and manager apologised and offered a glass of Champagne. We decided not to have it. Nice she offered it but we were not after free drinks. The process was just wrong. Inform your guests that something went wrong with the sides instead of letting them wait. Those things must not happen in such a restaurant but we are all human right. They took a significant amount off our bill which was Ok but we would rather had a proper nice dinner especially because it was a birthday dinner. Any way, I am sure this was an exception and the kitchen and staff can do much better.

We had a 2 night stay at the Alexander House Hotel where AG's is situated and ate there on the second night. The restaurant is comfortable - nicely decorated with plenty of space between the tables. Jacqui had an alternative vegetarian Artichoke and Salsa starter - which was excellent, and I had scallops with a miso and kimchi sauce - scallops were probably 30 seconds over cooked but still acceptable - the sauces were excellent. For mains we both had duck with quince sauce which was nicely cooked and flavoursome. For dessert Jacqui had a sticky toffee pudding with banana ice cream which was exceptional as far as she was concerned and I had a chocolate mousse with pine and sourdough ice cream which was nice but not mind blowing. Wines were nice and reasonably priced - Chilean Riesling I had with the scallops was superb.Service was hit and miss - we waited over 20 minutes between the first two courses and it was clear the room was understaffed. Additionally when second course turned up we had to wait over 5 minutes for the side dish to arrive. Lastly the sweet wines ordered with the dessert failed to arrive and we sat for 10 minutes without any waiter in the restaurant to ask about it, Eventually when we did point this out (after dessert finished) we were give a couple of glasses on the house. Prices were not silly but not cheap either but value for the quality of cooking.

We had an enjoyable evening and very nice meal at Ag’s restaurant at Alexander House. However, this comes at a price and I’m not sure it offers the best value for money. We enjoyed impeccable service from staff who were very knowledgeable about each dish on the menu. However, only three other tables were occupied so our experience may not be indicative of what you might expect at busier times. The bread here is truly outstanding and is offered multiple times throughout the meal. Our food was very nice but maybe a little over complicated. Both salmon and scallops for starters were good. The chicken for main was a very generous portion - the same could not be said of the lamb- blink and you might have missed the loin, four mouthfuls at most. Desserts were truly yummy. Side dishes came in at £6 a time. One side was plain boiled potatoes and I really struggle to see how they justify the price. The wine list comes on an i pad - unusual but quite effective always assuming you are tablet literate. The prices were steep - didn’t see anything under £40 a bottle. I was driving and my wife is not a big drinker so we opted for the offered wine pairings. Very nice and well matched but at £38 for three 175ml glasses of wine they ought to have been.

Per non dire altro, sconsiglio vivamente questo albergo non sono capaci a gestirlo, diffidate delle recensioni. Un addetto mi ha confermato che si sono lamentati tutti per il servizio. We really loved our dining experience in AG’s. We were given the menu to look at while we sat in the Champagne bar next door with some canapés. We decided to go for the tasting menu, with the wine flight. The speed of the service was just right, allowing enough time between courses, so we didn’t feel rushed, or that we were waiting. The size of each wine served was generous for a wine flight. The room had a lovely atmosphere, there was a buzz from having multiple diners, but the tables had a lot of space between them. Even though each serving was quite small, we certainly felt full by the time we got to the end of the menu, so didn’t need anything bigger. It might not be the cheapest restaurant, but we felt that we got value for money.

Very generous 'nibbles' as we waited gave way to a beautifully prepared amuse bouche and homemade, delicious bread with whipped butter. I had the wood pigeon breast, done perfectly medium rare and my husband had the scallops velvety and large sized. For the main I had the perfectly cooked venison with tiny turnips and pickled apple and my husband the mallard duck, chestnut, sprouts and 'heritage' kale whatever that is. Nothing to complain about here, except the wine list was well over-priced. and did not offer sufficient cheaper wines for those who aren't particularly wine connoisseurs. I would recommend dining here, although not exceptional it is well worth visiting.

And getting closer to receiving it I think! Have been to AGs for sunday lunch a few times, and always been fairly impressed overall. Hence, decided to take some friends for dinner on a Saturday night. Service was on the button, both in the Champagne Bar and the Restaurant. Food exceedingly good, very tasty with well balanced flavours, well presented and all in all, a very fine meal! They are looking to get their first Michelin star and as such they are trying very hard to please. Very good wine selection, even if they are all listed on those silly iPads....what happened to a good old fashioned wine list, technology going too far in my opinion! My two criticisms are; 1/ The restaurant is soulless and void of any atmosphere, 2/ It is very expensive. Other than that, if you are a foodie and in the area, give it a try.

