A very nice hotel in a quiet location, surrounded by a small park. In summer, a small outdoor area with pretty wooden furniture invites you to linger. The rooms are spacious and tastefully furnished. The hotel has a chic bar and a good restaurant with modern dishes. There is something for every taste. The hotel offers an elevator and enough parking spaces. The staff is very friendly and accommodating and is happy to take care of the guests' wishes. The place itself is very clear and only consists of a few shops and a handful of restaurants. However, as long as you are traveling by car, this doesn't matter and you can do a lot in the area. We felt very comfortable and will be happy to come back on our next stay in Scotland.

FAB Sunday bar lunch here served by very friendly, professional, staff. Hubby had the fish & chips and declared the chips “the very best I’ve had in a long time”. I went for the roast chicken, which was delicious. We shared a sticky toffee pudding served with ice cream & caramelised banana-amazing!! and finished off with coffee and extremely creamy & delicious autumnal fudge. We had our two small dogs with us and they immediately brought over a dog bed and asked if they’d like a water bowl. Great service for us humans and our four legged friends. I highly recommend this lovely revamped hotel.

Were here for a funeral. The room was ok but needed some repairs and TLC. Bed and pillows soft and uncomfortable. Noisy corridor. Cooked buffet breakfast was the the worst we have ever had in a hotel, I could not cut the bacon , the eggs were rubber and sausages solid ,cereal on offer was 2 mini packs of cornflakes, approximately 100 mls of apple juice in jug on offer, plain yoghurt , no fruit. The service was also poor, we had to ask twice for milk, butter and marmalade, waiter was not interested at all and dirty tables surrounded us. Disgusting, will not be back!

Banchory has very few quality dining experiences and we waited with baited breathe to see what would happen after the refurbishment at Tor Na Coille. Decor is tasteful, the food high quality. We ate Turkey with all the trimmings in the Greedy Goose at Christmas and were extremely impressed with every aspect. So much so that when they advertised a Tapas night with Live Music we didn’t hesitate to rebook! No wonder it sold out within days. The food was delicious and menu varied. We were a little disappointed to have been seated in the bar - not the Greedy Goose - and nowhere near the live music which we missed entirely as we were in a neighbouring room out of ear shot. The musician left at 9:15 so we didn’t even have an opportunity to move through with drinks and sample this aspect of the evening. Many guests left before we had barely started eating our food and we were left eating alone in the bar with ambience somewhat lacking. We were served at our table by 4 different waiting staff throughout the evening at various stages. We found the hospitality somewhat lacking. When we booked a taxi and asked what time the bar closed we were told “whenever we can get rid of everyone”! The waitresses were attentive but all looked like they would rather be elsewhere. Overall a fab meal but service could do with upping its game. Maybe incentivising experienced front of house with a higher rate of pay? And £32 for a bottle of Prosecco…ouch.

A very enjoyable dining experience at the newly refurbished hotel. We had a couple of tasty cocktails at their smart cocktail bar. We were taken to our table for our three course dinner which was excellent. Nice goats cheese starter for my wife and I had scallops. For mains we both chose the venison dish which was lovely. We would have liked three slices each instead of two as it was so well cooked. Can’t grumble though. For dessert my wife had parfait and I had a lovely pear dessert. With wines and dessert wines it was a lovely relaxed evening. Great to see an attentive front of house team too. Thanks all at TNC. You get a big recommendation from us.

We’ve just moved to Banchory, and are delighted that it’s got a restaurant as good as The Greedy Goose, in the Tor-na-coiled hotel. We’ve eaten at the restaurant three times in as many weeks. First time, I thought I’d give their burger a try. Wow. It was cooked to perfection. And the addition of the pulled brisket on the top of the pattie elevated it to another level. Best burger I have ever eaten. And I’ve had a few. The last time we were there we had the roast turkey, with all the trimmings. Again, it was cooked to perfection, with a great selection of veg, including parsnip, carrot, cabbage, and crispy roast tatties. Delicious turkey gravy as well. The waiting staff have been great too. As has, Rammi, one of the owners. It’s fab that a fairly small town has such a high quality restaurant, and the fact that, unfortunately for us anyway, they have no spaces available for Christmas Day lunch, is testament to how good this place is.

