The worst customer service ever. The guy in the kitchen was extremely rude and arrogant. I won’t recommend. I placed an order and the lady in front game me a 50minutes wait time but the young man inside responded by saying it will take 2hours. He went on to speak a language he thought I do not understand, saying that it will only be ready in 50minutes if I am ready to go complete the cooking in my house. That was when I knew I should not eat there. Instead of improving on the service, they are out in this space trying to twist the narrative, engaging in ethnic profiling, making discriminatory remarks... Too bad for a business in 'hospitality'.

We ordered for some poundo and vegetable soup, as well as isi ewu (goat meat) on uber eats. The goat meat was really tasty and soft and rightly peppery. Before ordering, I called the numbers on their website and on google to ask if they also provide swallow alongside their soups, because other places I have ordered from provide swallow along side the soups (you do not need to buy it separately). They didn’t pick any of my calls and not to take the chance, I ordered swallow separately and when we unwrapped it at home, there was a very visible long, black strand of hair glaring right back at us from the top of our swallow. Mahn…

I came to Bristol for a get away weekend with my friend. When we walked in, the reception was cold. I said “good afternoon “ to the waitress and got no response, i even said “Thank you” and i was snubbed again. I genuinely felt like I offended the waitress by coming to the restaurant. No smile, nothing. Just cold. The food and price were alright. As a professional chef and restaurant consultant, i will advise you work on customer service and ambience. And please stop replying rudely to customers. It is a huge turn off. You have a great space with huge potential. Put emotions aside and put in work to make it work. I wish you the best.

When you get the price of the meal and its put on your table, be sure to ask again about the price as there will be add-ons without your permission such as drinking water. Otherwise you will have a sarcastic response when you ask why they price has suddenly changed..such at " but you drank the water"...disgraceful customer service response. It's bad enough that the Egusi soup tastes horrible, a total disgrace to the dear Nigeria Soup, you will have the smallest portion of food at a ridiculous price tag.

The order was wrong. We didn't get our drinks and the food itself was horrible. Dry cold meat that resembled beef Jerky. I was given next to no meat on my plate, the rice was cold and not very nice tasting (although there was alot of it, which meant there was no room for more meat). Whatever they gave my missus was also not great. I don't know if the server was shy or not, so this isn't a knock on her if that is the case, but alot of the service came across as rude. The whole expirience rubbed me the wrong way, and it was the worst dining expirience I have had in Bristol. Paid £20 for one dish and I wouldn't eat it or free. After just moving to Bristol I wanted to sample some African food, I was happy I found this restaurant after searching for some time. On entering I was not greeted with a smile, the lady seemed busy. The food under the counter looked delicious, with an assortment of food. I chose Egusi with pounded yam to take away. The lady had to make the pounded yam which took 7 minutes. On taking the food home to eat I was greeted with pounded yam that was the consistency of mashed potato, and the Egusi had 3 pieces of meat and and was just one large scoop and did not even fill the container. I even wondered if it spilled out in my bag, as there was just a little bit of food. I had to throw away the “ pounded yam potato “ it’s such a shame as the Egusi was so tasty however small. I felt cheated and wasted my money. I will try out another African restaurant and hope they are better . Very disappointing service.

I wanted to order from African Village Barbecue, but my Google search result showed that it was permanently closed. A few hours later, while driving down Stapleton Road, I noticed the restaurant's door was open, so I found a parking space and went over to see what was going on. However, I quickly realised that the establishment had changed hands and had been renamed African Palace. From my first impression, everything appeared to be the same, with the exception of some minor improvements in the furniture, and the staff appeared friendly and polite. I chose vegetable and pepper soups. On this occasion, the vegetable soup was unimpressive, but the pepper soup was adequate but not outstanding. Perhaps other items on the menu will compensate for this. Future visits will reveal all.

They have very good food here.
It took two hours for the food to get to us.
I was told it was vegan and I am sick after eating plantains cooked in beef product, fat most likely. It is both physically and emotionally distressing.
I will not guess at why they told me that the dish and perhaps all of the dishes were vegan. Perhaps they did not know the difference between vegan and vegetarian? It's better to ask or look it up than to tell someone that it's animal free when it is not.
If you're a patient omnivore, you'll love it. If you like to know and consent to what you're eating before you eat it, do not order.

I have had takeaways and visited Real Habesha many times and have always been a big fan but it's not worthwhile any more. We ordered the veg combo for two last time which cost around £35 - expensive by takeaway standards. You get a huge amount of injera but scarcely enough sauce to share between two. It's very stingy and makes for a very disappointing meal. Prices have gone up hugely in the past 4-5 years, which does reflect inflation, but there is no excuse for such stingy portions at top end end prices. I have at times said that it's my favourite food place in Bristol, but sadly I won't be ordering again.