AG's is advertised by Alexander House as 'fine dining'. What is 'fine dining' these days anyway? It's an old fashioned, out-dated phrase for restaurants that belong to a thankfully bygone era. We ate at AG's on New Year's eve. It was laughably over-priced at £130 per head and the food was average, large-party, pre-prepped wedding food at best. The food was needlessly over-complicated, served too cold and measly portions, from the melted chocolate poured over the pitifully small two slices of venison to the sorbet served already melted. They need to worry about what's on the plate and less about the hilariously varied types of plates the food is served on - the highlight being one course that was seemingly served on an upturned bin-lid. Gordon Ramsay would tear this place apart on one of his slightly entertaining TV programs. If you're staying at Alexander House absolutely avoid AG's and head to the far superior and far more laid back Reflections restaurant next door.

Firstly, I have to admit that the service was excellent. However, I was really looking forward to this meal but was left feeling disappointed. I cannot see why it has 3 rosettes? I'm baffled. The food was nothing more than average with the impression that the menu/chef is trying too hard.Points to note:• Overpriced• Overwhelmingly over seasoned• Egg yolk on steak tartar was hard, we noted that the maitre d' noticed this yet chose to ignore it. We would have sent it back if it wasn't for my husband feeling unwell that evening & being keen not to cause any delays in eating• Cutlery was dirty• Chairs do not fit tables well, so they are uncomfortable to sit atI wouldn't say the meal was awful, but it wasn't a 3 rosette meal. It was just 'okay'...

Empty when we arrived but full by the time we left. My 3 courses:Hare loin & sausage, valrhona chocolate, quince schezwan pepper. Excellent. Really nice and the star of the meal. Fillet of lamb, heritage tomatoes, nasturtium, couscous and apricot. Very nice again. I'd never had edible flowers before. Nice to try something new. Cherry bomb, granola, kirsch & smoked white chocolate A little odd having granola, but the presentation and flavours were superb. --- There was an amuse bouche, really nice breads and butters. There were some real highlights and some mediocrity in the 3 course selection served here. I must have read the menu incorrectly and went back to check, Scallop starter. Nice but barely a mouthful! Halibut Main, on the small side and overcooked. Mocha Souffle and absolute perfect dream dessert. Great waiter with good wine knowledge suggested a delightful Charddonay which complemented the fish perfectly. Between courses there were a nice selection of tasters which serve to fill the gaps that otherwise may have left me feeling hungry. We dined at AG's as part of an overnight spa break at Alexander House, with a £35pp allowance towards our evening meal (the package was described as including dinner, but £35pp stated in the small print wouldn't actually buy a proper dinner in either of the 2 restaurants due to the prices). The cost of a 3 course meal at AG's is £65, or £50 for 2 courses. £15 extra for a dessert seems astronomical, so we decided we may as well just go the whole hog and pay £85 for the tasting menu which we felt represented slightly better value for money. As a comparison, our local Michelin-starred restaurant serves a 3 course dinner for £35pp, and lunch for £25. As AG's does not (yet) have a Michelin star, I find these prices outrageous. I understand and expect a slight uplift due to being held captive in a 5* hotel, but even restaurants such as FERA at Claridges do better value set price menus than this. £50 max for 3 courses would be a more realistic price point I feel.Having said all that, the food we were served was outstanding and we thoroughly enjoyed every course. Particular highlights were the smoked scallop dish and the chocolate dessert. Definitely comparable to Michelin-starred restaurants we've visited. Service was pretty good and not too intrusive, and there was a nice ambience in the restaurant. We left uncomfortably full, but that was our own doing for having a tasting menu at 9pm! We took our coffee in the bar as we were the last ones left in the restaurant - we couldn't manage the petit fours unfortunately!

Extremely thorough and thoughtful service from start to finish. Explanation of the menu items, wine and even cheese board was detailed. Nice atmosphere to dine in, calm and quiet but not pretentious. Only negative was the Virgin Mary we ordered - that was rendered undrinkable by the vast amount of Tabasco added. It is expensive and the menu is limited but that's the point of the place.

