The best restaurants serving Default food in Birch and Winstree Colchester East of England

We've been going to the Red Dog for years. It's always been great; the burgers are the best in Essex, and the loaded fries are fantastic. Used to live closer and pick up to take away, but now we're further away it just takes a special trip! The menu changes sometimes but that keeps it fresh, and the classics remain. Nothing is ever too greasy either, which is real skill!!

We stopped at the crown on our way back from Colchester for a drink asked on the off chance if there was a table for two available which there was sat outside in the sun and had a drink until service started the staff and waitresses were all very helpful and friendly. We both had the chicken livers in masala cream sauce to start followed by the Dover sole and a trio of lamb which were all excellent and not expensive well worth a visit.

What a lovely small traditional old pub. (Which sadly are getting fewer and fewer in UK). Four of us met for lunch on a Wednesday and were greeted by a very friendly lady who was attentive to us throughout. We ate ham, egg and chips, tagliatelle, scampi and chips and we all enjoyed our meals - plentiful and tasty. The homemade Bakewell tart and brownies were worth the calories! So tasty. Can definitely recommend and will return next time we are in the area. Thank you!

Rubino Kitchen On Saturday we made a long overdue return to Rubino Kitchen. I’m delighted to say it was our best visit to date as we enjoyed a fabulous tasting menu created by chef / owner Rob. We were also looked after superbly by Sophie. The restaurant is on the Inworth Road just a ten minute drive from junction 23 on the A12. When we arrived Sophie was there to greet us warmly before seating us at our table. At this point Rob came out for a chat and to welcome us back. For the menu which is designed so you can either have A la Carte or create your own tasting menu. This gives you the opportunity to have as many dishes as you like as well as this there also the choice of a set three course lunch menu. We decided to opt for the offer from Rob to have a surprise tasting menu. We started with a Chicken and Leek Terrine which was followed by Rabbit Agnolotti , Baked Scallops , Braised Beef with Horseradish Risotto and Haddock. Then it was time for desserts. Here we enjoyed the delicious Lemon Tart , Custard Tart and the Biscoff Cheesecake. We finished with a coffee before heading into the kitchen where we could personally thank Rob and the team for a great afternoon. There is no doubt in my mind when I say I would recommend a visit to Rubino Kitchen which is one of the best restaurants in Essex. Didn't stay here but the food was amazing! Best fish and chips we've had in ages!

Incredible food for our anniversary. My wife has a lot of special needs with her orders which I know can be difficult. The staff and chef were both fantastic and the food was exceptional. Been to quite a few restaurants and pubs this year and they have seemed slightly lacking. This on the other hand is the exception. Well done to all at the Crown.

Had a lovely late lunch here with my mum . Tasty Turkey ciabatta roll and a portion of chips . With a pint a cider Lovely friendly and helpful staff and a cozy relaxing pub. Will definitely return soon.
