Aberdeen Blue Elephant Restaurant in Aberdeen City

Honestly not one thing that I can say was good about this place. The food, which is the absolute most important was horrendous, the first curry that I’ve had with no flavour (aside from a feint taste of cigarette ash - bit Benedicte of the doubt, I assume that this was from the tandor oven). We ordered Chicken Tikka, which has marinated chicken - it came with rice - but this is easily the most we’ve ever paid for this dish £15.95 per portion) but given the average 4.5 stars we thought that it must be good quality. We were wrong, and the vegatable curry which usually comes with chicken tikka, was flavourless water with some frozen veg in (peas, sweetcorn, carrots - Truly grusome). I can honestly say that this is possibly the Worse take-away that I’ve had, regardless of price and type of food. I could never recommend this place to anyone, and if you are considering ordering from here - don’t, you will regret it.

How you got 4.5 stars must be fabricated. Rice was mushy, chicken tikka starter was extremely dry and on bone(not as advertised) chicken madras was not one bit hot and the meat(chicken) had the wrong texture indicating it was frozen. The salad was discoloured, old. Popadum was not crispy it was again old and the wrong texture. I don’t usually complain but this was a terrible experience. Easily the worst in Aberdeen, avoid!

Wonderful experience, excellent food, lovely service. This was our second visit, and we will go back again and again. My daughter had the salmon curry which she loved and our chicken curries were delicious. It is very good calue for money as well. The owner is also very friendly.

I've been a few times to this restaurant for take-away. Unfortunately standards have steadily slipped with my last meal being extremely disappointing (chicken Rogan Josh in a watery, bland, unappetising sauce (despite the menu stating 'thick sauce'). The garlic bread and rice were palatable - though nothing special. What, however, was truly disappointing was the poor customer service I received - despite being a regular custmer. There was no attempt to remedy the issue; just a nonchalant dismissal. Luckily there are plenty of other perfectly good restaurants in the city.

Got a takeaway for the first time ever from here and it was ok, nothing special. The broccoli in my main course still had little leaves on it, like it had been chopped off too far down the stalk. The mushroom rice was really salty and I woke up at 4am desperately needing water. Was ok, but not the best I've ever had.

We were going to a gig in town on Sunday night, and a curry was the order of the day. I was very perturbed by a recent 1 star review, but we kept the faith and we were rewarded with fine food!! Popadoms and sauce for a quick snack followed by a Karahi and Jalfrezi with mushroom rice, totally as expected, lovely. Good service and great food at a very reasonable cost of about £35 including a beer!!! Our go to curry house when in Aberdeen!!

I have been using this Indian since 2002 and used to be amazing food but unfortunately I have just had my last meal from The Blue Elephant. This is the 4th increasingly bad meal I have had over the last 18 months and my loyalty has ran out. Rubbery chicken that is tasteless and only 6 pieces swimming in sauce! Onion bag from Morrisons yes I have bought them there too. All the food tonight I could do better at home myself and for half the price. Prices have went up and quality has went massively down. I think the owner should go back in the kitchen and see how bad the food has become since he became a waiter his food was 100 times better than what I have had now 4 times in 18 months. I don’t normally leave reviews I simply don’t return if bad however I have been a patron for 20 years of this restaurant and am so disappointed in how it has become because at 1 time you could not find a better Indian meal in Aberdeen. Sadly I will never be back.

Worst Indian takeaway we have had. So we are not very adventurous when it comes to an Indian and always have Kurma. We are always told by the waiters we have that it is the easiest dish for their chefs so why oh why was our takeaway tonight just a runny chicken soup type kurma. Absolutely disgusting and as a family who always order this dish we can honestly say this was the worst we have ever had. We won’t be returning customers.

We have been to many Indian restaurants as it is my favorite food. There were 5 of us, so we ordered different dishes and shared. We had the Uttar Pradish Masala (lamb), a Tikha Masala, chicken shashlik tandoor, and two other dishes, along with the pompadams, garlic naan, and samosas. All the food was fabulous, but the Tikha masala surprised everyone. The flavors were just great - the best Tikha masala I’ve ever had. Usually it’s a tasty if not a bit boring, but this had a creamy texture and slight nutty flavor that made it stand out. The service was excellent, presentation, friendliness, etc. I would definitely come back (although we are here for a wedding, so not sure when I’ll get back to Aberdeen.).

My friends and I were simply after good food while we enjoyed each other's company. We were actually just going to use 'Deliveroo' or 'Uber Eats' and order familiar fast food from one of Aberdeen's chain restaurants. The decision to instead dine in The Blue Elephant was one we did not regret. We walked in, "table for 7, please", and were invited through the restaurant to the seating area, which was peacefully quiet on this Monday night. The waiters joined two tables together for us and re-set our cutlery, preparing us for a smooth service. The staff were patient with our indecision as we browsed the large and exciting menu, getting us drinks while we pondered. They were extremely accomodating to my partner and I's vegan dietary requirements, allowing us the set meal for two with appropriate adjustments. The food itself was spectacular: crispy and flavoursome pakoras; curries deep in flavour, individuality, and masterful seasoning; soft and flavourful rice; warming chipatis; mouthwatering mango sauce; complemented by fresh and crunchy popadoms. One of my friends at the table was from India herself and was amazed by the food's authenticity. Our meal was amazing value, and, much to our budgeting student selves' joy, staff packaged and bagged up what we were too full to finish. It was excellent value, and they provided us a student discount, without us even thinking to ask for such a thing. Overall, this was a magical experience. I left the restaurant excited for my next visit, and in awe of my current one. This night with friends was made all the more special by this stellar cuisine and friendly, flawless service. If you are in Aberdeen, this restaurant is most definately worth your time, money, tastebuds. Cannot recommend it enough. See you soon, hopefully, The Blue Elephant :)

I received a Groupon voucher for my Xmas which was a meal for 2, with starters. Valid to be used until March - however when I tried to use it was abruptly told they weren't accepting them anymore! However if I contacted Groupon and cancelled with them, then book a table with Blue Elephant direct, they would do the same offer- so basically I can't use my Xmas present! I would advise no one to bother buying a voucher as a present for this place because it turns out it's not worth the paper it's printed on, and your left with the hassle of trying to get a refund - which if it's a gift you won't actually see yourself. Giant con by this establishment.

As the title suggests I can only think the chicken was boiled and definitely spent no time in a tandoori oven, I had one piece then left the rest . The salad for the starters was next to the curry, so by the time it was delivered it was a squelchy mess . Not much better for the popadoms as they were soft and required tearing instead of snapping [ we left the rest of those ] Other than that it was great !

Not sure how anyone can give chicken drenched in tomato soup a 5/5. Got a dupiaza madras hot and it was poor! My friend got a chicken tikka bunna( not even spelt right) and it tasted the same.

We have been several times before, but not since Covid, it was great to get out for such a lovely meal. We bought a Groupon voucher for £24.00 which was two courses for two people a real bargain. On arrival we were offered papadums as part of the deal so they were quickly consumed!! The mains were off the chef’s specials or the main stream curries with a portion of rice and a Nan bread.