After a unexpected surprise from my husband, he had arranged Sunday lunch (Roast Dinner) only to find that the restaurant despite being told the main restaurant had a recent fire, however we were still expecting the usual Sunday lunch menu. We were sat down in the middle of a toga party and presented with a menu for the usual lunch. We had the daily catch to which a been caught by Robson Green a week before and really wasnt happy with the expensive experience. £ 350.00 for four. It was like Gardinio in the Crawley County Mall. I would sooner sink my feet in a gold fish pond than eat here again. I've also missed a mortgage payment this month for a Scooby snack

Quality of meal was poor. Duck Rillette was dull. The sirloin tough and chewy, cheese was fridge cold, bland and tasteless accompanied by stale Jacobs assorted crackers. The service was chaotic with one of our group being served their starter 15 mins after everyone else and mains being served to the wrong people. On the plus side the waiting staff were all friendly and attentive, it was just clear that they were poorly trained and managed. Probably the most disappointing dining experience that I have had in a very long time.

In summary our food was over season from start to finish. Starter took over 45 minutes to arrive. Main courses were cold when we got them over an hour after sitting down. Lamb fat not rendered on my main. The only side dishes on a very rich menu included 2 potato dishes and 1 spinach and mushroom dish (which we order and was full of grit!) and no other greens. The seats were a poor choice for the tables as you couldn't bring them closer to the table as the seat arms were at the same width as the table legs (which was exceptionally uncomfortable for my pregnant wife). I am not sure there was a positive thing to say about our dinning experience to be honest, no there was, most of the staff were friendly and they deducted the spinach dish after confirming it was gritty!

Ate here whilst staying at AH with some girlfriends. We were brought canapes along with our champagne in the bar and talked through the menu. I think it was quiet that night as we were shown into a small room with other diners for dinner but it was still lovely and had a very intimate feeling. Everything on the table was in excellent order and clean. Some very interesting butters and breads were brought to the table as well, homemade and delicious. We were brought a nice amuse bouche before the starters arrived. We all ordered different starters but I had the hand dived scallops with white chocolate. It came with some samphire and other bits and pieces that I forget now but all added to what was an exquisite starter. Unforgettable! My friends enjoyed their first course also.My main was a fish dish, and the recommended one of the day by. It was lovely but couldn't live up to my first course. This was followed by a palette cleanser and then dessert, a chocolate ganache type thing which I just couldn't finish! All in all it was a lovely evening, great atmosphere, excellent service, good wine list and one hell of a starter!

Visited on a Sunday lunchtime and ha d a very memorable meal, having been here a number of times before for afternoon tea.Sunday lunch is a very pleasant affair at AG's, Traditional Sunday lunch with great finesse and style is the order of the day. Delicious roast beef and chicken, complemented by really well cooked vegetables, including seasonal asparagus which was of particular note.Puddings were really enjoyable with a twist.Tea and coffee on the patio afterwards meant we left at 4 having been there 2 1/2 hours.

My main evening meal of the weekend with 11 of us dining. We ate in a private room and were served by very attentive waiters for the evening. The meal was a tasting menu with a wine flight with some chefs tasters served prior to the main meal. Out of around 7 courses only 2 were of an acceptable standard. The fois gras was excellent as well as the main pork meal. The pork roll was unfortunately cold when it was served and was taken away to be reheated. The rest of the meat was really underwhelming and definitely not the standard of a Michelin star restaurant. I am not sure what went wrong as my previous visits to this restaurant have been faultless. The meal really detracted from my special evening.

Took my mother for sunday lunch and was not disappointed. The hotel itself is glamourous and seems quiet. All the staff are really friendly - from the lovely doorman to the waitress in the cocktail bar. The food was really well cooked and the roast was generous. The only thing that let them down was the desserts - the cheesecake was not up to standard!

A beautiful hotel in superb surroundings. We went to AG's for dinner alone and left feeling disappointed. My wife and I had gone for some quiet time over dinner without the children and from the moment we arrived the service was so OTT it sort of spoilt the experience. From being given the menus in the bar we felt really rushed. I don't believe that it was possible for them to have got us in and out much faster. On finishing our starters our mains the chateaubriand turned up within probably 2 minutes and was pretty much cold. The vegetables were incredibly hard and burnt, the mash watery and tasteless and generally we were pretty unimpressed. We felt that the over attentive service and real lack of 'ambience' was not what we were after. Finally after we had moved to the bar to finish our bottle of wine and were chatting away next thing we knew our waitress was in front of us in her hat and coat on her way home wishing us good night - by then we really just wanted to be left alone. If you are after a functional 'hotel' meal with very attentive service then try this but we won't be returning.

