The walk to the Everglades Hotel from city centre was long but easy and if we had more energy, we probably would have spent some time checking out the shops along the way or stopped at a pub or two on the way back. We opted for a late afternoon tea time for our Derry Girls Afternoon Tea at the Everglades hotel because we thought it would give us a planned activity late enough in the day that it would motivate us to have a late dinner. We might have underestimated the amount of food we would be getting though because by 7pm we were both still pretty full. We honestly had know idea what to expect but the experience came recommended by at least 2 people, so we thought we'd give it a try. We were the only ones there for our 3:30pm tea time, the hotel lobby area was calm, lavishly decorated and felt very classy. Our waiter, Kai was very attentive and got us started straight away by offering tea or coffee. I normally wouldn't have tea, but... When in Derry! I ordered camomile tea which I found I actually liked it , and my husband had coffee, in which we both got separate kettles. I quickly researched that camomile will not put you to sleep, rather it has no caffeine and can be great to reduce anxiety. Then the feast began with a variety of 3 cold sandwiches (no crust) and one had crisps (potato chips) in it! We got cupcakes, scones, macarons, pound cake, biscuits (cookies), tarts, and even a side with hot chicken sandwiches on buttered buns and chips (French fries). Everything was so yummy, especially the pound cake and chocolate lava cake. Before our visit ended, we also received a special cocktail with the meal. We took our time spending nearly an hour and a half while we listened to the "pop goes classical/piano" music, chatted about the food and the experience, and enjoyed some people watching. We are guessing that on a Saturday or during the summer it would be a lot busier of an experience, but we felt like VIP having our own private tea time!

Had afternoon tea here on Thursday. Booked the Derry Girls tea and was very dissapointed that although the afternoon tea is still advertised with the "Michelle Duck" it no longer comes with one. We especially booked a stay at this hotel to avail of this so it was a shame.

After being treated to a Christmas afternoon tea today. How disappointing upsetting for my friend to find after booking 2weeks ago. We all waited 1 hour. We spoke to the receptionist and the waitress and we still did not receive our afternoon tea. This was for 5 adults ? The loss of income surely would be of concern to any hotel in this day and age. At no time did anyone ask us if we were ok or advise the reason or when to expect our order? We left and advised by the receptionist a manager would ring. We are still waiting?? 😱

Four adults we were family out for afternoon tea,i book two weeks in advance, upon arrival I think the lady at reception seemed a bit surprised, despite being on time we were told to go to the bar and wait for our table .So we decided to have a pre afternoon tea drink or cocktail like you usually do , I asked do you have a glass of champagne the bar tender said yes then he came to me and said I only have Prosecco ,I said can I have a cocktail he said what do you like I said a mojito,he came up to me whilst I was seated and said we don’t have ingredients to make a mojito ,I said ok I will make it simple can I have. a Pimms and lemonade, again he came back to our seats and said we don’t have Pimms,I then said ok I will have a Bacardi and coke .We we’re then shown our table ,the manager came to me and said I have worked here for 18 months and no one has ever asked for a Pimms ! We can’t make a mojito as the mint we were sent is not good ,he then said what mixer do you want with your Bacardi I said a bottle of coke ,he came back with a Bacardi and a bottle of coke and said do you want me to pour it ,how do you want it poured ,I said are you winding me up ,he said no just asking how you want it poured ,I said I will do it myself .So the tea came then the sandwiches, between 4 adults we had 3 fingers of sandwich each not very much and the edges were a bit hard where they had been left for a while ,the scones were so crumbled they fell , apart in crumbs and the cream was not clotted cream only 1 small pot of whipping cream between 4 ,the cakes were something you just buy in a shop no effort was made , quite a few were shortcrust , I Just ate half a scone and two mini lemon Meringues,i felt we were an afterthought and at 25 pounds a head I expected better ..certainly bad Customer service and nothing special definitely would not return ,to be honest I was treating my cousin’s and felt embarrassed ,in the past I have stayed at this hotel many times but this afternoon tea has put me off I would go to the bishops gate and not deviate anywhere else

Finn really made the experience so lovely as our waiter! I went with family and we all loved the experience - customer service was amazing and the piano player was so talented. And a lovely setting too! And the Derry Girls afternoon tea was very unique and lovely.

Me and my friend booked afternoon tea today derry girls. FINN was our waiter today and he provided excellent customer service throughout and made it a very enjoyable experience for us. The food was absolutely amazing and the mock tail was the nicest strawberry daq I've ever tasted so smooth. Attention to detail was outstanding and having had afternoon tea in another establishment on mothers day this one was much more enjoyable good value and food was delicious. We will definitely be back. Thanks Finn for everything Two happy ladies today. Linda x

Booked an over night stay and afternoon tea at the Everglades as I'm a huge fan of Derry Girls.......the afternoon tea was one of the best we have ever had, from the minute we sat down the staff couldn't do enough for us, we we're told we could sit as long as we liked the table was ours for the whole afternoon, the food was lovely and fresh (we took some back to the room as there was to much to eat in one go) you could have as much tea/coffee as you liked as well plus a cocktail/mocktail was included, the cocktail was lush....the music from the piano was a lovely touch too.....a defiant must for any Derry Girls fan and I would defiantly stay at this hotel again.

