Abacus Cantonese Restaurant in Belfast

Little out of the way but a great feed and excellent staff. Ultra friendly to your face and your wallet - certainly makes for a great birthday destination.

We stayed in Belfast for a couple of nights and we ate here both nights as the food was amazing. Well balanced flavours, generous serves, great choice on menu and staff very polite and friendly. We had the aubergines hotpot, a serve of garlic beans (amazing) and the beef noodle soup. They also bring out complimentary prawn chips! Delicious with a beer! Would highly recommend. Nice and quiet for easy conversation.

Bad food, the rice is amazing expensive

Este es un restaurante cantonés amable y bueno en la Botánica en Belfast. Tiene un menú variado y nuestro pato de Pekín era excelente, ya que somos los principales. Vale la pena visitarlo.

Other than the chips being cold had to heat in the microwave everything else was okay.

Spring chicken was dry and no peas.

Curry Sauce was a bit bland. the shredded beef was like cardboard. Salted chilli chicken was tolerable, rice was even mediocre. best part was the Steam dumplings which were average at best. very disappointed as I have heard a lot of good reviews about here. Probably wouldn't order again

Got a take out a couple of weeks ago. Horrendous. Tiny portions and hardly edible. The spring rolls are those nasty tiny ones that even Iceland would be embarrassed to sell. Very expensive as well. Even though the portions are small we didn't even eat it all as it was so blah.

They are all racists in there, and if you order take out, they’ll give you another order. I ordered beef fried rice, they gave me something else

Really disappointing. Wife got a chicken curry which was bland, lacked bite and rubbery chicken. I got what was meant to be a hot and spicy chicken. Like a flavourless black bean sauce and again rubbery chicken. My main issue is if you are going to charge higher prices then the food must match that. One plus was the delivery was quick! The ribs we got as sides were just okay too.

This is one of the nicer Chinese restaurants around with tasty food. But they now have a 10% service charge added to all bills even just for a group of 3. Have noticed this starting to come into different places. Wouldn’t eat inside here again unless they change it.

Unfortunately both the vegetables and chips were underdone, the chips especially so, and the hot and spicy sauce was neither and watery as well.

(Pensando que estaba haciendo bien en caso de que no hubieran probado la salsa) de todos modos, llamo y estoy explicando que esta era la segunda entrega recibida y faltaban artículos y expliqué el problema con la salsa. Yo había pedido específicamente galletas de langostinos con mi orden. Que me dijeran que conseguiría galletas de langostinos gratis con un pedido de más de £ 20, así que pensé brillantemente bajo y mira. No llegaron galletas de gambas. Le expliqué esto en la llamada con un hombre, no estoy seguro de su nombre y me dijo que no conseguiría galletas de langostinos ya que mi orden era 19. 80 con entrega ( 22 . 80 ) Luego expliqué que pedí pagar galletas saladas de langostinos pero me dijeron que los liberaría. Derrotar el propósito de pedirlos. En esta etapa un lamento habría sido suficiente, sin embargo su respuesta fue bien que no era yo en el teléfono. Luego expliqué los elementos que faltaban de antes y una vez más se me dijo bien que no era yo. En este punto creo que esto debe ser una broma. De hecho, tuve que tomarme un segundo para procesar lo que realmente estaba diciendo. Le dije que una disculpa no faltaría. Y dijo que no lo siento. No estaba aquí cuando te pasó eso. ¿Perdón qué? ¿Pero no trabajas allí y representas al restaurante? ¡Como vamos! Luego expliqué que la comida no era comestible con la salsa de curry siendo tan salada y su respuesta fue sí bueno no estaría en desacuerdo con ese sí. Dije bien que no te disculparías ni lo arreglarías y su respuesta fue no. Le dije que sí sabes que hay un cliente que dice que siempre tiene razón, (ahora créeme que sé que no siempre es así) pero fui educado al explicar mi problema y no estaba tratando de ser incómodo, solo quería hacerles saber como sucedió más de una vez. Su respuesta fue no, no creo en ese dicho. Jajajaja. En este punto he terminado con la conversación. Como vamos. ¿Este restaurante no aprecia a sus clientes o quiere alguna costumbre. Estoy completamente incrédulo. Además de esto, mi pareja solo me acaba de avisar que hace un par de meses, cuando había ido al restaurante por un pedido, lo había hecho, tenía otro problema de anteriores cuando yo no estaba allí y básicamente le dijeron que no quieren la costumbre o necesitan la costumbre. Realmente aconsejaría aprender algunas habilidades básicas de servicio al cliente. Es horrible. Soy dueño de mi propio establecimiento de comida y mi personal o yo nunca nos comportaríamos así. Cuando nos equivocamos pedimos disculpas y tratamos de rectificar el problema lo más rápido posible. No soy de los que nunca escriben comentarios, pero nunca volveremos a usar su restaurante de nuevo y estoy disgustado por cómo me hablaron. Claramente no aprecia o necesita la costumbre!

