Amazing food, our kids especially love the lentils!! The food is beautiful, full of flavour. The Injera, Doro Wot and Miser Wot are probably our favourites, but everything we have tried has been delicious. Delivery was on time and food hot. Thank you.

My husband and I have lived in 7 different towns/cities, including London, and have searched far and wide over the years to find authentic, beautifully cooked Ethiopian food. This is, hands-down, the most incredible Ethiopian food we've had. We actually live an hour away and have made the trip several times to come here - you know it's good when it's a two hour trip you look forward to! The atmosphere in the restaurant is wonderful, it's incredibly homely and romantic, and the service is always fantastic. The food is made with care and love, and its always fresh and delicious. Everything we've tried has been amazing - our favourites include the misir wot and shiro wot, with fresh, housemade injera. It's also incredibly good value - for the two of us to share the vegetarian platter (picture taken in January) with drinks and dessert/coffee, I think the total cost was under £35. We've both eaten in the restaurant and ordered takeaway, and would highly recommend Abyssinia Kitchen for everyone who enjoys fantastic, flavourful food.

We had a Groupon Lunch voucher but they let us have the lunch menu between 5pm to 6pm. We got 2 meat dishes + 1 veg & pancakes(injera) I loved the beef dish my wife preferred the chicken both excellent, not sure what was in the chicken but seemed like dark lentils. The veg dish was potato & beetroot but the potato wasn't cooked, they instantly changed it & were given a different veg dish. The owner did come to us later to apologise & she said that the potatoes were indeed undercooked . Excellent service. The food is cooked fresh but with this said it did take 50 minutes to be served. You will get lovely dishes here & best of all superbly different & tasty Recommended..

My husband & I enjoyed Ethiopian food abroad five years previously, and it was a real treat to find somewhere local which showcases this amazing cuisine! We had the Doro Wot (Chicken) and the Asa (Fish). The food was excellent quality, and it was great to see they catered for gluten free too. I would very much recommend Abyssinia Kitchen to anyone wanting to try something different. We enjoyed a lovely meal at the Abyssinia kitchen with two friends. The menu was Ethiopian and the food was beautifully cooked to order by the host Helena who also made us very welcome and guided us through the menu. i had a diced lamb and rice dish with potatoe and beetroot side - it was all cooked perfectly and tasted divine. We had a gorgeous bottle of red wine, but I can't remember what it was called - but well selected by the restaurant. I would defintely recommend a meal out here.

A very relaxing and warm welcome from the owner who was more than happy to explain and describe the menu. We all opted for the House Platter and left it to our host to choose the dishes. The food was delicious, stews, lentils, vegetables, chickpeas and the Ethiopian bread to use as our eating utensils (knives and forks can be used as well!).A great night, great food and great hosting - excellent value too (my wife even bought an authentic shoulder bag). Well recommended....we'll be back! Thanks for a lovely evening.

The restaurant does not look like much from the outside (it is in a business centre), but once you are inside it is very different. You are hit by a beautiful aroma of fresh spices, and the internal décor makes you forget the outside world. The hosting was excellent and we had the house platter selection. We were asked what level of chilli would be acceptable, which was nice. We were given 2 main meat dishes, 1 main vegetarian dish, and 2 vegetable sides. This all came with the rather odd spongy Ethiopian pancake. On its own it tastes vinegary, but it should be used to pick up and eat the food and it complements the food really well. The outstanding dishes were the beetroot and potato dish, the lamb alicha and (especially) the shiro wot - a spicy ground chickpea dish. Everything was really well flavoured, fresh, and tasty. We couldn't finish everything, though we tried really hard to do so!We will be going back. The food was excellent and different from anything you get in other restaurants, and the hosting was friendly and helpful. Give it a try. I am sure you won't be disappointed.

We try to make the trip over to Abyssinia Kitchen from the other side of the Wirral every month or two. The food is fantastic, all fresh, and there are plenty of options for vegetarians and vegans. The portion sizes are just right and you can get as much injera as you like. The coffee is perfectly brewed as well. It’s all very relaxed and friendly. The owner clearly loves the food that she cooks, and takes an interest in what you think of the dishes. It always feels difficult to get to places around Heswall and the west of the Wirral because of the lack of public transport but it is so worth getting across if you’re considering travelling over from Liverpool or the surrounding area.

