I use to come here at least once a week for lunch out. Been back once since they removed all the delicious specials. I won’t be returning unless they bring them back 🥺

I received a Sunday dinner here from my girlfriend as a Christmas present. Wow is all I can say, what a fantastic experience in every regard. Lunch starts with drinks and a peruse of the menu in the bar/lounge area where we were treated to an amuse bouche of a sausage roll and a crispy cheese and mushroom cup. This really set the tone of the meal and let us know they were not messing around. It wasn't a tiny pretentious spoon full of caviar or a wafer of hay. A large sausage roll and a savoury cheese and mushroom cup. Proper stuff. You are then asked what you would like to order (including your dessert) before being led in to the dining room. Whilst I wouldn't say the dining area was the most up-to-date or cleanest (there were still crumbs on the tablecloth presumably from breakfast) I would say it felt very relaxed and not stuffy. No one was awkwardly whispering and the volume of the music felt perfect. It certainly is a nice place to eat. We started with the bread and butter, which includes a cheese bread and a also a sourdough. Both of these were excellent with the former being one of the best breads I have ever tried. I started with the carrot and pesto starter which was perhaps the nicest dish of food I have ever eaten. Massive flavours from a rather dainty looking dish but it really got me excited for the main course. Main was a "roast dinner" of chicken with trimmings and a rather excellent chicken meatball. The chicken was buttery soft and tasted incredible. I cant think of a better chicken dish I have eaten. Buttery mash and veggies really added to the dish too. For dessert a chocolate "bomb" with berries and pebbles of frozen sour cream. It was great, but probably the worst course of the 3. It was slightly one dimensional in taste and the chocolate got slightly lost in the sharp berry flavour, but it was still a very nice way to end the meal. The staff were thoughtful, polite and attentive, without being stuffy, awkward or pretentious. We noted that if anyone had yet to have been lucky enough to try a Michelin star meal then this would be an excellent first place to visit, it wasn't pretentious, it wasn't stuffy and the food was familiar but taken to a very high level. The only complaint I had was that it took about 20 minutes to get the bill, but the staff were busy around this time serving the mains to the next set of customers. A little point but I definitely felt it could've been improved for a Michelin star establishment.
