Just impeccable. Food and service couldn't have been improved upon. Loved it. Wish I could afford to go more often!

The food is fantastic, the service is fantastic. The food is an experience it itself, it is fun elegant and delicious I really recommend if life bring you to Bury st Edmonds it really is a fantastic restaurant.

Easily one of the best places in Bury to eat! Went for lunch on a Friday, 3 courses for £29 is an absolute bargain for the quality of food you are getting. The wait staff are always friendly and will explain the elements of your dish when you receive it. Have been going for several years and have never been disappointed!

1921 On Saturday night we enjoyed celebrating our friends 60th birthday with a fabulous dining experience at 1921 a fine dining restaurant in Bury St. Edmunds. We arrived before our friends and received a very friendly welcome before being escorted to the bar. Here the team continued their warm welcome to us while we waited for our friends. Once they arrived we were seated at our table. We started with a cocktail before deciding to go for the Seven Course Tasting Menu with Wine Pairings. There is also a chance to have a selection of Canapés to enjoy with your drinks. The Canapés were absolutely delicious leaving us with great anticipation for what was to follow. The tasting menu started with a heavenly first course of Pumpkin Tortellini with pickled walnut and sage. This was followed by the Mersey Crab , Quail and Foie Gras Mosaic , Scallop Sirloin of SuffoyBeef , Pain Perdu and Mint Choc Chip. These dishes were paired beautifully with a delightful selection of wines. We also enjoyed fabulous service from all the team but especially our waitress Issy who was very friendly and professional. This really was a fantastic evening and definitely a restaurant that I would highly recommend. Many Thanks to all the team at 1921 and hope to see you again sometime in the future.

Very enjoyable evening. 7 course tasting menu with paired wines. Great food, one of the best crab dishes I've had. Interesting paired wines, not always the obvious which was a bomus. Excellent waiter who made us welcome, was very friendly and informative - he made a good evening great. We're not local, but I'd come back for a weekend to eat here again.

Consistently the best restaurant in Bury St Edmunds. Go for the taster menu and the flight of wine. Great for vegetarians and vegans.

We had the 7 course tasting menu here, absolutely fab. All 7 courses were lovely, the service was perfect, attentive but not intrusive and most importantly, happy. Really nice place, we even enjoyed the background music! The bill seemed very reasonable. Will be returning.

We had a great experience at 1921. We felt well looked after from the minute we arrived to the point we left. The chefs catered well for allergens (dairy and gluten free). We did the 7 course tasting menu and enjoyed each dish.

I have had some incredible meals, in various countries, but I must admit, our meal last night was absolutely phenomenal. The food was so flavoursome and the service first class. Highly recommend this restaurant and also if you come the tasting menu is the one to go for, really really great value too for a tasting menu. Worth every penny. We will be back!

My partner and I dined at 1921 last night and my goodness the evening was simply perfect. The food exquisite, they catered and adapted everything for coeliac. The service incredible and the most beautiful atmosphere. A huge thank you!

Dined here last night and could not have been a better experience. I have a few severe allergies which means dining out is sometimes a stressful experience but the staff and chefs were so accommodating and it meant I could still have a delicious and adapted 7 course tasting menu. First time dining here and will definitely be back.

My partner and I had a lovely meal here for our 2 year anniversary, the canapés were delicious and the mains were also amazing, the service was the unmatched , we were greeted with a wonderful card and chocolates to celebrate our anniversary and all staff members were polite and attentive. We will definitely be returning, a true gem of a place!

I've eaten here a couple of times and will definitely be coming back. Food highlights for me included the canapé selection, the stuffed rabbit and the deconstructed carrot cake (and I say that as one who normally regards anything described as "deconstructed" with deep suspicion but the carrot cake dish tasted absolutely amazing). The service was excellent and the prices surprisingly good value.

This is probably the best restaurant in East Anglia. Exceptional quality of food, cooking, and wine. Very creative dishes which are crafted with great skill and passion from top quality ingredients. Lunch set menue is £29 (as of Nov 2023) for three courses, and is great value for money. More expensive a la carte menu and excellent tasting menu available in the evening (also at lunchtime). Awesome canapé selection - go for the full platter as a sharer. This is where we go if we want a 'fancy' meal. Would have a Michelin star if they had a sommelier.

Amazing food and the service was very good

Very friendly and knowledgeable waiters. They managed to be very attentive without being intrusive, by which I was especially impressed. The food was exquisite. Cocktails were unique and very well balanced. Very pleasant atmosphere.

Last night was our first time at 1921 and what a discovery! Loved the cosy atmosphere, the food was delicious (full of flavours, different textures and great presentations) and the service was great! The cherry on the top was to receive a little gift from them for our wedding anniversary! Thank you for such a pleasant evening. We will definitely be coming back 😊

Came here two weeks ago for our wedding anniversary and had the 7 course taster menu. What a revelation! Amazing textures and tastes which were just heavenly. We aren’t people who take photos of our food as we prefer to enjoy the moment, but you won’t be sorry that you came here. Can’t wait to go back for my birthday. Beautiful ambience and great decor. This is the second time we have been to 1921 and it is fantastic. we had the 5 course tasting menu (again) & the creativity in the food, flavours, textures, presentation did not disappoint. We were a group of four and everyone loved it! The waiters & waitresses were funny, friendly & approachable and very knowledgeable on the dishes. Would definitely recommend.

