1911 Bar & Restaurant in Aberdeenshire

My wife and I had a meal at 1911 tonight. Food was excellent, supreme of chicken and beef medallions layered with haggis. Shame there wasn't more people dining to create a better ambience. So come along and enjoy some good food.

Wife was recommended this place by a member. Couldn’t fault the meal at all. However the service was a little slow considering how many people there were in the place. The Bar and Restaurant is situated within Kintore Golf Club. We arrived early evening without booking a table. There was a total of 10 people already in the club. 4 gents in the main lounge and 2 tables that consisted of 6 people and of course us. So we made our way to the bar area. There was a young lad basically doing nothing. He saw us but did not engage with us in any way whatsoever. So having had this initial frosty greeting by the young lad, an older woman then appeared, looked slightly bemused that we were standing there. I asked if we could have a table for two. She then proceeded to ask if we had booked. I then glanced around and asked “can you not slot us in??”. Clearly she did not find this the slightest bit funny and we were shown to a table. I later found out the womans name was Irene. As we were being seated one group from the tables were getting up and heading to the bar area to pay. I then saw the young lad who had been in the bar now serving meals to the other table. So having sat down at our table it was obvious that cleanliness perhaps is not as highly rated as the quality of meals that are being served. Our table had some brochure tucked in the menu holder which highlighted some events that were coming up at the Club. This had what looked like a mushed chip clinging to it. Salt was all over the table and god only knows what was under some of the tables and from when. I think my beer glass stuck to the table at one point. Our order was eventually taken and the food came out. As previously advised, I cannot fault the food. Good portions and price was reasonable. We paid for our meal and decided to have a drink in the main area before we left. It felt extremely dark and dingy, as if the lights were on a dimmer to the lowest setting. The leather seat my wife was sitting on was burst down the back and there was another one that looked as if it had been drawn on with pen. There were glasses left on tables and dropped food on the carpet. No beer mats on our table which of course meant the table got wet when we put our drinks on it and so did we. Had it not been for the great food I would only have given this place a rating of one. If the Staff put in as much effort cleaning and spending a bit more attention to detail as the Chef clearly does in putting out his meals then this will be a great place to have a meal.

Eaten here many times and will be back many more times. A good choice from the main menu and the specials at the weekend are very well priced and taste amazing. A lovely welcome time and time again from the team who recognise the regulars and the locals.