Not worth the £30 for derrys girls afternoon tea. I am vegetarian and they told me everything on the plates I could eat and went to eat a wrap and it had chicken and ham in it!!! Had to keep re asking for things as wasn't brought down. Brought bowl for chips to share between me and my friend .. only about 8 chips on bowl and my friend went there before and they got a bowl each. Also the cream horns weren't fresh and was miniature!!! Very disappointing. The bread on sandwiches was hard also. Only thing I really liked was the cocktail. different people coming around all the time so communication wasn't great but Mark and Kieffer were very nice and friendly despite all the issues with food etc

This experience was booked as a gift for me, and to be honest I wasn't expecting too much after reading some of the negative reviews on Tripadvisor. However, I was very pleasantly surprised at how fantastic it was! The service from the staff, especially FINNIAN, was very friendly and prompt. The food was delicious with such a great spread. We skipped breakfast that morning so not to spoil the experience. After the chips, sausage roll baps, and finger sandwiches we were already beginning to struggle, and we were only half way through! The warm scones were delightful, as were the many other sweet treats. You may have as much tea or coffee as you wish, including latte's & cappuccinos etc and they were piping hot. As a lovely added bonus, there was a wonderful pianist playing, which we both thoroughly enjoyed. We stayed for about three hours, never feeling rushed at all, in fact quite the opposite we were told to 'relax and enjoy' which we did. We also had the 'signature' cocktail, which was a lovely touch too. I would absolutely recommend this experience. One of the best afternoon tea experiences I have had. Thank you Everglades Hotel, I hope to be back again soon to do it all again! Helen

We went as a party of 6 for afternoon tea over Easter costing £150. We had a few egg sandwiches and ham and pickle sandwiches some on white bread. We had to ask 3 times for cream and jam for the scones. The sweet treats were rocky roads and shortbread which had to be shared as there wasn’t one each. We were then presented with pink cream squirted into miniature teacups and told it was mousse. There were large slices of what looked like a fruit loaf and some slices of lemon cake. The quantity of food was enough for 4 but far short for 6. It was an absolute disgrace and most definitely not worth the huge amount we paid. The cost of the food presented would not have been more than £20. Don’t go near this hotel for afternoon tea.

This was a Birthday treat and apart from the company it was disappointing. The Derry Girls afternoon tea is £30 per head, we had two finger sandwiches, one was egg and the other was crisps each, a sausage roll in a burger, a mini cream horn, we were supposed to get a cone of chips, but got a small dessert dish which amounted to about 6 chips each. The scone was normal size and delicious 😋 it was the best part of the afternoon tea. Two very thin slices of lemon cake, two fruit loaf slices and two chocolate slices, a cookie 🍪 had been broken into quarters and we got two of the quarters ( I thought this was a joke and very unprofessional). You could have as much tea and coffee as you liked. At the end we were given a Mocktail each. Personal I would never book another, I’ve had afternoon tea at another hotel in the city which was far superior and only cost £17 per head. I would have only given 2 stars but gave an extra star because the staff were very polite.

Took my daughter & her 2 friends here for her birthday. She’s a big Derry Girl’s fan. We were well impressed with the food, and even better service. Lovely staff. Plenty of food & got to take leftovers home. Staff went over & above to make sure my daughter had a great birthday, & they even let her play the piano before she left. Kids were half price which was great. Highly recommend.

I went to the Everglades Hotel in Derry last Sunday for afternoon tea with seven other ladies. The experience was brilliant from we arrived until we left. We were there four and a half hours. When we arrived we were seated and told to stay as long as we liked as this was our table for the evening. The food was excellent and plenty of it. Yea or coffee was served in abundance and more tea and coffee was served throughout our stay. Well worth the money spent and I would highly recommend Everglades for afternoon tea . The staff were so friendly and couldn't do enough for us. Thanks very much for a very enjoyable evening.

I went with 3 friends for a Festive Afternoon Tea. The setting was lovely - big comfy sofas in a lovely spacious lounge. The tea isn't cheap at £26 per person. The sandwiches were good, very good and so were the homemade scones. I say this because everything else was disappointing. Am I naive in assuming that the cakes would all be homemade? The menu described the cakes as being homemade, so is it unreasonable to assume that they actually would be?? There were Shop bought christmas cake slices and chocolate mini rolls or should I say 'yule logs', shop bought biscuits and lemon cake. If the chocolate truffles were homemade they were a very good imitation of shop bought ones. There was no trifle and we were not offered or given any mulled wine. We were given a £3 reduction for not having been given any. Sorry guys, the company was good, the setting was nice but the tea was a disgrace. We should have complained, but I'm a typical Derry person who doesn't want to ruffle any feathers by ever complaining about anything - when will I learn! I wish I was Grace Dent as she would have spoken her mind and written a funny and entertaining review for her readers. If this sounds like a moan and a rant, can l just say in my defence that i usually write very positive reviews.

What a special treat - staff made us feel very welcome from the moment we came in. They advised that we were welcome to stay as long as we wanted, have as much tea/coffee as we needed and that there were take home boxes if we wanted to take some away. The atmosphere was so relaxing with some beautiful music being played on the piano (Saturday). As it was a special treat for my Mum the staff went out of their way to make it memorable, thank you .

It all tasted as good as it looked! The staff were excellent too. From the staff who sat in reception to all the staff who helped out - they were so helpful. We were greated by Finn and the service we received from him from start to finish was first class! Such a gentleman! To top it off, there was someone playing the piano all afternoon while we were there. Her choice of music was fab! It was such a pleasant afternoon- definitely the best afternoon tea I’ve ever been to!!! I will definitely be back. Well done to all at the Everglades!