Well Worth Going. Myself and a friend went the the new restaurant The Greedy Goose at this hotel, the restaurant bar area has been renovated to high standard. Lunch was delicious, very big portions and the staff were polite, helpful and attentive. The atmosphere was a bit quiet until background music was put on. The price was very good for what we had. Would we go back Absolutely. My only criticism would be the toilets, they were clean but very dated. After speaking to management they are slowly renovating rooms which if anything like the new cocktail bar it will be good.

Having decided to have a short break in Royal Deeside we chose this lovely hotel. on arrival the staff that greeted us were very welcoming and gave us all the information we required at this time. Our room [28] was on the second floor and unfortunately the lift was out of service. this wasn't an issue as we were able to carry our cases to the room. This may have been an issue for anyone who was less able. Our room was very clean and well appointed. Bathroom large and, again, very clean. All interactions with staff were very pleasant and informative. A staff members gave the impression that they thoroughly enjoyed working there. They told us that the hotel was under new management and that all previous staff had been kept on as employees. My wife had spoken to the new owner who had outlined the renovations they were going to be undertaking. The staff members said they were looking forward to being sent on courses to help them make the guests stay even more pleasurable. The food from breakfast to eating in the restaurant was very enjoyable experience. Food well cooked, presented with great service from the respective staff. I can safely say we shall be returning to see how the refurbishments have gone. Thank you all for a wonderful stay.

OK so I rarely write a bad review I know and this is far from one but they got some stuff right and some stuff wrong and breakfast was a disaster. Gardens and grounds nice, plentiful parking and great local gym as well as fairly welcoming staff... But check in vent line a bit of an inconvenience when we stayed.Lift is currently out of service so lugging bags up stairs is a real pain. In fairness they offered to help get stuff up there but still a real faff. The while place has that feel of being a little bit past its best and whilst rooms were modern and clean and comfortable it just doesn't feel welcoming. Bar was well stocked with whisky but definitely over priced bit Ian behind the bar was knowledgeable and entertaining company and very accomodating. We didn't eat dinner but we did experience breakfast - and wow does that need to prove. In fact it was so poor we didn't bother on a second day and ate out at a local cafe. The breakfast service was fair to rushed, the food shockingly bad with anemic food and small portions - tea was dreadful tasteless stuff and the bacon softie was laughably poor. I went for salmon and scrambled egg - big mistake the fish was tiny and I mean tiny portions and the egg was I'm fairly sure made from powdered egg it was white ! Sorry in this day and age and at the prices this place want to charge it was totally unacceptable. Would I stay again - sorry no I wouldn't.

I saw on social media Tor Na Coille were doing a six course dinner for Valentine’s Day so the romantic in me decided to take my wife for dinner. I could wax lyrical about it for ages as the food here is really fabulous at really decent prices. I Mean £55 for a beautiful six course dinner that would cost over £200 in London or any other major city. You have arguably the best chefs north of the central belt who consistently get it right. The waiting staff were lovely who served us and a chat after dinner with head chef David Littlewood a real treat. Such a consummate professional. Thanks to everyone for a truly memorable night. I have had the fortune to stay in some of the best hotels around the work through business travel and I would highly recommend the Tor-na-coile..

Loved this place. A friendly welcome and the service from the point we arrived to our departure was truly excellent. Genuinely friendly and cheerful staff. The food was also excellent, we ate in the bar and were impressed by the Cullen Skink - top marks. Great breakfast too - on our short "road trip" around the North East using a few hotels, this breakfast was by far the best. The hotel has retained the original features of the old house, but it feels clean and is very comfortable. We felt quite special when visiting this hotel. The high point was our room - I'll keep the number to myself, so I don't ruin the chances of it being available when we return - absolutely brilliant. Very many thanks to all at Tor-na-coille.

Have eaten here twice since chef David Littlejohn and partners have taken over the hotel and restaurant and it has seen a huge improvement and particularly regarding the dinning. Great food and well presented and although I have no idea of any of their awards, they would definitely be worthy of 2 AA rosettes. Not the most atmospheric of places but a good all-round country house style hotel and restaurant and a welcome addition to the Banchory area. Well worth a visit

Only stayed for one night and really enjoyed it! Room was warm and clean with a huge modern bathroom. We just had a light evening meal which was delicious. Service was very friendly from check in, through our meal and on departure. Would definitely stay here again when in Banchory.