The food in AG's is simply exquisite, worthy of Michelin Star appreciation. The cooking is akin to Tom Sellers of Noma and Restaurant Story fame, a blend of British cuisine with a french twist. The restaurant is slightly overpriced at £65 for 3 courses (from memory) but I guess this is due to it's restaurant location. Well worth a visit !

We were fortunate enough to dine here as part of a stay at Alexander House after an elegant spa, although I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough as a destination for dinner alone. The twofairly small adjoining rooms of which AG's compromised are elegantly decorated and very in keeping with the main building and grounds. Having been greeted by the warm and personable maitre d' we were directed to our table, most of which are arranged against the walls as you walk in. This layout allowed for intimate conversation and provided ample room for the theatre of the food being presented and served.Having made the difficult choice of steering away from the tasting menu (which we have promised ourselves we will enjoy on another visit) we opted for the set menu choosing both fish and meats. The food was sublime, from the amuse-bouche with which your taste buds received the welcome news that they were in for something really special, through to the pre-dessert. Regrettably, the fantastic looking cheese board at the end of the restaurant went by the wayside, as I had simply not enough space to fully appreciate it, however my partners banana souffle of which I tried, was a work of art.Special nods to the courteous and inoffensive way in which the maitre d' and his waiter ran the service. I can only assume, judging from the food, but the kitchen was an equally well oiled machine.Wonderful.

6 of us went to Alexander House for Sunday Lunch recently to celebrate 2 birthdays! The food was nice but I have had better and for cheaper. Having said that the service, surroundings and finishing touches are great. The waiter we had, Ricardo was fantastic, so efficient and attentive, the kind of service you'd expect from a michelin star restaurant! He really seemed to know his stuff and told us all about the wine we ordered and what dishes it went with! Very impressive! Rarely experience such great service so close to home!

We spent a weekend at the Alexander House hotel and of course had to try the star restaurant On our first night we had booked AG's and settled in the bar prior to the meal. The restaurant Manager bought us our menus and we ordered our wine. We both decided to go a la carte and chose the chef special of beef Wellington. We were definitely not disappointed!! After a couple of nice amuses we ate our starters and were really pleased with the quality and taste. We then had the main dish!! Beef Wellington is not an unusual or complicated dish, but to say the one we were given was to die for would be an understatement. It was superb! Tasty, very tender and cooked to perfection. The vegetables served with the meal also did it justice and the whole meal was definitely beyond our expectations. For the sweet we had a cheese board from the most unusual choice of cheeses. Again it was fantastic and finished our evening experience on a plus. We were so pleased with the meal we ate there again on the Saturday - and yes it was same again! Definitely recommended.

My wife and I were celebrating our 45th Anniversary last Saturday and decided to celebrate this event with Dinner at AG's together with our Son,Daughter and partners. The evening started with a visit to the Champagne Bar where we cracked open a bottle of Champagne and were presented with some delicious Canapes. We were given our Menus and selected our choices and also selected our wines. We then moved to the Restaurant where we had booked a table for six. The food was delicious, plenty of choice, we loved the amuse bouches and other touches, the famous bread loaves were great ,the staff were very efficient and pleasant, the food was truly amazing. I cannot praise the restaurant enough. Well done will definitely be back.

Alexander house has always lived under the shadow of that peerlees Country house hotel, Gravetye Manor, but when that was block booked for a wedding, we rather reluctantly tried AGs and were treated to a thoroughly enjoyable evening largely due to the enthusiasm of the very young sommelier Alex.As it was an important birthday, our quartet tried the tasting menu which was uniformly interesting and well presented (if tending to the over-kill and the lamb cooked sous-vide which would have upset Coren of the Times) but complemented most generously with well selected and unusual wines, presented with aplomb and surprisingly deep knowledgeNot cheap but fully deserving of a visit for a special occasion

Wonderful canapés and bread were unfortunately followed with lobster and scallop starters which didn't need the over fussy extras. The main of beef Wellington was well cooked, but the pastry was soggy and lukewarm. The accompanying vegetables were extremely bland. However, the service was amazing. The dining room suffered from strange marching band soundtrack! All in all, a very mixed bag and was too expensive for the meal we received.

Can't praise the food here highly enough. Some of the best food we've ever eaten - and we have dined at some top class restaurants around the world. This is seriously good food. Even the bread is fabulous. I only wish we'd had room for dessert. One tiny quibble - our waitress was lovely and was just attentive enough, but the food doesn't come out of the kitchen quite fast enough. However, I have to give five stars as this was one of the best meals I've ever had.