Excellent food , friendly service & reasonably priced.

Love the Abacus but I diverged from my usual choice to go for the Hong Kong BBQ Combo.. an expensive option.. but it turned out to be mostly bone without much meat at all

Food was delicious as usual and collection was on time. No waiting around which was great.

£3 for late delivery? My daughter works in the community & it’s important delivery in the window set. This is an embarrassment £3 for late delivery which was not to the level expected so can you please look at this further please

Tried 2 leave a proper review but characters limited, avoid at all costs!!! They are taking on more than they can cater for and when calling to find out where my order was 2 hours after ordering the member of staff thought I couldn’t hear them and was calling me crazy. Staff acknowledged they are too busy…. Why not just switch off and stop receiving orders from online until you can fulfil the orders already placed

order was close to an hour late.. made order at 7pm and food never came until 21:10 was due between 20:00-20:20..

I did like the chicken curry sauce 😋. The pork perking was too sweet for me. the menu should be a bit detailed for first time consumers. Overall it was okay 👍🏻

Food is always amazing and really great staff

Saturday we got a take away from here, it was really lovely, piping hot,good portions, tasty. It took time to get our food ,but we didn’t mind as was very busy and a good indicator of good food as a lot of people waiting. Have to mention how friendly the staff are. And thanks for the free soft drinks that were offered to everyone waiting on their takeaways, nice gesture. We will be back

Food was 90mins late, 3 of 5 items were cold. Awful customer service. No refund and will never order again!

Really great food, friendly and quick service with a nice chilled atmosphere. Some of the best Chinese food in Belfast for sure. Big portions sizes too so make sure you turn up hungry!

First time here tonight couldn't fault

accidentally delivered the wrong beef dish (understandable mistake as its busy on a friday evening), called up and let them know and they brought the correct meal out in no time at all with complimentary drinks. great customer service. thanks

8 of us dined ther this week. 6/24. The food was absolutely delicious . Portion sizes could have been bigger but it was all very, very tasty. Service was quite attentive and seating good. Also it's quite expensive - averaging about £35 pp. The toilets were upstairs which wasn't great and they were smelly, with some of the facilities not working. This was very poor and off putting. All in all, we'd go back, but will inquire if the toilet facilities have been renovated before hand.

The food was mediocre in flavour. Among other things, we ordered a curry. I've never eaten such a bad curry. And that for £12.80 and without rice. The menu does not list what is included in the dish. For example, whether mushrooms, peppers or something similar are included. The waitress was friendly but rather helpless when we asked. We didn't get a satisfactory answer to any of our questions. Another £5 was simply added to the total bill. This was done without giving any reason. Unfortunately we cannot recommend this restaurant.

Este horror de un individuo debe ser consciente de que no todos tenemos a nuestros padres y luego me dijo que la comida se estaba cocinando. 5 minutos después llegó. Deja esto a un lado gritado Quiero decir gritado ¿Quería que mi pedido fuera cancelado en shock total en el que no confiaba, de nuevo me gritó por teléfono. Solo llamé y pregunté cortésmente cuándo podíamos esperar la entrega. ¡Me colgaron el teléfono! Con absoluta incredulidad de cómo me hablaron, devolví la llamada y pedí hablar con el gerente que era “Paul”. Dije con razón lo grosero que había sido conmigo, en este punto volvió a empezar a gritar y terminó la llamada en la que me dijeron que ***** fuera! ¡Nunca me había encontrado con un servicio y un comportamiento tan horribles en mi vida! La comida en sí estaba por debajo de la media.