We are compelled to go just so we can get ZacknAnnie'd - a new word that sums up the most amazing and deliciously addictive experience that only Chef Patron, Zack Deakins, can deliver along with his wonderful wife, Annie, and their amazing crew. From the moment you are warmly welcomed to the moment you float out on a cloud of culinary sunshine, your tastebuds will have been tantalised, titillated, and treated (our were by the 7-course taster menu and accompanying wine flights). Thank you Zack and Annie and also to our waiter, Kyle, and the lovely waitresses whose names, we are ashamed to say, have slipped our minds (we blame the superb wine flights), for making Sat 29 July so very special. We ate here for a special birthday treat and had the 5 course tasting menu with wine. Wow! What a birthday treat. The host was welcoming when the weather was not, they accommodated our every wish and the food was sublime. Having the wine flight with the food was a piece of genius, unusual grapes from different countries that brought out the best flavour in the food (and the wine), Can't wait to go back.

We had a large company celebration meal here and chose the tasting menu with wine. I really enjoyed it. I also have every allergy under the sun and the chef was able to accommodate me.

Absolutely amazing tasting menu, catered for my nut allergy with no issues and is now possibly my favourite fine dining experience so far. It’s inexpensive for what it is, i would say go there while you can get a whole tasting menu of that standard for that price.

A lovely setting for good food, this was our first visit to 1921. We had the five course tasting menu, which came with a surprise sixth course of a selection of all the current canapés to try. The food was extremely good, high quality, and where possible was locally sourced. The pea soup was absolutely delicious, with goat's curd and mint and a tiny pea scotch egg. The crab wrapped in mooli with wasabi and apple was fresh and beautiful. The lobster with a crispy chicken wing and sweetcorn puree was sumptuous, and the main of lavender-spiced duck and beetroot was rich and indulgent, and definitely different to anything I've tried before. The desert was a vanilla slice with chocolate ice cream and coffee gel, and was just the right amount of sweet to finish a meal without being too heavy. The staff were polite, charming, and knowledgeable, and the atmosphere was cosy and lush. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will undoubtedly be back.

We had a fabulous lunch at 1921 today. We ended up having the tasting menu due to exeptional circumstances but are really glad that we did. It was excellent and our pescatarian and gluten free dietry requirements were accommodated excellently. Highly recommended. So tasty. Been looking forward to this for a couple of months. Disgusting customer service. I purchased a £250 voucher for a gift for my parents Christmas 2019. The pandemic hit and my parents were both told to isolate due to illness. When restaurants opened again my parents were still told not to risk going to busy public places so tried to email 1921 to ask for an extension on the gift voucher. They were ignored. When my father went in a week ago to ask about the voucher after numerous ignored emails. He was turned away with no apology just "we've been open nearly 2 years since the first lockdown." For a business that must've struggled in the pandemic, you'd think they'd want some new customers that if they loved it would be regularly returning diner's. I will be purchasing vouchers from Maison bleue from now on as they've always been amazing with customer service.

High quality food and wine. Very knowledgeable staff. Dramatic diminution of levels of service. 6 wines but only one water refill, and only after finding someone to help us. No wine lists with tasting menu any more. Not sure how this restaurant is going to do. Shame, after over 10 visits. I would go again if friends asked me but not on my own instigation.

WOW; you would be a fool not to go!! There are hidden gems and there is 1921. We went here for our birthday evening; it was simply magical. I'll add pictures to the review but my wife and I just loved this place. The canapes were so delicate (choose the £11 pound option for 8) and surprisingly worked really well with the bread and butter offering. My wife's monkfish was really good; I didn't take too much of my duck (I was quite fully as I had cut cake earlier in the day). The dessert was fairly delicate and unique; they also gave me a great birthday square. Was very reasonably priced; it had a Michellin feel (the book place, fireplace and decor just give it the right touch) but in a much more relaxed way; we will be back and in way don't want to write this review as it'll "spoil the secret" but this deserves to be far better known.

We came here as a meet up lunch before some Xmas shopping on what was a horrible day! But we had some great food, friendly and professional service topped off with a great playlist!!

Fantastic birthday lunch today. Staff were very welcoming and provided a relaxed atmosphere but always at hand when needed. Incredible food; salt cod mousse and squash dumplings were highlights but everything was superb. For what we had the price was low, no more than you'd expect to pay for food at a decent gastro pub. Came away thinking about the next time we can visit. They suggested options for bringing small children along too and how they're happy to go off menu to accommodate. Perfect meal and will definitely be back as soon as we can!

Leaving meal and mixed group of people. Not everyone has a smart phone so the menu and bar drinks can only be accessed by a QR reader. Fine for me but some people struggled. Food was very nice and enjoyed the style of the food. Overall good and would recommend to others.
