This was my first (but not my last) visit. The food was excellent and plentiful. The cost was very reasonable and the staff exceptionally friendly.

Although the food was delicious ( I had the belly pork & sweet potato fries) I now have food poisoning. Just a warning & a heads up.

Excellent food and service. Even though it was very busy the service was excellent. The beer garden is a lovely area to relax in.

First time in this Restaurant, what a hidden jewel. Everything was lovely piping hot fresh food (even though my fries were soggy) extremely tasty and cooked well. Will definately be returning and recommending to friends. Well done.

Mothers day. Fairly regular customers , however poor all around. Food clearly cooked hours in advanced, over cooked school dinner vibes. Burnt Yorkshires, asked if they could replace and brought equally burnt ones.Not asked how our food was , left feedback when paying but not bothered Not sure if a chef change from pre Christmas but definitely an off day.

Booked a table for 6.45pm for 3 people, arrived at 6.48pm (I know we were 3 mins late). As soon as we walked through the door the waitress said that we would have to order straight away as they had a large table coming in at 7pm. We were shown to our table where the waitress asked for our drinks order which we gave. Over the next 9 minutes the waitress came over 3 times to ask if we were ready to order, we weren’t ready to order by this time obviously as we had only sat down 9 minutes before hand. Then she came over again to tell us if we didn’t order now there would be over an hour wait for food. We asked why they didn’t tell us this when we booked and she said it wasn’t her that took the call. She said that if we weren’t late then it would have been fine, I explained that we were 3 minutes late, if we were really late I would have understood. Even if we would have arrived early, we probably still would have had to order within about 5 minutes of arriving. The whole thing made us feel uneasy and that we weren’t really welcome at the restaurant. We left without having food or drinks. A real disappointment. The ‘big table’ that was coming in still hadn’t arrived by 7.08pm so I’m wondering if they all had to order within the 5 minute time frame too? It’s a shame that this has happened, as we were trying it again, being local, after the last time we came a few years ago and there was a bug in my food that had obviously been cooked in the sauce. We will definitely not ever return here again or recommend

Last year 2022 did the group Christmas Dinner, it was £15 each and superb. The chef made an effort, the brussels even had a sweet glaze. The place was buzzing then. This year, 2023, went on the same day, same time, the place was dead, silent. The background music was intermittent but mostly not there, giving the atmosphere of a morgue. The food itself was an average carvery roast, lots of it but now £20 each. The chef was obviously different and could only produce an average meal.

Enjoyed Sunday dinner. Need to book table prior which was easy. Staff very helpful and friendly. I have been here few times and always have nice dinner. Only reason I gave 4 star is because the roast potato always cold. Would definitely recommend.

Been to this pub several times for food always been good, but the last 2 times we’ve been was very disappointing, the chips on nearly everyone’s food yesterday were undercooked, we did complain and were offered potatoes instead, for the price you pay( not cheap) I expect better, also 3 of us have been I’ll overnight with bad stomachs, I’m not saying it’s the food as the rest of us have been ok, but it’s a coincidence that everyone who had chicken has been I’ll, anyway we will now be giving this pub a wide birth as things have gone downhill with the food.

Very disappointing!!! Me and my family went there for a Sunday roast ! All four meal came out cold, and the portions were ridiculously small, one half roast potato and two smal steamed new potatoes, we kindly asked them to warm up our food and they came back soggy as they just microwaved it. The restaurant was empty so couldn’t really understand why this was happening. The vegs were tasteless and we were sharing between us four the same amount of veg as the table of two next to us.. Very disappointed! I do not recommend going there is you’d like a great roast !

Visited the afan tavern on a Saturday evening and the place was packed . We got shown to are responsibility quickly the menu is large with a good selection we ordered and the food arrive quick I had the meatball pasta bake which came with garlic bread and salad and it was a large portion my wife had a vegetarian fish and chips which was also a large portion we both really enjoyed are food . The staff was really nice and helpful definitely be visiting again

Very disappointed 4 of the party ordered Sunday roast , all had to be returned cold . All came back out but microwaved and meals were all mixed up gravy had congealed and veg was inedible was really looking forward to meal but was sadly let down . Was not charged for meal . Went here for my birhtday as i asked everyone first what it was like,we were greeted by lovely staff,very helpful,menu is very good,not expensive for the amount you get.Very good choice and a specials board.We had the creamy mushrooms to start,they were fantastic,chicken strips,two lots,they were nice as well,came with two dips.I made a mistake on the main,i had the afan chicken which was stuffed with stuffing and bacon around it,chicken was lovely but the sauce just didnt go with it,my fault i put the lot on and then struggled,gravy would have gone better with it,also my son didnt like the burger but it was a proper homemade one,he is very fussy tho.Loads of food,we would go back but go early next time as they have live music there at 9pm and to be honest i wanted to leave then,the place was full of rough looking people then all wanting to get drunk,so did put a dampner on it for us then and we had our son with us,so next time we go early and leave before that happens again,apart from that it was lovely,obviously i would choose more wisely next time but that was not their fault in any way,a good place for proper food.