My husband and I had heard good things about this restaurant so decided to give it a try.We had a vegan sharing platter for two. This included three injeera pancakes and four small bowls, two with veg and two with lentils. The food is very nice but as we only had one and a half pancakes each and only two spoons each of each of the bowls we left hungry. In our opinion the portions could be larger, customers would then feel they had better value and not leave hungry.

A wonderful small, clean and friendly little restaurant serving authentic Ethiopian dishes. The standard Ethiopian 'flatbread', "Njera" was nicely prepared and served with plentiful top ups. The various different stews and sauces were all freshly prepared and very tasty. I've been meaning to write a review since visiting the Abyssinia Kitchen a few weeks ago. Me and my husband had the best meal we have had since moving nearby at the beginning of the year. The owner and chef, Hilina was so friendly and welcoming and spent time explaining a few things about the menu. There was so much vegetarian / vegan choice. We both opted for the deal which allowed you to choose on of the lentil dishes and one of the vegetable dishes and this came with rice and Ethiopian bread. The flavors were absolutely stunning and included an authentic berbere sauce. I loved trying the Injera bread. If you're looking for something a little different, you could do a lot worse than Abyssinia - an intimate, friendly and very personal experience. The place is only small (6 or so covers), and we dined with two friends, having the place to ourselves (which can sometimes be a little weird) but this didn't affect our evening. It was more like we'd dropped by a friend's house who was going to rustle up some interesting dishes to try and that's how it went. The waiter took care of our drinks, and the owner gave us a brief introduction to Ethiopian cuisine, before helping us choose our 5 dish sharing platter (£15pp) before she promptly disappeared to cook our dishes. Normally, my preference is for meat dishes (which we ordered 2 of) but our complimentary veggie dishes we ordered were really delicious - so much so, I actually preferred them! Spiced lentil and a potato and cabbage dish served in different traditional sauces, all served with a pancake style bread which was perfect for wrapping, rolling and dipping - which is what you're encouraged to do, eating with your hands. A locally-made ginger ice cream (although not Ethiopian) was a tasty palette freshener to close an interesting meal. Very friendly service and worth wandering off the Heswall main drag to try. My only constructive feedback would be the signage. We were given a lift and dropped off directly opposite the Whitfield Business Hub (outside the Sainsbury's express, near Harvest Mouse) and didn't spot it straight away! I'm sure it could get more trade with a more prominent (and more noticeable) sign above the top of the windows. Look forward to exploring more tastes of Africa.

We understand that it is a new restaurant and takes time to get off its feet but unless some of the service issues are sorted, it will not last which would be a real shame. The service was painfully slow and the waitress didnt know any of the dishes. On top of that, it is a bring your own alcohol restaurant which is fine but we didnt know before we came and were directed to sainsburys. The most shocking thing was the corkage - each PERSON was charged £3 per head corkage. So in other words, if you had 1 bottle of wine and shared it between 5 people it was £15 corkage! We have never come across this before and believe it is a really bad business model - it would seriously put me off. Charge corkage by all means, but it should be a fixed price like other restaurants. All this said, the food is really amazing and i hope the team can address these issues to make sure this is a thriving business as it should be.

We are so lucky to have this unusual and delicious cuisine available on the Wirral. Ethiopian food is such a great sharing experience and this is the best one I have been to yet. If you don’t know the food style just try it, it’s not spiced heavily, it’s just simply delicious. This place caters very well for vegetarians too, a very large choice is available

Our first time eating ethipian food and what a joy. Going straight to the main course, we decided on the meat sharing platter, choosing two meat options and three vegetarian options. We had the lamb and the siga wot beef dishes with red lentils, beetroot and potato and the carrot cabbage and potato.Wow!!!. Served with flat bread or rice, we went for the bread which was really different (I think made from millet flour).Ethiopian coffee for a finish. We weren't disappointed, every dish was really flavoursome and combined to make a really different meal experience. The owners are really keen to ensure that everything is just right and it was really good value for money. We booked to go back again in a fortnights time with other friends, I cannot wait to try the other dishes.