We booked Sunday lunch for six adults and a baby and were not disappointed. Got a table in a small room beside a large window with lovely outlook. We were welcomed immediately on arrival and directed to our table with a high chair already in place. The waiting staff were very polite and attentive and we couldn`t have wished for better. Service was quick even though it looked fairly busy and the food was really excellent. We would definitely go back again and recommend you give it a try.

I was recommended this delightful hotel for Sunday lunch and I was very impressed with the welcome I receive on arrival. A lovely lounge area to enjoy a drink followed by just as nice a restaurant. The food was truly delicious, I enjoyed a perfectly cooked roast cod whilst my friends enjoyed traditional roast beef. The service was excellent and I would certainly recommend this restaurant to friends.

Came her for Sunday lunch as a family. Friendly welcome from staff, and our table was ready and waiting with the requested booster seat for my daughter. The set menu choices for Sunday lunch all sounded nice, but we all opted for the beef and were not disappointed. Service was efficient, for food and drinks. Staff were always attentive, checking everything was OK and seeing if anyone needed anything else, additional drinks etc. All in all a lovely place to eat, fairly priced, well presented food and a good selection of drinks. The only issue we encountered was the horrendously miserable old farts at the table next to us, who seemed to “tut” and “guffaw” any time my little girl giggled. To most people, a 22 month old sitting nicely and playing with stickers and giggling with her grandparents is a nice thing – but those two must just have a miserable existence and be out to darken any brightness in the world. Hope you read this, and hope you cheer up one day. Anyway, a great place to eat – I hear the daily menu is very good and the food is great then too, I’ll certainly try to get back one weekday to sample that.

Great food and excellent service at both the hotel and restaurant. Really worth a vist just for the food. Could not fault any of the meal the presentation, flavour and textures all complimented each other.

This is a nice hotel just on the edge of Banchory. The hotel is bright, clean and well appointed. The restaurant is superb, serving excellent local produce. The bedroom is well appointed. Only slight negative is its proximity to the main road and not set in acres of woodland as its website suggests. All in all a very good hotel

Putting food on a plate in a stack is not fine dinning in my opinion. The food and the cooking needs to be better than just average fair especially at these prices, very disappointed again as this was my second visit since the change of management. I'm very unlikely to try a third time.

We have been here a couple of times for dinner in the past. We had heard that the place had changed hands. This has not affected the excellent quality of the food. One person in our party said that his duck dish was good but he had a better one at the new Rothesay Rooms restaurant in Ballater. We can certainly recommend the double beef dish. That is something special. The restaurant has new furniture. The chairs are comfortable. We remember the old ones that were about to fall apart. The decorations of the place are a bit dull. Brighter colours here and there would work better. But we will return.

Having often visited my son in Aberdeen my wife and I have so often been dismayed by the over priced, poor value hotels on offer. We thought we'd try something different this w/e and booked Tor-na-coille in Banchory (about 30 minutes by car from Aberdeen). We were not disappointed and at long last, we were treated to real value for money in a Scottish tourist centre. Thank you David and his team - who were excellent. The room was very comfortable with beautiful bed linen. The bathroom actually had sinks and showers that drained without needing to wait 30 minutes. Needless to say everything was also spotlessly clean. The breakfasts were delicious - in fact you would be hard pushed to beat the smoked salmon anywhere. The only downside was the decor in the communal areas. These were a bit dowdy and the bar and restaurant lacked atmosphere. Older style properties are a money pit when it comes to upkeep and we absolutely concur with the priority that has been given to ensuring the rooms are bright and fresh however a lick of paint on the stairs to the bedrooms would create a much better impression. The acid test of anywhere is; "would you return and would you tell your friends?" The answer is an unequivocal yes to both, we're already planning our next trip.

Very good indeed! We went twice during our recent stay in Ballater. Excellent food (hence the second visit), nice, friendly service, really nice restaurant inside. No hesitation in recommending and we'll be back when next in Ballater.

Pleasant ambiance with helpful staff. I thought it was a bit expensive for what was offered. The food was, however, good.

This is a fabulous hotel with great service and fantastic views. We had the room at the top of the house and the view was stunning. Dinner was exceptional and delicious. The whole house has been renovated to a very high standard. We would thoroughly recommend it if you are looking for somewhere to stay in the area.