Well this place is amazing been there like god knows how many times. Never have i had a bad meal. Staff are amazing . Foods outstanding plenty of it on the plate also. Even if you go for a bite to eat evening on weekends usually got a band on who are decent . Would highly recommend

Five of us visited for Sunday lunch today (13th October). Fantastic. Everywhere clean and tidy. Staff very friendly. Great selection of vegetables and the meat turkey/beef/pork all of which was tried was so nicely cooked it just melted in the mouth. Can't wait to revisit.

Went on a recommendation, what a fab place. Staff very friendly, atmosphere buzzing, food fantastic. They have live music on a Friday & Saturday night and throughout the summer (if weather permitting) live music of a tea time in the beer garden. Visited on fri 2nd about 5pm hadn't booked were told any unreserved tables were free .picked our table and ordered drinks at the bar .staff were very helpful .ordered our meals a lasagne and 2x plaice off the specials board ,all the meals were very good . ample portions and very good value for money . Just had a lovely meal at the afan tavern. I had the all day brunch which was tasty but the chef has a bit of a problem with quantity control because there was a lot of food and I don't like to waste any but I and my guests did leave quite a bit , but again no fault with the quality or value for money and have no problem with coming back again.

Called a number of times for lunch before going to the rugby in aberavon, the food is always good, corned beef pie is home made and the best I've ever had, the fish is fresh and cooked well, the staff are really pleasant and we've only seen smiles from them when we visit, so no complaints with our review, only positive comments, and well deserved

Dropped into the Afan Tavern on Saturday 31st around 15:00 for a spot of lunch. The staff were friendly and our server recommended a meal for me of noodles with pulled beef and a stunning sauce and my wife had the Afan burger. When the meals arrived the smell from my meal was stunning and my wife’s burger was the thickest iv ever seen and she said it was the best burger she had ever had, and as for my meal OMGG it was the best iv ever had it was fabulous and I would recommend it and The Afan Tavern to everyone its a special place which I will be going back to time and time again.

We had booked to take my mum who is 92 out for lunch. Mum and I ordered the smoked salmon and prawns for starters it was delicious. Both of us ordered the poached salmon. Mum had the vegetables from the carvery but I had a salad with mine. The salmon was very tasty and cooked beautifully. We both had Eton mess for desert which was very tasty and light to eat. Dennis had the vegetable soup followed by the carvery. He said the beef was very tender. He followed by having cheesecake that was very tasty. A very nice Mothers Day lunch thank you to all the staff at the afan tavern.

Felt a cold welcome as we arrived, the young waitress was more concerned about having a conversation with other staff as we waited patiently for them to take our order..... A let down with the food , steak was overdone and tough , I had ordered it rare and my partner's bellypork was undercooked and just fat!! The chips were very pale in colour and not cooked .....there just seemed no way the staff wanted to resolve the situation and instead left us waiting at every opportunity!!

Called in for the carvery.We all had beef,Turkey and pork. Which was thick and plentiful. Good selection of veg but no cauliflower which I like and there was Swede which I don't like. Enjoyed the meal especially as I did not have to cook it.

Waited to be seated, around 1pm but no real wait and we were shown to a table. Nice menu with a good selection of food. Kids menu was very good too, ordered nuggets and chips; the nuggets were proper chicken breast and very good quality. We had breaded mushrooms and chicken wings to start, potion size of mushrooms could have been better for the cost. Mains we had pie and faggots. Chips were slightly undercooked and pale but otherwise food was lovely. All seemed fresh and homemade. Service was very good, friendly and attentive waitresses. The pub was clean. We will definately return and I felt it was overall good value for money.