Comida para llevar pedida, llamada después de 30 minutos para preguntar educadamente el estado de la entrega, nunca han sido recibidos con tanta grosería en toda mi vida... . ¿cómo nos atrevemos a llamar después de “15 minutos” (no fue 30! ) y ¿dónde creemos que está nuestra orden ... su “estar cocinado en la cocina” nos colgó y cuando volvimos a llamar para pedir hablar con el gerente ... aparentemente fue este “Paul” mismo ... a lo que luego nos dijeron que “vamos a la mierda nosotros mismos y nuestra orden se cancela” absolutamente escandalosa manera de hablar con nadie, claramente tiene las habilidades sociales de un burro y es incapaz de hacer frente a la presión! Desafortunadamente, la orden apareció de todos modos a pesar de que lo canceló, la comida era muy deficiente en algo como Paul el propietario! Nunca volvería a pedir desde aquí y sin duda no recomendaría.

It's my go to place for spicy food - you do have to mention you want it spicy though. One of the best Chinese restaurants in Belfast.

The curry was a little weaker than i expected but overall a nice meal

They have a big menu to display but many items weren't available when we ordered and hence have to keep changing orders. The satay kabab was okay to taste, the abacus special dish was indeed special as it was extremely sweet (felt as if it's a sugar syrup). The chicken noodles, on other hand, was so dry that we had to mix with the abacus special dish so that we can swallow it. The udon noodles was alright. The only good dish was complementary prawn crackers. Overall, it's a highly disappointing dinner. I have had better Chinese food nearby in Belfast. Atmosphere is good as it's completely empty restaurant and we dropped in as we didn't get seats anywhere else. I don't think I a going to return anyways even if I don't get a place on future for dinner.

Called in for something to eat on Sunday 21 April after a gig in the nearby Mandela Hall. It was late in the evening but despite this the staff were very friendly and accommodating. A wide variety of choices on the menu including draught beer. Service was prompt and the food was delicious and very reasonably priced. I would definitely return here

Black bean and salted chilli chicken are great. Chips were so crispy. The staff were so lovely as well.

Got special Honey Soya and Duck curry. Meat was poor quality for both. Dried rice was quite pale. Chips ok. Delivery was fast.

Salt chilli chicken and beef was basically just batter, rock solid, with hardly any meat. Wasn’t the warmest when it arrived either.

My boyfriend and I love abacus Chinese! The food is moderately expensive for a takeaway but definitely worth it if you are sitting in. The food is absolutely incredible. I recommend the king prawn fried rice, although I personally need to add more soy sauce. I also recommend the Singapore chow mein - I tried them last night and they were 10/10. The restaurant has a very nostalgic feel to it. It has the wooden interior of a late 2000s Chinese restaurant which I just love, however on our last visit there was a raucous coming from upstairs. I found this very off putting and it frustrated me during the 10 minutes we were there, so I can only imagine how annoying this must have been for the dining in- customers. Altogether, with friendly and helpful staff, delicious dishes and reasonable prices abacus Chinese is one of my favourite Chinese restaurants in Belfast city.

Comfort food, after a busy day!

We were staying at a hotel round the corner and thought we would try this restaurant. The food was really lovely and the service was good. I would most definitely recommend

VILE STAFF BE CAREFUL before ordering from here, and especially if you are using a third party app like Uber Eats. The restaurant offers zero updates on your wait times and gets offended if you call to request an update. I actually had a verbal argument with the loser on the other end of the phone, who chose to raise his tone to aggressive. I hung up on him and then he called me back to call me horrendous names down the phone. Not surprising he’s unhappy, working in a Chinese, but that aint our problem. AVOID

Food arrived 80 minutes late and wasn’t the warmest either. Took 30 minutes to get a response from the restaurant regarding the order. Very poor!

We were stopping at a hotel 100yds away, but didn’t like their menu. It was a Saturday night and we spotted this restaurant and didn’t think for a minute they would be able to accommodate us. We spoke to the manager and he seated us straight away, the staff were very friendly, efficient and professional. The food was delicious, we couldn’t fault it. If we visit Belfast again we wouldn’t hesitate to call back.

Don’t bother ordering from here via Just Eat, they cannot cope with the volumes. We waited 2.25hrs for our order and barely an apology. The delivery man wasn’t even supposed to be working tonight. Food was usual great quality.

Ist time visiting Belfast, staying at hotel, near Abacus. Lovely Saturday evening, I walked around for over an hour looking for somewhere nice to eat but literally, after trying 7 restaurants, all fully booked - I began to think a chicken wrap and crisps were going to be my dining experience - when my lovely reception hotel staff rang Paul at Abacus and managed to get me a table for one person. Paul even met me at the front door. Waiting staff were very attentive, food arrived hot, plentiful and delicious, I was delighted. Would heartily recommend. Clearly a very popular local restaurant.
