A Sushi Japanese and Korean Restaurant in Coventry

Stopped by for a late lunch on a Saturday. The menu is easy to read and gives an explanation of each dish. I ordered the LA Galbi with boiled rice, which had a great bulgogi flavour. The meat was leaner than what I find in most restaurants, and because of this, it was not too greasy, which was quite pleasant. The onions underneath the Galbi were a little bit undercooked to my liking but still a compliment to the dish, being quite mild in flavour. The other dish I ordered was the Agedashi Tofu. The sauce was more sour and vinegar based than what I was expecting, but I have never eaten this dish before, so it could just be how it is. The tofu itself was nicely fried and light in texture. The rice and green tea were standard to what you'd expect from a restaurant with 4.5 star reviews. The service was polite and pleasant without being overbearing. I will be visiting again to try other dishes on the menu.

This small, cosy Japanese and Korean restaurant is located on Hertford Street in Coventry. We visited on a Monday evening and, apart from one other diner, had the place to ourselves. The décor is a mix of traditional Japanese and Korean styles, with simple tables and chairs providing plenty of space for customers. We were warmly welcomed by a polite member of staff who showed us to our table. The restaurant was clean, with basic mats and chopsticks set out. The menu, in English, features pictures of each dish alongside descriptions of the ingredients, making it easy to navigate, even for those new to Japanese and Korean cuisine. For starters, we ordered Wakame (seaweed) and Tori Karage (deep-fried chicken thighs), which arrived within five minutes. The Wakame, served cold in a light sauce, wasn’t to my taste, but my wife enjoyed its fresh, briny flavour. The Tori Karage was excellent—crispy, boneless, and served with a tasty dip. For mains, we chose Beef Bulgogi and Chicken Bulgogi, both with boiled rice. While we would have preferred more time between courses, the dishes were delicious. The beef was sliced so thinly that it melted in the mouth, while the chicken was spicy, which my wife found a bit too hot. Portions were generous, and I couldn’t finish my beef dish. Each table has a button to call for service, a thoughtful touch. The staff were attentive without being intrusive, unlike in many Western restaurants. This was our first visit to Asushi, and we’ll certainly be back. Special thanks to the polite young lady who served us and to the chef, whose skill in preparing the beef was impressive.

Lovely restaurant, me and a colleague of mine eat here often for lunch. I've also been for dinner a handful of times. Good selection of tasty dishes, I highly recommend the beef bulgogi bibimbap. Waiters are very polite and the general ambience is very relaxing, 10/10.

I personally believe this sushi restaurant offers the best value for money in the West Midlands. Despite lacking luxurious decor, it excels by focusing on the basics. The rice, for instance, isn't overcooked and mushy like you find in many other places. Instead, it maintains a pleasant texture that complements the sushi well. While I suspect the restaurant is run by Koreans, this doesn't bother me. In the UK, my primary concerns are the freshness of the fish and the quality of the rice. If these two elements are handled well, I'm more than satisfied. Fresh fish is a must for good sushi, and this place certainly delivers on that front. The rice is also crucial, and here, it has a nice bite without being too hard or too soft. Overall, this restaurant manages to combine good quality with affordability, making it a standout choice in the area. I appreciate their approach of focusing on the essentials rather than getting caught up in fancy decor. It's a straightforward, no- frills experience that delivers where it matters most. For anyone looking for great sushi without breaking the bank, this place is definitely worth a visit. I personally think this sushi restaurant is the most cost-effective sushi restaurant in the West Midlands. Although it does not have luxurious decoration, everything is back to basics. At least the rice will not be overcooked like those outside. I believe this shop is run by Koreans, but I wouldn’t be too demanding in the UK. As long as the fish is fresh and the vinegar rice tastes good, I’m satisfied.

My mum has started getting bento boxes and has told her younger sister that she would like to try a proper sushi restaurant. I’ve was told this and thought it would be a nice treat. I booked a table, but it was a Tuesday night, so not so busy, but I have been caught it before. We chose the deluxe sushi platter so that she could get a good selection. Although she can’t use chop sticks she was happy to pour a bit of soy sauce on and eat it with a fork. She loved every bit, as did I. Lovely waitress and as always a real mix of nationalities eating, which is always nice.

keaway food - was tasty but skimpy on the masago. Pickled ginger has the right flavour to it, and the service was swift. Only downside was the awkward silence with no place to wait (none offered by the host either )so we ended up leaning on the bar stools

The day after eating, all four of us had diarrhea. The sashimi was extremely unfresh, and we could feel it while eating. The taste was mediocre. The service was also poor, and we were dissatisfied in every aspect.

A lovely restaurant with nice feel, cost atmosphere but most importantly the best Korean food in Coventry. I have tried majority of their menu and so far, everything is simply top notch. Fresh, tasty and a pleasure to look at. Moreover, if you're a sushi fan look no further, as they offer the best sushi in town. Made freshly, on the spot (you can see as its being prepared in open cooking area) and absolutely delicious! Strong recommendation for anyone who enjoys Korean and Japanese cuisine! As hidden gem of Coventry that definitely deserves all the love and attention!