This restaurant is excellent value for money. I use this place for every family occasion as the service is excellent and food even better. The cooked dinners on a Sunday are the best around but you have to book for a Sunday as it is so popular. Would highly recommend this place if you're looking for a relaxed informal good value meal

I had this restaurant recommended due to the good food, and it didn't disappoint on that front. We arrived at the quieter time of 5.30pm and there was only 2 other couples there, we ordered at approx 5.45pm and the food arrived at 6.30pm which seemed a little excessive due to the amount of people there, hey, maybe I'm just a little impatient!

My family & I have always had fabulous meals here and would highly recommend. The food is excellent for the price and the service is good too. Its always best to telephone to book a table to avoid disappointment!

The Welsh curry was delicious. Our friends and grandson had the faggots and peas and chips. we also had scampi and the afan. Burger. Everybody enjoyed their meal. Our friends said they would definitely be going back.

The ONLY good thing to say is that the chips were ok. A group of us went there on a Friday evening at 7pm , bar staff was polite and friendly, we sat down ordered our meals i had the mixed grill the missus had a steak, my mother had fish and chips and my father had gammon. The waitress ask how id like my steak done to which i replied medium, bit bloody but not to much same for the missus.

I have never had a bad meal here, as I'm not from the area I don't come that often but would love to come here more. The food is always beautiful and the staff is lovely. They do live music as well

We decided to go out for food on spur of a minute nothing planned so look on Google what restaurants and ended up in Afan tavern. On arrival we were greated very warmly. The menu was a big surprise with the amount of different meals that are available. We both chose to have the mix grill and as most people who know me a mixed grill is one of my favourite meals.

Looking for somewhere to eat on a late Saturday afternoon. To early for most places. Recommended by the Brit. We had 3 coures each -Chicken pieces and lavabread starter, surf and turf and hot curry mains, sticky toffee pudding and white chocolate and rasberry cheesecake dessert. All lovely. Lovely atmosphere, Staff very helpful and welcoming. This might have been our first visit but it won't be the last.

This is a great place for a drink and some pub grub. Great selection of local ales and lagers and the food is very tasty. A must place to visit if passing through port talbot.

We met to celebrate mums 92nd birthday. She had are ribs which were delicious. The faggots were very tasty. Everyone enjoyed their meals but me I had ordered a rump steak with a jacket potato. The steak was cooked rare as I like it but it was a bit hard to chew in parts.

Went with friends for food. Food is nice. Staff can be miserable. The park is no longer in the beer garden it's been demolished. So nothing for children to do when the bouncy castle comes down. Wish it was like it's sister pub the salt inn in Porthcawl and was pet friendly.

There were twelve of us, all the meals came out at the same time, they were large plates and full up. I had the surf and turf with the larger steak which was cooked to perfection, my only moan is that it’s a bit on the expensive side but worth every penny for the quality of the food

Really disappointed with the food this afternoon went for a family meal food was way over cooked peas were like bullets potoaes had a tangy taste and steak had absolute no flavour £42 down the drain really disappointing when the food is normally absolutely outstanding!

Had a lovely family meal last night at the Afan Tavern for my daughter’s birthday. Food and service was excellent. They had a Tuesday night special of buy to 2 starters and 2 mains and get a free bottle of wine. As there were 8 of us and 6 had starters, we were given 3 bottles of wine which we were allowed to take home, which was a nice touch.

All the times we have been here it has been lovely, however on this occasion it was awful as soon as we walked in, waitresses were just by the bar and ignored us, when I asked which table can we have she said take your pick its quiet in here today!,

Definitely my favourite pub restaurant. I always have amazimg food and the portion sizes are HUGE! It is also very child friendly with a bouncy castle out in the garden, and it is also lovely to see a childrens menu that has more options than just chicken nuggets or sasauge and chips! Definitely will continue to come here regularly.

Used to be a cracking carvery, but now unfortunately due to rudeness of staff and cold food this will be my last time dining there. Seems they got to greedy themselves by cutting back on quality of the food and letting the pub go down hill. Toilets are disgusting!

Visited as a group of 5 for a midweek lunch. Found the menu had lots of choice. We ordered rump steak, steak and ale pie, chicken in white wine sauce and 2 fish and chips. Meals are not cheap but you certainly get what you pay for and all served with home made chips, we all really enjoyed our food. The staff were lovely, pleasant and polite and we look forward to a return visit.

Food came late,the curry’s were all flavourless whereas before they were really enjoyable,everyone who had steaks either were cooked incorrectly or cold and there was a older waitress who was extremely rude when one of our party had found a hair in her food. Very shocked as we have had many enjoyable meals here before