The staff were very helpful and attentive (apart from when our petits fours dropped from the plate and rather than replace the waitress served with it missing and kicked the dropped one back into the kitchen, even though she saw I had noticed). Alex the sommelier was very good and attentive and worthy of a mention.Having eaten at all scales of restaurant this was overpriced and underwhelming. More expensive than some Michelin starred restaurants, but nowhere near the experience. The food was well presented and thought out (apart from the Carbonised sauce(?) with the monkfish which just made everything taste burnt), but lacked the level of execution expected from the prices on the menu. Misdemeanours such as shell in the oysters and bone shards in the chicken are not acceptable. Of the bread choices the stilton and onion option was like 4 slices of Hovis wholemeal wafted by an onion, totally devoid of any character or stilton flavour. One starter was served tepid which again is not expected at this level. Generally the food was interesting, but nothing to write home about. Will we go again....no not for the food as there are plenty of places in this price range where the cooking is of a much higher standard or restaurants serving this level of cooking without the pomp, pretence or price tag of fine dining that AG's professes to provide. Overall a disappointment we will not be repeating.

We had a wonderful birthday dinner at AG's. My husband and I shared the chateubriand which was delicious. We did not have starters but they had a range of breads, and an amuse bouche and a butternutsquash jelly thing before our meal (all complimentary). The wine was excellent and the staff knowledgeable. We had a pina colada palate cleanser before dessert and I had the hot banana souffle and my husband had the cheese board - both excellent. The restaurant was full but the staff weren't rushing around and had time to attend to everyone without being intrusive. We will return again.

Booked the 7 course tasting menu at the AGs restaurant for NYE. Never have myself and my guests had to eat a 7 course meal in 1 hour and 20 minutes. The staff seemed to be rushing us through the evening. Food was good, but no time to enjoy! No decorations up or candles on the table. Lights turned off over the empty tables. No atmosphere. Very, very disappointed and so pleased we weren't staying the night! A very expensive mistake!

Moving from London to the wilds of West Sussex didn't bode well for our gastronomical adventures until we found Executive Chef Mark Budd's menus at AG's Restaurant in the beautiful Alexander House. With 3 AA Rosettes under it's belt, AG's is our fail-safe for a fantastic dinner. From the great welcome on arrival right to the handmade petit fours and coffee ending, we have consistently had inventive and carefully constructed tasting menus that have left us amazed at the creativity and frankly quite emotional at the care and effort taken to ensure we have a 'foodie' experience every time we visit. My partner and I are both vegan and have traveled extensively, eating at many of the worlds best vegan restaurants but Mark and his team put every single one to shame. I must clarify, Ag's is NOT a vegan restaurant - but the sign of a super talented chef is when they can make a 7 course tasting menu suitable for vegans and have it look and taste every bit as good as their 'normal' dishes. Being so used to having salad, risotto and a sorbet if we are lucky as the vegan 'option' in all other fine dining restaurants we have visited, to find a place that is so dedicated to making everyone's dining experience a gastronomic one, regardless of dietary needs is pretty special. Who else would invent tasting menus with seaside 'fish' and chips, vegan scallops, non dairy panna cotta, seaweed 'oysters', rib eye 'steak' and at our last dinner, a vegan Chateaubriand, carved at the table and with all the usual accompaniments! AG's attention to detail is superb, from the freshly baked mini loaves to their intensely flavoured amuse bouche, we find their dining experience faultless. Also their love of seasonal and local produce shines through in their ever changing menus. Classically influenced but with their modern touch, AG's is a real find.

I think this must have been Chef's night off !! . Started well , menu choices all looked appealing and lovely fresh bread although when waiter sneezed at table and then continued to set our cutlery is was somewhat off putting . Starters were good but the Dover Sole that was served as main was so incinerated that could hardly cut through it with knife . How this ever made it over the pass I can't understand hence the comment re chef nor why it wasn't spotted by Maitre'd. Yes we sent it back and it was removed form bill but should never have been served and ruined the meal . We chose the souffle for desert which also had to be sent back although this time the Maitre'd spotted it and came over to tell us of the delay. Aspirations of fine dining but execution was seriously lacking on this visit

Had a very nice meal with my husband when we were enjoying an overnight stay at the hotel, the food was well thought through and the homemade bread delicious! However my main was a little overcooked, the beef was past the point of being pink and I would have liked it a fair bit rarer, and my husband's turbot had suffered a similar fate. Other than that the meal was excellent with attentive service, good wine list and a friendly ambiance, definitely worth a visit.