Tastiest miso soup and sushi I've ever had!

A regular favourite for our wedding anniversary. Never fails to please. The sushi boat is wonderful, but it needs a good appetite to fully appreciate it!

Popped in here earlyish, on a Saturday evening and the place was pretty empty and we managed to get a table without booking, which is very lucky. As soon as we sat down the place started to fill up and eventually people were going turned away. We both went with a soup dish, which we didn’t realise, came in a heated stone bowl. The soup never seemed to cool, but the flavours were amazing. Never disappointed.

Highly recommended. We love it. Perfect place to take your other half for a romantic meal, or even the family

Nice place if you’re only having sushi. When I went there the first time, I had salmon bibimbap and sushi rolls. I liked it and decided to come again. Unfortunately, I ordered Japanese udon, which tasted absolutely terrible. I have never eaten such a bad soup. Seafood was very rubbery, the broth was flavourless, salty and inedible. I will not be coming back, the place seems to be limited to sushi versus full lunch or dinner options.

Food is amaizing and stuff is very friendly! We went for dinner date and never eat so much as in Shishi, menue is big and it is hard to decide as all food looks amaizing. Food arived fast too and all been so delicious that we definitely be back!

My son and I visited this very small restaurant one weekday evening. It was my very first exposure to Sushi and sadly it did not end happily for me. As a big fan of fish I was looking forward to the experience and being my first time we chose the Assorted Sushi Boat. It was beautifully presented, but I found most of it tasteless (that was probably because it was not just to my taste and not the fault of the chef and so I will assess it as average). Unfortunately, over the next couple of days I suffered from the most awful food poisoning, I have no specific proof it was the sushi but can’t think what else it might have been. My son was ok, but he did not have the prawns. The staff were a little impersonal. There were no puddings available. It was an expensive meal and such a shame I did not enjoy it, it will be my last sushi!

Booked a table for 10 . Table was in a room upstairs where they stored their junk . Only bottled beer not kept in fridge. Understaffed. Walked in and first thought …,, what a sh__ hole . Nearly walked back out . Food was ok .

I go here a lot especially if I'm on my own and fancy Korean food for dinner. Just thinking about it makes me want to go again. The soft shell crab, the Tako Yaki and the Galbitang are great. The Yukgaejang (Spicy Beef Soup) is also amazing, so much so that I have the recipe and often make it at home .

There are a few Far Eastern restaurants in Coventry but this is great for special occasions, such as New Year’s Eve. I had booked a table earlier in the week, but when we entered at about 6 the place was pretty empty, although started to fill up with groups of students. Staff were very friendly and the flavours of the food were fantastic. Haven’t had a bad meal yet.

My friends and I always come here, whenever I’m donuts about food we choose A sushi. The bulgogi is so delicious and the chicken teriyaki is my new fav! I love the vibe and the feeling and the staff are amazing.

Came in here on our way to an event at The Assembly Gardens. It was early and the place was quite empty and we managed to get a table easily. Staff were very friendly and the choice of oriental food is incredible. As we were eating our meal groups of students arrived and the place filled up very quickly, people were actually turned away at the door, so this restaurant is very popular. Will definitely return, but will make sure I book a table.

The customer service was exceptionally good. The person serving us was so friendly and helpful which made our experience even more enjoyable. The food was delicious and authentic Korean cuisine. Next time we will try the sushi. We sat under the blossom tree :)

First time Ordering here!. Presentation was beautiful, food was delicious, and the service was magnificent. Very lovely people and great atmosphere. Definitely going to come back here in the future!

We enjoy to go out. Last night we went to this superb restaurant which we didn’t know before. We spent a lovely experience there with first-rate dishes and an experienced crew and a great chef. We added this venue in our phone list and we will no doubt come back soon. We highly recommend.

Dissapointed. The order (ubereats) was cancelled after 20 minutes delay and only after I asked for an update on the status. Such a pity as it seems most of the people are happy with the food.

Last week was the first time we visited this magnificent restaurant. But It is definitely not the last time. We enjoyed the evening a lot with the attentive service, with the exceptional dishes and wine and with the friendly charge. We will absolutely visit there again.

Such an underrated place. Delicious food! Sometimes lacks atmosphere but the food and company makes it worthwhile. Pre covid service was quick and efficient but as of late they have been understaffed and service can be slow. Regardless of this, this sushi place will always have my loyalty and I still reward them 5 stars because of the quality of the food. Always delicious, 100% recommend.