We had dinner here with our vegetarian friends. It was good to discover a restaurant with so many vegetarian options..Very friendly staff, and Helena, the chef and proprietress, was helpful in explaining things to us.We chose a veg and non-veg sharing platter, along with injera ( bread). All of it was very tasty.

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The atmosphere was great, the staff were very friendly and super helpful.Ethiopian food was new to me, however is now a firm favourite. As a vegan I was very impressed by the range of options available on the menu. We opted for the vegetarian sharing platter (also suitable for vegans) so we could try as many of the dishes as possible. All were excellent, and were perfectly accompanied by the traditional sourdough flatbread. The owner was justifiably keen to share the experience and cuisine. All in all a great find.

It was so frustrating, the orders took an age to come and then things were left off, so members of our party had to wait, while others ate their meals before they went cold. One thing was glaringly obvious the plates were cold, just hate this. We spent most of the evening waiting for ordered food to come, food brilliant but service just awful.

First visit and not our last. Very warm welcome, good choice on the menu, excellent variety of hits on the taste buds. If you want quality food in a relaxed atmosphere, no rushing from course to course, then this is for you. Meatball starter nice and spicy but not too hot, followed by the lamb which was a cracker. Best lamb dish ever.Ethiopian food comes to Heswall, and about time.

My wife and I visited for dinner on a Thursday evening. She is vegetarian and we were drawn to the interesting options on the menu and we have never been to an Ethiopian restaurant before! We wee confused why there were wine glasses on the table as when we asked for a glass of wine the waitress said they do not serve alcohol. I was not offered that we could bring our own as would have popped out to Sainsbury opposite and have only noticed this by reading the other reviews so I think this should be made clearer. The food was excellent and tasty and was enough for the two of us as we went for the mixed meat and vegetarian platter. The bread is a bit of a “marmite” and people will either really like it or loathe it. My wife loved it whereas I was the opposite. The host was lovely and welcoming and would go back and recommend this only next time I will take a bottle....

Visited on Sunday evening and had the most fabulous food. The restaurant has just opened but showed little sign of teething problems. The service was excellent and atmosphere was great. We took our own wine and were charged a small corkage fee. Really excellent place-we'll be back!

Visited with my daughter who is 5. The owner was great helping us to identify food for a fussy 5 year olds taste! All the food was so tasty and freshly made. Highly recommend!

So glad we decided to try this place. A warm welcome and lovely food. We went for the sharing plate with 2 meat and 3 veg dishes. The chef/boss helped with a recommendation (the lamb dish) for our 5 year old. Very tasty food and lots of it. Great value as well. We'll be going back soon.

The food was very tasty with good options for both meat eaters and vegans. First time trying Ethiopian cuisine and loved it - the injera bread was unusual but tasty. Definitely coming back. The home made coffee was very nice.

This cutsie little restaurant is wonderful all round, from the decor, the food and the owner. The food is beautifully different, so many different flavours and textures, unlike the other reviewer who wasn’t so keen on the Ethiopian soda bread, I thought it complemented the food perfectly. If you are veggie or vegan you have a wonderful choice also.Hilina is the lovely owner who will advise and guide you if you so choose.Just love this restaurant!

Looking for something a little different? (aren't we all?) - this is the place. Only opened a few days ago and already really popular. Casual, friendly, atmosphere, spotlessly clean. Lovely Hilina from Ethiopia cooks and serves delicious cuisine. OK, so, being new, still one or two things to iron out - service can be a little slow (until she gets the extra staff she definitely needs) and the bread (cold and a bit spongy) is not to the majority English palate but, hey, everything else is 10/10. Prices really reasonable too. Visit while you can still get a table. Mainly Hilina is SO nice, she deserves it to be a success.

Ordered 2 meals online at 6.30pm with delivery confirmation in 60 mins. Rang to chase order 1 1/2 hrs later to be told driver had left 10 mins previously and should with here in a few mins. Half an hour later (2 hours after ordering) rang back to cancel order as still hadn’t turned up. Next minute driver turned up with order which was cold, soggy and quite frankly disgusting. Not the first bad experience I’ve had with this restaurant but thought would give benefit of the doubt. Sorry I bothered. Will not be ordering again and would NOT recommend.
