Lovely welcoming place - came for the comedian and laughed from start to finish. Great pub with pool table, jukebox and darts - also has a beer garden but it was raining

No food these days, but good selection of bar snacks including XL Cheese and the pints of Loweswater Gold are perfect, Usually another real ale is available. Service excellent. Nice crowd, like when I last drank in here in 2010. Prices very reasonable. Will drink & bar snack here again.

Stayed just around the corner in 2024 for an event in Whitehaven. Opted to visit this highly recommended chippy and had battered sausage & chips to take away. wasn't disappointed. Visited the event again over the bank hols weekend in may 2025 and thought "I know where to go for my chippy tea". Even better was the battered chips !. Just exceptional, fantastic food, freshly cooked and reasonably priced too. Cottage chippy is THE place to go !! See you again in 2026 :-)

I have played at this venue since the late 80s when Alec was landlord. Mark in now running the club, which has been over-hauled to a high standard. Good quality projection screen with hdmi ports where they should be - on stage. This venue is ideal for christening and anniversaries.

Past this place a few times and wondered if it's just for members, so we decided to pop in to check it out. I'm glad we did. The restaurant is open to the public, and there is a large car park around the back with a few allocated disabled bays, although the markings on the ground have faded. The front entrance is automatically and wide enough for wheelchairs. The restaurant has a disabled WC, The staff seemed friendly and sat us down where we wanted and took our drinks & food orders promptly. The food came pipping hot, and it was delicious. There is a huge selection of foods and vegetarian options to choose from. Check their website for the latest menu items. Definitely worth a visit if you're nearby.