I was in Coventry on a job and needed some munch. This place had good reviews but I'm from London and notoriously fussy, so I cautiously entered. The greeting was pleasant enough and the young lady who came over was adorable. I ordered a 75. Tofu in teriyaki sauce with boiled rice. I also requested it spicey. I got my food in good time and sat on a bench poised for action. I wasn't at all disappointed. The temperature and quality of the cooking was spot on. Really, really delicious food. However, I'm not sure if my request for chilli was met. I normally carry a little jar of chilli cayenne. But I didn't have it today. It barely mattered as such was the calibre of the food. Bring on another job in Coventry so I was whip back into the high quality gaff

We love going out. Last night we went to this magnificent place which friends told us about. We had a delightful evening there with excellent food and an efficient team and a talented chief cook. We added this restaurant in our list and we will definitely visit again very soon. We highly recommend.

I absolutely adored my first visit, I loved the service and I loved my Doenjang Jjigae. It was absolutely delicious! Will be back to try more food!

The noodle soup seolleontang does not really taste good. But the prawn tempura roll and Bibimbap are awesome.

Great quality sushi, i recommend the mixed boat. Waiters need some training but the good food compensate for that and i will give a 5star review .

It was a quiet evening but the owner and waitress were fantastic, knowledge about the food and service was exceptional.

I had previously sent a photo of some sushi I had been eating to one of the women who were in my group on a trip to Japan earlier this year (just before lockdown) and she contacted me saying she wanted to come over to Coventry and get involved. I booked a table here, which was just as well because they were fully booked when we got there and sat in a really Japanese/artistic venue with a face blossom tree in the corner. The tables were partitioned off from each other and even that was stylish. Waitress was very helpful as we chose lots of different things of the menu but a big favourite was sushi, and I do love a gyoza. Lovely experience in a very smart restaurant, with a choice of Korean also. Whilst in Japan we had realised (were told) that tofu was not just a vegetarian thing but had lots of goodness that helps with your bones and the deep fried tofu was amazing. My friend said that she is definitely coming over from Leicester again if the food is this good.

I am replying to owners response I ate here before COVID-19 I got food poisoning I did advice the staff the fish had a very fishy smell and tasted very watery like it was frozen for the high price that is charged I was very disappointed with the service there and many other amazing sushi places in coventry for a fraction of the cost I would not recommend if you like sushi try Yaki

I have visited this restaurant several times. Never find the staff so rude. She required me to seat at the table near the window as according to her this is the only table for one. I am not blind that I can not see there are so many empty small tables which are the same size of the table near window. Should I be discriminated as I came by myself so I did not have the right to decide where to sit down? Besides I did not ask to sit at a big table. I did not want to sit near window as this small table is very close to the table nearby which have been occupied by two strangers. It makes me feel embarrassed so I asked to sit somewhere else, and there are, I am repeating this again, 😐plenty of same size tables. I did not understand why the staff was so rude and designate where I have to sit. So I just left. If u come by yourself, strongly do not recommend u to eat here as you as a customer is not respected at all. I suppose people do not pay to suffer. Besides, I remembered last several times when I visited this restaurant, I have sat at tables where this female staff said only two customers can sit. Why did not staff stopped me before? Never know why this females staff behave soooooo rude tonight.

I'd never even heard of this place until our friends suggested it and I'm so glad that they did. It's a lovely little place with a wide choice of food options. I'm not usually one for sushi but I gave it a try and it was great. For mains I had a spicy pork dish (can't remember the name) which was lovely, my husband had the beef ribs which were also great. It was quiet when we went with it being the weekend after New year's but was still a nice place to catch up with friends.

Beware they don't accept AMEX despite being listed on AMEX "Shop Small" offer and have an AMEX sticker on their door. Food is generally good though.

Perfect place if you want to eat frozen sashimi. Just to clarify, I am not complaining the fish was previously frozen, it was served frozen and full of water. Didn't even bother to explain how bad it is, just paid and left. It is a shame for japanese cuisine.

This site is my preferable place. Of all restaurants I know I like it most. I always suggests to my friends to go to this restaurant. Whenever I I need a good lunchon, this place comes instantly to my mind. very good and many types of food and a large list of dishes.courteous team, and pleasant mood. In addition to that, the expence is decent. I suggest this spot with no doubt.

Forget the spring onion for my unaju and my friend's tempura udon this time. Not as good as before. Good choice for dinner when they are not busy.

Good place to experience Korean dishes and sushi

Went last week and the food was AMAZING. I ordered Budae Jjigae and Tori Karage for me and my friend and it was PERFECT, it was abit rainy so the stew warmed us up immediately. The price was reasonable and the atmosphere is amazing (10/10 music too 👌) would recomend ANY time 🖒

An impromptu visit for something a little different, would definitely visit again! Great sashimi, tasted fresh and subtle. Lovely beef bibimbap in a hot dish, perfect amount of chilli, still glowing! Squid sashimi also good. All dishes well presented. Service relaxed and a pleasant atmosphere. Food is amazing! Suitable for people who doesn’t know whether they want to have korean or japanese food cuz they have both in one!
